Well holy shit. Why didn't you buttholes tell me this existed? The cheeky nods to symphony are also pretty amusing like the confession table ghost and the vorpal blade translation

Well holy shit. Why didn't you buttholes tell me this existed? The cheeky nods to symphony are also pretty amusing like the confession table ghost and the vorpal blade translation
>Why didn't you buttholes tell me
not our job to do your homework
This was like one of the most prominent games when it was dropping. Its very fun though, feels like they yanked this game right off the PS2.
>yanked this game right off the PS2
What do you mean by that?
He means it's soulful
He means they copied the gameplay/art direction from a PS2 Castlevania game.
feels soulful, has some goofy fun moments, feels like a complete package.
It's really good, i also recomend the 8bit spin-offs if you are into classicvania
I liked it more than I thought I would but I tried replaying it and just couldn't get into it again, I don't know why.
Probably the shard collectathon and crafting aspects. Grinding those shards is the kind of dopamine hit you get from gacha but once you've done the kill doorway shuffle all through your first playthrough the prospect of doing it again for shards you already got last game becomes such a chore.
In Aria of Sorrow it was one soul, one power, then Dawn of Sorrow made us grind 9 souls to use an enemies full power and finally Bloodstained we need 9 shards plus 9 crafting upgrades of max out a power.
I like Bloodstained by my god to I hope the sequel is less of a grindathon.
The shard grinding was really obnoxious, but crafting weapons, clothes, and accessories wasn't bad at all
It's more shard upgrade crafting that I have an issue with. Weapons and armor was fine and optional.
Yeah I meant to say the shard crafting was really obnoxious. Thanks for the correction.
>I liked it more than I thought I would but I tried replaying it and just couldn't get into it again, I don't know why.
Probably because for a lot of RPGs, but especially bloodstained, the first bosses are the toughest.
Grinding gets better and more effective as you start beating more bosses and getting access to more levels.
10 hours of grinding after having beaten the first boss isnt as effective as much maxing out a yellow shard for whatever weapon you want to use like the dagger.
Why do we need two bloodstained threads right now?
GEE BILLY WHY DOES MOM
Inverted thread, you need two
Because it has two games?
one shilling bloodstained and the other shiting on it.
Castlevania Judgement but Good(just copy Dissidia 013's gameplay) when Iguhacky
Did you just get into Castlevania two years ago or something? We were absolutely yelling about this.
It's good but disappointing that it wasn't better than Symphony or Aria. Give the NES style Bloodstained games a chance, they're more underrated.
i think they are better in every aspect except graphics
the music is better than Aria and on par with Symphony, maybe a little worse
i mean, the game has a huge map, lots of weapons, tons of souls/shards, MORE types of souls/shards, multiple playable characters AND an actual hard mode
>the music is better than Aria and on par with Symphony
show me a song from Aria better than this
ill wait for you to post some crusty ass bip bop gameboy tune
I'll post the tune of the same area from AoS
you shouldn't talk smack about games you haven't played before.
im sorry, i didnt know you were deaf, i mean i assume you are if you actually think AoS with that crusty ass soundchip sounds better
>you shouldn't talk smack about games you haven't played before.
pic related
>2021
>crusty ass soundchip
okay zoomer. If your measure of music depends on the recording and not on the musical track itself, then that speaks volumes by itself.
>>2021
you stupid fricking moron that collection released in 2021, do you want me to travel back in time and unlock that achievement 10 years prior?
>but-but you didnt play it at this arbitrary date so it doesnt count
i played it many years ago, but if i said that you wouldnt believe me, the achievement is the evidence
>okay zoomer. If your measure of music depends on the recording and not on the musical track itself, then that speaks volumes by itself.
so you are telling me i shouldnt judge music based on how it sounds, moron?
bet you also think that the NES castlevania music sucks just because it is "chiptune"-y to you.
see how insecure and defensive you are?
i never said AoS music sucked, i said it was WORSE than Bloodstained's which benefited from MUCH better tech
the AoS music is good but its crippled by the crusty ass soundchip of the GBA
oh and the original Castlevania games do have some banger tunes, unfortunately crippled by inferior tech (specially the NA versions of the games) and short loops
Bloody Tears is like what? 30 seconds? what a crime
>"chiptune"-y
notice how i NEVER mentioned the word "chiptune" you are quoting nobody
Meanwhile...
>be random sound programmer at Konami
>completely mog every other composer to write for Castlevania
my friend couldnt stand HoD because of the music, and yes the quality is inferior to the other castlevanias, even the GBA titles, EXCEPT for the end theme for some fricking reason
why? it sounds so much better than anything else in the game
Because it does sound like Castlevania music, but unusual. Whereas Aria sounds closer to 70s/80s anime/some jrpg of that era, but not like Castlevania. And RotN inherits. Not that they sound bad, no, just not like Castlevania should.
Pardon me, and RotN inherits and also changes it into 90s/early 2000s anime.
>the music is better than Aria and on par with Symphony
>make a 100% rip off clone game
I think that's what you're missing -- it is but it isn't. It combines the movement of Symphony with the Souls mechanics of the Sorrow games, plus the side quests of Ecclesia, plus its own crafting system and unique aesthetic. It's got its own identity but also pulls from all of the most interesting aspects of the IGA era of Castlevania.
