for Umbral-exclusive fights, yes. For Axiom-exclusive fights (like the axe-wielding frost guy) getting kicked into Umbral just makes the fight so difficult you might as well restart

The fashion is ok to be honest, but too much of it has skin showing for my liking. One thing it does do that I like is the armor tint system where you can dye sets or individual pieces different colors to make pieces match. Would be nice if Fromsoft did something like that someday.

If you mean in the pyromancer description, what it actually means is "you will get frick all spells or equipment until like 9 areas into the game fighting mostly enemies resistant to fire, while Radiance builds eat like kings and experience the game on easy mode, and then suddenly you get busted weapons and spells and curbstomp the rest of the game".
I went with Dark Crusader and besides the cool armor there is nothing great about the class. The stat distribution points towards a STR/RAD build, but you start without a catalys and with a STR weapon. If you go with the Preacher you not only get a catalyst, but you also get a STR/RAD hammer on top of it. I ended up buying that fricking hammer and I am still using it (just killed the Hushed Spirit) and I ended up manually leveling RAD to 18 to use the better catalyst you get from that NPC on swamp which is the amount of RAD the Preacher starts with.
There is barely any point on going Dark Crusader outside of getting the John Fallen armor right away.
I went Dark Crusader because it's kino, he's on the cover art, and you pick up the mantle of the homie who gave up at the start of the game. It's ludokino distilled.

I would prefer if this game had more movesets, but the overwhelming majority of "different movesets" in Dark Souls is fricking bloat. You never fricking want to use a Broadsword over a Longsword, the Broadsword moveset is just strictly worse. There are lots and lots of weapons with this problem. Alternatively, there are also many weapons that are good for your build because of stats etc, but have atrocious moveset, like every single FTH Halberd in Elden Ring. While all greatswords in this game have the same moveset, it's a good moveset.
I wish I could edit the movesets of weapons in these games, now that would be a good system. Imagine if you could just put the Guardian Swordspear moveset on any halberd in Elden Ring.
Even the fricking DS1 at the very least has two weapons within the class with considerable differences in moveset that dictate the gameplay changes. Claymore and MLGS may as well belong to different classes because of the way they play. When the devs care so little they don't even make boss weapons distinct in any way in terms of moveset, you know shit is fricked. Compare it to lies of p where all boss weapons are unique and powerful enough to define your playstyle.

If people had the choice to give Claymore's R2 to them everyone would do it. Hell I bet people would probably give Claymore's thrust to MLGS if they could.
This is why I say that a lot of it is just bloat and pointless. I am not saying that it's a good thing that Pieta's sword has the same moveset as every other short sword, I am saying that giving every weapon a different moveset just for the sake of it is not necessarily a good thing, some movesets just work and it's fine if they are standardized and repeated on non-unique weapons.

i have been replaying elden ring quite a lot lately so having to press l3+a(x) to jump feels kinda weird. my biggest issue with the control system tho is having to press 2 times b(o) to roll with target lock
L3 and R3 cause drift to occur faster. Mapping something as important to sprint to it as actually the worst thing a dev can do.

you can buy a key to open some doors early, enemies are tougher but you'll also have early access to better weapon upgrade materials, if you can survive

How so? There's more than a handful of ways to progress that aren't a straight line. I have the swamp area and fire area available through different paths

This game has lots of side areas that are completely optional. You'll miss out on crucial things like healing upgrades and lantern upgrades if you miss or ignore them. The segment-for-segment level design is also much more complex.
Lies of P has a whopping grand total of ONE optional area, that area past a gate in the swamp bridge area. Every souls game in the history of existence at least has more level complexity and non-linearity than lies of p and I have no idea how you morons keep trying to push otherwise.

The devs are somewhat competent but they fell for the "let's streamline it" meme. Why everyone who tries their hand at something succesful always fall for that will always elude me. Souls combat is somewhat "janky", but most of it isn't jankiness at all and has a reason, it mainly being the animations not skating like in others subgenres of ARPG. Some places might feel dull while they are in fact functional (or try to be). You don't need to bloat the world trying to make it look cool, it will obfuscate the cool details and you might end up with shit like umbral (tentacles galores) or Hell's version of India (normal world).
I used to love soulsgames and finish them no matter how much i got rekt, but Lotf feels like a literal chore for me to play. I just get ganked by 8 melee and 3 archers way to often and cant even read item descriptions in peace without getting clapped from an archer 50m away i suck at this game

I've found all of the weapons with half their dmg being wither dmg to be a total meme. I'm doing an umbral build so i feel forced to use them, but they suck because an equivalent weapon will one-shot an enemy vs a weapon with wither dmg you have to two-shot. It's never an advantage

I played it for about an hour and between the lack of creativity and the bad combat I'm finding it hard to find the motivation to carry on with it.
Lamp mechanic is kinda interesting initially, but it just encourages me to constantly hold it up and check to see if I'm missing anything.
Everything else is creatively bankrupt and the combat just feels bad.
The appeal is in the exploration and gear collection. The combat is an afterthought. If the combat is starting to affect your liking of the first two, then it's over

For some baffling reason all those doors gate off areas with the same kinds of enemies you've already been fighting, but the content is meant for the player to be like 30 levels higher and to have a +4 or +5 weapon and up first.

