Lots of high profile flops lately. Is the Second Vidya Crash finally upon us?

AAA Crash maybe.
Indie is doing just fine. Only really far reaching problems is it might make Microsoft and Sony stretch out this current gens lifespan longer.
It will not officially crash, but it already is crashing.
Don't focus on the sales of a handful games, focus on the overall sales for the entire industry.
This is gonna get uglier than hollywood.
Microsoft had the right idea about having a gimped console because budgets are going out of control. Imagine actually wanting a PS6 when they can't even do anything with a PS5 and it's been three fucking years.
https://twistedvoxel.com/project-athia-pet-project-next-big-thing/
They actually think twitter is real life.
>Imagine actually wanting a PS6 when they can't even do anything with a PS5 and it's been three fucking years.
This is honestly triggering me, they're still making games for the old consoles and there's really not much benefit for owning a PS5 other than the game runs a bit better than on the PS4.
>three fucking years
>the ps5 has been out for 3 years already
I can't even name other PS5 exclusives other than DS remake and the Returnal or w/e it was. Maybe some Ratchet and Clank game was exclusive too?
Returnal is on pc now
>woke game
No
snoy considers the pc market "part of the playstation ecosystem" now
PS5 debacle is nuts, they saw that no one actually owned a PS5 and just abandoned it
It's pretty sad, I got a PS5 on launch and I barely have used it during the 3 years. Mostly I just buy some games that have a botched PC port and even then they still occasionally crash on the PS5. There's really not much wrong with the actual console itself, but there's just no reason to buy one because there are no games on it that can't be played on other systems.
Hopefully people understand there's no reason to buy a console at all. In order to get you to buy one they had to hold games hostage through exclusivity. It's a pathetic attempt at selling an underpowered Fisher Price toy PC.
Covid and low production/scalpers grabbing the few that existed.
No joke, im sure this would be fucking WAY different year 1/2 if we didn't have fucking covid ruining production numbers and supply chain issues. Scalps will always happen, but when they scalp 99% of available units in the US? Nah, fuck you, thats why sales of ps5 games are low, NO ONE COULD GET A FUCKING CONSOLE.
its also why ps4 versions existed as a backup for those who could get ps5.
>75 million estimate
lol the writer of the game said it was 100 million on their linkedin
>focus on the overall sales for the entire industry
The only thing that will tell you is that they had a huge boost from covid lockdowns and are quickly realizing that they can't hold onto their formerly captive audience. Every entertainment industry is getting hit with it.
Indie is doing fine because nobody notices when they flop
And because they are usually digital only
It won't crash but AAA games are reaching the point where even normies are sick of being fucked around and being fed shit games. They'll either wise up kind of like EA did with Dead Space Remake or keep making shit and go bankrupt, probably like Square Enix is going to.
>They'll either wise up kind of like EA did with Dead Space Remake
>reaching the point where even normies are sick of being
yes, of course
>or keep making shit and go bankrupt, probably like Square Enix is going to
God please happen. I just can't understand how you can keep making trash and still stay afloat.
>It won't crash but AAA games are reaching the point where even normies are sick of being fucked around and being fed shit games.
Those are the exact conditions that led to the first video game crash, the companies making games thought the gravy train would never run out as long as they kept shoveling crap out the door for people to buy, and any failure was a failure of marketing or a failure for some reason, any reason other than the systemic reason that there were too many shitty identical games and there was no point buying anything new because it was all the same tripe.
and inb4 coping, SE officially called this a flop
>and many small and mid-sized titles "did not perform as well as we had expected"
Maybe they should have scraped forclosure and given it's budget to it's smaller title's budges and marketing
>They saw Avengers flop, why the fuck didn't they take steps to avoid this?
Cause they are fags
woke-burger-chud-moronlover games must flop so the industry can heal itself
Atomic heart is a light at the of the tunnel
Atomic Heart has soul, but barely any substance
They saw Avengers flop, why the fuck didn't they take steps to avoid this?
How are these businesses so fucking incompetent? They have ALL the power to make good meaningful games, they had and always had the framework to make masterpieces and legends, they made a ton of them afterall.
So how in the fuck does this happen when everyone with a fucking brain can see the writing on the fucking wall?
No not really. Gamecompanies are just producing schlock that no one wants to play.
Name 5.
flop... spoken
babylon... fell
dragalia... lost
dont lie, deraguri makes money
It flopped from the gates and the only reason it kept going was because Cygames try their hardest to keep their games alive. Honestly I dont know why did wyrmprints in the gacha pool to begin with, by the time they changed that they were already bleeding money
it shut down
Saints row
Calisto protocol
Anthem
Halo infinite
The new mario+rabbids game
And theres no way in hell skull and bones will see a return on investment since its taking so long to make and they legally cannot cancel it.
>The new mario+rabbids game
Wait, the game is already out? I haven't seen anyone talking about it.
Apparently the new Fire Emblem was also a flop.
Its out and ubisofts reported it sold less then original even though the switch has a bigger player base
No.