It's not perfect, but it's a great foundation for, hopefully, a sequel that really finds its footing in terms of graphics and art direction. I'd love for them to actually work with ArcSys and have them help with getting a proper 2D style using 3D graphics in a sidescroller. Of course, they need to fricking finish this game first.
Please give me other games that are exactly like symphony and bloodstained. I like this gamepay formula a lot and want to play more of this
No castlevania games, I played them all. No metroid dread or other metroid games, played those too and it's not 100% the same thing anywy
If they existed, people would talk about them. But they don't, only indies make metroid/castlevania clones and none of them have the Igavania flair, and too many are too concerned with trying to be 2D Dark Souls
surely there's more? wtf is bloodstained the only game that bothered to copy the formula without becoming 2d soulshit?
Overwhelming majority of indie developers either think "making new SotN is too hard, i'll go with simplier solution" or "i am unique and will make unique game" or "i can fix all gameplay flaws i think game has" (hence souls gameplay and speedrun-oriented game design) or "nobody does SotN clone, everybody does souls, i'll roll with majority". Dark Souls 1 handling exploration pretty well (which overlaps with main feature of castleroids) doesn't help.
I also think a lot of it is just that making a game with a ton of gear and drops and proper RPG elements and whatnot is a lot of work. Usually indie Metroidvanias have more complex combat but all of the systems around it are pretty simple.
You're welcome. Also the first Blasphemous might scratch your itch a little
nta but thanks. Is there more?
at this point I'm so wanting new metroidvanias that piggyback off SOTN that I'll even accept good romhacks if they exist
>good romhacks
check out rondo of the night for sotn.
Team Ladybug are known for doing pretty good SotN inspired Metroidvanias.
Before Deedlit on Wonder Labyrinth they had Touhou Luna Nights.
Unsurprisingly that has bullet hell elements in it.
https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/20245/Team_Ladybug_Bundle/
They recently made a horizontal shooter called Drainus, not a Metroidvania obviously but apparently good.
Their next game however, Blade Chimera, is another solid looking Metroidvania with a really cool weapon/utility gimmick.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2671230/BLADE_CHIMERA/
On the subject of Touhou Metroidvania, there's actually two more that ape SotN even harder.
The first one didn't review too well though, but the sequel is apparently better.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1229880/Koumajou_Remilia_Scarlet_Symphony/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1229890/Koumajou_Remilia__Strangers_Requiem/
All the games I've mentioned have Switch releases too.
>On the subject of Touhou Metroidvania, there's actually two more that ape SotN even harder.
You mean rondo, not SotN. Those are not metroidvanias. They're more like classicvanias with modern movement.
I love the game but don't like how deedlit looks in the art. her OVA look is the best.
woah, thanks. looked it up and basically a sotn clone. I'm going for it.
I need more games like this anons..
That touhou game made by the same devs is also good.
Also i might get shit on because the game im about to mention is completely linear but astilibra is a pretty good game BUT its completely linear and also not as good as sotn on a lot of levels.
you might enjoy Valdis Story, it had decent art (at a horribly low resolution for some reason), a fairly big map, with lots of side quests and gear to unlock, and 4 playabler characters, plus unlike castlevania games, you can select which attributes to power up once you level up, its legitimately a great game but...
it has the most attrocious final boss ive ever seen, i was astonished, i cant believe someone thought it was ok to ship that, its unbelievably frustrating, so, great game, ends on a sour note
Haven’t played in ages but I don’t remember the last boss being that bad. Played when there were only two playable characters though - did they do something to it in patches? I feel like the only key was to actually use your assists for extra damage.
let me thing, its been a while, i do remember the fricker had an attack to regenerate health, the arena was full of projectiles everywhere and he had some annoying damage resistances
It is a bit of a stretch, but you may enjoy Astlibra Revision. It has tons of weapons, crafting and playstyles (but it isn't really a true Metroidvania as it has strict levels until near endgame).
Prince of Persia The Lost Crown
Hollow Knight
Blasphemous I & II
Thought hollow knight was more of soulshit rather than a metroidvania
It is not exactly "soulshit" and is closer to castleroids without dream/grimm/godseeker bosses, which were created in favour of increasing difficulty for the sake of increasing difficulty. You just don't see latest hk "fan" without touhouesque video of a latest bosses, which makes me sad, as that means, that Silksong will be built most likely around newer bosses rather than around original game.
Arguably it is. I'd call it a Metroid-like before a Metroidvania. The only elements it really brings in from Souls are the respawn and currency loss mechanics, unless you count "is hard" as a Souls element.
Otherwise, the exploration, backtracking and equipment progression are all Metroid. There aren't any real RPG or gear or enemy drops or other elements that made SotN unique for its time, so there's no -vania in its formula in my opinion.
>100% ripoff clone
i mean it's literally the creator of the original making another one, just a sequel without the license
>a sequel without the license
it's not. It has zero horror elements unlike what castlevania had.
