Your character can age, rebirth, eat food and gain weight, play and custom make music, and so much more. You can be anything and do anything all at once with no downsides. From non-combat related skills like cooking, tailoring, blacksmithing, trading goods in a commerce, carpentry, etc. to different styles of combat like melee, magic, ninja, archery, puppetry, etc. all on 1 character.
Although graphics and gameplay is still a bit dated, even after 14 years the game is still rich in content such as fashion contests, cooking contest, jousting, playing in or viewing large concerts, training pets, and so on and continues to be Nexon's most generous game.

Is there a rough estimate on how many journeyman reforge are needed to get r1 on an item? I ask because I managed to get 2 r1 reforge on 2 different weapons using the free journeyman reforges from the growth guide rewards. So that was like 750 reforges.

I think that besides some dumb drama that happens in /vm/ communities anyway, outsiders aren't the main issue. A bigger issue is FOMO associated with run limits that most people don't hit anyway, and rewards that incentivize solo/duo play. Cliques form around more consistent parties for that content whether it's midgame or endgame. The more tryhard types will opt to run easier group content solo and reserve endgame content for an inner circle of gigawhale pubs for 5% more efficient runs instead of taking and training /vm/ players. Fun and camaraderie isn't a factor unless it fits their goals. Easier group content is an obligation that needs to be finished as quickly and sloppily as possible to get back to the content that actually matters with the players most likely to provide the most efficient runs.
All of this is a natural result of having a smaller community and weekly content limits, so I can't blame anyone even if it sucks. You can't control what other people do or think and it's a waste of energy worrying about what you can't control. All you can do is try to go against these trends and hope that others do the same, but it's more tempting to say frick it and play something else. After all, it's only a game. If you're not having fun, you have no obligation to play and can always come back later.
With all of that said, the biggest problem is post-Master Plan burnout and differing schedules/time zones. Outsiders, content limits, reward distribution, and cliquetism are miniscule compared to those two factors.

i care way more about the fact that re:fine actively punishes you for playing with people. run limits turning techs into yet another weekly is just the icing on the cake, and you'd better get those done as close to reset day as possible or it's pubs for you. maybe this wouldn't matter if drop rates for techs were buffed but they honestly seem worse than before.however, the core of the issue is that re:fine and run limits make it much harder for spontaneous party play to exist.

This isn't a matter of them not teaching content either, it is a DPS, gear, skill, and wallet (read equip slots) check. DD took care of the first requirement, but it does not help the other three. No one in the guild is at the level where they can take along players that cannot pull their weight in things like Glenn HM or Crom 100. Notice how these are also limited. The only endgame-y content that people aren't doing that they should be capable of right now is Theta.

I like everyone and would like to play with them at whatever stage of the game they are at. I miss everyone who no longer plays and everyone who left the guild and doesn't stay in contact. It feels awkward steamrolling earlier game content in group runs, and I feel like I'm ruining peoples' fun though.
However, a lot of recent changes have crippled my desire to play the game.
I thought that I could adapt to the death of mods and cousins, but it was how I managed to grind out resources and money without needing to nolife or whale. I have a strong aversion to repetitive grinding, so they really helped with that. They also helped with weird side projects, meme weapons, dyes, and other stuff that I love doing in the game. Playing how Nexon intended kneecapped me. In the past few months I've more or less burned through most if not all of their resources that I've built up over the years to keep up with the current endgame and in anticipation of the cousin-killing update. It managed to net me a couple hundred million gold worth of resources and sales, but now there's nothing left but (currently) worthless items, untradeables, and memes. I tried whaling for gold and spamming gacha, which worked, but feels disgusting and more or less just kept up with what I used to do with cousins. All that's left is legitimately grinding on one or two characters like Nexon intended, and I can only stomach so much of that. The hype train when clearing difficult content or cool drops for someone in the party give enough fuel to tolerate a night's grind, but that's just for one night and needs to be earlier on.
Plus normie life is more and more emotionally and mentally rewarding. I'd like to play after irl commitments like work, socializing, etc. but I'm usually too tired to do anything but talk after all of that. With that said, I love hanging out and talking. Unless things ingame are set in stone to put in my schedule, I usually get invited to something.