Make shit, sell like shit. There's still developers that want to make good games, but the rest can all burn for all I care. A whole lot of amazing games have been made by a small bunch of really devoted people, we don't need AAA games with a bloated cast of people working on them.
My guess is that we're seeing more remakes in than we already are. Making entirely new properties is getting too risky and costly.
I hope so. Game budgets are so bloated now that every AAA game has to appeal to every single dumbass on the planet because they need to sell 10 billion copies just to break even. It’s too risky to do that kinda shit with new ips so they just keep remaking old games or make games as service bullshit which is just made to siphon money from people 24/7
i hate it
>Is the Second Vidya Crash finally upon us?
No, you retard
The industry's too big and spread out, it's like asking for a movie industry crash. What you'll actually see is individual developers/publishers dying here and there and their assets being consolidated among the bigger ones, again, like the movie industry.
is she going to do porn now that her career is dead
AAA will never be good again for a very simple reason that nobody wants to admit: brain drain. Spending 70+ hours a week in crunch mode making vidya was worth it in the 80s+90s for smart, talented engineers. They could make a FUCKTON of money just programming. In 2023 anyone that understands mathematics well enough to be a skilled coder would be full blown RETARDED to work for someone like EA, Bethesda. They're all working for Citibank, not Capcom. This is exactly why even an ultra high budget AAA title today feels like it was made by community college tier idiots that took a class on level design rather than electrical engineering. Nobody wants to admit this because itll kill the whole AAA industry. You can't hold up the illusion of quality if everyone is fully aware that the employees eat their own boogers during break time.
EGS money.
>t.ranny
EGS isn't free money, it's a loan that's expected to be paid back.
Are you aware of the concept of supply and demand? Why would GameStop give credit for something that there's way too much of and no one wants?
I was at GameStop yesterday and saw one copy so I’m sure you could get at least 15$
Loans to enforce their woke agenda
The EGS money doesn't help. But, bro, most programmers at EA make $50k or less. It's 100% brain drain. Games feel like they're made by morons today because they actually are.
Most AAA games would be fine if it wasn´t for the fuckery at the top level.
Publishers hiring trannies and feminists as "writers".
Publishers shoving open world and GaaS bullshit in every single game.
Teamleaders just being incompetent.
I don’t get why you would throw them away, it wasn’t that bad of a game. Otherwise just trade them into GameStop and get credit
The actual game isn't being thrown away just the steelbooks.
As someone notated in another thread retail companies can actually get more money using it as writeoffs instead of selling the steelbooks for a dollar/giving it away for free.
Those steelbooks are going for $25 on ebay, I wouldn't mind having one
i will buy it only if Ella put a nude photo
Showing her Slavic inclinations. Likely a depressive, hence the choice of projects doomed to failure. Many such cases.
i hope so
>lots of high profile flops
>it´s pretty much just Forspoken which everyone knew would bomb anyway
have a nice day zoomer.
Factually wrong and obviously cope.
>Factually wrong and obviously cope.
Games that focus on a linear single player experience without bullshit still turn out fine.
See Dead Space.
Prove me wrong gay.
>dead space
Original or remake?
Irrelevant since the complete game is new except for the story which anyone could come up with in 5 minutes.
Remakes don't count. 90% of it's sales were from nostalgia. If dead space was a new IP it would have performed as well as Calysto. I.E. horribly. Great game, but you can't use a remake of a beloved title to guage modern AAA.
Callisto's biggest sin was it was too easy.
but callisto is relying on dead space nostalgia
If a new star wars title was called star battles it would flop. The name is what sold dead space.
Rogue One sucked ass and used the Star Wars label, Han Solo a Star Wars Tale?
Rogue One is literally the best Star Wars movie since the original trilogy.
>Since Jedi
not a high bar
No
Agreed
CP was made by the same guy who made the original DS. And it would´ve been fine if it wasn´t for that bullshit melee combat.
All those games aee in the trash because of racists.
JUST STOP MAKING moronSHIT
MARVEL IS moronSHIT
NETFLIX IS moronSHIT
ITS. NOT. ROCKET. SCIENCE. FUCK
Show me pictures of the game being thrown out rather than just promo material
You'll buy the skins, you'll do the daily challenges, you will enjoy your second video game job. Profits will be higher than ever.
is... that CSGO?
what happened
Only the top 2 pictures of guns. The third picture is Dota 2 and the bottom three are PUBG.
That shit is gayer than black ops 2
> 25$ for a guy with a low quality sock on his head
Blackrock literally deals in trillions. These are acceptable losses in their money laundering
So what happens when a game flops? Like what's the vibe at the office when you realize your game only has a few thousand players on Steam, reviews are bad, and it looks like there's major problems with the launch?
You understand that most AAA development is done on a contractual basis, right? Nobody is sitting in the office talking about anything, they got laid off the day it shipped. They're working on something else for a different studio. The 5 people still on the team are just patching like they've been doing for 2 years. They're called code monekys for a reason anon. Why the fuck would you keep a programmer on for multiple titles? So they can demand a raise? Kek, replace them with the intern, rinse, repeat.
