Their investors wanted larger profits, so they are flooding their own market with too much products that's into competition between each others. The only reasons why they are making record profits years after years right now is the fact that whales is one hell of a drug, MTG card market investors acutally buying set boxes and Blackrock giving them money to be as woke as possible.

WotC has been soulless for a LONG time, man.
It's weird how long it's taking people to understand how dead the company is (obviously I don't mean financially - it's still printing money).

Stranger Things Secret Lair. They've recently reprinted these as "actual" MTG cards. See
The only big Infect flier is Skithiryx which nobody plays, the only infect creatures that see play are the cheap small ones that get pumped 5 times in a turn
There's literally too much MTG product coming out now. I new set every fricking 2-3 months and sets cannibalizing the sales of another set like what just happened with Battle for Baldur's Gate and the new Double Masters
Double Masters is going to be a fricking disaster. They're going to move so much product it will kill the next three sets.
There's a reason they delayed the Warhammer 40k products by a few months, and it wasn't just a supply issue.
>cannibalizing the sales
the data shows otherwise, the sales are better than ever every year since they started pumping out product like moronic, regardless of quality of said product
WotC will do fine no matter what because "investor" whales will scoop up every box they print. It's the LGS that make half their annual income on MtG sales that are going to suffer from it. Lots of stale inventory no one will buy.
You're looking at the data wrong. The people who buy the sets are investors like Alpha investments. They buy crates upon crates upon crates. These people will basically always buy new sets even when the players aren't because it's an investment to them to sell later down the line when demand picks up. The problem is even they have a limit and there's already concerns about so much product being shit out and IIRC there was already drama with one of the recent sets crashing I think and LGS' having another closure event and running with pre-order money
Same thing is happening with Warhammer 40k, 8th edition came with promises to release less books, now we're through 9th and they have more books than ever, entire lines getting re-introduced, Squats are back, more types of paint than ever
It's really ironic that they've teamed with Hasbro for the Warhammer 40k commander decks, it shows they're both in the same mindset.
If they made the free core rules less fricking trash they would actually destroy OPR, the idea that a free ruleset for the game picked up popularity when you MADE YOUR CORE RULES FREE says a lot about how bad they are
Just play tabletop sim anyways, they're starting to include actually painted and photoscanned 40k models and it looks insanely good
They keep it in a ~~*discord*~~ and not on steam workshop so they don't get insta deleted and you can ask people to play games.
They're also slowly beginning work on copyright friendly proxy models called "warforge".

So Warmachine?
I will check out the link though, thanks.
That's cool.
I was looking at getting into photogrammetry to make some 40k models for TTS. Looks like someone else did it already.
Got a link to some high quality ones? All there was before was jank.
I've been looking into 40K lore, and, at least on the surface level, I like it. But what's the tabletop's gameplay like? I've heard that you need a lot of dice.
Depends on format you play and all that but outside combat you don't use a lot of dice.
If you're interested in it, I'd recommend checking out Killteam as a starting point, it plays a bit different since it's about individual units instead of squads/vehicles but you can build a KT for very cheap.

I actually would reccommend Killteam, i leapt right into 40k with a combat box and kind of regret it
it's way too much plastic and painting for somebody new to modelling, super easy way to burn out painting 20 dudes at once when you can just buy a box of like 5 dudes and some 3D printed bits online to make them look unique

Not that anon, but are all races supported in kill team? Are there point limits to what models you bring?
Do you have a link to where I can read more about it?

All factions are in KT outside stuff like Knights.
KT uses its own point system but basically it's infantry only with a few exceptions. Most teams for it range between 3 and 12 models with more focus on the individual units gear too.
There's a general on /tg/ which can check out which has all the books available.

Everything is supported in killteam, it's just adapting the rules to be about super small special teams in smaller skirmishes instead of armies.
I like it because once you're into customizing your models there's a bit more freedom as they're a special team instead of just an army, you can make them stand out.
It's also a cheaper starter kit, it's 100$ for two people instead of like, both people having to buy 100$ army boxes and codices and etc
I'll go check it out, thanks

You used to be able to build a team for even cheaper.

You can buy what are basically premade KTs for it which are like a started deck in MtG except actually good. One of the other things to know is that KT is very terrain dependent but that's something you can easily improvise with whatever.
It uses d6 only, which is a ridiculous idea that GW has stuck to for decades to try keep the game easily understandable, even though it's bloated as hell.
So yes, you need tons of d6 dice.
Also lots of paints and tools and the models are more expensive than even Gundam models.
alchemy aside, they are just catering to different parts of the player base. if you just ignore everything except for new 'standard' sets (esp since commander is for gays anyway) its really not that bad.
That's the main thing, Magic not only has different formats, they have different audiences.
For Standard Players their release schedule has been the same. If they don't play Commander, CLB and 2X22 does NOTHING to them to interfere with their schedule.
If you're a commander player, CLB introduced just a bunch of archetypes. If you don't like them, no need to get the set.
2X22 is a Premium PRoduct with a focus on Limited and reprints
Is there a need to get every single item? No. No Meta is moving forward, and there is no "Must-get" card.
Lol at people b***hing at Secret Lairs like they have to get them all.
If you play Standard, Any Type 2 AND Commander and your wallet is suffering, that's just on you mate.
Disingenuous as frick - Standard is now a dumping ground of Commander cards that never get properly tested for 1v1. This makes drafting horrible and leads to radical fluctuations in power level between cards in the same set.
Just look at SNC. Horrible set from top to bottom for all formats due to Commander pandering (ironically it is shit for Commander, too so it fails on all fronts).
Plus, how in the frick do you manage to make art deco look bland and boring?
MTG has been keeping WotC alive for the past few years. Secret Lair and their non-stop products are why MTG only gained MORE money during covid closures.
It's funny that WotC also owns one of the most universally recognizable franchises in D&D but cannot for the life of them figure out a way to monetize it effectively. They're more popular now than ever, but they bring in like $1.2million a year when content creators like Critical Role can run a Kickstarter and make $7million in a week.
If MtG ever stops being a cash cow, they're going to be in deep shit.
They run D&D with a tiny skeleton crew and barely put out any products. It'd be so easy, the community is full of diehards who would buy anything they put out and thank them for it, and they still only print a few books a year. It's the most braindead shit in the world, just make shit for them to actually buy.
The pre-painted Nolzur miniatures that look like absolute shit are actually selling like hotcakes, they're the second most popular brand of minis after 40k
Kamigaws was the last set for me too. It was really interesting and flavorful but the cards were so bad mechanically. Especially with Mirrodin having a stranglehold on the meta.
I know it got better with Ravnica but I was already out.
There is no story he is full of shit. A lot of older players are quitting / have quit because new sets suck and WotC reprint policy is so bad that playing good formats is becoming prohbitively expensive even for veterans but there isn't any significant amount of player bans due to "pozzed trash" especially since the vast majority of players never play higher than their LGS.

Kamigawa was a definite low point but missing out on Ravnica, Timespiral, and Lorwyn sucks I feel bad for you those were some great formats.
That is wishful thinking. Arena brought many new players in, and surprisingly enough some magic players do have children and they are being inducted into the cult as well.
Anecdotally: Almost every single tcg shop in my area has shutdown in recent years. Even when I was playing MTGA I'd see very little engagement on youtube videos, most channels would struggle to get a couple thousand subs.
I think mtg is a house of cards propped up by investors and whales at this point. I think the casual market is dying or dead. I mean the game has been absolutely fricking shitting itself in for years now, it's not hard to see why people would leave.
I was in my local store about a year ago to play some 40K and was talking to owner how I was thinking about getting back into modern and he outright told me I shouldn't.
Yeah says a lot when he doesn't want me to pay money which would support him.

>it's funny because they are actually trying to provide cheaper ways to get into it but they don't pick up
No they're fricking not. The only way to do that is reprint the shit out of staples at decent rarities in "draft packs". But they'll never want to do that because they need those taples expensive so they can shove them into $20 packs at mythics to get morons to buy them. Because God knows they can't make new cards people actually want.

>they are actually trying to provide cheaper ways to get into it but they don't pick up
No they aren't. A simple solution, something is just reprinting staples until they've all came down in price over time but they refuse to do so because they NEED the secondary market to be ludicrous to upkeep their investor class that buys most of the supply they shill out
I genuinely don't get the people that stuck around after the 1-2 punch of oko and lurrus
there's always strong cards but those should have made it clear something is fundamentally wrong internally. it's like coughing up blood and saying "nah I'm good, let's play another round."
It was always my opinion that standard as a format should never require bannings as it is fully self contained. They then managed to have more bans in a year than the entire history of MtG.
Shit it started even before that. Remember how many WOTS cards became staples in legacy? I remember when every set would maybe have 1 card that would impact legacy or modern, but it was like every set was making waves in those formats. Fricking crazy.
>rules wise

I quit during Kaldheim. The combination of broken cards, shit card quality, refusing to reprint $50+ staples, and shit artwork had me on the edge. The fact that they decide to shove an ugly troony in my face on top of all that shit was the final straw. I'm not paying $50 for a single piece of severely warped ugly troony cardboard. Frick it all.

