I have no idea what it is, but there's something off about the character art. My gut tells me it's the shading and overall look of the human sprites, because they have a different coloring style compared to the background coloring and shading.
bad values and color, there is no defined light source for the characters, and very little contrast between characters and environment, it gives that muddy look.

This is genuinely atrocious. The plate armor looks like a gown, the gown looks like skin, there's barely any breakup, and the shading is either non-existant (two right-most characters) or so extreme (plate and gown) that it looks like voids. I've seen better from literal children.

Please can there be an option to change the font of the tetxboxes, spells, items etcetra to a different one that's better readable. I tried the demo and had to quit as the font was straining/hurting my eyes too much and I struggled to read it.
There are many good readable fonts around (also commercially usable) that would fit the game's vibe so well.

It's not about the amount of time or effort, if you can't draw you will only get proportions right by accident. I have no idea what it is, but there's something off about the character art. My gut tells me it's the shading and overall look of the human sprites, because they have a different coloring style compared to the background coloring and shading.
bad values and color, there is no defined light source for the characters, and very little contrast between characters and environment, it gives that muddy look.
Take FFT for example, map has darker values compared to character sprites.
Damn look at that spritework.
Lots of shading detail where it is needed, flat colors where it isn't.
The textures are pretty clear as well. You can easily tell everything apart.
FFT is a beautiful game, shame good pixel art is a pain in the ass to create.

Please can there be an option to change the font of the tetxboxes, spells, items etcetra to a different one that's better readable. I tried the demo and had to quit as the font was straining/hurting my eyes too much and I struggled to read it.
There are many good readable fonts around (also commercially usable) that would fit the game's vibe so well.

I can see why

His review-bombing strategy didn't even work because I hadn't heard of this shit game until this thread. The whole "gender war" meta narrative ITT is what Becca was trying to orchestrate with her comments about sexism in the game industry. It really undermines her credibility and lends credence to Haddon's side of the story, because dark triad Cluster B women always pull the sexism card when they're in trouble.
