The randomizer is pretty cool but how does it balance multiplayer?
I'll play this in 5 years when it goes on a 80% discount.
this tbh, just doesnt look worth more than 25 bucks
Console versions are already $20, I just got the PS5 version for that much.
Seriously? I fully expect this game to go on steep sales often after the world at large moves on from it, and I refuse to pay full price for it. When did it get that low?
Last week.
It's been on sale for $20-30 pretty frequently, I think
It's been $30 every once in a while but recently it's been $20.
>Tripgay is a shilling consoleBlack person
Why are you motherless homosexuals always the worst posters on every board????
Heaven forbid I want to own my games instead of paying for air.
No self awareness. Insufferable moron.
Neat. I've been thinking about replaying LotF2 lately. Despite the performance and some of the bad design decisions, I've always thought that the game was unfairly maligned and in another era it would have been considered a Eurojank classic like Gothic.
Gothic had personality and soul, this is just a poor clone of better games
What does "Soulless" and "Soul" even mean to you homosexuals? I always thought it was just "Janky stuff that clearly had a lot of passion behind it".
Did they add an ending that isn't dying like a b***h or becoming a troony's slave? If not they can frick off.
If they keep fixing this it might be a good game to play at some point after Elden Ring DLC considering there will probably be 4 or more years until the next From game.
The difference is Elden Ring had at least a few endings that aren't fricking moronic.
Gotta admit I really don't give that much of a shit about the ending in a fricking soulslike.
>it's okay it's shit because i didn't expect it to not be shit
LMAO
Yes. If the bosses are good and the rollslop is tight that's all I care about. Some cool ending cinematic is a bonus but a lack of one is in no way relevant to my overall enjoyment.
>it's okay it's shit because i didn't expect it to not be shit

if you don't care about the story of games you're playing, you don't have a soul
Do people really care that much about the actual story in Souls? I liked a few of the npc quests, but I don't really recall feeling anything when I killed most of the final bosses. Gherman is the exception.
Maybe I just want to play a game where I don't inevitably end up either dying or getting enslaved by a troony.
I really like the story in bloodborne but I don't care about it much in souls/eldenrang because it's just fantasy slop.
story in video games is like story in porn, its not needed and is of the same quality too. turning basedboy face over stories in games doesnt mean you have a soul it means you have shit taste and need to grow up.
>quoting a fricking cuck like john carmack as if he's some genius philosopher
So if the ending of the game is your character getting on his knees and sucking a troon's dick it's all fine because LE ROLLING FEELS GOOD?
>that deep voice
what the frick
>your character getting on his knees and sucking a troon's dick
so this is what spending your time on twitter and ragebait threads instead of playing video games does to your brain
>deflecting
Imagine defending that moronic fricking ending, you homosexual. You said story doesn't matter right? So if that's the story it's fine as long as you can ROLL GOOD, right? You didn't even answer the question you cowardly little b***h.
no really tho what's with that deep booming old man voice coming from the girl what the frick
Evil demon god took control of the body of not!Jeanne d'Arc with (You)r help.
gay
Siding with demons is pretty gay, yeah
t. Eldritch fricker
Only ending where you don't die but you're a troon's slave.
You die in that ending. The other one too. moronic trash.
I can see why the bleak endings would sour one's thoughts towards the game, but you seem to be taking them rather personally, anon. I just went with the Umbral ending since killing everyone felt pretty final.
I should say that I do like the story of the Souls games, I just found it pretty secondary to the gameplay. LotF is unfortunately lacking in a lot of likable characters, even if I did enjoy a few of them.
It's already a good game. Fantastic art direction and great level design that's reminiscent of Demon's Souls more so than other Souls games. There's lots of good minor ideas like the armor dye system, gems (I can't remember what they're called, but they remind me of Bloodborne gems), the ability to switch between 1H and 2H movesets mid-combo, etc. I bought it expecting it to run at 3 fps and refund it, but I got a fun 7/10 game that I put 60 hours into out of it.
