>magic is way more costly and resource dependent to utilize than just going full caveman and using your unbreakable sword against everything
Name ONE game where magic isn't straight up worse than melee. Oh wait, you can't
Nothing Ever Happens Shirt $21.68 |
Ape Out Shirt $21.68 |
Nothing Ever Happens Shirt $21.68 |
Dragon age origins
beat me to it
also basically any fantasy setting game
Diablo II.
path of exile
Most games, honestly. I can't think of any where pure melee isn't worst than using magic.
*worse
skyrim
elden ring
>Skyrim
I'll give you stealth archers, but alchemy is the most broken shit in the game.
>Elden Ring
Absolutely not. MAYBE PvP since you can negate most spells by just dodging, but Stars of Ruin spam can take care of most people.
>alchemy is the most broken shit in the game.
alchemy is not magic wtf. Destruction is complete ass
Ring
>Absolutely not
absolutely yes. Spamming dual colossal jump attack or rivers of blood completely shits on magic
t. did both playthroughs
>alchemy is not magic
I was about to call bullshit, then I remembered that Skyrim split the 3 crafting classes between the main combat types, so Alchemy went to sneak/light combat
>making drugs skill is in the crime skills section
so?
>Destruction is complete ass
It's the master spells that really piss me off. They are so bad it's almost insulting.
destruction is good at exactly one point: the mid game where you can get 100% cost reduction and stunlock everything to death
it sucks balls at the start and it sucks balls again in the late game when you could just enchant yourself a 9999 damage lifesteal sword
>Alchemy is not magic
I would certainly consider it to be, but we can just disagree on that. Another person brought up enchantments, which I would also consider to be magic.
>absolutely yes. Spamming dual colossal jump attack or rivers of blood completely shits on magic
>t. did both playthroughs
So have I. I would personally consider Corpse Piler to be a magical attack, but that's irrelevant. The Dragon Breath spells allow you to shit on almost everything in the game, and MLGS R2 spam does massive poise damage from range. This isn't even taking into account stuff like Comet Azur with infinite FP.
Destruction spells do fricking suck without mods, though. Who thought it was a good idea to for the damage to not scale?
On the PvE side laser one shots most things in the game, and one the PvP side if you can't answer Stars of Ruin your build just isn't viable.
rivers of blood is essentially magic (like hoarfrost) and dual colossals is just one specific build. Magic is simply better, and the difference becomes bigger in the previous Souls games
Destruction is only good when you have the potions that make it do more damage. Illusion magic is op in skyrim though. Pacify spell with vampire necromage build basically breaks the game.
dual colossal jumping attack is worse than many fricking spells out there and reddit of blood doesnt even get near the level of cheese possible with infinite fp physick
t. soulsgay and bigger penis than u
>alchemy is not magic
what an utter buffoon, Alchemy is THE magic. The reason most other "fields" of magic even exist. Medieval Scholars would spends countless hours studying foreign grimoires just for a chance at maybe understanding alchemy a bit better.
Look, I don't care what the stats say. Cutting people up with razor sharp blood is fricking magic. Its just imbued in the blade instead of in you
Many SMT games it's better to go WORLD OF STRENGTH though you'll still use magic a bit for buffs and healing.
>can shoot every boss with a laser once to kill them
It's more like a particle cannon tbhdesu
>b-but
Cope
It’s a one button game
are you a bot or something? that anon wasn't even disagreeing with you
Most Dragon Quest games.
op is a dumb frick magic user which is the true caveman class as the resource management is never an issue and being ranged is always an advantage
Melee, spells, zombies, totems, mines, bows
You can literally do anything and make it work well with enough dedication.
>magic bullet
>literally stunlock EVERY enemy to death.
Trials of mana
By the end game you have like infinite mana and can cast AOE spells constantly which just obliterate everything
its really fun
Terraria
Ding ding ding
>Every spell drains your mana in seconds, >Need an accessory that auto drinks mana potions
>Need a full inventory of thousands of potions to last a single boss
>Each potion you drink reduce your damage up to 50%
Meanwhile, melee fires more magic lasers than you, for free, and does more damage doing it
They should completly rework how the mage class works, since they are reworking melee
I think they could add a new weapon type that lets you absorb mana from enemies when you hit them and change mana potions so they reduce the cost of magic instead of just giving you more mana
make mana cuffs reasonably obtainable instead of having to pray for traveling merchant rng so you just have to build mana star statues near where you're fighting. I recall the next update is also making the statues easier to get too.
Nah melee and ranger straigth up bodies magic most of the game (ranger beats pratically everything in pre hardmode, while melee beats everything at end of the game)
ranger still has higher DPS
TES Oblivion.
Get a second tier touch spell in the Imperial City, and you 1-2 shot all the early game shit in the game. Then, after that, you just horde spells and craft the perfect spell for literally any situation you could ever be in.