Been a while since I played so I don't recall which of these impacted legacy/modern, but here's a few of the really broken cards. >teferi time raveler >karn the great creator >ashiok dream render >narset parter of veils
I remember Narset specifically was a big deal in legacy/vintage and she's a fricking uncommon.
Also since you quit before WOTS you should check out "Lurrus of the Dream Den". He had to be banned in vintage, the format where black lotus is legal.
There's a whole bunch of other's too, the game's power level is out of control.

nah there is no way this game has another decade in it game longevity has been chopped up and fed to the fire of profits. Nobody plays 60c constructed because wotc made it too expensive and unfun and now wotc is desperatetly ruining the fricking fanmade format
It will take a literal apocalypse to kill Magic, people are to heavily invested both emotionally and financially to let it die. Could it become less popular? Possibly. Is it going to die? Definately not.
no they fricking arent going anywhere
whale sales are going up, no new players, no new event, LGSs closing left and right
the game is fricking dying and it will soon become the wretched garbage that pokemon is today, a speculative collection shitshow.
a billion dollar speculative market does fricking nothing for the game itself, it will keep the franchise alive for sure, but the game? lmao
Not to detract from your statement but Pokemon is something like the third highest grossing global franchise. All it has in common with WotC is a card game.
yeah, just as i said, an absolute goldmine but no one is playing it, literally.
my bad i didn't specify, i was talking about the pokemon TCG, not the entire franchise
You're just objectively wrong. Paper Mtg is dying, just because whales blindly buy up all the fomo shit wotc puts out doesn't mean that their player-base isn't shrinking. I still like Mtg as a system, but it's undeniably paper-bound and doesn't feel good to play online, even to me - someone who has been playing the game for almost 15 years now. Do you seriously believe that Mtg Arena can ever hope to attract the zoomer demographic and on top of that: these 16 year olds will like the game so much that they'll actually start spending money on paper magic? Fricking hell.
The pic you posted is very relevant: you're a delusional dinosaur, anon.

I thought people were really overblowing the influence of investors like Blackrock because they have less videogame investments than people think (Actiblizz and EA mostly, which we shouldn't be suprised are woke garbage) , but that's just sad.
Blackrock give hard amount of cash to corporations for them to be as woke as possible. Even when a company "Go woke" they won't go broke, since they still get money at the end. All nerdy hobbies are pozzed by that bullshit.

Do people even collect mtg cards anymore or is it just played by sweatlords? I looked through the more recent sets and the card art looks beyond awful, it evokes the feeling of some cheap YA novel book cover art.

lol
you have a far too narrow definition of interaction. interaction is anything that disrupts an opponent's gameplan. you're asking for too many things at once. there's lots of ways to deal with instants, but they can't do all of that at once. >destroys instant before it goes off, spends mana
counterspells >destroys instant, sorcery speed
hand hate/discard >sorcery speed, spends mana
taxes or hate effects
various creatures also have lots of abilities that can do any of the above, or punish an opponent for targeting them with instants, like ward. you complaining that you have to use instants to deal with other instants is as moronic as complaining that you have to play creatures in order to block an opponent's creatures in combat. no shit. that's literally the entire point of the card type.

Magic Arena sometimes gets new players and then in theory those players might pick up a pack.
There's a reason they keep introducing "New ways to start" like arena compatible starter decks, Jumpstart, """""""simplifying"""""""" boosters
They see the writing on the wall that they have a fanbase of 20-30 somethings who are huge whales but not capturing kids interest
I would say that the at most new players start at their 20s the earliest. When I used to play at my lgs every mtg player was a 30-40yr old white guy working a middle class job and had a shit homelife with a fat wife with a couple 20s something white guys out of college sprinkled in
A couple years back they changed how booster packs work, now you can buy "themed boosters" in your color (this is actually really good), "Collector boosters" which are more expensive but have more art cards and foils and etc, "Set Boosters" for a particular set, and "Jumpstart Boosters" which you can slap two together and have a playable deck
Of course, the old boosters are still around as "Draft Boosters".
>"Jumpstart Boosters" which you can slap two together and have a playable deck
How can that possibly work? Is only a small % of the cards randomized or something?
They're technically their own format based off core sets with some extra cards, and only legal in eternal formats
You grab two boosters of 20 cards, the boosters have randomized "Themes" and smash them together, (e.g. Goblins and Garruk makes a Goblin Garruk deck, mixing Unicorn and Unicorn makes a mono-unicorn deck) they basically ripped off KeyForge and sold it as a new product.
It's a very casual format.
It's a special set of cards. The packs have predetermined sets of ~20 cards each, but you don't know which you have until you open it. So it's like taking 2 random prebuilt decks and mashing them together.
Of course in typical wotc fashion they fricked the whole thing up by including expensive reprints and new cards that became modern/commander staples while also accidently under printing the set. So the reprints didn't actually lower the value and the new cards I shit you not went for over $100 in some cases.
That'll be 500 bucks goy
If you don't just proxy cards over $5 you're a cuck and should have a nice day. Better art, better card stock, don't have to support wotc, all for a small fraction of the cost.

They short printed because it was experimental product and they weren't sure if it would sell. When shit flies off the shelves you don't want to underprint, that's just losing money.
I've reached a point where I can only play pet decks in Arena for enjoyment. Otherwise, my options are: >mindlessly aggro deck that plays itself
or >be a huge wienersucker and play draw-go
>MTG is shit >Pokemon is just MTG-lite for kids >YGO is literally dead >Digital TCGs like Hearthstone are memes
What's there even to play at this point?
A different, 1v1 game where there's more skill-involved than luck, perhaps?
Secret Lairs are fine. "Investors" gobble them up making them target normal set singles less, so it is easier for me to actually buy regular cards to play with.
Except when the secret lair cards are exclusive and legal in formats you play.
They apologized for the Walking Dead fiasco and then fricking did it again.
Warhammer 40k shit is just going to be even more pushed. Check the price of what they are asking for that shit.
>MTG is shit >Pokemon is just MTG-lite for kids >YGO is literally dead >Digital TCGs like Hearthstone are memes
What's there even to play at this point?
>YGO is literally dead
takahashi hadn't done shit regarding YGO outside of the occasional art in well over a decade, I know it's sad to see he died but I've seen people acting like this is actually going to affect the TCG and it just baffles me how clueless they are. it's like saying if richard garfield dies he takes MTG with him.
also play digimon it's pretty good
Man I refuse to touch paper MtG anymore. All the stuff recently has been ridiculous and the only thing I'll do is play MtG Arena from time to time but holy shit that shuffler is fricking rigged.
Yugioh has been alright to get into with the digital client. The game has some ridiculous rules though. Chain links are inferior to the stack. When/if rules are weird. There are way too many obscure rulings like how spinning to the deck doesn't count as removing from the battlefield. Also the ridiculous censoring for the English cards for names and art. If I ever plan to buy paper I'll probably also just buy the Japanese ones since they're uncensored. I'm way too far from people to play this in person.
YGO is dead because the one chance of revolutionizing the game and be able to get telemetry data in real-time, Master Duels, is a neglected piece of shit with the worst banlist out of every single format. If they're treating the potential future YGO like this the TCG has no chance of not continuing down the shitty path its in.
>considered getting into fire emblem cipher because I like the series and it's basically a pipeline for IS to officially commission high quality art of characters who often otherwise wouldn't get it >it gets canned so they can focus entirely on the garbage gacha mobile game with extremely inconsistent and usually bland at best art
Only really relevant in Japan these days. Ironically, I think the story got better, but the cards are just ridiculous these days. You can have games decided in Unlimited by turn 3.
I'm not getting into ANY other Bamco game after I realized how shitty their card distribution is.
I still can't understand how or why they decided to put Vital cards and combo pieces inside Tournament Packs. No way to build entire archetypes out of just boosters and singles.
>quit playing Magic regularly years ago >now only buy stuff on secondhand market to make meme tribal decks like my mono green Ayula bears deck and UW Birds >have about three commander decks I mess around with casually too >actually having fun playing with my friends and their jank decks
I feel bad for anyone who still tries to play competitive MtG. Wizards doesn’t give a frick. It’s just a whale milking scheme now
>aggressively costed 1 drop that draws you a card and makes a lotus petal
What the frick were they thinking with this? And yes its to sell packs, but this is so stupid.
>new set comes out >after a week some streamer plays an autowin deck >see nothing but said deck for weeks until someone else discovers another broken deck
and the funniest thing is you see the same 3-4 decks in both standard and ladder, bronze to mythic
>and yugiohs wall of text
Eh it's not that bad tbh. Most of the text is just there to meet conditions and properly specify what cards do. As time goes on you learn to automatically filter the unnecessary text and start focusing on what matters >conditions/costs >effects >restrictions
And then you have the pointless stuff like the "you can only use once per turn" etc.
Like take bloom for example, after you read her once, you automatically make a note in your head reading >discard 2, summon 1 tri type from banished >if she goes to grave, add 1 tri brigade spell/trap to hand and put one card back >can only special summon TBs if you use the previous effect
And boom. You don't have to read her again. please ignore when if autism and other wording related rulings, those don't count 😉
Konami needs to get their shit together and make the cards more like the Japanese ones where they have 1, 2 and 3, in front of each effect instead of being cheap.
Not him, but mate that's still a lot of conditions to remember. The issue with yugioh cards if they have 3 or 4 abilities that trigger in specific scenarios and has specific clarifications.
>if she goes to grave, add 1 tri brigade spell/trap to hand and put one card back
This one effect is as complex as most cards are in other tcgs.
I guess it depends on the card. Recent cards come out with 3 or 4 effects as you said but not all of them are like that, this one for example has 2 effects and the once per turn clause.
And like I said, you just make a small summary of what X or Y card does after reading them once.
I tap 5 mana to summon Negan, the Cold-Blooded (From AMC's hit TV show The Walking Dead™) which actives my Death Star's special ability which lets me summon one Stormtrooper token, I then activate my The One Ring Artifact and equip it to Spider-Man which makes it impossible for your creatures to block any of his attacks. I attack you directly for 10 damage.
I accept the idea of shaking your semen encrusted hand, which according to the official ruling counts.
I scoop because you are ruining the spirit of the game with rules lawyering.
This isn't the Yugioh i know. Enjoy your KEKED, SOULLESS yugioh where you don't even have to touch my semen hand.
What the frick, Konami? I'm literally being fricking cancelled by the SJW's.
I think the ladies habd is white. It's just poor lighting.

