I can't comment on ER, but I really enjoyed wandering in SotC.
I really enjoyed how desolate the overworld was. Feeling so lonely, made it more intense when you found a Colossus.
Yeah the fact that the world has literally nothing in it (except lizards) and yet people have explored every single bit of it looking for clues just tells you how much that mysterious lore sucks people in. Bluesharters fricked it all up when they put collectable orbs into the world. Such a simple and efficient way to completely ruin the game.

I just explained how. You used to explore knowing full well it's a dead world, with your eyes searching for nothing but clues about lore and worldbuilding. You were looking for big picture stuff as you explored, piecing the world together.
Now you're looking for hidden shiny orbs. That is the exact opposite of looking at the big picture.
Frick that man, I was looking for stuff to find when I played that game back in 05. There's no big picture, its an empty world full of ruins and a few unused areas. I liked that at least there was something to find for all your exploring and not just vague landscapes.

there is no open world game that is similarly "empty".
Death Stranding gets close. Apart from the checkpoint stations there isnt really anything of major interest in the open world. Its just landscape, which is the point i guess. But you do have the mule bandits, and the ghost homosexuals and all the online players junk so I guess you can *really* call it empty.

The camera work was all but perfect. Every once in a while it interferes with playing the game, but 95% of the time it really sells the size and scale of the game.
I didn't know eating fruit increases the grip bar (I read the manual but it was badly translated) I managed to complete the game but the last colossus was on a knife-edge.

Just found out it actually increases max health. I should have eaten lizard tails for increased stamina. Oh well, I completed it the hard way.
It doesn't. Eating fruit raises your HP bar slightly each time to a max. But to increase your stamina "circle", you need to hunt down the small black lizards with the glowing tails, kill them, and take the tails. They're usually found at most save stones like the sporadic shrines. You can also stack it with games played, meaning I can start a NG+ and just add to my stamina with each playthrough.
I watch the Jacob Geller video and replay the whole game at least once a year, great memories

I like the game but hate how bluntly it smacks it's main theme over your head. Black tentacles knocking your out every time you kill a colossi. It's like yeah I get it, grief can be selfish and lead you to doing bad things. I don't need it smashed over my head like 15 times in a row.
