My first FPS games were Doom, Heretic, HeXen, Wolfenstein, and so forth. Halo:CE was a legit great game. It had fun split screen co-op mode and LAN infrastructure built in for multiplayer. What wasn't to like? What were you playing instead at the time?
See pic rel
People who played doom and quake shouldn't even be alive anymore don't bother us because all your friends are dead and you are bitter and alone
I played doom and quake and I still do and I am still alive and my buddies and I still get together to do some zandronum and yes it is based
doble fixed
>He wasn't here for the constant barrage of shitflinging Quakegays were on all last year...
Who gets on this hell hole to talk about quake?
They don't, they get on here to throw shit the same way Fallout 3 fans never have their own threads and then get Mad at the Total Biscuit rant being posted.
See thats your problem
you click on arena shooter threads
I'm thankful for the DOOM bros for showing me their dank WADs. Quirkdom was pretty great and My House was icing on the cake
>Bungie had an E3 demo for Halo only 2 years after Goldeneye released
Do people really wonder why it was so wildly successful?
Yes. People bought xboxs but there was only 1 ONE game to buy. It was like the PS5 situation of today but with microdick instead of Snoy.
The way it handles vehicles was revolutionary. There are games today that still can’t get it right.
It was a good game, lady boy.
Shit in a consoletards mouth and they love it.
Because it was so kino it tasted just as good coming back up.
you have to be 18 to post here
>good graphics for the time
>amazing soundtrack thanks to martin o'donnell
Simple as
Who cares when multiplayer exists
Two Betrayals was novel for it featuring a large scale conflict between the Covenant and the Flood while Keyes was practically an entirely different level using the same assets.
The Maw had the Warthog Run and the shit engine room section but besides that its the same level.
>the maw
>the more of the same shit
Bravo staten
Jk its fricking kino
>Got bullied by his friends into doing legendary
>Got hardstuck in the Pillar of Autumn room with the staircase and doors that open and fill the room with elites
>Comes to Ganker to try and make people feel as bad as him (Why would they it's a game lmao)
Sasuga Doomlet.
Eh I beat them on legendary after launch but MCC is different, it's some shit to do with tickrates and somehow that means pulse rifles fire fast as frick. I can barely handle heroic now so if your made up shit applies to OP I understand him.
Boom skull trivializes legendary. Beat your way to instant shields too ironicly
Just charge up the stairs, crouch jump onto the landing and zoom directly ahead past them all into the next section
They spent their entire budget on marty
Had an extremely solid basic game play loop and the multi-player was breasts. LAN parties were still common in 01-03 and every on eof them would have multuple full Halo games running at any time.
>make the most revolutionary shooter since doom
>introduce grenade button, melee attack
>introduce regenerating shields
>limit player weapon count to 2
>vehicles with full physics in huge environments
>innovations become so ubiquitous that zoomers now think it's generic
>introduce grenade button, melee attack
>introduce regenerating shields
>limit player weapon count to 2
You're listing them as if those were positives
Put away the tick tock and try to actually read what she's saying, anon.
did you just assume xer gender?
>revolutionary
>innovations
In what way do any of these words connotate something negative, moron?
I can think of many innovations and revolutions that were negative but I don't want to make you look all silly in front of everyone.
>limit player weapon count to 2
Counter Strike
Fun times doing headshot pistol duels with my cousin.
>snoys lament missing out on the absolute golden age that was original xbox for the umpteenth time
you dont know fun
Because it was one of the best couch co-op experiences at the time. Where you even there in those days?
this argument only works with DMC4
It's the same thing actually but at least DMC4 is more fun and it gives you a different character for the run backwards.
Halo didn't make you repeat the entire fricking game
The DMC franchise is dogshit.
MGR and nier are 100x better action games, even ratchet and clank are better action games than devil may shit
people who like console shooters don't exactly have high standards
maybe its because I'm playing it on PC but neither Halo 1 or 2 reach that point where the combat clicks with me
everything is so fricking floaty, some sectiones feel like they go on forever and some enemies just tank shots like its nothing
I get your shielded elite can take several 50 cal rounds to kill but why does it take two shots to kill a basic grunt sometimes? I'm playing on Heroic so I dont want to know what Legendary is like
playing as the arbiter is cool as frick tho, I will give you that
I get that but everyone your going to talk to about it has likely become so proficient in getting headshots that these issues don't matter as much.
They were made in an era where enemies in shooters were designed to take a certain amount of bullets to kill for an easy way to balance difficulty. Different levels of difficulty introduce different enemy spawns, higher difficulties spawn more elite enemies that take more limited resources in a level to kill.
I think CoD was the franchise that really popularized homogeneous enemies that take like shots from any gun.
Dont fall for the BR meme. Duel wielding lets you take down shielded elites like they're paper.
>dual wielding
my favorite shooter fad in the 2000s, why the frick did we ever move away from this?
too complicated for consoletards
Because they cut the damage of the dw weapons in half and you have to drop one if you want to throw a nade or melee.
