Look dude, I'm NOT saying it's a good idea. I'm saying it's inevitable---eventually, one day, they WILL add a 19th Type, because of marketing. They KNOW a new Type will cause considerate hype and attention. Pokemon is a monetary powerhouse, and they cannot tastefully refrain themselves...not forever. There's far too much $$$$$ at stake for the higher-ups.
EVENTUALLY we're getting a new Type whether we like it or not. So...pick your poison! What new Type/s do you want added? (It doesn't need to be one of these 3).
Cosmic and Light are covered by other types like Fairy and Psychic and Sound is more a gimmick in the series. These types aren't happening
> Sound is more a gimmick in the series.
of all the moves with a hidden property, sound based moves are the group most easily changed into a full type
Sound is just normal type energy, that's why they're all normal type moves
bite was a normal move before it was converted to dark and the first fairies were all converted normal types, sound moves will be the same.
Gardevoir and Mawile, well-known for being normal types.
Bite was changed as Dark had no moves and changing some was quicker than adding more new typed ones.
Sand-Attack was another IIRC. But just because they change a couple, doesn't mean they're going to add a new type and change more to that.
>torch song
>sparkling aria
>bug buzz
>overdrive
>psychic noise
>clanging scales
>disarming voice
>snarl
anon, at this rate soon every time is going to have a sound move. by branching out of normal type for sound moves, they're clearly very committed to sound as a battle mechanic. Changing all of the above moves to "sound" would just hurt all the mons that learn these moves, notably the signature moves, and they're not going to retcon starter pokemon types. Sound --> new type is actually not an easy retcon at specifically because how much they've leaned into it as a mechanic
I don't support Sound Type but just for the record, those moves don't HAVE to be Sound. They can be common coverage moves Sound Types learn
Fairy is not Light Type, it never has been. Sure it's admittedly the MOST similar but in truth aspects of Light Type are split up across different Types.
>physically producing light
Mostly Electric and Fire
>reflecting light
Mostly Steel
>manipulating light, creating "solid light" forcefields
Psychic
>goodness, purity, peace, angelic-ness
Fairy
>heroic goodness, moral righteousness and justice
Fighting and kinda-sorta Steel
>light in the sense of pure white light that splits like a prism into any potential color
Normal
>light white colors combined with sense of soft fragility
Ice and Fairy
>creature that is more-or-less a deity that many people worship
Dragon
Fairy is pure in the sense a sweet little girl is pure. Light Type is pure in the sense of a virtuous holy character. These are not the same.
I didn't say it was light, hell I'm saying it could and sometimes does cover some aspects of it while other types cover others. If we're talking just virtue then I'd argue Fighting mostly covers that, making a Light type feels as redundant and hair splitty as a Food type
Light just sounds like Fairy, ik it's not the same since Fairy is more focused on cutesy pokemon, but it fills the same niche surely
Cosmic & Sound both seem fun though also a little limiting from a design perspective I feel like? Will every sound pokemon need to have stereos or horns or something? Will every Cosmic Pokemon need to be an alien or a UFO or have stars on him or something?
If I had to pick I think sound is the most interesting
> Will every sound pokemon need to have stereos or horns or something?
chatot, prismarina, and the whismur line could very easily be sound types. no ghetto blaster or instruments are involved in their design.
>Primarina
is a mermaid or water nymph. Which are related to fairy tales, hence her Fairy typing, as she was fricking designed to be a blend of female solo singer (the frills and blue lower body., to ape a low-cut evening gown when standing up, the starfish head pieces, imitating headphones), mermaids/nymphs (for the justification of the Fairy typing) and seals because that was the animal chosen as a base for the line. they put more shit into this that you frickers do. they also have the luxury of having the FULL picture for the reasoning why the universe works as it does, than spergy frickers mad the last new type put shit back in its box where it was supposed to stay.
They make new types to balance the game, not for hype and attention.
Oh Anon..... i'm so jealous of you. I wish I was this pure. This naive.
Why do they add new types then? Educate us, o great old oldgay.
same reason they do all their battle gimmicks, to put something in trailers and on the back of the box
types are permanent additions, gimmicks aren't. sure, maybe they will add another type someday, maybe two. But this is a franchise that they see lasting another 100 years. how many types can they jam in before they break their own game for such short term hype? they have to be more careful when introducing new permanent mechanics, it's not worth it just for one generation's worth of marketing. that's what one-and-done gimmicks are for, something that looks flashy on paper but won't cause long term harm if it doesn't work out since it's gone next gen.
Ding-Ding. Battle gimmicks being removable is by design and actually dissuades the need to add a new type to hype shit, as the anon you replied to thinks, because "FRICKING FLASHY BATTLE GIMMICK OF THE GEN!!!". All the types that got added to date were to balance the game (and even at that, I'd say it's to balance the story playthrough, as I know Sabrina would have been arse in Yellow if you were under teens in age and didn't have an easy alakazam nuke) and it won't be until we see the next hyper-centralising type/move combo akin to Outrage Dwagons that just makes the PvP unfair to play against will we see another type addition.
