Looking back in time, what do you think of Fallout 4? For me it's a decent, entertaining looter-shooter. Even though it's not as good as Skyrim, it still has got that Bethesda slop charm. Though the game fails in most things it attempted, there's always something fun to do, and the worldspace is actually well-made.
as a Classic Fallout fan i hated this more than Brothehood of steel
Ummm, why?
Based. How do you go from New Vegas to this soulless cash grab ?
Bethesda didn't make New Vegas
HOLY SHIT
I can appreciate both but holy frick 4 is a trainwreck I hate everything about it, I have probably played through all the games atleast twice by now, but 4 the only way I can conceive going for another round is to install frost which basically yeets the entire rpg aspect out the window, and even still I don't want to play it as a loner walking simulator stalker clone.
>t.Giant toddler
worry not. our time is soon anon
fun. story sucks though.
Yup
>For me it's a decent, entertaining looter-shooter. it still has got that Bethesda slop charm
this^ its the worst 3d fallout by far, but i enjoy the series and setting enough to still find some morsel of entertainment. the story is abysmal
terrible story and the dialogue wheel ruin it
neat sandbox and exploration thoughever
i dont understand how they downgraded everything in starfield, only upside it has is proper dialogue box, but the "choices" are still the same
>what do you think of Fallout 4? F
Overhated on this board, mostly because its mediocrity came at the same time Bethesda started getting openly exposed for how repetitive and out of touch they are.
The game itself isn't bad, it's a 6.5/10 to 7.5/10 depending on your taste. The problem is that it plays better as a looter shooter with some RPG elements... except it's not a great looter, there are much better shooters, and the RPG elements are lacking. The main quest being lame is the worst part.
But in terms of characters, world design, exploration and quests - it's much better than Bethesda's newest game. Especially the companions. Going from Nick Valentine to the charisma vacuums of Starfield is jarring.
>it plays better as a looter shooter with some RPG elements... except it's not a great looter, there are much better shooters, and the RPG elements are lacking
How the frick does this add up to anything more than a 5/10 to you?
>level scaling
>boring overworld
>boring characters
>garbage graphics
>garbage gunplay
>the entire settlement mechanic
>runs like shit on high end PCs
people who say this game is good beyond the RPG parts are either braindead or trolling
Even a mediocre game can sometimes be kino. Starfield fails even at this.
Dogshit game, worse than stalker. Shit as fps, shit as rpg. Atrocious art style, atrocious level design, le dialog wheel. The epitome of shit game
good mods. that alone makes it at least a 6/10
I bought Yakuza 0 and it was garbage, but i cant mod it so its 2/10
Fallout 4 was bad, but at least you can mod it and the open world is worth exploring, automatically a 6/10.
Way better than shit like Xenoblade and Yakuza 0
Fallout 4 was unforutnate that it wasnt weeb pigfeed, if it was then you will see a totally different story.
Sadly the game was targeted for the CRPG autists and those guys nitpick every fricking game to the death so it had no chance to survive.
>mods
Mods can't fix braindead ai, shit level design and "rpg" elements
yea but thats not what the mods are used for anon.
>open world is worth exploring,
>yay another not dungeon filled with raiders/ghouls/mutants/gunners with red or yellow trunk at the end
>settlements are 2 huts made of junk
Nice exploration shithead
The story is crap but playing on survival and building little bases for myself that i could stop in and rest at on my way to some far away destination was very fun.
Settlement autism was very fun, but the samey dungeon design got old real fast and you have to do a lot of dungeon crawling to get materials for the settlement autism. I feel like they should've nixed the lame find-your-son plot and centered the whole game around choosing a faction and building it up. I could go on and on about how the weapons and balance sucks ass, but that'd be beating a dead horse plus it's something you can (mostly) fix via modding.
I tried to make cities at each one, you can build something surpassing Diamond City at the drive-in theater if your PC can handle it. Hangman's Alley got turned into mini-Kowloon, unfortunately the AI pathfinding absolutely hated all the little alleys I made
I got all my "not muh" hate out during the Fallout 3 days. 4 is pretty much perfect for when I'm in the mood for a Stardew Valley style time sink but also want to shoot things.
If the game didn't make you invincible in 12 levels and if the settlements actually mattered it would have been great. It almost fulfilled my childhood joy of making little box forts in the crooks of video game worlds but the settlement shit is so undercooked and the only semblance of world building from it is if you get that trade line perk and have the traders all walking around.
