Looking back, was adding a new type really the best way to solve Dragon types being too strong? Could buffing Ice or Rock have done the job without straight up just inventing a new type that's just immune to Dragon?

Buffing Rock wouldn't have had the same marketing impact.
Expect a new type in the next 10 years to counter Fairy and Steel btw.

Its so jarring because it looks like everythings being set up for a sound type to come in but i cant for the life of me give a reason why sound would be super effective against things besides steel and unfortunatrly ice or fighting. I feel like bug would resist sound which is great. But i dont see the interaction with fairy

Sound is never happening. Everyone thought we would get a Sound or Light type 10 years ago and we got Fairy instead. The next type is impossible to predict.
But there WILL be another type, eventually.

There's barely any Pokémon that uses sounds to make a type for it, but there is a good chunk of Alienmons to make Cosmic type a thing, though

What if they make an Artificial type for Manmade Pokémon?

NTA manmade pokemon are few and easily can be placed under normal typing

          Probably not.

          >Sound is never happening.

          >The next type is impossible to predict.

Sound won't happen because it's the most obvious choice, and has been since before Fairy existed.

Sound won't happen, because it''s an effect, not an inherent elemental trait or affinity. EVERY pokémon uses sound in some fashion, does that mean they ALL should get Sound type? Fricking spastic children, get over yourselves already.

Tbh I don't even feel like it was the Dragon type that needed a nerf, it was a good type sure, but it was also sported by four Pseudos, three of which were really good, and the Lati twins, otherwise, did anyone think that fricking Flygon, Haxorus, and Altaria needed to be nerfed?

Thankfully, Game Freak knew better than "random Ganker anon #987623" and negated outragespam from Gen 5 VGC.

It's literally not setup for sound-type to ever be a thing. Holy frick, stop coping and talking out of your ass.
Sound is a fricking category already interacting with dozens of moves and abilities. A lot of moves in that category are already staple moves for other types.

As an alternative, I would suggest maybe a "Music" type. Like the equivalent of a bard class in an RPG. This lets them pick what Pokemon and moves turn into this type more arbitrarily.

I could see a bunch of Pokémon that either likes singing(Wigglytuff, Gourgeist, Primarina) and dancing(Clefable, Hitmontop, Scrafty) in it, fun idea but inconvenient.

I like Fairy. I absolutely hate that Bug type had to suffer for it to be introduced though (and for no fricking reason too), but i still really like the concept. And contrary to what a lot of chuds may think, it's not a type that only applies to """girly""" mons (e.g. Mr. Mime, Impidimp, Granbull, Mimikyu, Klefki, etc)

            >Granbull
It's 75% female and it's personality is pretty girly, it's literally Dog version of Purugly

We are one generation away from being exactly as far from Fairy as Fairy was from Dark and Steel.

Fairy made more sense than moronic fan shit like Sound

Ghost and Dark need hits more. Water too arguably.

Why not just resist Water and Dragon

  3. 8 months ago

I think back then they were kinda just afraid of change in a sense. Similar to how they didn’t just make it so that Pokémon like Eevee couldn’t evolve into Leafeon with a leaf stone despite it already existing. Instead they created a “lore reason” in the mossy rock. But now they’re kinda learning that QoL changes are ok and change is sometimes good. They kinda did similar with Dark and Steel to fix Psychic and Fighting and the like, but now I doubt they’d rebalance the type chart with a new type.

Fairy being immune to Dragon isn't the problem, its the interactions with other types that caused it to basically just take Dragon's place with Water as the best all-around types.
It needs at least one more weakness. I think Psychic would be the best fit, it's thematically justified and it's been going downhill since Gen I but especially after the Gen VI changes that buffed the shit out of Dark and Ghost types, it really needs the compensation. Making Psychic more valuable also reins in Fighting, which was Fairy's secondary purpose.

Honestly just make psychic resist fairy and bug neing neutral against fairy imo would balance fairy a lot

Psychic would be a ton better if ghosts were weak to it. Currently the type's strenghts are really shit. Being strong against fighting is nothing exceptional, and being strong against poison is pointless when steel exists.

Poison is SE against Fairies but is generally still underused because of how generally it's an ass type.
You want to make it less of an ass type? Make it SE against Water, another overly popular type. It's flavorful (water pollution), nerfs other strong option and indirectly nerfs Fairies by making their already existing weakness stronger.

Outrage was fricking everywhere by gen 5. I don't think introducing another overpowered type to this mix was the right call. But they definitely needed to pierce through the dragon-centric metagame that was dominating.

Frick Dragons, Frick Fairy Haters, and Frick Seethers

they should have made a "magic" type instead. like seriously, it's so obvious.

      >Psychic has Wizards and Witches which quite a few are part Fairy
      >Fairy are literal Magical-Beings, it has Wizards, Witches, Goblins, Trolls, Dwarves, Angels, Genies, Unicorns, Pixies, Sprites, Faes, Elves, Clowns, Mermaids, Yokais, Aliens, and Cu-Siths which quite a few are part Psychic
Fairy is already the "magic" type with Psychic being the alternative.

I just hate how Fairy stole a bunch of cute mons from the other types, especially Normal. I love cute, pink shit, but I hate having a designated type for it rather than having them distributed among the different types.