They didn't change any white characters to make them black. They decided on this specific setting, for this specific set, that the elves would be dark skinned jungle tribesmen. In other sets and settings they are still white, or weird deer people with non traditional features. Some sets goblins are monkeys, some sets they are weird turtle creatures, some sets they are just plain goblins. No, hundreds of years of human history have conditioned people to think certain things about people, thus making a terrible cycle of oppression. If you were born into a world that hated you for existing and where you were forced into certain roles by those around you, you might end up in a bad position as well. Because most whites, israelites, and asians in America haven't been as socially oppressed as black people. israeli people haven't been as oppressed as much in America as they had been in Europe, as Black people were literally slaves for the first hundred-ish years of America's existence and then shoved into poor housing with inadequate funding and bothered as pariahs by the white middle class.
Having less access to education and social funding led to moronic development. Now, people born after these ideas (like redlining) were put into place think that black people are "just like that" and not the victims of actual efforts to keep them down.
Sounds like moron cope to me.
Maybe they should have put in more effort.

There is no point, people are not educated about things like forced sterilizations of black and indigenous populations throughout the past and do not understand how the deck was legitimately stacked against them for many decades
Many of the "omg white extinction" conspiracy theories are stuff that have already occurred to these populations, it's actually pretty nuts

Being poor predisposes you to having low social standing, but it certainly doesn't predispose you to having low intellect. IQ tests are deliberately designed to be agnostic towards language and culture, even though that's a silly argument to make, unless of course you believe that a US black is so culturally and cognitively distant from a US white that they can't even comprehend what's being asked of them, ie reason about the relationship between abstract shapes on a piece of paper.

if you know nothing about math in the modern day you ARE a moron
>using IQ
IQ is outdated and ineffective, and has been used specifically to oppress people. It was created by a bunch of stuffy academics based on what they thought SHOULD be the measure of intelligence without taking into account different cultures, languages, or types of intelligence.
Someone could know nothing about math but be a brilliant artist, and IQ could label them a moron.
>can you acknowledge that your mindset is contributing to the oppression and exploitation
I wish I could raise the IQ of every single black person in the world by 1 standard deviation, because that is about he only conceivable way they will ever stop being exploited while coexisting with most other ethnicities in the world.
Strongest correlations for IQ are poverty and early start to education not race. Of course blacks lump in squarely with that since 80% of them live in slums because they've been systematically stuck in poverty due to redlining but your trailer trash white kids also have lower IQ than normal.

Even though I would agree that smaller, more tightly-knit communities are preferable to me, personally: it's undeniable that countries require a comparatively unimaginable organizational prowess to run effectively. Some Goblins are monkeys but elves FROM ANOTHER PLANE can't be black
None of the shit you said has anything to do with it, you just see black people and get mad for some reason.
>reprint card >still $30 because they had to put it in a set where the packs are $15
Frick wotc. Also that artwork is ugly as shit. All the artwork is so fricking ugly now.
Since magic is focusing on being inclusive now, that means there's a better chance I get to play with a cute girl at my local game store, right? Sign me up!
Because they can just give it broken cards (Skyclave Apparition) or mindless archetypes (angels) instead of fixing it because that would require them to admit that the color pie is fricked and the other 4 colors can do what white can but better.

Something something somethint, art imitates life
I don't think there's another company like WotC that is so toxic to its own IP in every single capacity possible. Not even Warhammer's IP owner's do the moronic shit WotC does, though they have their own flavor of bad
The weird part of this one, lorewise, is that it's male- not black. I dunno if its still true but for a long time the internal style guide for MTG said angels were an all-female race.
Every store I've been to is overloaded with MTG products rotting on the shelves while Yugioh and Pokemon are always sold out. Nobody wants to buy new MTG cards because it's all unplayable garbage after it rotates standard. Going "woke" is gonna kill any chance of a new generation of players joining the game. What game would you rather play? one with cool monsters and dragons or fat Black folk?
>Standard
Unironically the least played format on paper since most standard players can play standard on Arena instead. Paper players would rather play Modern, Pioneer, and Commander instead
Zoomers aren't put off by "woke" shit, they are the target demographic. MTG is gonna die because rotating standard format and eternal format staples being priced how they are mean no one will want to pay the ticket price to play.
homosexuals complaining that there are too many black characters in a thread about a Fortnite Secret Lair based on a card game that features a Fantasy Multiverse where races and tribes get mixed and swapped all the time.
Next one looks promising. But as all Unsets, they're not very good outside Drafting. Sealed can be fun, but challenging and with some feel bad moments.
Every person in this thread talking about paper dying is a terminally online culture warrior homosexual.
I live in a podunk town and even then the LGSs nearby have consistent large group of regulars who come to play three times a week, along with new groups of high school aged kids getting into the game for the first time.
Do I think WotC isn't a moronic company? No. But you're either a fricking fool or a liar if you think some bad art or generic corporate LGBT pandering is gonna stop people playing this game.
No they closed down because the store because people weren't buying shit and the store was ghost town, you fricking idiot. One of them opened and closed this year you simple minded c**t.
I live in a city of 182k and there's like 3 LGS' and 2-3 more comic places that sell marked up TCG cards. Every single one I've been to have like 6-8 people there during peak time and dead during the downtime. I think they somehow survive based on their weekend events because there's no fricking way that shit's self-sustaining. These TCG's are also "new" to my city, as in they propped up within the past decade and the old LGS' that I used to go to during high school are all gone
The store being empty when there's not an event makes complete sense. And having 6 daily regulars sounds great. Events are made exactly for this, to gather large groups of players at once.
It's like saying a restaurant is failing because its empty at 8AM
Anon, the LGS that have shut down in my city used to have so many people inside the story they had to rent tables so people would play outside - we'd have over 20 people during peak times with 0 event. 8 people would've been what you'd expect right around 4 PM on a weekday with 12-14 being the average around 5-6.
I have no idea how these new LGS' are surviving but it's definitely not thriving. I need to go there to buy a trainer box for a friend's son's birthday party and if there's a similar thread I'll show you what exactly I'm talking about.
It was that one, just the version 2.6 instead of 5.0. It works now.
I tried to get into MTG like 8 years ago. Can anyone explain why lands are always so fricking expensive? Like it's the first and most important part of building your deck is lands and they where the most expensive part without fail. standard, modern, legacy it didn't matter the format. Out of all cards why wouldn't they mass print all the good lands so people can actually play the fricking game? Yugioh doesn't have a mana system and Pokemon energies aren't worth the cardboard they are printed on.
In Yu-Gi-Oh! instead of Lands your main resource are the cards in your hand. Switch "Cards that Draw" with "Dual Lands" and you have the same scenario.
Konami prints once a year a "Pot of Whatever" that costs like 100$, and by the time they reprint it, they're already releasing the next one and banning/limiting the old one.
Do I agree witrh this? Frick no. Make Fetches and Shocklands more available.
Lands are the most important cards are common amongst every deck of the same color. Every red/blue deck NEEDS the best red/blue lands available. They don't all run the same creatures/spells. Also wotc is shit about reprinting lands.
Yeah. It's so fricking moronic that these TCG's just refuse to have a good online client and to iterate on it. It's literally a perfect chance to test new mechanics, cards, and formats for fricking free. So much easier to balance when you release on the online game first then after some fine-tuning you release in physical.
Instead you get the monster that is Arena or the neglected Master Duel. Pokemon had a good, albeit outdated client and the new one seems worse last I checked
And the thing is that Master Duel, for as bad as it is, at least still draws some players in and keeps them playing. Hell, if Duel Links succeded at it for so long with its insufferable gacha, then MD can.
Point being, it's still better to have a bad client than no client at all. Worst part is someone actually made an EDOPro-esque game for DCG and Bandai shut it down, just so they wouldn't release their own client.
Does anyone actually like Alchemy? Fake Pioneer aka Explorer for the next few years to me felt like WotC finally figuring out we don't want hearthstone cards in our MTG but now they doubled down on it with the whole Baldur's Gate thing.
What do you WANT from me WOTC
No. No one likes it. Even someone who likes the idea behind the format takes issue with how it is designed to wring wild cards away from you at the most efficient rate and they aren't even trying to hide that fact.
New standard set for arena when?
'ate alchemy
What the frick are those? No way these aren't custom cards, right?