Baldurs gate 2
Diablo, Baldur's Gate, Arcanum, Path of Exile, Lands of Lore
>Baldur's Gate
>Mages end up tankier than any other class in the game
>Also have almost unparalleled utility
>Fighter/Mage can do all of that AND are great at fighting with weapons
How can magiclets even compete?
dark souls? moron
Elden Ring. I BTFO most of the game except Melania.
>what if capeshit... but GORE?
what a bad cartoon, also the gay friend and interracial couples shoved everywhere were completely unnecessary
>what if capeshit... but GORE?
Meanwhile in Batman No. 1
>this is supposed to compete with manga
lol the paneling is horrible
that comic is a century old
It came out in 1940, just be glad the characters actually change position.
And move their mouths.
And don't rely on 50 different beams because the author is too lazy to actually come up with a solution.
Like Stardust.
>batman hangs a monster to death
Come on dude, that doesn't come close to comparing with Invincible's gore. You know you're being dishonest with this.
Batman No. Whatever.
Joker peels off his own face and staples it back on for fun.
Or Blob eating Whats Her Nuts.
Or pretty much any fight involving Deadpool.
Watchmen.
Marvel Zombies.
Old Man Logan being eaten by the Hulk and then tearing his way out of his stomach.
The Ruins series where Bruce Banner turns into a giant mass of tumors instead of the Hulk due to gamma radiation.
The Mask comics.
tldr: Comics have been gory and dark long before Invincible.
Why did he eat her
He was hungry
Okay that's genuinely horrifying and fricked up, love it
>batman never kills
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
>gore is le bad
when did Ganker get infested with soccer moms
2012 is when people started crying about "edgy" on Ganker. It's been a decade and we haven't gotten rid of these morons.
The Invincible comic is only interesting because of the longstanding continuity
normal people:
>great plot
>great characters
>excellent voice acting
>entertaining fights
/v/tard:
>HURR DURR LE GORE
>normal people:
not welcome
plot
Let me tell you, that shit is right out the window the farther they get in the story if they try an faithfully adapt the rest of the comic lmao
plot
>three normal ass robots made from fricking dead people somehow able to stand up to a fricking guy who destroyed an entire civilization by himself
homie powerscaling's the entire crux of the story and they're fricking up THIS early on
All they did was gang up on him, bite him, annoy him and he tore them in half. This would be like a few raccoons attacking a 6'9 bodybuilder. Invincible's never been about powerscale DBZ bullshit that hispanics and third-wordlers can get off to in fact most capeshit isn't. Superman couldn't even fly during his debut comic and Batman was just some nutjob using guns and a costume, devoid of martial arts period.
>All they did was gang up on him, bite him, annoy him and he tore them in half
they stood up to him for about the same time as the fricking cthulu ass beast that they unleashed on him later on
my issue is that it's three fricking zombie robots. they shouldn't even be raccoons they should be fricking ants.
Spic.
>NOOOOO, MY POWERSCALINGRINO
homie just assume they are extra powerful cyborgs for some bullshit reason, they almost beat Invincible and Cecil wouldnt waste his time hiring some nutjob that can simply make some "normal ass robots"
>powerscaling's the entire crux of the story and they're fricking up
THIS
Viltrumites can survive outer space and tank a literal sun bath for a couple of minutes yet somehow Not-Flash was able to bruise Omniman's chest with his punches even though his fist broke striking Viltrum pecs
Force is mass X velocity.
>Not-Flash was able to bruise Omniman's chest with his punches even though his fist broke striking Viltrum pecs
Should tell you how fricking hard he was punching him then, shouldn't it, sperg?
Only reason worth watching was because of Omni-man and the Viltrumites which have a Might Makes Right society, but of course, they end up going against them and winning. Only season 1 is worth watching, after that it's not.
>but of course, they end up going against them and winning
Did you not read to the end? Mark goes right back to doing the same thing he opposed at the start. The series ends with a 500 year timelapse showing Mark successfully conquering all of space for the Viltrum empire, with the last page being him thinking back on his dad's words about what he would have that much later if he tried to stop it from happening.
Based. Never read until the end, will further check it out if true.
so it's a "bad end"?
>Mark ends up with an empire of peacekeepers and an immortal wife who loves him
Nah
Nah Kirkman isn't a cynical moron even though he loves gore and adult themes. Even TWD ended with Rick being immortalized and humanity treating Walkers like rodents and starting new civilizations.
No. He essentaly has the vults act as UN peacekeepers with bite that bring punch-point-democracy to planets. Most give in without a fight because Mark as king is just running things so much better than their previous space federation that its stupid not to.
Most of this is off screen and done by time skip, but parallels are obvious.
that sounds kinda based, actually.
