That’s a fair criticism for the first part. The second is still about 40 hours if you only do the main quest. If you think that all of the characters are padding/filler then you didn’t get FF to begin with.

I got FFVII when VIII got released and I liked it quite a bit, it was the very first JRPG I tried, but I cannot go and pretend like it was a masterpiece at all in regards to the story.

I'll agree with the some ups some downs idea. I liked the Remake's version of the boss battle music as the Airbuster theme with the choir. But some stuff like the Bombing Mission and the base battle theme were like bad covers. I can't speak on Rebirth because it hasn't come out yet, but I will when it gets released.