WotC has been soulless for a LONG time, man.
It's weird how long it's taking people to understand how dead the company is (obviously I don't mean financially - it's still printing money).

Stranger Things Secret Lair. They've recently reprinted these as "actual" MTG cards. See
I would have called these fake if I hadn't seen the gay cards they made.
This literally gives me zero surprise.
Glad I left that hobby years ago.
what is this thread really about? am i supposed to get mad they put fortnite in mtg or something?
Mad at MtG's decision making in general
>Trample and Infect
>For 4
Who thought this was a good idea?
The people who came up with Infect
Infect was fine when all creatures with it were 1/1's for 3 mana. Once they started making 4/4 flyers with infect is when it became cancer
Baldur's Gate set booster box prices crashed hard. Went from the usual price to 90$. There are talks that it might get to 60$
WotC will do fine no matter what because "investor" whales will scoop up every box they print.
Can't wait for GW to frick over OPR.
If they made the free core rules less fricking trash they would actually destroy OPR, the idea that a free ruleset for the game picked up popularity when you MADE YOUR CORE RULES FREE says a lot about how bad they are
Just play tabletop sim anyways, they're starting to include actually painted and photoscanned 40k models and it looks insanely good
Been meaning to give the TTS 40K stuff ago.
Do you have any links for it?
They keep it in a ~~*discord*~~ and not on steam workshop so they don't get insta deleted and you can ask people to play games.
They're also slowly beginning work on copyright friendly proxy models called "warforge".
https://discord.gg/tMpWNrNg
>"warforge"
I'll go check it out, thanks
Everything is supported in killteam, it's just adapting the rules to be about super small special teams in smaller skirmishes instead of armies.
I like it because once you're into customizing your models there's a bit more freedom as they're a special team instead of just an army, you can make them stand out.
It's also a cheaper starter kit, it's 100$ for two people instead of like, both people having to buy 100$ army boxes and codices and etc
You used to be able to build a team for even cheaper.
The Deathwatch box was like $20 and was a fully playable team. Same with the First Strike box,
You can buy what are basically premade KTs for it which are like a started deck in MtG except actually good.
Brand sells product. Always has.
I like the lands. I haven't bought paper since the original Kamigawa, though.
Kamigaws was the last set for me too. It was really interesting and flavorful but the cards were so bad mechanically. Especially with Mirrodin having a stranglehold on the meta.
I know it got better with Ravnica but I was already out.
who even plays this pozzed trash anyway? Wizards banned any players who actually cared about the game.
What? Storytime?
There is no story he is full of shit. A lot of older players are quitting / have quit because new sets suck and WotC reprint policy is so bad that playing good formats is becoming prohbitively expensive even for veterans but there isn't any significant amount of player bans due to "pozzed trash" especially since the vast majority of players never play higher than their LGS.
Kamigawa was a definite low point but missing out on Ravnica, Timespiral, and Lorwyn sucks I feel bad for you those were some great formats.
How do they even get new players?
They don't. Game is dying and they're trying to milk every last drop before it goes.
Smart man
Yeah says a lot when he doesn't want me to pay money which would support him.
Damn rereading this, I should probably sleep soon.
I have seen this a LOT from people. If you ask many players how to get into the game, they will say "Do Not" or "Play Casually"
>If you ask many players how to get into the game, they will say "Do Not" or "Play Casually"
>they continue to play the game anyway
Consoomers should be given the chair.
I would tell anyone who's interested the same thing, this game is prohibitively expensive to get into and WotC has zero interest in making that better
it's funny because they are actually trying to provide cheaper ways to get into it but they don't pick up
jumpstart decks were popular but i don't see jumpstart nights at LGS
prepackaged commander decks like the new 40k ones are fun to buy a couple and play together
they had those new starter decks that were actually balanced for local standard FnM nights
All good beginner experiences but anyone who wants to get a little deeper quickly comes to the realization they have to shell out thousands to compete in basically any format
>it's funny because they are actually trying to provide cheaper ways to get into it but they don't pick up
No they're fricking not.
Muh EDH, if I close my eyes and plug my ears and play almost an entirely different game nothing is wrong
Shit it started even before that. Remember how many WOTS cards became staples in legacy? I remember when every set would maybe have 1 card that would impact legacy or modern, but it was like every set was making waves in those formats. Fricking crazy.
>I quit during BFZ standard because it sucked and I was between modern decks. Since then every single person I know who plays has quit except one, and he only plays legacy tournaments because he already has the collection to support that, but he hasnt bought off the shelf cards since 2016.
Frick it all.
moron, I was responding to a post about getting new players. Game is still profitable because whales and investors, but they're not drawing new people in while simultaneously pissing people off. That means the game is going to die.
War of the spark was a fricking mistake
The shit art is so annoying. Why do they purposefully create ugly abominations.
>Remember how many WOTS cards became staples in legacy?
I just dropped the game before wots what all became legacy staples?
Been a while since I played so I don't recall which of these impacted legacy/modern, but here's a few of the really broken cards.
>teferi time raveler
>karn the great creator
>ashiok dream render
>narset parter of veils
I remember Narset specifically was a big deal in legacy/vintage and she's a fricking uncommon.
Also since you quit before WOTS you should check out "Lurrus of the Dream Den". He had to be banned in vintage, the format where black lotus is legal.
There's a whole bunch of other's too, the game's power level is out of control.
You're a moronic Black person who can't follow a basic post chain. Eat shit and die.
>You're a moronic Black person who can't follow a basic post chain. Eat shit and die.
>He had to be banned in vintage, the format where black lotus is legal.
He's unbanned now and it's fine after the 3 mana tax. Lurrus decks in Vintage today are mostly Hatebears or Standstill which are both completely fine powerl level-wise.
>Shit it started even before that. Remember how many WOTS cards became staples in legacy? I remember when every set would maybe have 1 card that would impact legacy or modern, but it was like every set was making waves in those formats. Fricking crazy.
Once upon a time design and playtest was full of people who regularly placed in pro-tour and they hired new ones regularly to keep up with the state of the game as it advanced, so any shit that broken got caught. Guess what they don't do anymore.
wotc learned bans dont effect sales or player feedback so they started mass dropping their playtest team
>Game is still profitable because whales and investors, but they're not drawing new people in while simultaneously pissing people off. That means the game is going to die.
>they did things I don't like so they are going to fail!!!!! just because okay!!!
You sound suspiciously underage
>game is dying
rofl, this has literally been said every single year since since 6th Ed. It may seem like that to you because you dissagree with some of their moronic decisions, but they are Hasbro's Golden Pig and the numbers show it's only going up. You are talking from waaaay deep up inside your ass if you think the game is going anywhere but up.
nah there is no way this game has another decade in it game longevity has been chopped up and fed to the fire of profits.
Well there's Commander, but its really a wholly different game than what MtG is supposed to be. Might as well rebrand MtG to just Commander
Commander is shitting the bed too. The same power creep that fricked the rest of the formats is fricking commander. Especially since their printing cards designed for commander in standard formats.
Everything wotc touches turns to shit.
>Friends try introduce me to the game with multiplayer Commander
>There's so many fricking players, cards, triggers and rules to keep track of my mind blanks
>This is on top of trying to suss out table politics
I don't get people who say Commander is a casual format. Maybe if you're already into the game it's casual.
Its fun if everyone is gimped to your level. This is why traditional MtG players hate the format. Theres a novelty in creating a gorillion tokens and playing overrun and winning; its fun for the newbies, its big and game ending.
Meta deckers fricking ruin everything. Commander used to be pretty casual, but then people started min maxing it and solved the problem.
Competitive commander is vintage tier broken, I'm talking turn 2 wins. Commander is best played kitchen table with a couple friends and the agreement not to play any gay turbo combos or OP cards.
If you were playing a casual game then people should have taken it slow and played at your pace.
I have a feeling you were playing with WAACgays. (win at all cost)
Oh boy, money! I'm glad they are making money while exploiting and insulting us, driving the game into the fricking ground aww yeee.
you know that baldurs gate and crimson vow have been abject failures, right?
Oh sure, the numbers keep going up, it just means the people that treat magic as an investments are the ones that pay, not that more people are playing. That's what anon means. So go for it, enjoy your collectors market speculation "game".
This seems like desperation to me. Just pumping out as much shit as possible.
>Blackrock owns 10% of hasbro's shares
I thought people were really overblowing the influence of investors like Blackrock because they have less videogame investments than people think (Actiblizz and EA mostly, which we shouldn't be suprised are woke garbage) , but that's just sad.
Blackrock give hard amount of cash to corporations for them to be as woke as possible. Even when a company "Go woke" they won't go broke, since they still get money at the end. All nerdy hobbies are pozzed by that bullshit.
https://nypost.com/2021/06/05/blackrocks-no-1-goal-in-woke-investing-huge-esg-funds-haul/
Sad thing is they'll never have to stop either since they have a direct line to the federal reserve bank and can just print more money.
i have 3 stores around me that look exactly like this, while pokemon and yugioh have empty shelves with people buying product
For some reason pokemon and yugioh's unboxing and resale market fricking exploded
