Your character can age, rebirth, eat food and gain weight, play and custom make music, and so much more. You can be anything and do anything all at once with no downsides. From non combat related skills like cooking, tailoring, blacksmithing, trading goods in a commerce, carpentry, etc. to different styles of combat like melee, magic, ninja, archery, puppetry, etc. all on 1 character.
Although graphics and gameplay is still a bit dated, even after 14 years the game is still rich in content such as fashion contests, cooking contest, jousting, playing in or viewing large concerts, training pets, and so on and continues to be Nexon's most generous game.

Should I dip into Archery or Magic? I remember reading Firebolt was good, but I'm also doing Life Skills for more Dex so Archery sounds good too, unless Humans are bad at it or something? magic is a pain in the ass to level up in old mabi. archery is pretty easy but magic looks and feels a lot cooler

Magic in Auranogi is strong, but it's hard to start with, Firebolt is good, but you'll need to be able to pay for repairs (int is honestly pretty easy to get in terms of AP costs though).
This wiki can still be helpful, but skills don't necessarily match an official version, and in some cases have custom changes to them. G13 may not always be accurate.
archery in old mabi is meh unless you invest in arrow revolver, magic is very AP expensive but worth it as you just need a chaincast/ego fire wand and then you can destroy any content

C4 is the second shortest chapter but still kind of a slog with having to deal with avon feather cooldown and a few non-skippable cutscenes

You can do group content immediately such as dungeons/shadow missions/field raids. You can unlock Sidhe Finnachaid early with a quest that has a TL req of 500. Tech Duinn and Apostle Raids are unlocked by completing their respective storyline gens can still join raid parties without doing the stroyline. Glenn Bearna and Crom Bas require their own prerequisite quests like Sidhe to be able to enter, you get the quest for Glenn Bearna after reaching a total Arcana level of 50, and you will get Crom's quest after you've unlocked Tech dungeons.

This is commonly believed misinformation. Main Nexon made both Theta and Demo/Ruin, but TW greenlit them for release whereas KR did not.

KR players did not like Theta, Demo, or Ruin. Thus, it was not released in their home server and did not wreck their home balance.

I have no idea how much truth to this there is. However I do know that Nexon KR does create all content, including region exclusives, the features are then either enabled or disabled in each region's client and server.
Sounds like a huge mishandling of this content. Releasing it solely on TW alone would rub KR players off the wrong way by default.

i really struggle to play current mabi as a new player but i actually played mabipro a lot recently. can i play live more like mabipro? i like how much slower it is and i feel like i understand the skills im earning more than i do on live, on live i think im around level 20,000 but i have so many skills that i have no idea where to start or what to use and why
you experiment with your skills and see what playstyle fits for you, the game even tells you what's beginner friendly: melee, magic, chainblade. utility becomes important later on and that's when you start picking up skills from puppetry/ninja/alchemy/gunner

Move speed is meta in any point and click MMO. I remember 1 point and click MMO I played that gave out free 50% move speed buff event items that lasted like 10-30minutes. When those buff items were release, the game felt so different that they eventually added those items to an in game shop that were cheap to buy.
It felt like you were hacking and nothing else mattered because you were a beast at dodging bosses. It also made raids and dungeons so much better because the dungeons were crazy long too where some, you didn't even need to kill anything or hit any switches, you just click on the mini map and have your character move to the end. That alone could take as little as 5-8 minutes per floor.
Most dev are too scared to give out move a lot speed, they know how broken it is.

Stronger than every other talent by a large margin. EK just brought close combat up to speed with the rest of the meta. HS made healing a viable playstyle and offered a decent buff to magic, which was already strong. DD powercreeps both and you're just playing the game wrong if you use anything other than DD. Now there are no healers because DD is just too good to not use. Then there's the opportunity cost, instead of giving an arcana to a talent that needed it, they give another one to magic. It's a bad release.

Having dedicated healers goes against Mabinogi's ethos. Remove HS and put it in some trinity raiding mmorpg. Magic still suffers from loading times when all other skills have been transitioned to some shitty imitation of an action mmo. It's only good when you're able to actually get the magic off and kill something before everyone else does.

Metallurgy is an option too. I don't know what server you're on, if you're on MabiPro or Auranogi you can go to Nekojima to get lots of gems for an ego weapon at the same time. If you're on retail, you can also mine in Tory Ravine instead of in Barri Dungeon.