? it has zombies, skeletons, bats and shit
>zombies, skeletons
no, RoTN doesn't have any. CotM has some. it doesn't even have blood or gore anywhere except for a couple of places.
bro you literally fight a vampire that uses her blood as attacks
yea that's one of the 2 instances I mentioned where you see blood in the entire game.
yeah so the "zero" horror elements is factually wrong
close to zero is more like it. I don't like how a castle of chaos doesn't have much creepy or evil vibe to it. everything in it is just lame.
for me it was those stupid Kickstarter rewards like cats and dogs as giant enemies. absolutely ruined any immersion
frick you, those were great, i actually didnt know those were backer rewards, i just thought they were a wacky modern interpretation of a mythical horror creature
like a giant vicious dog head would be scary, but here these look like giant chihuahua dog heads or something, is cool, like the butler skeleton in previous games
>i just thought they were a wacky modern interpretation of a mythical horror creature
I really hope this is a troll post.
its not, what makes the giant puddle head bad but the waiter skeleton throwing curry ok?
do you think dracula uses human waiters to serve him food when humans are his food?
Subtlety
how is it subtle? one is a waiter skeleton that throws curry at you, the other is a giant dog head, neither is subtle
It was a homage to one of the programmers who worked in Aria, you dunce. How is it as unsubtle as getting paid to get some people's faces and their pets in game?
you wouldnt know either of those things were homages without looking them up, for instance i didnt know the dog heads were homages to anything
>skeleton waiter which is coherent with the undead themed enemies
>dog and cat enemies out of nowhere, and clashing/out of place with the other enemy designs in the game
>"have to look up know the difference"
sure ok.
>>dog and cat enemies out of nowhere, and clashing/out of place with the other enemy designs in the game
oh yeah, surely there are no other canine enemies in the game right?
https://bloodstained.fandom.com/wiki/Gieremund
https://bloodstained.fandom.com/wiki/Ordog
https://bloodstained.fandom.com/wiki/Wolfman
see both Bloodstained and Casltevania take enemies from cryptids and demons from folklore all over the world, i simply assumed that a giant disembodied dog head was a local demon from a village in the middle of fricking nowhere
the cat and dogs in
sure look demonic like those in the wiki articles you've posted. scary!
and the fricking Waiter Skeleton is supposed to be scary!?
we are running in circles
also for the record, i think the giant vicious disembodied head of Terrier is appropriately creepy, precisely because of the juxtaposition of something youd consider innocent, a little dog, but twisted into whats clearly a monster
skeletons are spooky.
oh yeah? guess what!?
theres a skeleton inside the dog head
Not him but I literally had no idea these were backer rewards until just now. They just look like weird monsters. The painting enemies are more jarring since you can tell those are real people because they're all ugly shlubs.
lol
The paintings are worse because they all look like numale sòyboys.
Yes? I don't get who you're trying to convince here.
myself. Now I'm convinced that you're blind.
what are you trying to prove here?, the cats are fine, and the dogs are actually a great design, they look silly but also kind of creepy
I loved these enemies
see there's one huge cheap trick that iga pulls in this game, and that is the setting. since the game takes place in a "castle of chaos" literally anything and everything is allowed to exist lorewise. he uses this to design random incoherent crap as locations and enemies, which may seem interesting to him or easy to design and throw it in game instead of meticulously planning/designing ahead.
Man you ain't wrong, SotN epitomises this with the endless fun shit you can stumble across.
Neat, since yeah WayForward was involved with RotN.
I'm actually surprised a Shantae thing wasn't in there earlier. Even Shovel Knight was in the game from day one.
>SotN epitomises this
not really. SotN was constricted by pre-established rules set by the previous castlevania games especially rondo of blood since it is a direct sequel to it. It couldn't risk featuring outlandish stuff so the castle was well crafted with care in line with the gothic theme whereas bloodstained, being a new franchise gave him free rein. my main qualm is that he half assed it and didn't make absurd uses of it more like how he did in the 8bit area.
Man the castle, its monsters and how it's oriented change literally every single game. One game, it's pretty straightforward for a Belmont to march through, the next time there's an entire portion of the place dedicated to a giant frick-you sawblade trap that envelops an entire tower's worth of structure, or paintings that teleport people inside of them to pocket dimensions, or inexplicably has a mirror hall where reality itself distorts. Symphony of the Night tries to keep itself in line with Rondo for asset reusage and enhancements, and it still has virtually nothing in common with its actual design/layout between the games. There's a reason why the western reboot, moronic though it became, actually got to use "the castle is alive and everchanging" as a yandere plot point without seeming all that out of place versus the "Dracula is actually a good guy that fights the devil" shit.
>it still has virtually nothing in common with its actual design/layout
yes but castlevania at that time predominantly focused on western myth and western horror monster movie icons. It would have been out of place to suddenly feature a Japanese zen garden in draculas castle like that we see in bloodstained despite both being "castles of chaos". bloodstained doesn't have that constraint of being centered around a main underlying theme (that being dracula in castlevania). I love how portrait of ruin had portraits to tie in Egypt though. fantastic stuff.
>8bit area
good stuff
shame it's so ugly
you think so? I think you have to appreciate it on its own terms. the atmospheres were distinct and memorable. I love it.
The visuals are very gamey, and in an era where everything it being bore fest realistic, it ends up looking appealing.
Being ugly has nothing to do with being gamey. 95% of arcade games look better.
