But at the same time it didn't walk you through which of those observations were actually correct, and you also needed context from sidequest lines that realistically you would not have been able to finish all of, like requiring knowledge from job quests in a game where it took months just to level a single job. So it expected you to sit down with your friends and work it out together.

Whatever Mabinogi is becoming is basically going to be a new game, and with how much content exists in mabi that would have to be revamped, I dont get why they don't just make a sequel.

I wouldn’t say it’d Jae that long. Most of Mabinogion assets are very simple in and to there’s a huge amount of asset reuse. There aren’t many maps in game and the big ones are mostly empty. The only difficulty would come from the game not truly using 3D models but texture wraparounds so they will need to covert them to models supported by modern tools

I can't tell if rose tinted my nostalgia goggles are for Mabinogi. It's a janky korean grindfest mess, yet it had some meaningful unlocks (transformation, demigod, intermediate/advanced magic, new skill trees). Interesting new toys are fun, but the process of getting them (frick the glowing statue for final hit, old expiring magic pages requiring ordered enchanting in) and grinding them up to max (windmill R1) was awful. I can't recall anything similar out there. Vindictus is fun but the grind and gear checks ruined it for me. I'm surprised Mabinogi is getting an upgrade, expected that shit to be on life support.

Regular Mabinogi has a lot of bloom by default. The sun can be very blinding at times.

Nexon has gone out of their way to refuse to answer questions about the Mabinogi overhaul. They won't even address the scope, and how it'll affect questing or combat.
The two aren't comparable. Mabinogi is jank built upon jank built upon jank. Endgame combat barely functions if there's even a slight bit of server latency, which happens quite a bit. Upwards of 90% of the game's content is deprecated, which begs the question of whether it's going to get updated or if they'll just cull it out because of how much work it'd take to port to a new engine.
Regardless of how many issues you might have with FF14's wildly inconsistent storytelling, homogenized class design, or nonexistent endgame, the game itself still functions. You can't say that about Mabinogi.

You no longer pay for rebirth cards. However there's a reforge mechanic that's a money trap but you can save up and buy your reforges or earn them in game.

Yeah, normally when a new mmo expansion comes out you see other players running around questing, and you group with them to do quests faster or kill rare mobs or something.
In FFXIV it's just a bunch of people standing around npcs with movie icons above their heads while they watch cutscenes by themselves and then auto-running to the next NPC that they'll stand around for the next 20 minute cutscene.

what you eat determines your fatness until you rebirth which can be done once per week
that's also when you choose your age but you can only go younger, never older

Fresh servers are fun in mmos like wow/eq classic because players benefit from having many other new characters to level and quest with. FFXIV's leveling experience is just watching a movie by yourself, so there's no point.
I get how this would work in most mmo's but mabinogi is a little harder to pull off. Mabinogi is more of a sandbox mmo with a shit load of content that spans from combat to noncombat related stuff so a lot of people work towards a wide verity of goals. Because of that your server, let alone mmo, needs to rely on having a big population which mabinogi will never reach unless its Korean version. The think the NA version only sees about maybe somewhere around 3k active players(I'm taking a guess based on old ingame related rankings so a lot of them could be alts).
A new server would be pretty cool, just not sure if there is even a player base for that now. With them updating it to unreal 5 tho it might get some people who never tried it because it looked so old, would be a great time for new servers (not having my billion pets would suck tho)

there are a lot of RPGs out there were early level gear is useable late game, mabinogi is one of those games. You can use all sorts of gear for everything but there's still a feeling or progression. You're not just locked out of doing content because your gear is bad, there's ways to make it work. XIV is just a pure number game. If you didn't clear X dungeon to get Y gear you can't clear Z Raid. Very formulaic
I mean the itemization in the game is pretty shit but unless there's some incredibly powerful gimmick weapon you're going to be using the +10 sword over the +5 sword 99.99% of the time in any game