DMs are great in tech and crom, but I really think they made dragon raids worse. We're back to the pre-revamp problem where they die so fast you can't get any contribution and now we have the new problem of impending death and no healers. They actually put contribution caps on healing, so anyone who decides to heal is doing so altruistically.

Because its not good. You don't use smash in your fighter/EK rotation that often, you don't use bash at all except for upkeep, and you lose the bash-spam with mouse click (Even if you could bash spam like you can atm its not worth)
Melee shit is good for baseline melee, it really did need the help - it still doesn't fix EK. Even doubling all of EK's mults wouldn't fix it and that's insane to think about

However it is still a point to be made that on equal piercing, AS is preferred; DM wins because of the bonuses from piercing, but its still a resource management issue that at wrong points can frick up a run

i still disagree with this because it is far easier for DD to shred prot with prag and thunderblight than it is for AS to shred with brionac
this doesn't even account for the fact that shadow flare does about 2/3rd the dmg that meteor does on a 10 second cooldown
DD is in a tier of its own, with AS behind it. HS is utility and EK is in a powergapped bottom tier

Of course archery pulled ahead in places like Glen or raids where you can use a campfire but it still paled in content like Feth where the sprints between orbs allowed EK skills to come off cooldown.

You choose to protect the scroll (item loses durability as in the old system) or protect the item (scroll is lost). Enchant protects will protect the item from losing durability but not the scroll from being lost.

Choose to Protect Item is a new option that acts the same as an Enchant Protection Potion but it destroys the scroll on failure.
With the latter now being an option, you can now opt to buy up a lot of cheap, high rank enchants such as Spike to throw on your weapon without worrying about blowing it up.

Yeah, if you choose to protect item instead of the scroll you don't get the R5-R1 penalty of getting the 'unable to scroll' lockout. You will lose the scroll entirely as a consequence, but this is great for more common yet really strong enchants like Officer.

Tbh I was begging for magic buffs, but we got those in the form of pierce from demo/ruin staves. Ruin staff allowed magic to keep up with EK without an arcana. Now that magic has a dedicated DPS arcana, it totally eclipses not just EK but every other playstyle. AS is also stronger than EK but people don't complain about AS. DD really is just busted.

magic is and has been the most cost-efficient dps talent for a while. you get 21 on a staff and get an insanely strong, cheap power spike in the form of hailstorm spellwalk. at level 63 spirit you get another power spike in +2 int magic chain casting. once you get techniques you get another power spike from time shift meteor. now that DD exists you get another power spike on reaching arcana. the last "cheap" power spike comes from demo staff, which is another huge boon.
magic used to be the underdog but those days have long passed.

There's no way you played back then. Sure AP was a bottleneck, but the real bottleneck was the material grind (especially before alchemy), crafting skills were relatively cheap AP wise, but extremely expensive time wise.
Also live was 3 weeks post Iria (if you rebirthed to age 17 of course). The server in question is 1 week (MabiPro is 2).
Whether or not retail is better... depends on what someone is looking for. Retail is a very different game from what it once was, for better and for worse.

Only people who got to R1 very fast and were 'well respected and loved' was because lot of mats back in the day was whole guilds and large friend circles funneling materials into one person. Debatable, they have a lot of custom content just like Auranogi does. Personally I think that's a good thing, but if you're a purest, it ain't it either chief. Both servers play pretty similarly for the most part if you don't get down into the gritty details.

You realize these need to actually be developed and implemented right? Yeah the developer got the bridge working in a newer area, but not all of the content is actually implemented, only unfinished bits and pieces. The server is only feature complete up to like G4, with maybe some curated features from later versions. Calling it G4 isn't really correct, but it's more accurate than calling it G25.
I think that some of the newest content is good, and I hope Nexon keeps up with that, really. Credit should be given where it's due (I really like the new mainstream/side quest stuff too).
But really, I just like the slower pace of how the game used to be more. I don't want to rush to the endgame for the soul crushing equipment grind to get to the "good part", I want to play a game I find fun from level 1 where I slowly build up my character. There's still an equipment grind, but it's less pronounced compared to the skill grind. That's just my own personal experience with the game, I'm sure others feel different.

