With a gulf of death and logistics of near-impossibility between them and their homes back on Earth, it wouldn't be eventual harmless familiarity that registered, but paralyzing fear. It's disingenuous to imply that using a menu to fast travel to empty zone after empty zone - to do nothing but give up and leave after you're satisfied that you found all the nothing there is to find, at no cost, with nothing at stake, with no one to protect and no dire mission nor duty to the progress of humanity as a species - is the same as what the lunar astronauts did.
Starfield is a fricking farce of an inspiration and an insult to the original NASA. It's literally "Safe Space", a padded, streamlined, rounded-corner parody of reality with no threats or mysteries, and as a consequence, not one interesting aspect. Bethesda deserve all the hate and more for portending to that their shallow little playground could ever hope to invoke the spirit of real adventures with real heroes, and asserting that they somehow matched their achievement.

The last Bethesda game I had played was Oblivion. I refused to play Skyrim because I could see Oblivion being kinda inferior to Morrowind already, and I paid no attention to Fallout because it's not my cup of tea.
I knew Bethesda was stuck in the past with an aging engine and tons of people making fun of the bugs and glitches, but still I expected Starfield to be a tad better than a 2006 video game. And it wasn't. These were my expectations, in hindsight I do agree these were grandiose fantasy, but it doesn't make Starfield any less garbage.

I like Bethesda games, so it was worth a buy to me. I did get exactly what I expected, which was mediocre Fallout 4 gameplay set in space. I personally think anyone that let themselves get overhyped is just a sucker, and probably wasn't around for Skyrim or Fallout 4's release. Todd has gotten a reputation for overhyping everything since Fallout 3's supposedly super high number of endings, and has showed no sign of scaling back his marketing-speak as the years pass. Bethesda is ultimately just a business selling a product, so I get it and expect it from them.
So with that in mind, did I expect the space combat to suck, the dialogue to be stilted, the space travel to be tedious and menu-based, the level system to be grindy yet unfulfilling, and the survival/crafting to feel useless? Yes, absolutely. I watched a gameplay video shortly before release, thought it looked just barely fun enough, and bought the game. I had a great time with my space ranger lawman, my pirate scumbag, and my marine enforcer role playing. The radiant bounty missions are decent fun, and amassing tons of credits was cool to outfit a big ship. I think there's plenty wrong with the game, but it was fun.
Skyrim and Fallout 4 are better Bethesda games than Starfield
