It was, and turn based combat still has a place and plenty of reason to exist in the current age, however Final Fantasy never once in its entire existence EVER did turn based combat correctly.
It's was as bare bones basic with zero depth or layers as you could possibly get and it never expanded beyond that, only the most mentally ill of nostalgia slaves would try to deny it.

When the frick was FF ever turn based in the first place? 1,2,3 and 10?

It depends a bit on how you define turn-based I guess? With an ATB system you are technically taking turns, but multiple turns can come at once, and the enemy doesn't have to wait for you to finish before they take their turn. If a turn-based game means you HAVE to wait until it's your turn, then FF hasn't had many turn-based games. However, if a game can be turn-based even if it's not in-order, most FF games are turn-based.

Eh, by that defintion most CRPGs are turn based combat. Hell if you stretch it, Dark Souls have turn based combat based on that.

If you have 3-4 homies standing in a row, and you have to select attack or magic out of a spreadshit/folders. Then it is a turn based game. Do not go autistic supreme and try to be as detailed as possible, what I just said is as basic as it gets and that is how the world sees it.

This all seems a lot like a "you"-definition that you're just sorta hoping everyone agrees with because you've claimed that's what the rest of the world sees it as.

it is because I am a normie that hates turnbased games and just recently got over it. I am as basic/entry level to turnbased as you will get.

its funny how the turn based stuff is considered to be dated but the newer action installments are way less popular

A lot of people blame different things.
      >FF12 - the game's an MMO
      >FF13 - the game's a hallway
      >FF14 - the game's an MMO
      >FF15 - half the game's gone
      >FF16 - the game's DMC
They do all this without realizing that one of the things these games all have in common is that they're not turn-based. Yet no one ever wants to acknowledge that.

I like turn-based games and I find this meme funny. Feels good to be a non-polarized drone. It's like these days there's no place for nuance or grey scales. Everything is either black or white and you better choose a side or you will be ostracized.

I have been online for almost 15 years now and nothing comes close to the 2013-onwards era. Gamer Gate was the begining, followed by Metoo and the 2016 election. It's all political and polarized bullshit since then. 2012 was truly the last year that felt real. I'm a firmly believer we are in hell now.

With the exception of FF10. Final Fantasy hasn't been turn based since 1991