Pretty good game though. Bit of a slog compared to SOTN
very amateurish visual design. It has no charm whatsoever. ironically, inti creates made better sidequels than the main game.
How did Inti lost Bloodstained IP anyway? I thought they're going to milk the shit out of this series after the success of CotM but they just gave away IP to someone else
Also their latest weeb CV clone was so lame
the entire kickstarter was actually for igas studio "artplay" and not for the game to be honest. inti was just thrown in there as a tentative collab for the marketing. It turned out artplay didn't have enough skill to pull it off so inti decided to frick off and not be part of a colossal failure. 505 games got involved and you know how that turned out (awful and slow development). Inti came back around after bloodstained "succeeded" for the scraps. I wouldn't really hold my breath for the second game seeing how big of a cluster frick the first game's development was.
>the entire kickstarter was actually for igas studio "artplay"
Iga was an idea guy, turns out he was carried by the konami team, back in konami. I really want an official castlevania metroidvania to btfo bloodstained.
i like the monster designs, but the graphics are really meh, and can get somewhat glitchy
Yeah its bad, but the progression systems (like shard grinding, upgrade systems) are really fleshed out and fun.
the environments manage to look both washed out and oversaturated. I wonder how they managed that
Has nothing on circle of the moon
CotM is fricking garbage.
it is okay except for the homosexual devs who don't like to do work.
I love my wife Bloodless
which color?
Is that Castle Crashers?
I like all of them, but may favorite has to be Purple.
had anyone played zangetsu or bloodless mode? are they any good?
Not being bias, but Bloodless mode is fantastic. Zangetsu mode was meh.
>zangetsu mode was bad
why was it bad when on theory they have a fun character?
zangetsu got what appears to be two better games of his own and he gets to princess carry dominique in one of them
he's doing just fine
but it looks like his game mode in RotN sucks. All he has is a couple of attacks and an Julius Belmont dodge.
he got a teleport with i-frames and you can cancel his empty blade with fierce slash. giving him his QCF effect immediately without the execution barrier. the ice version is a long-range projectile that does massive damage. he is super strong if you know what you are doing
Zangetsu mode was super disappointing, but Bloodless mode was great.
>Why didn't you buttholes tell me this existed?
We make a thread about Bloodstained every month and it's always discussed in CV threads
You're the butthole, kys.
https://steamcommunity.com/app/692850/discussions/0/5829413872842757361/
the developers are sluggish morons who don't even have a roadmap for the last update. It's been 4 years since the game released and they haven't finished it lol.
So when's the sequel btw? It's been like 5 years right?
see
they'll release the sequel when they run out of money.
back when i played it during the release i was also wondering why nobody talked about it. it's once again just boomers being huge homosexuals and putting Symphony of the Night on a high pedestal. Bloodstained is super fun and got way more options. i lost count of how many times i beat it so far.
also Dominique best girl
>Dominique best girl
she's going to have a classic mode paid DLC. too bad no one's going to play it since the game is dead af.
I am can't wait
did you like the first classic mode?
It's not as good as the curse games, but I liked it.
i wouldve liked it more if it wasnt a literal copy of the first castlevania, literally every single level and most bosses are the same
maaaan. classic mode? i was hoping for another Bloodless mode with her.
the developers also said that she won't be added as a playable character like zangetsu and bloodless though Dominique has a lot of animations to make her into one.
>classic mode?
It's a Simon's Quest clone
Play Bloodless mode
Peak nun
I hope this costume is unlockable in Classic Mode 2.
Bloodstained girls are top tier even though it's mostly just Miriam, Domonique, and Bloodless.
Miriam was a lot better in my eyes when I made her into a redhead in a green dress.
Her original colour scheme just doesn't do it for me.
I just made her a pale goth with the really long Shanoa like hair.
would like to play the coop online mode to see your miriams
I hope Bloodless becomes a reoccurring boss I love her so much.
I'm going to recreate her on my switch version so I can save a screen shot
>I know, that's why I said no
Oh I didn't see that my bad
>I hope Bloodless becomes a reoccurring boss I love her so much.
i hope Todd the demon barber returns, hes a fun character, and i would gladly welcome even more character customization, its easily the best argument in favor of the 3D graphics
Here's my Miriam. It's not my original, but It's the closest I can do on short notice.
It's okay, anon, everybody understands, that Shanoa is a vastly superior protagonist in visual design, so everybody does "Shanoa + various degrer of Miriam".
I tried the other hair styles but I didn't like them
and here's a shitty in game screenshot
cool. appreciate the miriams.
Thanks
No worries, sorry I only had raw data and no screenshots.
I've had the game uninstalled for a while (and on another computer to boot)
But I did save my miriam settings

she looks a bit green, anon. are you sure she's alright?
>i was also wondering why nobody talked about it.
because visually the game looks fricking terrible. old castlevanias are timeless classics visually.
gameplay can be good, but if it looks like a fricking low effort mobile game, im not going to bother talking or playing it that much
well sure. if that's where your priorities are... you will miss a lot of good games that way.