>great level design
Dude the level design is shit. Its glorified hallways and when it's not it's just ledges with bottomless cliffs
>glorified hallways and when it's not it's just ledges with bottomless cliffs
So...
It's every Souls game?
>great
>level design
I agree with the other anon
>Manse of the Hallowed Brothers
>Sunless Skein
>Abbey of the Hallowed Sisters
>Lower Calrath
Even the arbitrary poison swamp is good. The game gives me exactly what I want from a Souls game: long dungeon crawls punctuated by distinct combat encounters and immersive shortcuts that make me breathe a sigh of relief when I find them.
I like Elden Ring, but it and Dark Souls 3 made the dungeon crawl part of the game way, way too fricking easy. Only Stormveil, Leyndell, the Haligtree, and Farum Azula scratch that itch for me, and all of them except Stormveil have issues with grace placement. Raya Lucaria is a the worst example, because it's an otherwise good dungeon ruined by how poorly paced it is.
level design was great thoughever
Alright, Elden Ring was a disappoinment and I loved Dragon's Dogma 2 winding and intervowen world design. Is LotF 2023 good for navigating old castles and dusty towns?
>Is LotF 2023 good for navigating old castles and dusty towns
Yes. The level design impressed me for the most part, but there's a mechanic that changes the pacing and difficulty of areas depending on how much you engage with it. The sewer and monastery areas are some of my favorite areas in any Soulslikes, including the Souls games themselves. People actually complained that the areas in the game were too "expected" or whatever: old town, shanty town, swamp, hamlet, fort, castle, monastery, etc.
The bosses are okay. I'd consider them more complex and fun to fight than the majority of DS1's and DS2's bosses, but worse than DS3's or Elden Ring's.
Dragon's Smegma 2 is empty as frick, bro, that game is barren and boring
i didn't like the dual world mechanic, simple as.
the complexity it added did not outweigh the confusion
Friend and I are trying to slog through this game now, I recommended it because of how much I love the art. Just finished the dogshit radiant armor quest that is just "kill 50-60" dudes by resting over and over. By the end of it, I just want it to be over. There's no small fix to make this any kind of great fun.
The side quests are moronic, but the ones added in updates are even more so because they were forced into the existing content with little rhyme or reason. I took one look at the
>descend the entire frick you chasm while tuning a melody :))
one and said frick this
Devs do this a lot where they place stuff in the game because they have seen it in other games but it doesnt really fit their game well. killing 60 enemies is too much. they should have made it so you need to kill less. I would have made it a "rare drop" quest item where you need 3 and they have a 25% chance to drop so you dont need to kill that many and feel lucky when they drop. killing 60 of something is like MMO tier grind, it doesnt need to be in a soulslike game. Overall i actually think lords is a great game other than some of the bosses being too easy. My biggest complaints are performance issues, i feel bad for the devs they had such a negative reception on launch because people were running at the edge of cliffs without checking their blindspots then getting pushed off by easily predictable enemies. The devs dont really understand (how moronic is the majority of) their audience and had too many gotcha moments to catch people being dumb, or too many multi enemy fights that require actual strategy/multi tasking.
do you still clear entire football fields worth of distance between weapon swings?
Is this worth playing if I want something similar to Dark Souls 1?
The way I'd describe it is
>Demon's Souls level design
>botched attempt at Dark Souls world design
>Dark Souls 3 combat, but half of the weapons feel good (polearms, fists and claws, greatweapons) and half feel like you're ice skating (1H swords, axes, and hammers, dual wield daggers)
>ranged combat is something every build uses, unlike FromSoft games
Just pirate it if you're curious
The world design isn't that bad, it's just that the game was clearly designed without fast travel in mind, and fast travel added due to either the developers changing their minds or playtesters b***hing. Many of the "interconnected" parts of the world just lead back to not-Firelink (the only place where you can upgrade your weapons / healing) while giving you some good stuff along the way. That said, you can go directly to one of the final bosses of the game directly from the first area and get a frick ton of good stuff early. It makes going down to Blighttown early in DS1 look like child's play.
it's the only soulslike out there that attempts to recreate DaS1's interconnected world
I've noticed that these guys have been spamming patches every since the launch but the user score in Steam hasn't gone up at all. Is it still that mid?