MTG didn't catch that as much even after redesigning the boosters to literally be unboxing friendly
I remember a year or so ago scalpers were buying up literally any trading cards they could find (not even just pokemon/yugioh I saw dudes buying up booster boxes for completely irrelevant TCGs or sports like they'd find a mint honus wagner or some shit) and even then shelves were still overflowing with magic product
Do people even collect mtg cards anymore or is it just played by sweatlords? I looked through the more recent sets and the card art looks beyond awful, it evokes the feeling of some cheap YA novel book cover art.
With shit like the new faithless looting I dont. That art is offensive
It's fricking nuts because the artist does stuff that isn't bad, nobody had issues with Harmonize even if the art style is hit or miss, Faithless looting is just horrific
>distant pleasant kenobi in the distance screeching "but guys, it's SUPPOSED to look bad!"
I've had a friend make the exact same arguement.
also
>Oil paints take more effort therefor its more impressive than accrylic paints.
No you c**t it fricking isn't
Is there any worse mtg related e-celeb? This guy constantly sucks wotc's lesion riddled wiener and makes up the most absurd excuses for everything they do, then acts like he's some sort of hardline badass who always calls wotc out and is at risk of getting blacklisted by them.
He's also terrible to people who reply to him on Twitter. I hate the guy.
Eceleb seems like a strong word. He's just a clickbait artist that leeched off of Prof to reach relevancy.
But I do remember one of his videos being hilarious in that he starts off by complaining about how there's too much distance between bonfires and bosses in Dark Souls and Elden Ring and then follows up by saying EDH casuals are too coddled and need to accept some adversity.
Don't talk to me about that stuck up imbecile, please.
I refuse to believe that they printed that. Thanks israelites.
they know it looks shit too because in Arena they sold packs of Japanese art variants, but they pulled out Faithless Looting and placed it separately behind an event so people would pay to play that
Its like they did a decent looking figure and taped over with with fricking clip art or something, what the frick were they thinking? This is some "subverting your expectations" shit, isn't it?
She has a style that's supposed to look "Digital" despite being entirely physical artwork, like acrylics and oil paints
I don't think it's a bad idea for a hipster art style when it's at large size in art galleries, but when shrunk down and printed on digital cards, it looks like bad digital photoshop! who would have thought!
Neither of those are very good... I thought magic carried itself on the art looking like classic medieval fantasy art, not weird flat abstract art.
The new artists they get these days arent really good. You have outliers like Johaness Voss and Seb Mckinnon who do something different, but the latter just got cancelled by Twitter. Older artists like Richard Kane Ferguson and Rebecca Guay are expensive and are used sparingly.
>Seb cancelled on twitter
QRD?
Posted his support for the Canadian truckers. Twitter got on his ass.
Ah so a nothing burger
Pretty much, now that twatter got outraged, WotC began to distance themselves from Seb despite the fact that hes one of the very few current artists who isnt sticking to the same "safe" WotC approved style
Sad because i kinda liked most of his art.
True, I like a lot of his stuff
>Seb Mckinnon just got cancelled by Twitter
What did he do?
It's not amazing, but i think it's better. I can actually see what the "style" is trying to do in that one and the texture the trees and vines and whatever's coming from the hands is nice.
What i'm saying is that if Faithless Looting was as good as Harmonize it would have just been shrugged off as an artist with a flat style.
that's a weird special "guest artist" collector's set. those are like the only two that they have.
What the frick are they doing with MtG.
It might as well have space ships and lasers now.
Did you say that not knowing Unfinity is the next set?
Because if so, that's pretty funny
Un sets are always beyond the scope of discussion around direction of the game, themes and/or art.
You know this.
Just saying these lands look amazing to play with the 40k decks
>he thinks I follow MtG beyond the ragebait that's posted here now
No, I didn't know that at all.
My surprise levels are zero.
Is Forge the best MTG simulator?
I love these.
frick you, New Capenna was cool
>Enchanted creature looses all abilities and becomes a white Citizen named "Legitimate Businessperson"
Holy fricking shit if only they didn't have the green there i'm dying
yeah, all the citizens in new capenna are green/white for some reason.
No. It isn't.
It's gay. And so are you.
Enjoy your bearscape.
>implying I'd ever buy Secret Lair
maybe if you're a gay dude
Frick you I hate new cephalids so godamn much it's fricking incomprehensible and phyresis would be too gentle a fate for the godamn morons who okayed it
They don't wanna pay for Rebecca Guay and Kev Walker (and so on and so forth) anymore except for guest appearances in special products just so they can say "look <classic mtg artist> did the art!" It's all digital artists that graduated from some tech school in the last 10 years now, who have skills that are technically proficient but produce the most bland soulless shit possible because they aren't artists.
It is unironically difficult to buy singles to play with in many areas due to "investors" hoovering up stock and speculating on rares constantly.
>them 2 copies of albaz strike and 2 sigle packs of the grand creators
Do you think there's an undiscovered rite of aramesir and water enchantress in there?
is the baseball set any good?
Ill happily slurp those commander precons if they lowered the price to 15 bucks each.
I started playing magic because of how horrible Pokemon has gotten.
How bad can a game be that the current state of Magic looks good?
Magic is a good game, rules wise, and its very easy to teach. It's probably the most newby friendly game on the market that anyone actually plays.
>Magic is a good game
Was. Game is fricking garbage now. They even ruined commander.
>rules wise
I know they only print shit cards now, but the core of the game is good.
I quit during BFZ standard because it sucked and I was between modern decks. Since then every single person I know who plays has quit except one, and he only plays legacy tournaments because he already has the collection to support that, but he hasnt bought off the shelf cards since 2016.
>They even ruined commander.
qrd?
>Magic is a good game, rules wise, and its very easy to teach.
it has the worst creature combat of any tcg ever i.e. there is none
instant are also horrible because they're almost impossible to interact with by design
Instants are interaction by their very nature, what do you mean?
he means he's a moron who prefers yugioh but cannot express his preferences without saying the things he dislikes are bad.
He means shit like bolting his bird turn 2, a lot of decks just take that on the chin without interaction.
instants interact WITH things, but instants cannot be interacted WITH
holy shit mtg players are illiterate
>mtgroid calling anyone else a moron
your game is fundamentally shit btw
>instants cannot be interacted WITH
Are you moronic?
oh wait except with other instants lmao
moron
do you not think that proves my point or something
Also with abilities, creatures with flash and global tax effects. Yes anon, tell me how you dont know what you're talking about.
>Also with abilities,
either nonexistent or instants by another name
>creatures with flash
so instants attached to creatures?
>global tax effects
that's not interaction lmao, frick off shopstard
>Let me play my gamewinning effect!
>NNOOO YOU CANT JUST ANSWER IT DURING MY TURN THATS CHEATING!!!
Lmao,
two wrongs do not make a right shopstard
Define what interaction is so I can laugh at you. Not like theres an absence of this shit in YGO, spell speed 2 is a thing
the ability to destroy the instant at sorcery speed before it goes off and when mana has already been spent on it
DESTROY, not keep stuck in opponent's hand you fricking shopstard
and that doesn't even keep them stuck, you can just use them as sorceries because that's a good idea apparently
Alright. You want to keep this going?
>10 counterspells on a stick
lol
enjoy your shit game then
>I have no argiment so I'll move goalposts
Ok
it's literally 10 instants on a stick that can stop players from interacting with it by itself
Its a card that isnt an instant and destroys your opponents instant the moment they play them. Its a card well within your criteria of interaction.
yeah it's not an instant, it's 10 of them
Again, good job moving the goalposts.
mtgroids are delusional, who knew
You lost.
you lost because you're an autist still playing this shit game where only instants interact with instants
I proved you wrong using a card that fits within your definition of what interaction is, you disengenious homosexual.
no you didn't, you literally posted a card that interacts with instants at instant speed because you're a dumbfrick mtgroid
Its an enchantment. Where is the instant in that textbox?
Dude you are arguing with a troll, cut your losses.
he's not arguing in good faith, you tried man
you have a far too narrow definition of interaction. interaction is anything that disrupts an opponent's gameplan. you're asking for too many things at once. there's lots of ways to deal with instants, but they can't do all of that at once.
>destroys instant before it goes off, spends mana
counterspells
>destroys instant, sorcery speed
hand hate/discard
>sorcery speed, spends mana
taxes or hate effects
various creatures also have lots of abilities that can do any of the above, or punish an opponent for targeting them with instants, like ward. you complaining that you have to use instants to deal with other instants is as moronic as complaining that you have to play creatures in order to block an opponent's creatures in combat. no shit. that's literally the entire point of the card type.
Instants can definitely be interacted with, what the frick are you smoking?
you're completely fricking braindead, don't reply to me
Magic Arena sometimes gets new players and then in theory those players might pick up a pack.
When I used to play at my lgs every mtg player was a 30-40yr old white guy working a middle class job and had a shit homelife with a fat wife with a couple 20s something white guys out of college sprinkled in
>"""""""simplifying"""""""" boosters
What?
A couple years back they changed how booster packs work, now you can buy "themed boosters" in your color (this is actually really good), "Collector boosters" which are more expensive but have more art cards and foils and etc, "Set Boosters" for a particular set, and "Jumpstart Boosters" which you can slap two together and have a playable deck
Of course, the old boosters are still around as "Draft Boosters".
See, simple!
Ah yes, much simpler