A sim game developer should make something like Fallout 4. Yeah I know about sim settlements but that's more combat focused, I won't active resettlement in true sim fashion.
Fo3 at least had a strong aesthetic, Fo4 doesn't. Fo4 also committed the crime of using the garbage creation engine again.
I still think the settlement building crap ruins the game.
>hurr just don't build anything
They deliverately made very few real towns expecting players to fill the blanks with their own shitty settlements. It's a garbage addition that doesn't belong, they wanted the minecraft crowd.
It's why I use Sim Settlements 1 and disable the "need a Mayor" bullshit. Just clear out a settlement, slap down the City Manager desk, and let the town build itself. Then you'll have nice little spots to visit, and you don't have to waste time building. And you can still donate supplies and scrap to speed up the process
Better than vanilla I guess but you still have a procedurally generated place with generic npcs walking around. No quests, no unique stories to tell, nothing really interesting to see. The authentic bethesda slop.
Yeah, better than vanilla but nothing great. I just hate building shit, and I hate having empty "settlements." As far as I know it's the only mod that takes over settlement building shit for the player, so it's all I got. Surprised nobody ever bothered completely revamping the settlement shit like Sim Settlements and making actual towns
As far as I could see most mods for fallout 4 are either porn or guns. Modders seem to have given up trying to polish that turd.
If I could make a mod, it would be one to remove the building feature completely (other than for player homes) and make settlements grow on their own as the player completes quests in the vicinity and levels up, with each one acquiring distinct identities and characteristics.
>and make settlements grow on their own as the player completes quests
Sim Settlements 2 sort of does that. As you complete quests in certain areas and make them "safer" npcs will move in, repair shit, and build walls and defenses. They mostly just do it in Concord at the moment, but you can find anchor points where it seems like they intend to add more in the future. There's one over by Bunker Hill and one around Forest Grove, I believe.
Which is cool, but I really wish they'd focus more on clearing out some of the bugs that have been around forever. Like some quests being unfinishable if you accidentally brought along a companion or Aiden randomly deciding to start following you.
I know SS2 is the current and supported version, but I just do not want to deal with a custom questline just so I can have settlements build themselves. I've heard there's an option to skip/disable the quests, but I think it's buggy or something
>but I think it's buggy or something
That's ss2 in general. The mod is dirty and it has scripts that were forceably compiled, leading to broken properties. I've never bothered downloading ss1 because I use transfer settlements instead, but I can only assume that if the same person that made ss2 made ss1 then it's probably the same way.
I had fun with it as a classic Bethesda style open world game. I'm not a really a Fallout fan as such, I played 2 to New Vegas and enjoyed them all but it's not like I'm big into the lore or the series is especially meaningful to me. So I usually don't take offense at lore breaking stuff or shit writing.
It's definitely an American game
>have a child called Seán
>name him shaun to help morons understand moron english version
Both of those names are used in america you moron
>implying
oh honey...
moron
Settlement building is the single worst thing Bethesda has ever added to their games and the fact that they've kept at it like it's some great feature ever since Fallout 4 is reason enough to dumpster any slop they put out.
To me it's better than fallout 3 in every single way except maybe the art style, but everyone insists it's not, so what do I know?
I started playing the game earlier this year with the VR version and some mods and have been liking it so far. The combat is much better than the other games and I like how detailed the maps are along with the immersion VR brings. Settlement building is a real fun timesink which I didn't expect to like, especially when you mod in less ugly settlement pieces. I'm glad that they've kept that feature for 76 and Starfield as making my own fort from scratch is way more interesting than having a premade house.
The actual plot is moronic and I really don't like how things like deathclaws appear at all levels. I enjoyed the more gradual progression in the other games where you start off with a 10mm pistol to deal with roaches if you are lucky and end up fighting death claws and power armor dudes near the end. That's something that mods can't change given that the main quest throws a deathclaw at you immediately. It has more of a sense of progression than Skyim at least given that the encounter zones get harder the further you are from Sanctuary.
Wow just what I always wanted in a Fallout game, all RPG mechanics stripped out so to make room for the shittiest base-building imaginable.
The definition of mid.
This game wouldn't be nearly as hated if they had marketed as a side title instead of a mainline one. When you play the protag as an butthole he's actually kinda funny. They should just have gotten rid of all the fake choices that don't amount to anything and committed to having you play as a predefined character.