How it actually works in game is that DDs spend $0 and outdamage better players because DD literally plays the game for them. Don't need to worry about dodging, just tank with mana shield and refill your mana with lucky strike. Don't need to worry about your AOEs separating enemies, drop a vortex first. Don't feel like playing the game? Just use thunderblight and it will for you.
ek is nowhere near as good as dd and mage shit is piss cheap to get into

pretty much, there's no real downsides for a mage wearing heavy armor and you want to focus on hat/glove as these are more realistically obtainable and give the best bonuses in the long-term

Focus on ranking your skills first. Getting R1 on most skills should give you the bulk of your STR/INT/DEX/WIL/LUK which in turn adds to your defense and protection.
Then do G22 to unlock Dampen Shock and Blunting Field, which gives you an additional 315 defense, 150 mdef, 15 prot, and 58 mprot.
Those stats should be enough to get you through most mid game content. The amount of defense and protection you get from nearly all armor is pretty much negligible, compared to skills and techniques
I'm really trying not to skip generations because autism. I did back when Shakespeare came out for reasons and it really messed with me. Took forever to find out where I was in the story.
I have most of my combat and magic skills to rank 1 already. Is Dan important too? I kinda started it but it seemed like a pain so I put it off. I can keep working on life skills but God damn is it a lot of farming different items sometimes. Weaving in particular is goddamn miserable. I like blacksmithing and refining though.
tbh G22 is pretty easy to get into without much context since its the beginning of the Apocalypse Chapter, so it shouldn't really be a problem to skip to it and then go back to G19.
I disagree personally since that chapter uses a lot of old plot threads from previous generations, if you care about the story anyways.
It does, but OP said they completed up to G18. There's not much Divine Knights lore you need to know other than the existence of llwellwynwynn.
There are some appearances of the other knights later in the chapter, it might be a bit confusing if you didn't play c6, although the finale of G25 doesn't make much sense and has a huge spoiler if you didn't do G21 first.
i did this without knowing anything about the story and the dumb case-sensitive story quizzes confused me
also the existence of eirawen and llywelyn but those didn't feel that out of place without context. it was a shock to see the latter actually show up in his intro gen though, i forgot g22 wasn't his debut
You don’t need to cap every skill; if you want to get more defense, cap str skills. Cap your other stat based on the talent you use.
If you are at the point you have techniques unlocked, work on dampen shock, and blunting field; blunting field’s requirements are more gear centric.
Dampen shock can be unlocked with your str stat (if you’re not an elf). If youre and elf, cap str stat skills as well as get Defense Dan 3 in order to meet the requirements.
Danning skills not too important imo, but Dan the skills you use for damage plus Defense
Besides getting levels and gear, you are also required to get good. The game doesn't teach you that last part anymore, so good luck and stop getting hit.
Do you have arcana unlocked? I can't imagine struggling damage wise doing gen quests with arcana skills.

In theory sounds fine as the milletian was already shown to be used as basically a living experiment around the time demigod was implemented, so why not become the catalysis of hybrid skills?

The first patch of arcana were fine. EK brought close combat up to speed with the other meta talents and HS is mostly utility.

Shakespeare was very cute (theater is fun and Avon is a lovely place) before the last episode tried to tie back to older stuff and it ended up feeling weirdly abrupt. I completely forgot about the Triona thing until they brought it up again at the end of Saga and I thought it was a joke until I checked the wiki to confirm. and Lanier is my wife

I think Merchant of Venice was not that bad though because it was mostly new stuff from what I remember, but Macbeth tied into too much old story content and made it worse for me

The presentation of it being different matters to me more so it's not like it was completely copying what they had already done, but there were better choices for plays than Romeo and Juliet, but it's probably one of those things where "well we're doing Shakespeare so we HAVE to do Romeo and Juliet" because it's THE play, despite its lameness. I actually thought the whole bit with Shakespeare and Belle was in that gen because it would sort of make sense thematically, but I think that happened in a later gen anyways? I persist in my stance that A Midsummer Night's Dream gen would have saved the Shakespeare chapter as a whole

I know, already gave up on having EKUSUPROOOOOOOOOOOSHON skill, a.k.a. /killall command as a skill.
Nexon already proved that is willing to waste devs time by making them code custom skills like the ones from Unlimited Meme Works and then never bring them up again.
Kind of that but you build on it, instead of another tab, the EK skills replace the regular skills, like building on top of them, every time you use instill (element) all the skills become a hybrid taking the element's characteristic, like how magic + dorcha is.. kind of (frick you Nexon, you had the perfect opportunity of giving the players a proper wind skill and you fricked up)
But you know what I mean, the talents complementing each-other, rather that being just a few skills added per arcana