It still has endings where you either die or get enslaved by a troony.
>Is it still that mid?
The game mostly owes its low score to releasing in an awful state (performance and netcode especially), and Souls fans are notoriously difficult to please, so I guess the patches weren't enough to bring people back. Remember that this game used to BSOD people's PCs because of driver errors. I actually had my save corrupted by BSODs twice (but I backed it up), and yet I still recommend it because I think it was overlooked.
Still not buying it.
FROM > Everything.
>built-in enemy randomizer
>built-in loot randomizer
>grey health only from healing
>fewer bonfires
>way fewer bonfires
>no bonfires
>ironman mode that turns it into a weird roguelite
>pre-upgraded loot so you can use whatever you find without farming
>more enemies
Cool
I'd like this a lot more if it were something you could select from NG after beating the game once, but this is still cool. The community will probably b***h at them until they make it a NG option.
Does your character still have ice skates on?
The lunge while swinging was actually a pretty good feature, but only while locked on. Makes the combat feel snappier, but it fricking ruins the combat while you aren't locked onto anything.
LotF's true fatal flaw is the game ruiningly bad enemy variety
Nice. I've been waiting for the randomizer for a while.
Did this update add any new spells or weapons?
not this one specifically, but several before it did
Not sure if there's more enemy variants
>They unironically literally fixed everything
Nobody cares. They should have considered "unironically literally" fixing everything before they fricking released it, and maybe it would have actually sold a few copies.
Didn't it outsell Lies of P?
Expansion when? It leaked months ago.
Probably after this. They stated that this was the "last free update".
>>They unironically literally fixed everything
Did they get rid of that disgusting Dark Souls 2 movement? Haven't booted it up yet.
Coop in this game is much better than Elden Ring, though. Just wish it was more fun.
I don't see anything about fixing the skating while you attack or 3 players coop
>drop a big update
>pay a bunch of streamers to stream it
>dont put the game on sale
thats a shame, id have bought it for 20 bucks
I think the skating is fine once you get used to it
All the weapons I like to play have no issues with skating, except greatswords. I got lucky. I actually like the halberd moveset more than Elden Ring's.
>every weapon per type still shares the same moveset
>every boss that isn't lightreaper, hushed saint or tancred sucks colossal amounts of wieners
Bro, your Pieta?
in the shitter with the likes of adyr and the bird?
How? She's one of the better Souls-like bosses I can remember.
sad I cant get past the character creation screen, game always freezes during the loading screen after you create your dude
Did they fix the dog shit animations?
The bosses are actually pretty good in NG+. Regular NG just gives them so little HP that they can't do anything before you obliterate them.
it's funny how fromdrones shit on the bird and the final boss but sweep bosses like Adjudicator and True King Allant under the rug
What was wrong with Adjudicator? True King Allant also has the excuse of not being the "real" final boss, while Adyr is just really disappointing.
That said, I think that LotF still has a lot of good bosses with unique movesets and gimmicks. I'd still say Scorned Progeny is one of the best giant bosses in a Souls-like.
That said, I am also fond of most gimmick bosses.
>Scorned Progeny
>one of the best
it is the only good giant fight in the entire genre
Adjudicator was ass but at least it was a swift affair, the fricking crow fight is running around dodging icy shit + adds 90% of the time and wail on a b***h that keeps teleporting around the remaining 10%. There were so many ways they could have made this a better boss
I must be one of the few people that didn't really have a problem with the boss, getting through the area was hard enough for me plus I fricking hate snow levels, so a little gimmick fight at the end of it felt like a nice break from all the bullshit to me
>click random part of video
>roguelite mention
>close video
What the frick was her problem?
she hungry
did they ever nerf the Pieta lightsabers? I was dualwielding those because they just absolutely fricked the game sideways but I was in the process of moving towards the Bloody Glory or whatever the big thorned UGS was until I dropped the game for whatever reason
I think they reduced damage and Smite build up a bit?