That door leads to a higher level area. The game doesn't indicate this very well. You can go there early, but you are going to get fricked.
I realize this but what makes this absolutely aggravating is the fact that these buttholes that are 30 levels above you give the same amount of experience. So me beating that knight basically rewards me nothing. This game is so fricking bad. I like it but it's only going to be worth something a year from now when they actually finish it

Difficulty is the only thing this game has and it's difficult only because it's shit.
The dodge window is ridiculous. I don’t see the point in parrying unless the enemy goes for a multi-hit attack.
It's situationally useful, like against the black reapers that hide in the floor parrying a single one of their attack is usually enough to put them into a riposteable state.
With parries you can facetank bosses and shit on them twice as hard after you stun them. Espectially if you equip shit to do more damage or healing on repostes.
Dodging is the pussy way to play especially with how generous the parry windows are it's just so much better.
Usually enemies have at least one attack that is super easy to parry, I usually focus on dodging until that happens, helps break their poise for big damage

It's weird, because it's really not that difficult. Lies of P was much harder in general, while I'm just kind of cruising through Lords of the Fallen. I guess the best way to describe it is "fun difficulty" versus "irritating difficulty". Playing through Lords of the Fallen feels kind of like being in Blighttown and there's those respawning mosquitos that keep pestering you over and over again. You'd have to be asleep to die to them, but they're a persistent irritant. There's no enemies in particular that I can really point to and say, damn, that's a hard/fun fight. You're really just mowing down trash, occasionally getting slapped with a laser from halfway across the screen, turning to swat the caster that shot you, then continuing.
And then the bosses are just kind of there. I don't know how anyone was troubled by Pieta, but she was roughly Gundyr-tier. Of the ones I've fought, 9/15 were actually just regular enemies you fight later on (sometimes even literally in the next room) with a parasite gimmick attached or some adds. The ones that weren't, well again, not very difficult or interesting. I had high hopes for Harrower Dervla for I beat her in one go and was actually baffled there wasn't a phase 3 or something. There's apparently like 30 bosses though, so I guess we'll see how the next 15 are.

I really like 30 seconds of the game over screen. it's my favorite.
There's so many little things like that that accumulate to make the game feel like more of a slog than it really needed to be. Souls don't auto-collect, so you either need to be in close proximity or pull out your lamp to suck them in. Elevators automatically close so you can't send it back up/down after you leave it, so if you die you have to manually call it back up again. The death animation feels like it was made artificially long to appeal to players that die during a killing blow of a boss to ensure they'll get the boss kill trigger before theirs goes off. Resting brings up a loading screen bar. It feels like the game just wants to waste your time needlessly.
These complaints are nitpicking at best and moronic at worst.

For me it's that the red riposte window is shockingly small. Usually I'm close enough where it doesn't matter but on some larger enemies if I'm not already standing in exactly the right spot I can't get to it before the window closes.

What do you mean? It's a Sekiro deflect, not a DaS parry. Also, there is a sound effect when you hit a parry even when the parry doesn't break the enemy posture.
Except in Sekiro he reacts and pauses for a second if its a perfect parry while in this game they just continue to spam there attacks. Sure there's a sound effect but its meaningless cause the enemy is still swinging like crazy.

There are seedbeds all over the place on maps and many of them are right next to vestiges. NG+ is probably not very different other than the fact that you can only have 1 checkpoint up at a time. The only difficult part will be when you want to teleport to a specific part of a level to do something.

Apparently the Pyro class starts with one and you can buy that from the tortured prisoner, the next one is found in a puzzle under the hub, and then the next one drops from a specific enemy AT THE FINAL AREA OF THE GAME, the next one AT THE FINAL AREA OF THE GAME, and lastly the fifth one is in....THE FINAL AREA OF THE GAME

There are actually six in the game, so I missed one but they were easy to find if you just explore the areas I guess.

I'm convinced Inferno has the most fun/strongest spells in the game. There is fricking METEOR spell, and one spell surrounds you in flaming tornado, another one summons flaming swords from the air to rain on enemies.
All the schools of magic serve a purpose, like radiance is great for buffs and support, but also has damaging spells as well. Inferno though feels so much more raw and powerful. It does SUCK ASS THOUGH BECAUSE All those spells can't be acquired till the final area of the game
Yeah I'm not even kidding, it's moronic. If you wanted to use inferno magic you basically either have to start as a Pyro class or just buy it from the prisoner at the start of the game and use that for the entirety of the game.

There's your starting one, then one you can get from a puzzle under the hub, but you'll want to give that one to an NPC in a cage nearby where you got it, and she won't give it back to you until later. Then the next best one is going to be a bit deeper in from there.

For those wondering here are the secret classes you can unlock, one of them is DLC only, but the other three are unlocked based on which ending you recieve. There are three endings in the game. Radiance ending, Inferno ending, and Umbral ending.
All the weapons and armor for the secret classes can be found on your first playthrough though, so it isn't really special/unique tbh.
You can unlock Dark Crusader too, it's just a pain in the ass quest line across half the game and you have to beat a boss you only get one attempt at.

You have to beat the Lightripper in Upper Calrath with Isaac summoned, but you can only summon Isaac once. Might just be a bug, either way they got my angry 7 bucks.

I've been using a Great Weapon and just dodging, no shield or blocking. Got a lantern eye that converts damage received during charge attacks into Wither damage and gives super armor to charge attacks so most of the game I can just tank through hits and then get it all back with a big swing.

Can't decide what I want to commit to. Every boss I've killed it's much easier to dual wield and then just abuse dodge iframes and the dmg from dual wielding wraps shit up. Feel like one good big str weapon + a shield would accomplish the same thing but I have a shield ready now

It's a long fricking game with a lot of branching pathways and missable shit. The areas feel massive, though some of them were shorter than others to me. A lot of them do feel long though, the final area takes at least two hours or more to fully explore.
