"Lol, Git Gud-" don't care, not fun for me, dropped it

At one point have any of you played a Dark Souls game, tried to complete it, kept getting beat and just gave up and dropped it permanently simply because it isn't fun for you? Even if there are others who have gotten good and have beaten and completed the game, how about just simply dropping the game and admitting art thou a casual and thou just simply don't like the game and it's difficulty is simply too much for you and not fun for you? I mean surely it is acceptable to admit one does not like any Dark Souls type of game because of the difficulty it comes with and is not just fun for you nor is meant for everyone. As opposed to complaining about not having an easy mode.

So which are you, gotten good or filtered because casual and the game and it's difficulty/challenge is not fun or fulfilling for you. I personally felt more fun and accomplishment from Halo's Library and Flood levels in Legendary than anything in a Dark Souls game.

You would have never beaten it, its a pure reflex test, you either can or you can't, you don't "learn" much of anything.

there's literally nothing in dark souls that requires anything below a second of reaction time, everything is either telegraphed well in advance by body language or can be played around by just not doing the thing that triggers it

I never got good. I always cheesed these games and I dont feel bad about it. whatever lets me beat the game is fair game. never glitch abused though, like glitching demon of hatred off cliff and things like that.

Demon of Hatred deserves to be glitched off a cliff. Forever grateful that frick isn't mandatory.

It's funny as hell though when you see the "fanbase" react to these shortcuts (which as you said, are fair game)
Like there was this, don't care who, streamer who brute forced Dark souls by just equipping heaviest armor and using the hardest hitting weapons, pretty much doing nothing but just hittig the bosses till they die. Of course this made his chat massively butthurt, because "that's no the right way to play" and they couldn't bear seeing someone just waltz through the game when they struggled.

Got to some big ghost boss in sekiro.
Realised i dont care about the game and the reason why i dont progress is because im not interested in the game, I just wanted to go to next area.
    It has artificial difficulty
    Its furstrating

Breezed through nioh 2 bored out of my mind. Keep holding out the hope that there will be a fun and good boss. Beat every boss in less than 3 tries. Ice guy actually took me like 5 tries and was a high point. Started to get optimistic that maybe this was a turning point. Probably the worst boss in any soulslike ever in the form of the spiderbeast thing. Soldier on and beat the rest of the game out of pure spite. Just a miserable and boring game all the way through.

I actually respect people who say "it's not for me" and let it be. On the other side of the spectrum you have morons jumping on the bandwagon then crying it's too hard for them and slamming the game for it. Complaining about game difficulty after it's clear it's high is literally like whining the shirt you bought is blue, not red, though you clearly knew what you were buying. You DON'T have to play the game just because it exists, just like you don't have to like or even watch every movie that comes out, some people fail to understand it.

Don't mind me, just posting this official souls ranking I just made.
The best game in any given category will be at 100%, and the others will be based around that (except replayability).

    First playthrough fun rating
    >Sekiro: 100%
    >BB: 95%
    >3: 90%
    >1: 90%
    >2: 80%
    >ER: 75%

Length. Determines how long you keep that first playthrough score
    >ER: 100%
    >2: 65%
    >3: 65%
    >1: 60%
    >BB: 55% (more if you count chalice dungeons I guess)
    >Sekiro: 50%

Replayability. Think of it as a multiplier for the first playthrough category, it's only used once then the decline is much slower on subsequent playthoughs
    >2: 85%
    >1: 80%
    >3: 70%
    >BB: 60%
    >ER: 50%
    >Sekiro: 50%

    Coop/PvP
    >2: 100%
    >3: 90%
    >1: 85%
    >ER: 80%
    >BB: lol (20% I guess)
    >Sekiro: lmao

    Haven't played DeS.

sekiro has best pacing and doesnt overstay its welcome. sekiro also has great replayability because once you've learned enemies/bosses, killing them is very sayisfying. also lots of shinobi tools and arts to experiment with

        Anonymous

True, also the boss rush allowing you to skip the mostly uninteresting levels and trashmobs makes it better I guess. I'll bump up replayability

None of the Souls games are ever going to be hard because of the RPG elements that let you steamroll everything. If you actually find a Souls game challenging you're simply an idiot.

Only boss I never want to fight again in a legitimate way is Malenia. Took me several tries. In NG+ I used the Mimic Tear Ash and I healed it several times with enchantments.

Her great rune suck ass too.

true, maelsina is so fricking tedious to fight
gotta love random waterfowl in melee range, 50/50 chance to get away in time or restart the fight (either because you die or just heal her to full)

    >At one point have any of you played a Dark Souls game, tried to complete it, kept getting beat and just gave up and dropped it permanently simply because it isn't fun for you?
Yeah, Dark souls 2 really wasn't worth my time. It is ugly, exploration isn't fun (because nonsensical) and deliberately annoying.

Another point where I quit because I wasn't having fun anymore was Sekiros final boss I couldn't be fricked to fight the same old boss over and over again just to try the new boss.

Someone who absolutely has to complete every challenge they are given has self-confidence issues. I have no problem walking away from a problem.

A boss fight has to be fun, not annoying. Most video game boss fights are annoying. A lot of minor enemies are annoying too. Elden Ring was fun because they added in a lot of things to help avoid the annoying parts.

The difference between fun and annoying is the "wasting my time" feeling the user gets. If I feel you are wasting my time, the game is annoying. It is the responsibility of the game designer to "punish" the player without wasting the player's time. Most game designers just waste people's time. This is magnified and extremely obvious in the core game design of souls games.

I like factory games and colony sims and a lot of the newer genres compared to the stuff that I've been playing for decades. I expect children and zoomers to play this popular stuff bug holy frick third person action games have been around since PS2.

I dropped Elden Ring after beating the giant Black person and his tiny horse (moronic design btw) because I got fed up with how jank the combat system is.
You character moves slow as shit and has half a second of input delay while bosses have spastic Nioh boss tier movesets. And then they put in summons that breaks every encounter. It's absolutely moronic game design.

Bloodborne, Sekiro and any other soulslike which doesn't allow Cometh Azur type of gameplay is indeed - shit
Wasting time learning patterns is not good combat and not hard either. Not a single soulsbaby here ever played dmc3, godhand or ninja gaiden. Actually hard games which don't get easier just because your "backbone" is seething at certain animation patterns.

I wouldn't have pushed myself to beat Father Gascoigne if I didn't want to see the rest of the game so badly.
Getting filtered in any other game is usually "meh whatever" but it stings more in souls games because its a massive fricking blue ball.

Not sure about souls games specifically, but I'm sure there have been games I've played where I've decided the juice isn't worth the squeeze and I've quit.
There's nothing wrong with quitting on something if you're not having fun. Videogames are supposed to be a fun past time, and if you're at a point where you aren't enjoying the time you're spending then it's sensible to stop.
And yeah it's perfectly fine to decide that a genre as a whole isn't for you. I've long since decided that fighting games and strategy games aren't for me - I don't get any pleasure from playing them.

if you don't like the core gameplay there's nothing wrong with not playing it. watching streamers suffer through dark souls to "get their gamer card" while they basically just ignore exploring which is half the fun - I do wonder why they are even bothering to play.

Why would you buy a game without knowing what you're getting into? Are yiu stupid?