>An immortal benevolent king that brought the universe to heel
That sounds like the best end possible for those morons.
It honestly was the best ending a story like this could have had.
damn
I always liked Invincible because i always saw it as "Dragon Ball Z done right"
it's not just gore for gore's sake though. it's supposed to be brutal and horrible looking to emphasize just how fricking awful/strong the people committing the violence are. every graphic scene is an incredibly strong being crushing the weak. if it upsets you, it should. that's the point.
not sure about the gay friend but i know the annoying girlfriend used to be blonde in the comic (she's called Amber) but they made her a Black person
not that i mind since the main waifu is Atom Eve and she's still a redhead
Amber in the comics also wasn't a fricking b***h.
Thee gay friend wasn't gay until later, and even dated Eve for a bit.
The comic didn't have any interracial couples up to the point where it's been adapted (later on we do get Duplikate and The Immortal), both Rex and Amber were white.
Also William not only didn't come out as gay for a long time but he was outwardly homophobic at the start of the series
Read the comic, it's good
Morrowind
Any game that has a good magic system will make the resource dependency trivial in mid to end game.
Boring topic, give me games where both physical and magic are viable builds.
Pic related
Elden Ring
>magic is way more costly and resource dependent to utilize than just going full caveman and using your unbreakable sword against everything
as it should be
get your namby pamby dress wearing ass out of here, nerd
Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2
In fantasy, magic should apply to all walks of life in some way.
Sorcery should be shooting energy beams out of your ass while floating and teleporting using the life energy within yourself and releasing it.
Pure magic should be mustering the power of life energies around you and manipulating the elements like concentrating all the water vapor in the air to create a large body of dense water to shoot at someone or combine it with wind to freeze it for ice shards.
Melee should be sorcery, but you focus purely on strengthening your body so you can run faster, swing harder, take more damage etc.
now you're just asking for some special snowflake MC to not have access to magic at all, and just becomes the best off of pure MOTIVATION
No you fat moron, that is what happens in the opposite of my world where melee/archers do not have magic, yet there are wizards in said world who these melee classes are equal to for no reason.
>OP magic wizards running around
>MC melee-kun is strong and the best because he is hard working and has friends
You can't just beat a fire tornado cast at you with medieval armor, which would literally turn against you as the heated metal burns you alive. Even if it was enchanted gear, melee classes need to utilize magic too else they'd just get 1 shot instantly or run a measly very normal human speed of 8 MPH
Any DND game after level 3.
currently playing a warlock rn. eldritch blast never gets old. baby
Stick of truth if it counts
Homelander solos him
Lol no. Omniman outclasses him in every category.
Wrong
Viltrumites can survive for a while standing directly on the sun.
In the comic canon:
>There are power armour suits that when struck will resonate a disorienting frequency that incapacitates Viltrumites
>There is an audio frequency that is even stronger and puts Viltrumites into an instant coma when they hear it
Combine the two and a single regular human could solo their entire army.
Yeah but homelander doesn't possess that technology and his universe is several decades behind in technology so I don't even know if they could recreate it even with enough time. They also don't possess people with superhuman level intelligence like Robot that could recreate it. Anyway, even if there was it would be the moment support roles would be allowed for Omniman as well and the level of support he can acquire with just people like Robot outclasses anyone Homelander could get. And even if they had that technology, it just incapacitates Viltrumites. They can't even kill homelander, they won't even be able to scratch viltrumites. Also there is reason to believe that if the viltrumites eardrums explode they can at least defend themselves even if they can't fly. Also since the reason the frequency affects them has something to do with the physics of flying for them it could affect homelander as well.
no.
p5s
You would get your ass handed to you if you try to go full unga bunga
Doesn't count when you can only play magic users to begin with.
Magicka
Diablo 2
>magic is easy mode
what game
geneforge 1: mutagen
it was free on epic a couple weeks ago. enjoying it
Dragons Dogma
Elder Ring
Magic is hilariously OP in Devil Survivor
Dragon's Dogma
You can go straight unga, archery, monster climb'an, or magical nuke and drop meteors on your foes.
I prefer the physical classes but the magic classes are just as viable, hell magic archer is pretty much busted in BBI.
What the frick was his problem?
Doesn't Morrowind and Oblivion have some bullshit magic?
You can get buff spells in Morrowind that don't have a time limit because of a glitch and just be permanently overpowered
>melee is way too risky because of close combat
>ranger is the best dps wise and the safest against damage
>magic is just shittier slower ranger with resource management
What is Terraria for $250, Alex
Not counting the mid-to-endgame "melee" weapons i guess
Morrowind
going full on brainlet gigagrug build is funner to me than going with magic in most cases
it really depends on the engine though. if the meele has ragdoll animations but magic doesn't, I know which one I'll pick
Kingdom Hearts
>He doesn't cut out the MP middleman and just use items directly
Just like it would be in real life if it existed you have to have a very high IQ to understand Magic in video games. Magic is often the most broken once you break it, but lame if you use it normally like a simpleton
Arcanum
Fable 2 & Fable 3
Underrail
Dungeons and Dragons 3rd Edition
West of Loathing
A metric frickton of WRPGs that aren't Eldar Scrolls
When are we going to get an Image Comics game since Invincible and The Boys are going gangbusters?
