>Some of the most boring dialogue imaginable
Am I getting filtered? There's less words to read in this game yet the dialogue is just so god damn boring. Is there any good visual novel games that actually have interesting writing? I feel like skipping this one for the Silver Case or Zero Escape. Please recommend some actual good visual novels with good writing.
those Fighting Fantasy games like Sorcery! and the Warlock on Firetop Mountain
based
based steins filtering new gays
good thing people start with steins instead of umineko or no one would ever get into vns
VNs suck. There is almost no intersection where a good fantasy/sci-fi novelist also wants to create a picture computer game. At best they'll lisence an inferior adaptation of their work for the hell of it. VNs being one step up in writing from the average anime is enough for most weeaboos.
>VNs suck. There is almost no intersection where a good fantasy/sci-fi novelist also wants to create a picture computer game.
I love anime and reading but god damn it.. It's just DIALOGUE. If they added some effort into it like a book I think I'd stick around.
You know what I think you're right and I haven't even played these games yet.
If you expect something else from VNs then sorry bro but it's all downhill from here
>Enjoy those Fighting Fantasy games like Sorcery! and the Warlock on Firetop Mountain
Unironically try Baldurs Gate 3, Disco Elysium, other popular rpgs
You know this board is shit if you're afraid to recommend the only real rpg to come out last year.
Starfield?
Baldur's Gate 3, the only rpg to release in a sea of fake-gay-rpg-lites like Slopfield. For some reason it has to be "unironic". BG is legendary, only zoomers think it's "woke shit".
Projekt Passion but don't expect anything aside from reading from VNs lol
Titles like Baldr Sky is an outlier
steins;gate stands out as having some slow parts that filter people but overall is still pretty good, especially once it gets going
it's not even close to the best vn out there but it's solid all around and there is a good reason it's so popular
i would say s;g is close to the best vn out there. It is pretty amazing the whole way through. The writing, the music, the pacing, the art, it's all so kino. I cried so much towards the end
come back in 100 vns
The problem with VNs is there are so many different audiences. Some audiences just want yuri makeout sessions with a loose story tying it together, others want the author to pretend to be intelligent by quoting some arcane french philosopher every two lines, still more want the writer to be a gun nut and go into intricate detail about guns. Some VNs work for some people, others work for others. there's a reason why muv-luv and steins;gate are so highly regarded
Highly regarded amongst amongst newbies, maybe. It's decent at best, nothing it does it particularly noteworthy outside of having a good idea for a time travel plot.
>a good idea for a time travel plot
that's really all it takes, I have zero interest in visual novels but enjoyed the anime
Really? You don't care about anything else?
I like profound time travel stories, Steins;Gate happens to be one of them.
Replying against my better judgment
It offers the most satisfying mystery/thriller story in the medium, lovable characters with iconic designs and great voice acting, and a really nice soundtrack to boot. It's notable for having some of the best pacing in the medium and not completely floundering at the end or outstaying itswelcome like so many other popular VNs do.
This is why, on aggregate, it is recognised as being one of the very top experiences in the medium. Even the adaptation is a good time.
You'll deny it because your mind is already made up and you want to push some other thing as being better, but hopefully someone fresh will read this post and be convinced to try it out. Claiming it's not even noteworthy is the meaning of disingenuous.
Nah, you are just a joyless autist. Go back to reading motherboard user manuals for "interesting writing".
Sorry that I find dialogue style VN writing boring. Like jesus christ.
you should be fricking sorry about it, you came here and made a thread complaining about it like you have never watched a television show or a play before and those are all dialogue
I'm really sorry. I was just wanting someone to convince me maybe there's better VN's out there. I really am sorry man.
your mind was already made up and trolling when called out on your shit thread is not the proper response, now frick off
Jesus man I am sorry. I am not trying to troll you man I am really sorry that you took it the wrong way. I'll reinstall Steins;Gate and give it a shot again.
you are not obligated to like things but it is foolish to consume things and then be surprised they are exactly what they appear to be
if you really really need gameplay in a vn you go play zero escape or danganronpa, if you really really need internal narration you play 428 or mahoyo or something
pick a genre and ask about it instead of disliking dialogue in a game about talking
Yes sir. It won't happen again and thank you for your response.
S;G starts out pretty slow, it's not until the gang have a big party that the story kicks off, and after that it's all quality stuff all the way to the end. Personally I think the VN is worth it for the huge amount of context and having the time to really FEEL all that suffering, but you sound like you have OCD, so you might as well watch the anime, it's a solid adaptation.
my friends didn't continue cause they thought the beginning was "slow" (impatient morons) so he might have the same issue as the game lol
VNs are just books with pictures and sometimes a choice every 30 minutes. However, unlike a most books, VNs share more in common with LN/WN and they are less concise. All of these tend to be extremely wordy, and will be a slog if you aren't really into the material.
VNs are nice, but they are absolutely not for everyone.
TL;DR: The genre is largely the same. You'd probably fare better with a book or comic/manga/webtoon instead.
I got to the normal ending of Stein's Gate, is it worth it to replay to get the secret ending?
well yeah it's the rest of the narrative, it's also worth specifically getting 0 true end flags for the alternate ending but you can youtube that shit instead of going through it yourself if you want
these are the ending flags
no just watch the anime and anime 0 and anime movie
you got baited into reading a vn with bad characters, sorry bro.
VNs fricking suck bro this has been known since forever
enjoy carpal tunnel spam clicking through filler dialogue while the screen can fit maybe 2 sentences max on screen btw
Read Swan Song.
Then Kara no Shoujo 1 and 2.
VNs are just boring. Don't force yourself to play a genre you don't enjoy, homosexual.
I remember I tried to watch the anime first but couldn't get into it then I tried the vn on a whim and loved it
Sorry op you just got filtered
You aren't getting filtered, Steins;Gate is one of the most overrated vn/anime.
Literally the best VN ever conceived, designed and written. I feel bad for anyone whose brain is wired wrong and can't enjoy it.
I'm an avid VN reader (read every single day) and I've never played Steins, not even because I despise its unexplainable popularity, but because it just seems like the most boring story EVER. You just confirmed my suspicion, so thanks.
What a gay
Kiss my bee-hind.
Are you self-aware enough to realize the delicious irony of you, a Steins bot, typing that reply out?
>Steins bot
I haven't played it either, but I'm not going to decide it's boring trash without having at least tried it.
>I've never read it but I just know it's boring
>unexplainable popularity
Thanks for letting us know you can't think for yourself and to disregard your opinions.
Whatever you fricking freak.
If you're actually interested in visual novels as a genre, stick to the 90's (80's is great if you speak Japanese). That's where all the great ideas were, and at the time the big hitters used it to tell stories that wouldn't be possible otherwise, rather than using it to keep costs down. There were VNs made during that period that bursted with innovation, and as a consequence ideas from these games were pilfered within and without of the genre.
kurisu a cute
Do you mean "Kurisu is cute" ESL-Kun?
>Is there any good visual novel games that actually have interesting writing?
yes but you have to learn japanese for that
How do you get "filtered" by reading?