NTA, but if he doesn't like a style, he wouldn't be enjoying a game anyway in majority of cases. Most of time it doesn't worth it to play games, that you MAYBE will like despite external features saying otherwise, especially if you have already played a lot of different games, so chances, that you'll miss a unique experience is pretty low.
yea i think you actually got a point
dawn of sorrow was a tragedy
>there was a secret fight with O.D in the game that I didn't even know
W H A T
I swear I always find more random shit in this game I had no fricking clue existed just by randomly reading up on it, I suck at finding out this stuff just by playing
>rip off clone game
it's literally made by the gay that made castlevania
>Why didn't you buttholes tell me
you must be living under a rock. it is one of the most popular metroidvanias in the last handful of years
>make a 100% rip off clone game
It's produced by IGA and directed by Shutaro (Curry the kid).
Also, frick IGA for taking so long on Ritual of the Night 2. I don't even give a shit about the lewd alternate costumes anymore.
moron
It isn't at the same level as SotN or AOS but damn it scratches that itch pretty well for me. Still need to get through Zangetsu and Bloodless modes.
the spinoff game is better
both 1 and 2
I prefer the nes ripoff graphics to ugly unity engine mobie game crap
>unity engine
worst part is that it's actually made using unreal engine.
CotM1 is unironically one of the best 2D platformers I've ever played
That shitty 3D made me feel sick the 2d was fun as hell
speaking of surprisngly fun clone games
you get to kill death himself
it doesnt get any more fun than that
I prefer it to GoW
>Why didn't you buttholes tell me this existed?
this game was shilled to hell and back when it came out
go back to r*ddit
>to unlock the true ending you need to cut the moon with the moon cutter sword in the not really final boss, got it?
>ok, let's cut the--
>and then you realize that nothing happens until 2/3rds of the boss fight but there's a slow animation to make the moon have a hitbox and by that point in the game you're dealing so much damage that you can easily kill the guy by mistake and trigger the bad ending
It wasn't a bad game but this part really bothered me
I had to lookup cutting the moon to progress at all.
It's not really a ripoff when it was made by the original creator just under a different name
What's your favorite weapon? I really like the guns. At first I didn't really understand the appeal until I actually tried to use different ammos, and now I am an addict.
Is doing a gun run, worth another playthrough?
I like the oracle blade.
CRISSAEGRIM

Because Ganker was busy seething about 3D.
>Start a new file
>type BLOODLESS as name
>still just miriam
wtf how do I play as this b***h I already finished the game as miriam
enter her name in an empty slot on the File Select menu in all caps. you'll hear her voice and you'll get the option to play as her.
I did that, idk why it doesn't work maybe this is and older version of the game or some shit?
If it was a pirated version then chances are that it doesn't have that update.
>Why didn't you buttholes tell me this existed?
I played through it once on release, and I've never touched it since.
I enjoyed my time with it, but while most of SotN is etched deep into my memory, I can barely remember anything about Bloodstained.
I don't remember the names of the characters, I don't remember any of the music, I can just about remember what a few areas looked like, and what maybe two or three of the bosses were. For me, it was fun but forgettable.
Maybe it's just because I'm old.
Because it is forgettable. Igarashi is the director. SotN was only finished by Igarashi, who, technically, was only an assistant of a director. His only memorable game was HoD, which he blatantly almost copied from SotN, "his" igavanias are much weaker in terms of art and sound. And Bloodstained are compilation of "Dawn" dilogy and Portrait, while everything else was to a lesser extent borrowed from other castlevanias.
has this gotten all the kickstarter stretch goals yet?
i havent played it but i was looking forward to a complete release so i held off until all the addons and updates are out.
is it complete yet?
apparently not as in
. they also have a online vs mode update with Miriam mirror matches
the only thing i remember from playing this game is
>ARISE MY SELF AND MY SHADOW
you like kissing floating paintings don't you
Is there a mod that removes all the paypig portraits from the game and replaces them with good art? That shit was really distracting last time I played.
yes it is in nexus mods.
Prince of Persia is new standard of metroidvania.
Thank gods i only play castleroids.
not enough 3d metroidvanias.
the only one that is upcoming i can think of is supraworld.
recently played the shadowman remaster and enjoyed it a lot since i played the original when it came out on pc. and im getting the 3d metroidvania itch.
for now imma try the prime remaster but it looks like there arent that many games that fit the mold.
>prime remaster
prime isn't "primarily" a platformer though. I think you should play dread instead.
i played dread already and i dont define metroidvanias as platformers.
i define them as adventure games with exploration roadbloacks and rpg elements.
I love it and it's fun as frick, but god do I hope they improve the graphics/art style in a future game.
sequel when?
aradia sex
>Check dev blog
>video 5 months ago on how they have some minor content on the way

this should be a crime.
nothing new though. they constantly go radio silent for some months. also there were some rumors about a sequel. they could be pretty busy right now.
God I hate how miriams base design is an inelegant, overdesigned piece of shit.
>five months away from five years since release
>still releasing updates for Ritual of the Night

Because metroidgays got jelaous and doomposted every thread
it's a decent enough game mechanically, but metroidvanias excel in atmosphere, art direction and music which bloodstained fumbles a bit.
I wouldn't call it clone game though.
It's Iga making his own Castlevania, with blackjack, and hookers.
And without the Castlevania license.
