why did companies close down their handheld studios? they just vanished after the 3ds, you'd think they'd still be around for the most succesful portable in history. i'd prefer a dedicated game over a fricking port
Mobile killed most interest in them. That, and it's harder to sell entirely different games like that with the internet being so prevalent nowadays. People will easily catch on, no matter how quality the Switch version might be on its own.
GBA and DS versions of series that used to be on consoles was the worst thing to happen to Japanese games until gachashit. That era ending and nips learning to release on PC is a blessing. If they learn to stick to low poly art they can do well, that'll be even better.
>unique games built from the ground up that could be really good sometimes
vs >the same game as the premier consoles but running at 20fps at 480p
I prefer the former
Everything is outsourced to Chinese or Indian mobile developers that all make the same shit. Even tho the 3DS was successful you'd be surprised how little it was supported by most publishers. And I guess with the Wii U they didn't expect the Switch to do well. This fricked Capcom and EA real hard because they avoided the Switch for the first year.
The switch is too powerful, developing for it is like making something for a very shitty pc, instead of getting it's own library it gets shitty pc ports. None of the old handheld devs had the funds or manpower for that kind of generational leap.
How many games are actually THIS bad? I know there's some good examples like The Witcher III and Outer Worlds, but most ports I've seen are fine graphically.
Who cares about a switch successor, Nothing is going to magically change about the gaming landscape, it's still going to be a gimped port machine that compares unfavourably to the deck.

Xenoblade is so bad you question what was the point of remastering it
we can stop pretending to want switch ports for everything when this exists
the switch's fine for indies and first party games though
By the time this is easy to get, the Switch successor will likely be out.

Damn didn't know it was bad enough that the display was streamed at with a low bitrate.
Wasn't the Doom Switch port like this?
At points yeah, otherwise it looks better than what you would expect.