You need to install the current version of Mabinogi to run this server. It has renovation content from G25. It has multiple features, maps, and UI that were implemented between C6 and C7. No where in hell this server is closer to G4 than G25 all because the devs choose to nitpick features into the game while locking the rest out.

Because the main dev's vision for aura is to be a pre-dynamic combat server, therefore being oldschool and is slowly implementing the generations to be in line with how old mabi was, it took him years to add Iria and last time I checked (almost two years ago), the dev still stated the server was more like G2+ due G3 onwards not being feature complete, that the game have G4+ content unused is because it hasn't been fully implemented yet as the progress heavily depends on taking parts from live and manually adding it into aura what I'll give to you is that the lead dev is big into 2hu so he puts developing/implementing things related to 2hu as high priority, there's also that attempt at pokemon's combat system

The developers themselves never obfuscate this fact, on both their own website, and on posts like this, it is mentioned that it's a G25 client, but the actual available feature set is feature complete up to G4, with some extra bells and whistles, with more content in development. This is why people keep calling it "G4", since nothing about the gameplay is like G25. This has been mentioned already in this very thread, but I guess reading is difficult.
An emulator is basically an application that tries to mimic what the official server is doing, which is how most private servers run, unless they use stolen official files. Without having access to the official source code (which hasn't leaked in any capacity, the server leaks that do exist, have the compiled server binaries, but no source code). Basically it's not running anything through the live server, but an older version of the live client, which gets routed to the server the private server runs on.
Mabinogi is an extremely server sided game, so the server can actually modify a lot of things without even needing any client modifcations whatsoever. In many cases, simple mods to the XML files to add anything new that is needed can also be done, which is also how any data mods people use on official servers work too. Because the developers have also created the source code themselves, that also means they have full control of anything happening on the server side, without needing to hack anything in to inject it into the server, which is what servers like MabiPro have to do to add anything that can't just be a simple XML or mint script change.

This is easier said than done. Keep in mind, this game has been running for over 20 years in Korea, which means there is over 20 years (the game was developed for years before release too) of server sided features, as well as any dialogue (All NPC dialogue for example is server sided, so that's another hurdle for development, the only exception are cutscenes) that has to be logged or recreated. Not to mention these were all done by a team, and not just an individual or two. To actually create a feature complete G25 server, you would need a large team of developers, and also ones that are working on this near full time, rather than as a hobby project that only gets a few hours of dev work per week.
And unfortunately, as already stated by
, the current source code had to become private because Nexon continuously tried to DMCA the project. There is still code around, but it's from 2017, and unfortunately only has features up to G1, and even those aren't feature complete.

Stop running in a guild made up of your alts. Alternatively take your alt guild and run Alby adv HM in groups of 4 (or 8 if you don't wanna bother with yarn keys) and get the 8 boxes from the end boss, which is two boxes per person. Spamming the Tech mission Feth adv would work but if you're having problems with super short modern day Rundal in a group, you probably can't do it. Veteran dungeons are also good, were you capable of doing them in ~5 minutes.
You might just want to find out what else sells nowadays and sell it, erg mats, barter mats, stardust quest mats or whatever. You can run commerce and sell sturdy pouches or combo card extensions or pet house blueprints.
If all else fails, take your guild and get in the Defeat the Shadow Wizard mines with some shadow crystals, if they're cheap enough.

demo DD wins landslide victory
DD comes out at top in terms of raw damage.
The main advantage AS has is dishing out widespread AoE burst damage, which DD can also do just as well especially once they have Link 9.
You'll probably see Alchemy Stingers unload their burst faster than Dark Mages, but it doesn't mean shit if the AS can't finish their targets off.
Generally speaking, a demo bow AS should have enough damage to handle Glenn Normal, Crom Bas 0-30, and Tech Elites, but may as well be deadweight in any more difficult content.

i actually don't think the new reaper outfit is that good. i think it's still BiS for DPS, but that's more due to a lack of competition on that front.
it's a 5% chance to activate the buff on crits only, which is another 48.5% chance assuming you have everything maxed. unless you're a Way of the Gun spamming dual gun main this isn't going to be happening that often. speaking of, the uptime on the buff (20 second duration, 90 second cooldown) is pretty bad, even if you manage to immediately trigger it when available again.
the buff itself is sort of underwhelming too. 30% movespeed is pretty nice, but the 30% attack delay does nothing unless you're using normal attacks, so Way of the Gun and Final Hit peeling i guess? crit damage is a 12% increase but i'm betting most people don't have an alban crit dmg totem yet either, which has 100% uptime instead of relying on a low chance passive buff
it's still the best thing you can get for DPS, but i wouldn't call it nuts.