>Because they cut the damage of the dw weapons in half
that would defeat the purpose of the mechanic completely. but a multiplier like 0.75 makes sense, giving you 1.5 the DPS compared to one gun.
>you have to drop one if you want to throw a nade or melee
for nade yes because shooting the second weapon and using a nade are the same button. but for melee that's just an arbitrary design decision. there's no inherent reason melee drops the second weapon in Halo, the designers just felt like it.
balance gays who dont know how to have fun
Dual wield master race.
fps games are about the combat so it doesn't really matter. They introduced a whole new faction, more vehicles, and you explore new areas even in the levels that are repeated. The Maw can hardly be called a repeat level.
yes, you'll get a bunch of backlash though because Ganker is full of kids that grew up on it now
The Flood did nothing wrong
Forerunners were giant gays
The Forerunners were corrupt caste-obsessed, religiously-minded lunatics on a tier of absolute arrogance and insurmountable hubris.
That Lifeworkers were ranked third under Builders and Miners just says it all. They lost their way and embraced raw materialism over life itself.
That the Forerunners share the same ancestry as humanity just shows how “altered” and “off the path” they became in comparison to humans.
Probably why the Precursors favored humans over the Forerunner. The Forerunner were less human by that point. Humans stayed… human.
>343 shit
>434 lore
Get out
Humans are forerunner, not Forerunner. Get over it.
No
Yes
whatever that means.
I still cant believe they let a forum janny retcon the biggest twist in the series into
>ackshually theyre just more ayys
Why is nu Ganker anti Halo CE? This board always loved it.
They're zoomer homosexuals
>this universally beloved series is actually… LE BAD
get a grip
cuz its good, homie. get over ot
Because back then people weren't afraid to have fun and always looking for something to act like a demented moron over.
You're actually completely wrong, there are a couple of backtrack missions after the flood escapes, and those are all very different due to the introduction of the flood.
The flaws in Halo CE are in the design for the campaign, and that's because they were breaking new ground in a big push to give it a campaign. CE was originally just meant to be about multiplayer, and it did that incredibly well for its day. The only vs shooter that compared before that was conkers bad fur day in the war vs, golden eye was fun, but the N64 controller just didn't give it much hope. Conkers was kino, even with the N64 controller somehow, idk what kind of black magic programming that took. Halo CE is a huge name in FPS pioneers, not "the oringinal", pretty sure that's quake for vs, but Halo CE and CS were probably the longest lived, i remember booting up CE about a year before MCC dropped, it was still active.
>CE was originally just meant to be about multiplayer
The multiplayer was added by like one guy at the last moment, literally days before development had to be ceased for disk manufacturing to begin.
Not so fast
Nice shop bro
more like gaylo lmoa
Because it was fun
Even when the second half of the game is just the first half in reverse, the level design is still better than Halo 2's campaign. All that game has going for it is the relatively better writing and great music, everything about its gameplay is really mediocre and overrated.
I still contest that the Arbiter levels play a lot better if your treat them as a stealth shooter.
I like the variety of 2's levels. Gameplay is good.
>variety
What variety? It's all the same. Look at outskirts.
>follow tight corridors into medium sized area
>forced to sit there and fight off endless waves
>no checkpoints until the end so you're stuck there over and over if you die
>finally some asshat on the comms says you can move forward
>follow tight corridors into medium sized area
On top of that half the weapons feel like ass even if you aren't playing legendary. The pistol is a dud, the shotgun has no range, the sentinel beam should be renamed the tickle beam, dual wielding is cool but the increased spread and reload times are ridiculous. New covenenant weapons are just reskins - carbine/BR, beam rifle/sniper rifle, brute plasma rifle.
The first level has you fighting outside a space station while it's moving up and down. There's lots of cool setpieces and unique moments in the levels. You're just a partypooper.
The first level, you mean the one with several rooms where you have to sit there as more and more enemies endlessly pour out of the landing pods? When those same entry pods in the first game gave you a set number of well placed enemies that you could quickly kill and move on at a nice pace? That's a perfect example of Halo 2's level design compared to CE.
At least in CE everything opened up in the second level and they gave you a warthog to complete it in the order you liked. In Halo 2 the second level is Outskirts, and like I said in the last post it plays the exact fricking same as Cairo Station with corridors and wave defense to pad out their "setpieces."
What the hell is so wrong with corridors in a first person shooter? Halo CE has em. Lots of em.
>pistol is a dud
The BR is the pistol
>the shotgun has no range
fine
>the sentinel beam should be renamed the tickle beam
Ok and CE didn't have a sentinel beam so it's still better than nothing.
>dual wielding is cool but the increased spread and reload times are ridiculous
Not any more spread than the AR had and two smg's or smg+plasma rifle is way more effective than it ever was.
>New covenenant weapons are just reskins
brute shot. Beam rifle is smartly different enough in use and function while still being a sniper rifle. Great design.
>Story is cool and the reused levels are pretty much all changed in some interesting way.
Pirated this and played with friends in class on the shitty school laptops back in the day