>tries to be an FPS
>most guns look and sound like shit and using anything that isn't an explosive or a semiauto rifle just gimps you
>tries to be a looter shooter
>most legendary weapons you'll get are garbage like crippling canes or the tenth piece of synth armor in a row
>makes a big deal about gun customization
>most options are just flat damage upgrades, the only weapons with meaninful customization options are the fricking pipe guns
>makes a big deal out of settlements
>they're barely any fun to build, and you'll need to use glitches to make them not look like shit, and you'll be locked out of 2/3 of options if you don't invest specifically into a science/charisma build
It gutted out the RPG gameplay to try and focus on shooting which is already problematic, but wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if the core gameplay loop of 'get quest -> get in combat -> get loot -> use loot to upgrade your character -> repeat' was actually good and engaging. Unfortunately, it's outclassed by older games like Borderlands. The Fallout universe is pretty interesting in itself so you'd imagine that there would be some memorable stories somewhere in the world, but there aren't any and a lot of the writing simply falls apart under any sort of scrutiny.
What you end up with is a half baked game in pretty much every aspect that only has the Fallout moniker going for it. Not the worst game ever, but certainly not a good one either.
>but wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if the core gameplay loop of 'get quest -> get in combat -> get loot -> use loot to upgrade your character -> repeat' was actually good and engaging. Unfortunately, it's outclassed by older games like Borderlands.
This, i don't why people say it's a good shooter, when most weapons are just so fricking bad in every way, the way they look, the way they sound, the way they handle, fricking everything. And there's no room for build variety
It's pretty great... if you mod the frick out of it. Even simple mods like Start Me Up and Subversion make the game way, way better than it was out of the box to a genuinely embarrassing degree.
Poorly balanced, story sucks, and the simplification of leveling sucks too. It's still decently fun to walk around, explore, and shoot though. Just worse than what's come before it.
Only good on survival mode
The only good DLC was the robot one
Best option is to side with the Institute or Minutemen
Pistols > Rifles
Settlement building is useless outside of survival mode
Crits being something you can activate instead of being random is a good thing
Leveling Charisma beyond 3 is stupid, since you can carry lightweight Charisma clothing everywhere and drink booze for speech checks
None of the companions are worthwhile to justify using after you've gotten their perk besides the robots
>The only good DLC was the robot one
I gotta disagree on this one. Far Harbor was way better than the main game's story
I'll go a step further and say that Far Harbor is actually good.
I was so dissatisfied with the Fallout 4 story that by the time I started Far Harbor I just didn't care anymore.
Maybe I missed out by only paying attention 1/3 of the time.
Not going to download the game and run through it all again just possibly alter my perception though.
Let me ask you something. How does this AI-generated dialogue compare to the one that exists in the game?
https://vocaroo.com/17igfTI0OBD6
(ignore the robotic voice)
All the factions suck except for The Brotherhood. They’re the only guys with consistent motivations. I like how the leader of the BoS was a minor character in Fallout 3.
>there's always something fun to do
I don't consider picking up random trash items to build a gun that looks different but functions identically to every other gun as fun, I also don’t enjoy building shit just for the sake of it. Once you've done the mediocre quests of which there's very few compared to skyrim & fallout 3 that's all there is to the game. Even the combat is boring since they didn't update the AI to match the controls & the aforementioned guns almost all being functionality the same. Worst of all the game goes out of its way to rub its moronic writing in your face & railroads you so you can't ask the glaringly obvious questions it deliberately sets up.
There’s glimmers of fun in the game but it can't go five minutes without reminding you that it's a half assed piece of shit made by people who hate you.
another game on life support by mods cuz its boring as hell without them unless you're really into the settlements and building
proper good game my two gripes with it are the unkillable npcs, bethesda really needs to get away from that and on 2nd+ playthroughs the part where you track kellog and go through the memory den really gets old. other than that, frick it kino
I Only played through it once.
Its painfully average
I was beyond excited when this was released and even stayed home from school for the midnight release. I was 15 going on 16.
I played it for hours and hours, what was my conclusion after repeatedly trying to find good things about it? I hated it, I hated the """RPG""" elements, I hated the combat, I hated the characters, I hated the art design for everything.
I tried the DLCs and it was the same mediocrity with entirely boring and uninteresting settings.
I tried to play it again with the
>maybe I was too harsh on the game, I'll give it another try and see what parts of it are good
and bought the complete edition for like $5-10 on a sale and added some mods for fun.
What was my conclusion? The game was even worse than I remembered. I couldn't even bring myself to complete the game again and just dropped it because it was so fricking boring and bad.