I could totally see a tongue in cheek game for The Boy's that's basically an In-Universe Seven branded game.
rogue legacy 2
>using weapons instead of going for the fist fighter build
pathetic
Terraria, in which Magic mogs the shit out of pure melee
"ranged" melee weapons don't really count since they play the same as a ranged weapon.
Magic is also incredibly strong in Elden Ring
Shin Megami Tensei 3, sure most people build Demi-fiend to punch through everything, but eventually you’ll find something immune to your punches, or may need buffs to do any actual damage.
DnD 3E and later
If Baldur's Gate is an accurate representation of DnD, I'd say 2e as well
>Name ONE game where magic isn't straight up worse than melee. Oh wait, you can't
Neverwinter Nights
Neverwinter Nights 2+Mask of the Betrayer
Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous
Divinity: Original Sin
Divinity: Original Sin 2
Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magic Obscura
Fable
Fable 2
Diablo
Diablo 2
Diablo 3
Guild Wars 1
Fire Emblem
Octopath Traveler
Most mainline FF games
You cant really even do a pure melee in Divinity 2, even the most mundane of fighty dudes has superman jumps that literally ignite the ground on fire and shit.
Dokapon Kingdom
Magic is worse in 1v1 combat, but if everybody else takes magic as a dump stat, you can nuke them from the other side of the map with impunity.
Magic is amazing in the midgame in dokapon. It's so funny getting in a fight and just thinking "it's not gonna matter what you pick, this spell is going through your magic guard and all your HP". Of course that gets fricked once people start getting the bounce defensive spell.
Honestly anyone who doesn't level magic is just asking for pain in that game. Atk can be supplemented by getting a powerful weapon so at the very least your strikes are still threatening, but If you neglect magic or speed you just end up seriously fricked. Especially magic. Just meteoring people to death from across the map is way too strong, and since magic accuracy is even decided by magic stats there's nothing they can do if they've fallen behind.
d&d 3.5
>destiny 2
>warframe(you can argue that some frames abilities are akin to magic)
>i dont play mmo's but im sure there are many classes in many mmo's where magic is better than melee
>any arpg(diablo/torchlight/poe/last epoch ect)
>vampire survivors
>bloons td6
>elden ring
>dishonored 2(with the right build)
>ubreakable sword is actually not that strong and I can just enchant a blade and shoot fireballs and summon meteors
there, I can be a shithead too.
Morrowind
Skyrim
We will always go back to skyrim
Not exactly rpg but in heroes 3 might and magic is both decently balanced, magic starts stronger but as army size grows then might becomes better
Souls games,
literally bind one handed moron can beat any boss on first try by using magic
Morrowind but only lategame.
Nah honestly frick it. Best Morrowind playstyle is a mix of both anyway.
Dungeons & Dragons Online
Fighter
>Step into room
>Try to pull only some of the enemies
>Try to use tactics abilities to briefly disable maybe up to a few enemies
>Hit them over and over, whittling down their HP as they wear you down
>Hope the door to the next room leads to a shrine to heal up
Sorcerer
>Saunter into room
>Gather every enemy into one spot around you
>Cast one spell at the floor, killing everything
>Saunter into next room
That's just Sorcerer in D&D in general
But it's a video game, so it counts.
>going full caveman and using your unbreakable sword against everything
It's nice that fiction doesn't assume you take permanent damage from anything. Barbarian's cool and all until you get hamstrung.
ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
magic always outshines melee in all games. play more games you underage homosexual and stop watching 18+ entertainment. go away.
Bloodborne.
Really needed a more expansive arcane toolset and abilities.
God, all Souls combat looks moronic.
That's just how magic cheese is.
The Chalice Dungeons are a joy.
What's the point of a spell like that where half the shots aim directly to the ground.
What if you're surrounded by enemies?
A Call Beyond does incredible damage most of the time, and it has the largest range of any spell. The beams of light also have fantastic tracking. It works best in open areas where the beams don't collide with the environment.
Dragon's Dogma.
I can't play an actual caster in that game without falling asleep. Mystic Knight and Magick Archer I can understand, but frick, Mage and Socrerer have so little interactivity and lose their novelty fast.
Dragon Age, and basically every DnD game set before 4E.
>I use Gate and have my army of cryptids rape yoi
Diablo2 and it's not even close to how ridiculously one sided it is
