The reason that Riot has a bigger playerbase is because their games run on complete toasters and they are very, VERY easy to get into than the alternative.
Not saying that there is anything wrong with that but its the truth and I used to play lol daily since 2014 but i tried dota this year and its just a harder game.
I am happy for lol fans, but honestly I personally can't get excited for anything lol related after they shat on the lore and the gameplay balance, lets hope their mmo and fighting game will be different, im really looking fowards to those two games

The game has been slowly dying for years, you look at every element of it and it's just slightly worse than 3-4 years ago. >The game - every hero is able to do too much as opposed to having weaknesses. >Pro Scene - Less pro games happening, no tier 2 scene, no pro players with personalities >Coverage - Slowly people who were good at their jobs, like Merlini, Tobi, Redeye etc are no longer involved in Dota and the newer generation are annoying. Lack of bringing in actually relevant top players to panels. Now resulted in Gorgc sitting in his Pyjamas having the 3rd biggest twitch viewership of the tourny
These are just a few, exam every element of dota and it just keeps slipping away. There's nothing valve wants to do about it either. The actual freaks who are popular and could say some things are either not arsed or just useless. Sheever, Odpixel, Fogged, Kyle etc don't have a patch on the older crew and won't keep Dota alive. Others like PPD who could have had a good job doing basically anything has left because Valve isn't arsed. It's sad that none of them know why Dota is failing apart from simply saying the playerbase is ageing.
