This is a stupid metric being pushed by moronic YouTubers like asmongold. Now, I'm not defending the game, it's a piece of shit, but why is "losing players" something that matters? It's not a fricking mmo where you pay a sub, you already paid them. If you stop playing they still get to keep your money. The game sold well and made them a ton of cash. Everything else is just YouTubers shit talk for views
Are the expacs free? They aren't. And a ton of people are gonna buy them play then for a week and never touch the game again until the next. Even if the player count drops 100% they are still making a ton of bank if they sell a few million copies. Which they will.
Assmangold is addicted to player counts because he's a moron that think of everything with his mmo glasses on. This is a guy that was pouting tmbecauee diablo didn't had wasd movement. It's a guy that never in his life played diablo 1 or diablo 2 but still passes judgment on the arpg genre.
You know where player count matters? PoE. Because that game is free and 100% of their revenue is microtransactions. If Poe loses players then it matters. All the microtransactions in diablo 4 is just an extra way to squeeze more money from moronic players, it doesn't really matter.
I’m not buying any xpacs, bliz is dead to me after d4. This was their last chance. I am def not the only one. Can’t wait to watch it all collapse, albeit slowly, over the next few years.
>why is "losing players" something that matters?
Because the game was entirely structured around the idea of people purchasing skins and seasonal passes. moron. Try to keep up.
You are a fricking idiot. And I bet you think you are being smart because your favourite YouTubers said something similar. D4 made more money on launch month than Poe did since release
Disgusting game deserved to flop. I'm also happy overwatch 2 is a dying flop too, and hearthstone is holding on by a string. Blizzard and any company that pushes these demonic things only has bad things coming for them.
how much of that is actual game sales and how much is stupid whales with more money than sense buying their $20 skins?
funny how they won't release those numbers
>funny how they won't release those numbers
They already did. 10 million copies.
>As of the end of the second quarter, Diablo IV had sold-through more units than any other Blizzard title at an equivalent stage of release. Over 10 million players experienced Diablo IV in June, playing for over 700 million hours, and retention trends for the title are particularly strong.

cope, moron. it's the devs that decided to die on the "live service" hill with dumb shit like >we only just released, have patience >we'll build the game over time (after 10 years in development)
there's nothing to build now, it's over.
You guys are too fricking moronic and you obviously can't think with your own head so this my last reply. The game made them over a billion dollars. The game was their most profitable game ever, not counting wow subs over almost 20 years. >Muh player retention
Oh no, what will they do if you quit right after paying 70+? How can they possibly keep the one or two recoloured extra boss every 3 months coming? How will they find their totally free for sure, expansion that is gonna come in a few months?
Game is dead! It was a failure!
>but why is "losing players" something that matters?
Because ActiBlizz wanted it to be a live service "forever game". They literally built the game around seasonal content and getting people to buy battle passes and skins every 3 months.
>oh, is that fun you're having? >NERF IT >class is ded, reroll and have fun on a different one >REEEEEEEEEE NERF IT >reroll again and get back to lvl 70 >NEW CLASS NERFED AND EXP NERFED HEHE >frick it ill come back for seasons >EVERYTHING NERFED AGAIN AND YOU GET TO DO RENOWN AGAIN AND YOU WILL LIKE IT
sorry guys they learned from their mistakes and promise it'll fixed in a few seasons and by a "few seasons" they mean after the next expansion, pay up another 70 dollars pls
I remember reading that D4 has multiple dev teams working on different features. Full moron, you'll never get any soul out of a bunch of wageslaves running in opposite directions. Typical mega corporation mismanagement.
there are people who not only thought it looked okay enough to buy there are still people who will defend the time they spent playing this abomination
diablo 5 can be even worse and half of you will still buy it
When it was first announced, I was fully convinced that Blizzard was going to make it like Lost Ark, but with a Diablo skin. I don't know why the frick they didn't do that.
Because it's not a fricking free to play game. Players pay full price. The live service part is just a scam, and it fools people into judging it by free to play metrics. Almost nobody uses the in-game shop, and they don't need you to because that's just a bonus from idiots. They sell horse armour surez but it's not fund "the live service" it's just extra israelitery.
Diablo 3 was a live service, diablo 3 had seasons with new content, and didn't need an in game shop to keep going did it? Neither does D4, the game will keep going and pretty soon it will have an expansion and you can mark my words it's gonna sell millions of units, and it will probably cost 70 again.
And then a week later player count will take another nose dive and you will see videos of how D4 is a failure again
There's literally no reason whatsoever to do the open-world content once you've maxed out your map reputation, you get better loot from nightmare dungeons and NMD are boring as a motherfricker.
D4 S1 released on July 20th. Most people already left like 1 week after that when they realized that the season was completely barebones and the core game was unfinished and broken.
>No build variety. >Itemization is insanely bad. >Half of the stats are useless or poorly balanced or outright broken. >All of the endgame activities such as world bosses, whispers, legion events, etc. are useless >The only endgame is just GRs, but without any timer + 1 Uber Lilith boss fight. >Laughably low amount of bosses with extremely boring mechanics. >No leaderboards. >No armory. >No saving loadouts. >No search for inventory/stash/paragon boards. >Only 4 stash tabs(that are shared across all characters) that they can't increase because the game loads everyone's stash tabs constantly. >The entire overworld is completely useless and might as well not exist.
And then right before S1 released, they nerfed everyone's builds and made everything weaker, slower and worse to play. Then S1 released and it was literally just a rehash of D3's gems(except worse). It's just a gigantic fiasco where everything is somehow worse than D3, except for maybe the combat.
Yeah, it was very weird. What was even weirder is that the community came to the conclusion that it was to satisfy player retention numbers, and then the actual lead devs actually felt the need to come out during their livestreams and be like "guys, we swear that we aren't doing anything to pad out the time we keep you in the game, trust us, please!".