If you don't just proxy cards over $5 you're a cuck and should have a nice day. Better art, better card stock, don't have to support wotc, all for a small fraction of the cost.
>Better art, better card stock, don't have to support wotc, all for a small fraction of the cost.
How do you make your proxies?
Buy them from chinks with nice printers.
>accidently under printing the set.
You're supposed to put that between quotes.
I wasn't paying attention to mtg at the time, what actually happened?
They short printed because it was experimental product and they weren't sure if it would sell. When shit flies off the shelves you don't want to underprint, that's just losing money.
Frick JotC
>Google price tag for a box of double masters
Fricking hell. Maybe I should switch to a cheaper hobby like Faberge egg collecting.
>$650
The frick? Is that msrp or aftermarket price?
They stopped giving out MSRP 🙂
who the frick actually plays arena? Everyone I know rage quit that shit because of the economy and shuffler and moved to mtgo
I've reached a point where I can only play pet decks in Arena for enjoyment. Otherwise, my options are:
>mindlessly aggro deck that plays itself
or
>be a huge wienersucker and play draw-go
A different, 1v1 game where there's more skill-involved than luck, perhaps?
Secret Lairs are fine. "Investors" gobble them up making them target normal set singles less, so it is easier for me to actually buy regular cards to play with.
Except when the secret lair cards are exclusive and legal in formats you play.
They apologized for the Walking Dead fiasco and then fricking did it again.
Warhammer 40k shit is just going to be even more pushed. Check the price of what they are asking for that shit.
Did they ever errata Friends Forever to be Partner
why would they, the mechanic was made to be used between these cards, not some random partner card
no.
It's basically the modern day Horsemanship
>MTG is shit
>Pokemon is just MTG-lite for kids
>YGO is literally dead
>Digital TCGs like Hearthstone are memes
I'm way too far from people to play this in person.
>digimon
If they get an online version maybe
Digimon is addictive. Played a few rounds via webcam. The bad thing is, you find some of the absolute human garbage possible on discord sometimes
Fighting games, the ultimate 1v1 competition
Digimon is supposedly good, I'm waiting for Bamco to wake up and make a simulator and slap it on steam.
It's a good thing that Hearthstone didn't invent online card games and it's a good thing that Eternal exists.
wixoss
>New format has everyone be a singer for no fricking reason at all
>Layla is butchered and doesn't even command Riding Machines anymore
No thanks
i don't mind the idoru theme to be honest
but yes they really fricked up layla, i'll still use her though
piloting hanayo ni kai is probably the most fun i've had in a while but i dont want to reveal my dicky powerlevel to the regular neckbeards at my LGS
Digimon. Haven't had this fun with a TCG for more than a decade.
>NO DATA
Why is BT9 absolute kino?
>considered getting into fire emblem cipher because I like the series and it's basically a pipeline for IS to officially commission high quality art of characters who often otherwise wouldn't get it
>it gets canned so they can focus entirely on the garbage gacha mobile game with extremely inconsistent and usually bland at best art
Is shadowverse still a thing or is that also dead?
Only really relevant in Japan these days. Ironically, I think the story got better, but the cards are just ridiculous these days. You can have games decided in Unlimited by turn 3.
Yeah that doesn't sound fun at all.
Good thing i stopped before whatever that GBF set was called
digimon is fun, scream at bamco to make a digital version of it
I'm not getting into ANY other Bamco game after I realized how shitty their card distribution is.
I still can't understand how or why they decided to put Vital cards and combo pieces inside Tournament Packs. No way to build entire archetypes out of just boosters and singles.
You can try Digimon, I guess? At least it's not stupid expensive as YGO or MTG.
Artifact
>quit playing Magic regularly years ago
>now only buy stuff on secondhand market to make meme tribal decks like my mono green Ayula bears deck and UW Birds
>have about three commander decks I mess around with casually too
>actually having fun playing with my friends and their jank decks
I feel bad for anyone who still tries to play competitive MtG. Wizards doesn’t give a frick. It’s just a whale milking scheme now
>Monkey jpegs that actually hold their value
Truly a mistake
>aggressively costed 1 drop that draws you a card and makes a lotus petal
What the frick were they thinking with this? And yes its to sell packs, but this is so stupid.
>What the frick were they thinking with this?
Funni monkee go hee hoo
>What the frick were they thinking with this?
"how do we add rotations to non-rotating formats?"
>how do we force players of our biggest non-rotating format to buy new packs?
>new set comes out
>after a week some streamer plays an autowin deck
>see nothing but said deck for weeks until someone else discovers another broken deck
and the funniest thing is you see the same 3-4 decks in both standard and ladder, bronze to mythic
You forgot "also after a week it's preview season for the next set already."
I want to FRICK cuddle team leader
That'll be 500 bucks goy
> he paid 500 bucks for a 150$ card.
Shiggy diggy anon, someone fleeced you good.
You dont get it anon its ETCHED FOIL, warranting the $350 markup
>It's real
Frick me. I concede forever anon. Frick this gay earth.
Mythgard was just better MTG
Sadly it died before anyone even heard of it
Looks truly dreadful. Between this and yugiohs wall of text, tcgs are over
>and yugiohs wall of text
Eh it's not that bad tbh. Most of the text is just there to meet conditions and properly specify what cards do. As time goes on you learn to automatically filter the unnecessary text and start focusing on what matters
>conditions/costs
>effects
>restrictions
And then you have the pointless stuff like the "you can only use once per turn" etc.
Like take bloom for example, after you read her once, you automatically make a note in your head reading
>discard 2, summon 1 tri type from banished
>if she goes to grave, add 1 tri brigade spell/trap to hand and put one card back
>can only special summon TBs if you use the previous effect
And boom. You don't have to read her again. please ignore when if autism and other wording related rulings, those don't count 😉
Konami needs to get their shit together and make the cards more like the Japanese ones where they have 1, 2 and 3, in front of each effect instead of being cheap.
A lot of YGO's issues would be solved if they decided to add Keywords.
I can't believe it took like 20 years for them to consider "Piercing" a rule.
Your move, Ganker.
I flip skill drain
I play wrath of god
I pull My Dick out of the freezer and Cold wiener you with it.
why wouldn't you attack the opponent directly? That's how creatures work in MTG
I play Unity and Yu-Jo friendship.
I jerk offd with this hand in the LGS bathroom and did not wash.
You MUST shake my hand.
Do whatever you must, You may win the battle, but i have won the war.
*accepts the idea of the handshake*
looks like I win both
I scoop because you are ruining the spirit of the game with rules lawyering.
This isn't the Yugioh i know. Enjoy your KEKED, SOULLESS yugioh where you don't even have to touch my semen hand.
What the frick, Konami? I'm literally being fricking cancelled by the SJW's.
I accept the idea of shaking your semen encrusted hand, which according to the official ruling counts.
come home white man
Call me when 90% of the game isn't decided on the first turn
Sex with Talia
This is how you do preview cards. Soipogger face thumbnails, take note
>none of the hands are white
Sick of everything being black washed.
I think the ladies habd is white. It's just poor lighting.
You think WotC would pass up an opportunity to push the racemixing narrative? Especially on a card that translates to "get drunk and have mixed race baby"?
You should be happy to know that the new art for Allosaurus Sheperd is whitewashed into raptor jesus then
When did elves turn into africans?
do you not know the concept of MTG? It exists in a multiverse where the main characters hop around to different universes. There's also a million different kinds of goblins.
>There's also a million different kinds of goblins.
Are any of them hot
just put a goblin on the stack, don't play any interaction and it becomes a shortstack goblin
Yes. The elves that have always, in every plane been lanky, pale skinned pagans just HAPPEN to become black when WotC goes full woke.
Yes, anon. I'm sure that's purely coincidental.
Lorwyn Elves are literally black
What the frick are you talking about?
The flamekin are, but they're back, not brown.
>Lorwyn Elves
Literally black
Heh
that's like... mixed black at best.....
Well of course he's mixed. He's Green/Black
Real american hours
I don't see red white and blue
>Too stupid to understand how lighting affects color
Are you black?
The joke is that the card has "black" mana
>Went over my head
Damn, looks I was black this entire entire time. Carry on.
Its called a joke anon
I was playing into the joke with the mixed black/green comment :c
Are you moronic?
>company starts to realize that a lot of their fantasy series is white
>decides to make a race on a plane not white (a plane that is a jungle themed dinosaur land, btw)
what's wrong with that, exactly?
>make a race
you mean change a race.
why didn't they make literal Black folks? drum banging, mud hut dwelling, lip stretching africans?
Always gotta get that black representation on the coattails of a paler, more attractive precursor eh?
explain why it's so bad that they did this
>why is it bad that we just get tokenized white characters
>why does tradition even need to exist
>why is consistency important
>why do you care about raceswapping
It's fricking annoying.
It'd be like making black panther white or asian.
It's just legitimizing the idea that black characters can no longer be successful unless they're legitimized by white people first.
None of the shit you said has anything to do with it, you just see black people and get mad for some reason.
Black person there are fricking tons of Black folk in every set. They made half of the gods in the viking themed set black and ONE white male god. They literally killed of one of the two white men in the main 5 and replaced him with a black negress with an afro. If you think this isn't intentional black washing you're dumber than a Black person.
>playing MTG for the story
>moronic Black person is illiterate
I hate looking at ugly Black folk on my expensive cardboard. I want good looking characters.
then don't buy the cards you don't like...?
You need to go back to twitter.
>20,000+ game pieces to play with
>complain about a couple hundred
Don't forget that angels have been almost exclusively black for a while now. It's all very tiresome.
Why do they make the characters so fricking ugly now? Also its fricking hilarious how the new Kamigawa set had mostly asian looking characters but the viking set had barely any white people in it. The bias is so fricking obvious.