Curse of the Moon though yeah that's unabashedly Castlevania III
Curse of the Moon is Castlevania 3 if it was actually good.
yea and sotn is bloodstained rotn if it was actually good.
This was like the most or second most successful kickstarter project at the time it was funded, and was talked about everywhere just like Mighty Number 9 and Yooka Laylee, and of the 3 it was the only good one. Were you living under a rock or something?
All right. Anon. I'm going to give you a game's name. But promise me a thing. Never, and i mean it, NEVER read any dialogue or text in this game. Game looks beautiful (except for some character faces). Soundtrack is incredible. Gameplay is okay. There is even a sequel in the process of creation, that looks even better (save for closeup of faces again). But never. Not even if asked nicely. Not under a gun. Never read anything in this game. Skip all dialogues. Ignore memos. Just pretend, that game would be slightly more cryptic, it will only add up to the atmosphere. DON'T READ A SINGLE WORD. Game's name is Timespinner.
Mechanically it's a solid game that understands the core of Igavanias, especially Order of Ecclesia, at an extremely deep level.
Story is shit like you say. Lots of problems with it.
>Why didn't you buttholes tell me this existed?
ive literally recommended the game at every opportunity and even gifted a copy to my friend and to my brother
the Curse of the Moon games are also great
I just wish the graphics didn't look so cheap.
I loved it but it gets held back severely by its awful visual design
I'm still baffled as to why the textures on the characters are relatively low-rez if they're going to keep focusing attention to them during conversations. Either bump them up for those dialogs, or use 2d art.
Hello? Sequel when?
>dude what if sotn but worse with waifus
Garbage
Here you go, The Lecarde Chronicles were better games, more like old Vania, they are also actually hard and the horror atmosphere is actually good, here's the developer releasing their second professional game, the last one being more contra, there's a demo for this one, it's a return to form.
Lecarde Chronicles 2 is incredible but holy shit it gets hard.
>horror atmosphere
Aside from them being good, this is what surprised me the most about the Lecarde games. Like that painting boss where the ghosts attacking you turn out to have been entombed behind the painting.
>Q1 2024
will there be a new demo in the steam nextfest?
Genuinely why did they not just make it pixelart? Sotns or even aria of sorrows visuals are much better and i‘m sure most would prefer that over the 2.5d abomination. It would also be easier to do surely
>why did they not just make it pixelart?
Iga's studio didn't have the talent so they hired unreal engine schmuck devs to make the game.
Do you really need talented devs to do pixelart in this day and age? The game kitchen is a small indie studio and they made great pixelart for blasphemous
they weren't aiming to go full pixelart. the concept art shows what they were aiming for. It clearly required high effort which neither igas studio or inti creates had expertise in, so they reached a compromise and took the UE gamble which somehow paid off.
Now that I think about it the cat game they're making kinda looks like that if you squint.
Pixel art at the resolution you'd need for Bloodstained takes a lot more effort to animate so 3D models end up being far cheaper.
>100% rip off clone game
of castlevania? Black person, its made frickin Igo, just like the vanias were. You can't rip off yourself.
then he didn't do a pretty good job of copying his own games lol
good game
I'm coming in here to say Curse of the Moon is a masterpiece and Curse of the Moon 2 was diarrhea poopy.
Miriam needs a redesign like Dominique got.
Yes, I'm aware this is essentially "Good Dominique."
Yes, I am implying Evil Miriam needs to properly exist.
Hopefully we get a succubus costume with the paid dlc. I had a piece of art of her fully corrupted and looking like a devil but I can't find it.
this is all the paid costumes
Huh, so looks like some form of Succubus costume is in. Being the shill I am, I'm sure I'll pick these up. I really do adore the game in spite of all of their bullshit.
dragon form when?
>I really do love the original so I'm not sure what I'll do
I'm in the same situation man
Frick yeah, this is exactly the piece I was looking for. Thanks anon.
Posting more rad/sexy art I've collected.
kek I didn't know you were looking for that one you're welcome
Yeah, I think the original concept was of her getting fully corrupted by the crystals or something.
It's honestly a pretty good design
I love watching Ganker lose its absolute shit over every single video game ever made, especially when the games are good.
>games
>good
choose one thing
>see some bloodstained news
>see this thread
>no mention of it
It's just a free outfit, but still.
TUMMY
>an announcement for an update with no release date, which they'll announce in another announcement
we're reaching levels of announcements never thought possible.
I'm seriously fed up with their bullshit. I'm a physical PC backer, so I've been waiting nearly a decade from when I backed to now to get my PC copy shipped. So, I've paid attention to every update they've given and at this point, I assume they're bullshit and tack on at least three months to any goals they set -- not until the actual promised feature is released, but before they address having missed the last goal.
Their communication is absolutely abysmal. They claim, last I heard, that physical backers are still getting their copies but I feel incredibly skeptical. This update SHOULD be everything promised in the Kickstarter, so they should be giving timelines on shipments soon. I doubt it, but that's what should happen.
yea man I feel you. I think people don't pay enough attention to the atrocious shit that artplay and 505 games do with respect to the PR of this game. the callous and sluggish game development with poor communication has been really bothering me since launch. I will definitely not be buying RotN 2 from these guys, I've had enough.