They did, and Redditors cried that they had "wasted" their upgrade materials on a weapon that is still one of the best in the game.
>good level design
>kinda bad enemy variety
>absolute dogshit bosses
I'm like 80% in the game and the only fights I enjoyed were Pieta and Tancred
Nice. Did they fix the Dark Souls 2 tier animation quality and overall budget feel?
Not cracked yet?
I unironically enjoyed the game when it came out, though I only put like 40 hours into it, not sure if I just rushed the game or what? I didn't get all the endings though, and I attempted a NG+ but got bored after a few hours.
I gotta admit they added A LOT of new stuff with that update, so might go back for a replay. The modifiers are nice, makes it into a genuine rogue-lite experience and they let you keep your experience and inventory even if you die, but you have to start the entire game from scratch.
I got it for PS5 for $20 recently, I'm enjoying it for the most part though it's undeniably jank but I won't hold it against it
If I listened to what Ganker, streamers, and Fromgays had to say I would've skipped this and Wo Long but I just finished that and was having just as good a time in that one as I am right now in LotF
a lot of people expected the devs to pump out a game with Fromsoft levels of quality on their first try and that simply was just not fair, they might have bit off more than they could chew too by switching to UE5, everything about the game was kind of a shitshow but I'm glad it still did well enough to guarantee a sequel.
>a lot of people expected the devs to pump out a game with Fromsoft levels of quality on their first try and that simply was just not fair
I agree, but downplaying the fact that fromsoft did just that with demon’s is insane.
Demon's Souls does not hold up and a lot of the things people assume as Souls staples / innovations come instead from Dark Souls or even Bloodborne
People will say that they did the original LOTF before this, but LOTF 2023's team was actually a new team put together specifically for the project. I think they did really well, even though I think the final product has a lot of flaws and you can definitely see their inexperience in their priorities.
Have they fixed the strength of certain things in PvP yet?
Pieta no longer shooting through walls was the biggest nerf they could have given her
How is the netcode in invasions now? Still major host advantage and rubberbanding?
It's better than before, but still a bit spotty. Nothing as egregious as the stuff from launch.
Meh, the randomizer doesn't randomize bosses, shops, quest/key items. It's pretty interesting running into Manse enemies during the tutorial but I'm not sure I'm going to bother with those if I do another playthrough. The increased enemy density back to what it was at release is ok in my book at least.
Shame they nerfed the frick out of auras a couple patches ago though. Seems dumb to ruin a pve build to "balance" for a dead as frick pvp.
I fricking hate how much of a Dark souls clone it looks like.
At lest games like Surge look different.
And games like Remnant only take basic ideas like campfires, healing and boss arenas, but do combat and enemy design in original ways.
Did these guys make a new game after Surge 2? I can't remember all of these Souls clones.
Atlas Fallen, some open world slop that went under the radar
Threads here talked about it at launch being alright but nothing special.
>Atlas Fallen, some open world slop that went under the radar
just watched some videos, gameplay looks cool, but story and the rpg stuff supposedly is god awful, which makes sense, it was pretty bad in their previous games too
they should have hired a real writer, i mean they dont even credit a writer in the credits, instead they have 4 "nattive designers" who i chacked credits and they are just random gays they had around in the studio
I guess the lantern mods work to stop the horseshit that NG+ does to them? Because that seed bullshit was unnecessary for how bad the HP sponging became.
Do you mean the disappearing Vestiges? It seems like they're making that a NG+ option.
Good, that was annoying as hell.