I'm surprised they didnt shove more Black folk in because they hate asians but I guess they're hoping for east asian sales.
Its the only recent set they didnt fully frick up
>how the new Kamigawa set had mostly asian looking characters
Oh don't worry anon, they slipped in their BBC fetish into that set too.
The annoying thing is that it's clearly just a Black person fetish. It's not even diversity, outside of Kamigawa there's no asians and basically no latinos either. They just want to insert as many Black folk as they can get away with.
HAHAHAHAHA.... wait you're serious? Why should I hate the dumbest, most violent criminal, highest welfare recipient, non tax paying, ugly race on the planet that get's worshipped to the point where they will get together and burn down cities if a Black person tries to kill a cop and he defends himself? Gee I don't fricking know, why would I hate a group like that?
You're a fricking moronic wigger and the when the Black folk kill you no one will cry. They don't give a shit if you let them rape your girlfriend, they'll kill you all the same you room temperature iq moron.
And where do you get your evidence, anon?
Reality
>Dude, trust me.
No, I can give you arguments, but I'm not going to wasted my time on some idiot on Ganker. It's obvious to anyone that's not a brainwashed Black personcattle (aka you) that races are different and black are fricking awful.
ever stop to figure that unmoving hate is a bad thing?
You are seriously a fricking moron. I thought you were trolling for a minute, but you're so fricking delusional. You sound like some moron whose understanding of the world is informed by hollywood.
You're just proving my point. You hate me for some stupid reason, which you probably justify, probably for made up reasons, like assuming I'm israeli as in
I mean, I guess one thing that's been said about me is true: I'm arguing with an anon on Ganker, and for that I am an idiot.
Lmfao you're so stupid you can't even tell that you're talking to different anons. I don't think your israeli I think you're just a really stupid white guy.
You pulled hate out of your ass. You see evil bad bad hatred in your opponents because your world view is so simplistic you can't see your opposition as anything other than raging angry evil people. You are simple minded.
>Lmfao you're so stupid you can't even tell that you're talking to different anons. I don't think your israeli I think you're just a really stupid white guy.
I wasn't saying YOU were calling me israeli, just that people arguing against me resulted to throwing shit around like that
Well, I mean, people are casually throwing around the "GAMER WORD" and being like "HUUUR ALL Black folk ARE UGLY AnD STUPID" what do you expect me to think about people in this thread?
>Well, I mean, people are casually throwing around the "GAMER WORD" and being like "HUUUR ALL Black folk ARE UGLY AnD STUPID" what do you expect me to think about people in this thread?
There's a million things you could extrapolate from that. You defaulted to "unmoving hatred" because you don't actually know anything about people you disagree with.
Someone has to have hate on the brain if that's their opening thought process.
"Hey look at this card"
"OH LOOK, A Black person!"
That's not my process, you don't understand me. You just want me to be bad evil man because that makes it easier for your dumb brain to process.
and you want me to be dumb pozzed basedboy cuck
You say that
But then you prove that you are
>You're just proving my point. You hate me for some stupid reason, which you probably justify, probably for made up reasons, like assuming I'm israeli as in
Not him but, are you or your family ethnically or religiously israeli/semitic?
>ever stop to figure that unmoving hate is a bad thing?
ever stop to figure that you could make that argument against any complaint anyone has, thus rendering your argument meaningless
>Isn't even wearing a weave
Shaniqua is going to spend her crack money on Yugioh.
If you want to be upset about the fact that their take on a viking themed set was done in bad faith that's entirely fair, I can see some valid points here- I also think it is silly to make norse inspired gods black. However considering you were just strawmanning about elves and immediately switched subjects without refuting a single thing I said when I knocked your strawmen down I think you probably just hate black people and are looking for things to be mad about.
everyone hates black people anon
>However considering you were just strawmanning about elves
Wasn't me, different anon.
I do fricking hate Black folk though. Why shouldn't I lmfao?
why should you?
>you probably just hate black people
Yes.
> tokenized white characters
Explain
>why does tradition even need to exist
changing things does not eliminate tradition. Also, traditions change over time. They always have.
>why is consistency important
I don't follow how this is "inconsistent"
>It's fricking annoying.
What is "it" and how is it "annoying" to you?
>It'd be like making black panther white or asian.
No, it is not. Black Panther is specifically tied to a history as a lineage of African Kings. The Allosaurus Shepherd never existed before Ixalan and is such a generic nothing that they literally have a white and black version as shown in the original post.
>It's just legitimizing the idea that black characters can no longer be successful unless they're legitimized by white people first.
See the previous response.
things does not eliminate tradition
>not following tradition doesn't remove tradition
Holy shit you're a moron.
>>I don't follow how this is "inconsistent"
>always white in all instances, then black
see above
alright then, I'm moronic
Explain it to me, a moron, why tradition in and of itself is so important that you get needlessly triggered that a piece of cardboard has a black person on it.
Why waste my breath?
You don't even understand the importance of tradition and consistency.
You think it's acceptable that black "representation" is always on the coattails of things that were white.
Go back to whatever moron farm you came from and wax about how great everything would be if it was the same.
>You don't even understand the importance of tradition and consistency.
Because you do not explain it. As someone in his 30s, I find a lot of traditions to be bullshit that are used to push people down. Annoying pressures from out-of-touch old people who think I should be able to do things a certain way just because "ITS HOW ITS ALWAYS BEEN DONE".
>You think it's acceptable that black "representation" is always on the coattails of things that were white.
Considering people who are Black have been historically dehumanized and have been continued to be dehumanized today (see
), sure, they should get more limelight. I'm white. I have Black friends, and I think it's bullshit they have to live in a world where everyone is scared of them. That's a tradition, too, you know, to blindly hate people because of how they look.
>Go back to whatever moron farm you came from and wax about how great everything would be if it was the same.
Apparently, wanting different kinds of elves instead of "Tolkein" means I want everything to be the same now?
>I think it's bullshit they have to live in a world where everyone is scared of them
Really? You don't see any possible reason why blacks are disliked pretty much everywhere around the world?
>I'd rather not think of complex social-political-economic reasons for why bad things happen in a world.
>I know, I'll find a pattern that's easier for my lizard brain to understand
>It must be [insert arbitrary group] that's to blame!
Blacks are not the root cause of any complex processes. Their particular combination of stupidity and arrogance just makes them extremely unpleasant to be around. Do you disagree with this observation?
>Because you do not explain it. As someo[...]
Yeah, and you sound like one of those homosexuals who thinks they know better. For a 30 year old, you sure do need to grow up.
>Considering people who are [...]
lmao, go back. Your moronic rhetoric doesn't work here.
> I'm white.
OY VEY!
>Apparently, wanting[...]
Yeah, it does mean that. Because what you and your ilk champion is a weird grey end result where everything is homogenized into the same bland paste.
Can't have just white elves. Gotta have white, brown, and yellow elves. Everything has to be everything.
Get fricked.
>resulting to attacking me instead of making coherent points.
Cool
No, hundreds of years of human history have conditioned people to think certain things about people, thus making a terrible cycle of oppression. If you were born into a world that hated you for existing and where you were forced into certain roles by those around you, you might end up in a bad position as well. Ever stop to think that there's a lot of problems with the Black population in America is because America is inherently racist?
>ignoring the points because xe was btfo so falls back on "I WAS ATTACKED THEREFORE I WON"
Fricking homosexual. Go back.
>Namecalling and buzzwords
Nah, I think I'll stick around at least a bit longer.
I can acknowledge that blacks have been (and still are) exploited and treated unfairly while not wanting to ever be within a mile of a Black person, anon.
can you acknowledge that your mindset is contributing to the oppression and exploitation? Because it is. Even if you don't ever interact with a black person in your life, you will interact with someone who does, and your thoughts and feelings will rub off on them.
>can you acknowledge that your mindset is contributing to the oppression and exploitation
I wish I could raise the IQ of every single black person in the world by 1 standard deviation, because that is about he only conceivable way they will ever stop being exploited while coexisting with most other ethnicities in the world.
>using IQ
IQ is outdated and ineffective, and has been used specifically to oppress people. It was created by a bunch of stuffy academics based on what they thought SHOULD be the measure of intelligence without taking into account different cultures, languages, or types of intelligence.
Someone could know nothing about math but be a brilliant artist, and IQ could label them a moron.
if you know nothing about math in the modern day you ARE a moron
Curious how this argument only ever gets evoked when testing the IQ of black people and not israelites, asians or whites.
It's almost like it's a tool often misused by American whites to "prove" how stupid American Blacks are.
But why are whites israelites and asians not similarly affected if it's a flawed test?
see
Sounds like moron cope to me.
Maybe they should have put in more effort.
There's a reason chinese parents lock their kids in a room with a math textbook and a violin.
>society stonewalls progression of people at every turn
>HUUR YOU DIDN"T WORK HARD ENOUGH
They show up to school with a single book and a pen. And that's the motivated ones.
Get the frick outta here with "they had no opportunities!"