I'll probably pick up the sequel, personally, because honestly I'm extremely happy with the base product. If these were just incremental updates to the game over this period, I'd be chuffed, but they're promised features and are holding up release of a reward for people who backed the game.
I'm hoping they go with a proper publisher relationship partially for this reason. If it is a Kickstarter...frick, I dunno. I really do love the original so I'm not sure what I'll do.
This makes me hesitant to back them when they
inevitably do another kickstarter again
no doubt they will.
publishers actually push devs to finish their work in a timely manner. with a kickstarter, you can take as much time as you want.
>with a kickstarter, you can take as much time as you want.
that's one of the worst things about kickstarter games, 99% backers have too much faith on the devs and don't keep tabs on the devs.
They really shouldnt need to do another kickstarter. Bloodstained sold 2 million copies.
Thats a shit ton of money.
Hopefully they still have a team working on the sequel.
I'm not sure about that, RotN development looked like a total nightmare and KS wasa huge part of that.
they'll tone down the physical rewards this time but they'll go kickstarter as crowdfunding is much less risk for the publisher. 505 games is a really scummy publisher so they'll push artplay for it.
>Ypdate 1.5 coming soon
But WHEN? Just fricking say it already.
>3 months later Iga makes another apology video with no release date in it
cool outfit, shantae is shit btw
honestly Bloodstained is a good example that appearances aren't everything, even if it's so derivative that it feels like it doesn't have much to do on its own.
>appearances aren't everything
appearance actually is very important, consider the hypothetical situation where bloodstained was announced but Iga wasn't involved in it. Most people wouldn't have even tried it assuming it would suck because of how it looks.
Couldnt play more than 10 mins of this side scroll boring Slop
Safe horny as well. Nothing is attractive about htis shit. At least in nier autoamata, you can stare at 2B's butt
>W....WHERE'S MY COOMER TRASH?!?!
Frick off.
>map is 99.40% complete
it's over. I'm sure it's moronic fricking "hidden walls" that break away rooms in the middle of BUTTFRICK NOWHERE that I will never find
So. They're adding outfits?
Is this stuff confirmed to be for free?
Also are these new weapons too?
There's ANOTHER update?
>Is this stuff confirmed to be for free?
only the shantae outfit and another outfit is free. the magical girl, devil and one other outfit is paid.
Shantae gear is free but the rest of them and Classic Mode 2 are paid DLC and have nothing to do with stretch goals. Clearly they're stalling for time, but why? Are they actually waiting for the Switch 2 to come out before they properly reveal RotN2? Would make sense considering every game in the series sold the best on Switch 1 by a large margin.
>Would make sense considering every game in the series sold the best on Switch 1 by a large margin.
source?
https://nintendoeverything.com/bloodstained-ritual-of-the-night-creator-says-sales-on-switch-were-well-above-expectations/
but it says one million copies in the article. they announced 5 million copies last year so one can't extrapolate the sales numbers to still say that switch sold more copies.
>they announced 5 million copies last year
It was two million.
my bad.
I'm not a salesgay
How good/bad is that considering the size of the company and the genre?
company was created with the kickstarter cash. it's their first game and lot of sketchy shit went on during the kickstarter. the genre is solid though.
>Shantae gear is free but the rest of them and Classic Mode 2 are paid DLC
So I get the costumes alongside Classic Mode 2? Because I am getting RotN; Simon's Quest without a doubt.
they could possibly be separate DLCs since it says paid cosmetics and paid classic mode 2.
If I remember right they said each bit of paid DLC is a separate pack.
how could they possibly sell paid cosmetics to a game which is at the end of its lifecycle? I mean shouldn't those be one of the earlier dlcs to make more money?
This is suspiciously happening everywhere so a Switch 2 (or even a death of the Switch…) can’t be far off. The Coming Soon section of the eshop is also suspiciously barren.
They should really stop working on it so they can make a goddamn sequel, and not promise 5 years plus of extra content nobody cares about.
Why do everyone compare Bloodstained to SotN when it's so much more like the Sorrow games? It's even closer to Portrait or Ecclesia than it is to SotN.
But every time RotN is up for discussion, there are tons of people who talk about it as if it's mirroring SotN first and foremost.
Why is this?
SotN is the big one. It's very obviously Sorrow 3, but SotN is a bigger deal to the general public.
SotN basically ended up being "the Metroidvania game" despite titles existing before it like Ufouria technically doing the formula, so it effectively became the codifier that everyone uses for comparison and contrast, the step after Metroid itself "created" the platformer exploratory genre in the first place. When people talk about Castlevania Metroidvanias, SotN is the first to come to mind for everyone that wasn't given personal experiences with later entries they remember first.
Personally I was a Portrait of Ruin gay as my introduction to the series, so that's my primary experience, but Symphony is always the one that gets talked about by legacy.
Controls are as floaty as SotN's and the castle takes the most ques from it as well.
RotN is a Sorrow game because all of them are Igarashi's games. But SotN was a) first actually known castleroid, b) was only co-designed by Igarashi (who was told to finish it), c) because of previous reason is the game Igarashi wants to surpass as a director of his own games, d) is very stylish both visually and musically.