We already have Stellar.
new types will definitely happen in order to create new Pokemon and to keep things fresh
sound is a mechanic not a type
they have plenty of other things to market, adding types just to cause excitement will backfire long term and even GF knows this. too many types makes the game too complex for kids and 18 is fricking plenty
The alternative to sound type that I usually propose is Music Type. It lets them be more arbitrary with most of the move and Pokemon type conversions. Sound Type by itself is very problematic because its effects are so widespread. Primarina is still a major issue with Music Type, though.
It's going to be Food type.
For those who are saying Psychic and Fairy cover Cosmic, I'm sorry but Fairies, magical and fairytale creatures, psychic abilities and telepathy are not in the same boat as Aliens, stars, planets, comets and space.
Cosmic can definitely works as can Sound, as for Light, nah, like Fighting type, there's only so much you can do with it.
I would like to see an Air/Wind type, something to do with the actual element and not the physical act of Flying, like, an Air type that can create powerful bursts of wind and control air flow, I doubt a Ledyba can do that.
>Aliens
Deoxys is Psychic
>stars
Jirachi is part-Psychic
>planets, comets and space.
Minor makes better sense being rock/flying but the pokémon servants of the Sun and Moon, as well as Necrozma are all part-Psychic as they're associated with outer space too.
So it looks like you're just an autistic c**t who can't accept Game Freak placed the "cosmic" aspects of their series in with Psychic, rather than adding a fanwank type just because.
crazy, it's almost like when a type isn't in the game they have to substitute it with a different type that fits less
They fit fine, you autist. Psychic powers are seen as mystical and they've been associated with the cosmos since forever
>I would like to see an Air/Wind type, something to do with the actual element and not the physical act of Flying, like, an Air type that can create powerful bursts of wind and control air flow
Anon that is what non-physical Flying Type moves already are. Quit being autistic, just because it isn't literally NAMED Air/Wind doesn't mean that isn't exactly what it is
Ok, but
sex type
No adding any more types would make it more imbalanced and stupid
They HAVE added a 19th type you dumb bastard. Even CALLED it the 19th type when teasing it. This bullshit you bring CANNOT be types, because two are superfluous, both covered by both Psychic and Fairy and the other isn't an innate or inherent characteristic or embodiment of something. All pokémon can make noise, most can learn growl, roar, howl. They all cry out when entering battle and whimper when KO'ed and as for sound-based moves, some who learn them can adapt them to their innate Typing due to how they evolved in-lore (Liquid Voice Primarina, getting SE damage to make up for running a non-STAB move), meaning a Sound type is even more superfluous than the other two (which I concede could be types applied to pokémon. If Fairy and Psychic didn't already cover both Cosmic and Light's aspects between them).
making a sound type is as moronic as making a punch type
Fairy is literally the Magic Type
>it's inevitable
Here are the pokemon types that should exist
>Fire
>Water
>Grass
>Flying aka Wind not Bird shit WIND
>Electric
>Earth
>Metal
>Psychic
>Ghost
>Fighting
>Fairy
>Normal
>Poison
>Ice
>'m saying it's inevitable---eventually, one day, they WILL add a 19th Type, because of marketing.
they did, it's stellar, and it's a gimmick. if you're arguing it's inevitable a permanent 19th type will be added, it actually isn't. gamefreak seems to, on some level, realize all these additions – new typings, new formes, regionals, paradoxes, megas, z-movies, etc. – can lead to legacy bloat if not controlled in some way, and the way we've seen them roll most of these out as temporary, non-committal additions is probably the way things like this will be handled going forward. because of how thematically incoherent even the fairy retcon is – sure, chansey's not fairy because it'd be bad for game balance, but for every other component of the franchise it's thematically incongrous. why's jirachi steel/psychic instead of steel/fairy? what about the gen 4 pixies? etc. – they probably realize it's hard to add permanent, thematically consistent additions to the series from now on. a permanent 19th type is one of those things they are likely to NOT add to this series
>b-but marketing
that's exactly why gimmick additions. get your cake of marketing hype, without having to also go through and try and reconcile it with the series on a permanent basis
The Dark Type shouldnt exist at least the way its meant to be the Edgy type, a type that uses some weird dark energy is already Ghost.
Sound is my favourite out of these, converr stuff like Chatot, Exploud, Wigglytuff, Chimecho, and then moves like Hyper Voice, Outburst, Round, etc. Soundproof provides an immunity like Levitate, some sound based moves like Grasswhistle are still those types, probably. Don't ask me to balance it but I'd say weak to ice, poison and sound (colds/sickness/burst eardrum), at least.
Physical sound moves include:
Ringing Blows
Sound Slap
Bass Kick
Cacophony
Normal type special moves become things like Power Beam, Light Pulse, etc.
Don't add types, make an attribute system and include Sound as one. Sound attribute, rework Levitate into a levitation attribute, etc
I'd like to see an artificial type like Cyber or Virtual.
Man-made pokemon like porygon that exist in cyberspace.
A new villainous team could use them as ways to hack into PCs. They steal pokemon, infect computer systems with virus pokemon, etc.
We would be getting into Digimon territory though...
cyber pokemon could have resistances to every type but be strong against non of them