Bitch, where's my whites only scholarships?
There wouldn't be any black only scholarships if people weren't finding underhanded ways to not give black people the scholarships.
Always an excuse.
Where is my white only scholarship?
>There wouldn't be any black only scholarships if people weren't finding underhanded ways to not give black people the scholarships.
You are 100% delusional. Colleges and businesses are fricking killing each other trying to get the most qualified blacks and women. Any Black person that shows academic rigor will have scholarships and college acceptances thrown at them.
>Because most whites, israelites, and asians in America haven't been as socially oppressed as black people.
Blacks haven't been socially oppressed for decades. They're permavictims though, with israelites coming a close second.
>jews
>oppressed
lmao.
Maybe Black folk should stop acting "just like that" and we wouldn't think they're "just like that".
300 million people in America can't be wrong about them.
>Blacks haven't been socially oppressed for decades.
Just because we don't live in Jim Crow doesn't mean Black people aren't socially oppressed. Thinking "Racism is over" is ignoring issues that exist today.
>Thinking "Racism is over"
Literally zero people think this. Left leaning extremists keep that shit alive just as well as anyone else.
No. They haven't been oppressed for decades.
They just refuse to stand on their own feet.
Easier to live on the teat.
HAHAHAHAHAHA
Blacks are the second most priveleged group today you twit.
The Western World literally worship Black folk.
Strongest correlations for IQ are poverty and early start to education not race. Of course blacks lump in squarely with that since 80% of them live in slums because they've been systematically stuck in poverty due to redlining but your trailer trash white kids also have lower IQ than normal.
people aren't going to look at the economic problems and just go "haha, black people dum!"
the poorest whites commit less crimes than the
richest blacks 🙂
>random rat boy living in a trailer commits less crimes than CEO embezzlement man
OH REALLY? GEE!
cope harder, Black person lovers
I grew up in a trailer park and there's no way that's true, damn near everyone in the park was doin' something illegal. More blacks get arrested, because city PDs actually patrol the ghettos and arrest people on first offenses, whereas podunk rural cops don't give a frick.
Sounds like dumb people cope to me.
So, you're saying that in EVERY instance where there are black people somewhere, the society is instantly bad?
You have evidence of this, surely?
Blacks have not founded a single successful country in the entire history of mankind. No existing black majority country could exist without a constant stream of subsidies from the EU and US.
>a single successful country in the entire history of mankind
why are countries seen as such a measure of greatness? Who is to say that small, close-knit communities aren't also a viable way of doing things?
Even though I would agree that smaller, more tightly-knit communities are preferable to me, personally: it's undeniable that countries require a comparatively unimaginable organizational prowess to run effectively. I would respect it if blacks ever founded a country, successfully run in it for a century and then collectively decide to atomize it back into isolated communities.
You're such a slimy disingenuous c**t. This will never be your site.
>explain why it's so bad that they did this
Did what? I outlined what they DIDN'T do.
why is it bad to make black elves?
do you want black to have mana dorks?
hardy harr har
that card literally does not give any mana what are you smoking
black had mana-producing creatures a while back
Some Goblins are monkeys but elves FROM ANOTHER PLANE can't be black
ok
Elves were fricked up deer people on one plane, black elves isn't even that weird.
we wuz
Disgusting.
>reprint card
>still $30 because they had to put it in a set where the packs are $15
Frick wotc. Also that artwork is ugly as shit. All the artwork is so fricking ugly now.
sick of it too: arcane signet, esper sentinel stand out in my mind. countless cards in every new set like bloodbraid elf
Should i buy double master to get the gambling high for 400cad
I will get good cards right?
My LGS is closing in a week and Arena is scummy, frick wizards
Since magic is focusing on being inclusive now, that means there's a better chance I get to play with a cute girl at my local game store, right? Sign me up!
"girl"
Its either landwhales or troons. Sorry anon, not everyone can get a 6/10 Emma Partlow, and you'd be lucky to get one
She cute. Too bad she wants to charge 50 bucks for an hour session of competitive MTG coaching.
at least they stopped making abominations like that fat neon haired monster tamer card
why does wotc hate white? I feel like we get the short end of the stick in general compared to the other colors
>Why does WOTC hate white
Self explanatory.
Because they can just give it broken cards (Skyclave Apparition) or mindless archetypes (angels) instead of fixing it because that would require them to admit that the color pie is fricked and the other 4 colors can do what white can but better.
>ravenform and divine gambit in the same set
Good thing I'm a mono red goblin chad I feel bad for them sometimes
>divine gambit
Commandertrannies need cards for their autism sessions, please understand 🙂
They don’t hate white they just like blue and green more
You know what was a mistake? Letting Phyrexians jump planes. Jin Gitaxias was such a weeaboo he found out how and then he traveled to Japan for anime conventions and to get his waifu Tamiyo
>the mangaka whose fictional card game name was inspired by MTG ("Magic and Wizards") dies today
>I find out about those soulless variants todat
Something something somethint, art imitates life
>being upset about alt art reprints
just don't buy them lmao
>reprint
moron
Both of those Fortnite cards are literally reprints with different names and art. It tells you the name of the card they're reprints of on the card.
I don't think there's another company like WotC that is so toxic to its own IP in every single capacity possible. Not even Warhammer's IP owner's do the moronic shit WotC does, though they have their own flavor of bad
why do yugioh players whine about interaction so much?
The joke about the game being solitaire did not come from nowhere
I have seen yugioh players get upset and leave tournaments if their combos get countered
The very first black angel was printed in Planar Chaos, a set that features parallel timelines. Black angels were supposed to be an anomaly
The weird part of this one, lorewise, is that it's male- not black. I dunno if its still true but for a long time the internal style guide for MTG said angels were an all-female race.
It was also male.
Angels in MtG are always female.
Or were. I think that rule might have been retconned too.
Nobody plays standard. If anything the things you see unsold are commander precons which they churn out every 2 months
Magic makes more products than both.
People are buying Pokémon for nostalgia.
Only Black folk and smelly weebs buy yugioh. MPH4S7
ITT:
homosexuals complaining that there are too many black characters in a thread about a Fortnite Secret Lair based on a card game that features a Fantasy Multiverse where races and tribes get mixed and swapped all the time.
it's all so tiresome.
>Hey, look, it's [insert topic here]
>LOOK A Black person! AAAAH SAVE ME I"M GOING INSANE!
>dude how come this 400 post thread has shifted topics wtf?
have a nice day troony
>giving a shit about post-eldrazi MTG
Shiggy
How are the Unsets? Any worth getting or having fun with?
>giving money to wotc
Never worth it
Unglued was good, Unhinged was meh, Unstable was alright, but I thought the jokes were not as good as the first one
Next one looks promising. But as all Unsets, they're not very good outside Drafting. Sealed can be fun, but challenging and with some feel bad moments.
At least some cards will work with Commander now
>I don’t play card games, but yugioh cards looks more appealing that magic
Every person in this thread talking about paper dying is a terminally online culture warrior homosexual.
I live in a podunk town and even then the LGSs nearby have consistent large group of regulars who come to play three times a week, along with new groups of high school aged kids getting into the game for the first time.
Do I think WotC isn't a moronic company? No. But you're either a fricking fool or a liar if you think some bad art or generic corporate LGBT pandering is gonna stop people playing this game.
That's what happens when you don't leave your room and base reality on what Ganker thinks
I live in major area and 3 of the 4 lgs have shut down. Your anecdote is gay.
Hey, you think that might have something to do with those lockdowns 2 years ago that forced a frickton of hobby shops to close down?
What's that? You actually think it's because Wizards put some fat gay dudes on a card? Wow nice theory, you should totally not kys.
Happy for you anon
I tried to get into MTG like 8 years ago. Can anyone explain why lands are always so fricking expensive? Like it's the first and most important part of building your deck is lands and they where the most expensive part without fail. standard, modern, legacy it didn't matter the format. Out of all cards why wouldn't they mass print all the good lands so people can actually play the fricking game? Yugioh doesn't have a mana system and Pokemon energies aren't worth the cardboard they are printed on.
makes them money
So high demand/low supply.
Post favorite cards
>entire thread is about hating blacks
>blacks happen to have my favorite card
Amazing card and art
Its a shame they never printed the necro guy as a creature. Maybe in some future Horizons set
i play red
i bolt face
simple as
I remember when I thought this was like the best card ever
it might not be good but it's still my favorite
Still my favourite flavour test. too. I don't want modern WoTC to touch Urza's Saga. But here we go with an Urza set at the end of the year
It sucks that Bandai adamantly refuses to make an online client, because DCG blows current MtG and YGO out of the water completely.
Alchemy is so stupid. The main idea behind it was that they can do the Hearthstone route of nerfing or buffing cards without affecting the paper game.
What do they do when there's an infinite combo? Ban the card. No nerf or fix.
It's braindead
I did back when I was actually playing Arena. Made the monoblack sac deck for alchemy standard, it was good playing with my friend Blood Artist again.
When is my wife going to be playable in fortnite?
>BBBBBUTTTTT Black person BAD!!!
I dunno, he seems pretty based to me
I like how this one card singlehandedly make content creators careful about saying his name. It feels unnatural everutime most of them say it.
Isn't it just pronounced nath-rod?
Or do morons think it's pronounced homie-throd?
Most say it as negathrod
Only that commander channel with the 2 gays pronounce it that way
Just pronounce it with a silent G or like "Ingathrod" isn't it