The only saving grace is that the recent Arcana talents and skills have introduced a new wave of power creep that turns techs into a joke, and allows you to at least get your foot in the door with grinding entry level Cram Bas and Glenn.

The physics and game logic is still on older engine and unreal just handles graphics.
Demons Souls did this as well as System Shock, Shadow of the Colossus, and the rumored Oblivion remaster.

Pragarah + flameburst infinite stun cancel. It's the most efficient way in dealing with higher erg rooms.
To expand on what this Anon is referring to
Mobs in Crom already have really high prot/magic prot. There are mobs called Dark/Frozen Caris that have a big circle around them that gives even more prot to all the mobs in the circle. You can't unga bunga your way through it. Mechanically, you're supposed to seperate the Caris from the hoards of mobs but it's way easier for you to activate the technique Pragarah, which reduces magic defense and magic protection per hit. An erg 50 cylinder using flame burst has an insane amount of hits, so it absolutely shreds all of these mobs down to nothing. The cherry on top is that only the last tick of Flame Burst knocks mobs back, so you can Flame Burst -> cancel and reload Flame Burst before the last tick to keep them permanently locked down.
Honestly the issue here is Alch has no Arcana
You are prepared for that but I agree that you're fricked at the moment; regardless you can still make money with Glenn norms (Sell mats from currency shop) and anything below Crom/Theta

I DID have fun, when it was under the guise of "I will be useful to the guild once I achieve my goal of s erg 50 cylinders", as my past goals of "completing all generation content", "completing all skill ranks/dans", "completing all gm ranks" made me more useful to the guild.
NOW, Im completely demoralized because the goal I achieved will only benefit the guild in 1 dungeon, for 1 specific monster. If I keep in mind the fact that the guild has already completed high% crom before, it only diminishes my usefulness, because it implies that either the guild already has a solution for the frozen cari question or has outside help for it. Therefore, the already .1% usefulness I can give is already even less than that.

You can still do a lot of damage with Water Cannon and Heat Buster. Alchemy isn't a talent good at clearing trash, so it's gonna look bad in stuff like 8 man vet dungeons or speed running, but you can still be useful and eventually end up carrying people.
You still have a lot of room to grow, and getting erg 50 was honestly the most expensive part. You have so many cost effective upgrades you can make now

It's not even true that Water Cannon doesn't need ego. The Ego ultimate ability reduces Water Cannon's delay, so Water Cannon needs a level 63 ego while Hailstorm only needs 21.
I'm going to preface this by saying you are still going to lose to magic because it has an arcana that boosts its damage while alchemy doesn't.
You're missing a shitload of damage because you don't have the raincasting water damage reforge on your body wear. That's like a 2x damage boost from one thing. Cressida wear is another 15% damage boost for flame burst and water cannon. You also need to get a water cannon combo card. Once you have all of these you'll be doing a shitload more damage. Yes, magic can output a lot of damage at low investment, but it's an outlier in how strong the return on investment is. Compare the damage you'll be doing to other talents and you'll be less angry.
Did you even use BFO for this test?
Alchemy benefits from the max that BFO gives whereas Hailstorm does not. Even the Blaanid Lute should get you like ~30% more max

Defense is only 9 right now. most of my combat skills are sitting around 9-8 with Combat Mastery and Ranged Attack being the only ones at 5
light gargs can be one shotted easily, nexon even used them as a bonus training area when rebirths werent free at all
I just ended up Magnum Shotting them to death. They stopped doing an assload of damage when I equipped my shield though, so I'll remember that if I ever have to melee them.

Depends if this server has "Ancient" titled mobs or not. Otherwise you have to craft it from very hard materials to get or hope 1 bow drops from a ghast or master lich in Peaca intermediate. Custom server, so custom rules, so anything I say can't be 100% accurate.

Staves and 2H swords can cope with A Rank. Other weapons generally need S Rank.
I did S on my 2h sword and got up to 45 just because I could. It takes a long time to do and as others have mentioned, you can always transfer it later if you have something better down the line. Its better to at least get one started and utilize the bonuses than have nothing at all until you're endgame.