Fallout 4 is truly irredeemable.
The only good thing it did was make power armor feel like power armor.
I regularly come back to the game with certain mods releasing, last being America Rising 2 and it's pretty fun to get to destroy all other factions with the Enclave.
Matter of fact, most quests and worldspaces added through mods are way better than what bethesda put in the game.
It's my favorite game.
I have issues with it, disliked many things about it and still have like 300h clocked into it on steam. It's a good rpg shooter with a great setting, utterly shit main story and countless minor nitpicks.
>story sucks ass
>shitty ~~*bethesda*~~ written quests and locations that are boring chores/fetch quests that suck ass that are the embodiment of all the shittiness of fallout 3's dungeons being mostly a bunch of bullet sponges guarding loot that sucks ass
>setllement system ~~*bethesda*~~ ripped off from modders sucks ass and is both tedious and boring with absolutely no reward and has the worlds shittiest UI
>only praised factory stock part of this piece of shit Modding platform is far harbor, which is literally just a shittier ripoff of a new vegas mod autumn leaves
>combat "is better" than 3, yet still sucks ass, compared to to even a COD game made ten years before it without any mods to unfrick ~~*bethesdas*~~ horrible weapons and AI
Jews hate Bethesda.
A broken clock is right twice a day

here's your final bosses bro
>write shit story
>make the protagonist voiced so modders can’t fix it
BRAVO TODD
I enjoyed exploring locations. Even if the writing sucked and sometimes tripped it up.
For example I thought the Forge might be cool, but it was, in fact, cringe.
I got there and it was
fun game but terrible Fallout game, just skip the first town with Garvey or as I like to call him Black personman and the game is a lot better
is there any reason to pick any faction other than the brotherhood
Piper is cute.
Nope.
MinuteMen
Played up to the power armor mission and uninstalled my pirated copy
fun shooter
terrible rpg
good enough to play
>why does the institute create synths to do do labor when they already have normal robots to do that
>why does the institute keep creating mutants only to release them onto the surface
>why does the railroad (who want to free synths) blow up the only place that builds synths
>why does the BoS (whos main goal is to secure technology) blow up the largest repository of advanced tech on the east coast
>why is it that over 200 after the apocalypse people still live in run down houses and keep skeletons in their bathrooms
>why do all the guns look like shit
They implied in fallout 3 synths were created to do more than just manual labor, they were designed to be leaders, like that Harkness guy in Rivet City
At first I kinda hated it, but overtime it has grown on me. It's prolly my favorite Fallout game now that I'm older and more mature and I don't need to hate on certain games to fit in with the cool gamer crowd. Sure New Vegas has far superior RPG elements, but if I'm going to just sit down and play a game I'd rather not put up with its ugly ass visuals, potato faces and cringe shooting feel. Fallout 4 just feels fun to play and is a game that lets you lose hundreds of hours. I've had enough of New Vegas jank and I'm not afraid to say it. Give me a comfy looter shooter with decent gunplay and base building instead.
You'll like this
That does look pretty neat! I'll be keeping an eye on this to see if they manage to deliver.
I actually really like the settlement system. I went on an autistic binge for like 2 weeks in October building this elaborate settlement network with supply chains n shit.
Haven't picked it up since
As someone who doesn't give a frick about classic fallout it's a shit game. Shit story, shit quests, shit building, shit shooting, shit looting, shit rpg
Literally nothing about it is good. I'm convinced people who like this crap are genuinely brain damaged.
Liked it alot. Mostly for legendaries and settlement building.
On release I hated it. I played through probably a quarter of the main quest before deciding to fartz around with settlement building, before that too became boring.
I reinstalled it before halloween, installed a ton of sex and rp mods, and I'm enjoying it a lot more.
Wait 2 more years. When it turns 10 Ganker will start loving it.
that shit doesnt work anymore.
games that are bad 13 years ago are still bad
Fallout London will save it.
>cool world, it's hard to totally frick up a fallout setting since it's a mature universe
>bad story
>some ok sidequests
>gameplay is alright if you count the exploration in
It's much better than Starfield.
Fun fact, the settlement system was derived from a fallout 3 mod called real time settler but bethesda fricked it up by only allowing you to build in pre set locations
Ever heard of the hundredth monkey theory?
Just because fallout 4 has a similar mechanic to that mod, does not mean that they copied it for fallout 4.
Which mod packs have you used?
I've heard that A tale of two commonwealth turns Fallout 4 into Fallout 3 or New Vegas is that true?