Igarashi has tried to pull "i can do my own SotN" once with HoD, pulled it (in my opinion) way too good, has got butthurted over that and has went doing his igavanias. Therefore every igavania is automatically compared with SotN, which is being held as a superior media product (as in "sum of its parts is greater, that its parts").
AoS and DoS > sotn
rip off of what?
I need to replay this on pc. I played the Switch version years ago and it was crashing like crazy. Now would be a good time to play since I recently replayed Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth.
Same situation as you except I already did two replays on PC in like November, had a blast but a bit too burnt out to try the other characters and modes. Sampled Classic mode a bit and it feels great.
because you're a newbie who apparently missed the whole "oh shit it's an igavania kickstarter" turn into "oh shit all these kickstarters are scams" turn into "oh shit this game is actually not terrible" rollercoaster.
Is Iga's backpack worthwhile?
>no inverted castle
Inverted castle was shitty padding, also you get an entire ability to invert whenever.
The food and side quests trigger my autism and are really bad in that they give items really bad for the time or really good and it makes me feel like that bc i have the quests they should be achievable but sometimes they aren't so often you get a quest for a sweet item but the quest isn't completable and when it finally is it is obsolete. Also the cooking is ultra tedious. All of this made me drop the game. As a whole though it's fine. Metroidvania at home basically. Visually it's hideous.
I want to frick Dominique so bad, I hope she comes back
I can fix her
She'll be back in CotM3.
She's getting a whole classic mode for herself based on Simon's Quest.
I find it unthinkable that Curse of the Moon wasn't the main game. It was really fun and had great graphics and music.
The main game was some horrendous-looking soulless slop.
Typical boomer post. Feel free to ignore, he'll be dead of diabeetus soon anyway.
I'm a literal 30 year old boomer, but I'm not American.
No aesthetic will ever top pixel art in video games.
He's absolutely right. 3D was the end of soul in video games. Pixels are how games should only be done, forever.
We tried to tell you but you were too busy being a homosexual playing PALworld
>create sotn
>then make this game
>moron online says you're ripping off your own game
I liked it. Played through it three times.
Beat sotn three days ago. Loved that too. Though honestly i was kind of a gay for not playing it earlier. Using crissagrim was so much fricking fun. Two of them dropped for me while i wasnt even farming, really incredibly lucky.
I want to play more castlevania games too. Dredged up my aria of sorrow save from years ago and im only level 30 something so ive probably not beaten the game, the last boss i remember beating was legion so idk how far i have to go.
great game ruined because the shitch holding the devs back
I like the Bloodstained games but I really don't like most of the boss designs. The only boss designs I really liked were Bloodless, Vepar, and Titankhamun.
The Curse of the Moon games have some stellar boss designs.
Hopefully RotN2 will have some too.
Maybe it's because I'm comparing them to the Castlveania games, but I found the Bloodstained designs to be overdesigned like Gladiator Dozer and Bathin.
>liked Titankhamun
A braver man than most.
cotm gets jerked off way too hard sure bloodstained is ugly but that doesn't make cotm a visual spectacle
i remember being interested in this game, but looking at it now goddamn is it ugly
>rip off
Igarashi literally is responsible for Symphony of the Night and all the following Castlevania games in that style.
When is her mode?!
Is there an uncensored version of this? Oh, and um it should be soon anon.
No
https://files.catbox.moe/l74z5a.jpeg
I have that one. I was talking about this one
.
I hope scathegrapes makes more Bloodstained art they were good
I know, that's why I said no. I didn't know you had that one
Surely RotN2 will have her. Right?
I know she was a CotM2 concept. But still.
She was better than the heckirino dog. Frick Hachi.
I'll excuse the dog since it has a train styled mech suit.
But I still would have easily preferred the sexy mermaid golem master.
?si=Gtr7Qg3Vw6cGbnTt&t=115
How can you not like this guy?
Aradia crossover when?
Yeah, not my favorite style but all of it's lots of fun.
Frick off
This game used to get the most unhinged butthurt on Ganker now it's like 90% favorable replies, what happened
>This game used to get the most unhinged butthurt on Ganker
Most of the threads even during the backer demo days were positive. It was shit on by shitposters that kept worshipping the shitty /d/ H-game and how the dev is "based" unlike IGA which delayed the game many times and cancelled the handheld ports.
>kept worshipping the shitty /d/ H-game
Which is especially moronic given that Aradia is, canonically, Miriam's girlfriend.
Most of the butthurt was from people who didn't actually care about the game and just wanted to shit on other people having a good time. The rest was people booty blasted about the graphics, when the whole reason the game is good is that it feels like the older IGAvanias.
People who were interested in the game to have a successor to SotN and the DS games are the only ones who care enough to post now.
>This game used to get the most unhinged butthurt on Ganker
I thinks the hate is mostly from hollow Black folk. They do it in every metroidvania thread.
It has been nice having them slowly drop off and quiet down, especially as Silksong continues to languish in development hell.
Hollow Knight was alright but its fans can be insufferable, or at least the shitposters who pose as them are.
Shame there are no outfits for Miriam. Something you would expect from such game with sexo MC
Game would have been perfect if she had interchangeable costumes.
What was your favorite Curse of the Moon stage? For me it was Blasphemy Unto Heaven.
Blessed thread