>muh next game crash
I've been hearing this for 10 years now. One or two game companies putting out a shit game each quarter does nothing to bring about a crash
the week 1 cope attempts were legendary
the faces were 'i hired my friend who never modeled anything in their career' level
lol would be funny if Japan use this as a response to why they dont want black mc in their games
>5th best reviewed game, out of 5
i think that one is supposed to be a joke bro
the videogame crash is never going to happen again, and if it does, that means the world is ending. the only reason the first one happened is because every single dev was pumping out complete garbage all for crazy expensive prices for years, leading to the consumer being completely fed up and every other piece of entertainment being objectively superior.
it's not gonna happen again, video games are too ingrained in the culture and they're are too many of all kinds of price ranges and accessibility. maybe a bunch of triple a devs will die, and if so, that can only be a good thing, but video games as a whole is not gonna go away ever.
On top of that the video game crash only happened in the US.
>it's not gonna happen again, video games are too ingrained in the culture and they're are too many of all kinds of price ranges and accessibility.
What passed for cheap indie games - homemade games for early PCs - did fine in the original crash too. In fact, it allowed a lot of them to make the leap to real game developer. The Ultima series and a lot of adventure games got started in the midst of the video game crash. Fucking EA was born out of it.
>1
>lots
>t.barry
>Ace Attorney icon
Fuck you, Barry
>playing a visual novel
What a homo.
Shut up fag
I've been continually hearing about the next vidya crash being right around the corner over my roughly 25 years of internet use. Not gonna happen and you should like a fucking retard for even suggesting it may.
If there ever was a second vidya crash was in the mid-00s when all the low-midbudget publishers died. Nobody noticed because everyone that was still alive was making beaucoup bucks.
Anything else is just TORtanic-tier failure obsession gayry
A bunch of AAA duds isn't going to kill the market, just like live service oversaturation is just going to be a spectacle of failure and not an incredibly destructive phenomenon. If these situations kill Square-Enix, it's because of years, arguably decades of mismanagement rather than a few high profile failures.
The other half of it is the market is diversified enough that a company failing is just a speedbump. Forspoken failing isn't going to affect Nintendo for example, or any of the big four. There's no shortage of consumer enthusiasm when you make games people actually want to play.
fuck i want a Keijo game now
I can remember people calling for another video game crash for like +15 or so years on the internet now. And yet, it's always the same misconception that somehow one or two companies going under would affect the entire industry's baseline. This shit ain't a monopoly that's reliant on a single company, and hasn't been for the longest while.
FF XVI flop will be the true signal. Gamers will finally ascend. Nomura arrives at SE HQ with a fleet of chariots. Stella-Fag throws self into a volcano, becomes a God.
Barry
Yes. Barry takes all XIV players unto his Australian ranch and forces them to massage his large assortment of dairy cows. The milk from said cows is used to power a nude contingent of Single Player RPG fanatics who make the first Anime Girl Real.
I really fucking hate the retards who think everyone is Bazzy and don't even know his basic MO. Completely ruin the name.
It is ok Anon, they will all be forced to work for Barry's whims and his cows. Ironically, they will joy in this servitude, as it approximates the grind they are accustomed to. Being trampled by Cows is the new Ultimate Raiding.
Shut up, Barry. Your game flop.
and ff16 is next chud
Cass in point.
Better raise game prices again, that will surely help sell more copies
>Cut back on marketing budgets
>Quit chasing the graphics dragon and focus on good design and art style
>Take risks on new IPs and game designs
>Lets the players make mistakes and figure stuff out for themselves
>Quit trying to make playable movies
>If you want humor in game write actual humorous scenarios. Quips are not humor and Joss Whedon needs to be tortured painfully until he dies.
>Cut out all the predatory bullshit like loot boxes and GAAS
There, I fixed it.
And no forced diversity and wokeness
He already addressed that in:
>Cut back on marketing budgets
Anon did you forget about all these games that do meet some of that criteria?
>failed woke games
Asano team is saving SE dirty woke ass
Live a Live was fine.
No
The only good games nu-square has made are:
>dq11
>trials of mana remake
>All team asano games
and thats it.
who made Tactical Ogre remaster?
I forgot that one, it was good too.
SOP is fun although it is fair if you give that one to Team Ninja instead. Still, it shows that they could do good by NOT developing and simply loaning out the IP.
We need a PS5 edit
Reminder my good anons that Bahamut is a homosexual dragon in the newest Final Fantasy.
They could have moron-maxxed as well if they wanted the "good boy points", and yet they chose this most amusing half-and-half strategy. I look forward to the threads once the game releases, it will be very funny.
>any thread at all about something Square related
>half the replies are obsessing over whoever "Barry" is
How did you get so mindbroken?
snoy are dumb nothing new
The people who bring up Barry out of nowhere are more retarded than that dumb fuck ever was.
I think we're getting to a point where some of these older companies are not as bullet proof as they once were. Square Enix has not been doing great work for years. FFVIIR was good according to the general public but not like the greatest game ever. FFXV sold well but reception on it wasn't. It takes a long time to erode trust but with a steady stream of mediocre games that don't appeal to people, it happens