People always think that these kind of game should have an infinite end game hamster wheel
that's literally why PoE is much much much better game, there is always more to do
they're treating it as a live service game, expacs are planned to be released yearly along with the seasons
Are the expacs free? They aren't. And a ton of people are gonna buy them play then for a week and never touch the game again until the next. Even if the player count drops 100% they are still making a ton of bank if they sell a few million copies. Which they will.

Player retention on a game with planned content updates is pretty important
Imagine losing over 99% of your customers in a couple of months
>but why is "losing players" something that matters?
Because the game has a bunch of systems that hinges on having a playerbase?
>why is "losing players" something that matters?
Because the game was entirely structured around the idea of people purchasing skins and seasonal passes. moron. Try to keep up.
You are a fricking idiot. And I bet you think you are being smart because your favourite YouTubers said something similar. D4 made more money on launch month than Poe did since release
a whole bunch of shit eating blizzdrones getting fleeced is a good thing.
I got it free with my wow gold, feels good
>it flopped!
>s-sh-shit eating blizzdrones are getting fleeced!
Pathetic.
>Name is Devil
>Makes 666 million

it's a live service game you fricking dumbass
It's not an offline single player game you need people to come back and spend money. Why are trannies like you are so dumb and low iq
You guys are too fricking moronic and you obviously can't think with your own head so this my last reply. The game made them over a billion dollars. The game was their most profitable game ever, not counting wow subs over almost 20 years.

Game is dead! It was a failure!
Does anything you just said sound like good financial decisions for a company with the goal of growing in the future?
Blizzard continuing to shit on its own legacy isn't a long term win.
Because word of mouth is the best form of advertising
moron blizzdrone
>but why is "losing players" something that matters?
Because ActiBlizz wanted it to be a live service "forever game". They literally built the game around seasonal content and getting people to buy battle passes and skins every 3 months.
the game is built around being live service. if there is noone to service to a mere quarter after release, it has failed tremendously
Blizzdrone cuck, it’s literally a live service always online mmo. The second the player count gets too low the game gets turned off forever.
...are you forgetting the battle and season passes?
any game with cringe battle passes and seasons is fair game for player retention memes
>oh, is that fun you're having?
>NERF IT
>class is ded, reroll and have fun on a different one
>REEEEEEEEEE NERF IT

by firing everyone in your company that knows how to make a game
Season 1 filtered them.
game is shit, focused on the wrong mechanics and doesn't prioritize player fun
I remember reading that D4 has multiple dev teams working on different features. Full moron, you'll never get any soul out of a bunch of wageslaves running in opposite directions. Typical mega corporation mismanagement.
I'm interested in the game in the future, more player the lost, less they will ask as price
I would have kept playing after finishing the story but they keep nerfing my dudes. Makes it feel like I am not even making progress.
there are people who not only thought it looked okay enough to buy there are still people who will defend the time they spent playing this abomination
diablo 5 can be even worse and half of you will still buy it
they should have made this game a full mmo
When it was first announced, I was fully convinced that Blizzard was going to make it like Lost Ark, but with a Diablo skin. I don't know why the frick they didn't do that.

its still very popular, sorry to burst your israeli bubble
I actually enjoyed the game up until I finished it. The end game is fricking horrible and season 1 was a total joke.
>single player game with live service slop seasons
how the frick does that even work
Blizzard can't succeed. Horrible management, they should hire me.
>horrible management
have you seen the names? all glowies
There's literally no reason whatsoever to do the open-world content once you've maxed out your map reputation, you get better loot from nightmare dungeons and NMD are boring as a motherfricker.
Baldur's Gate 3 came out.
D4 S1 released on July 20th. Most people already left like 1 week after that when they realized that the season was completely barebones and the core game was unfinished and broken.
It was already dead before BG3 came out.
I don't understand how anyone could fall for this game after Diablo 3.
POESISTERS??? HOW DO WE RESPOND???
can someone give me a quick rundown on what happened? I haven't played diablo since d3.
>No build variety.

thanks anon
That town portal time nerf seemed especially senseless and spiteful.
