I'm looking at Summoner and the rotation is great at a base level.
The problem is there's no incentive do to well in the Egi phase that will give you something in the Bahamut/Phoenix phase.
There needs to be something in XIV where attacks have some sort of incentive behind it other than damage output.
The only thing I can think of is a stagger or weakness system. You need something where you're accumulating points (Melee parallel would be hitting positionals) to lead into an optimised burst phase as a reward.

Having the three Egi choices in Savage really shines when you're moving.
It's great to be able to think, "I'm dodging AoEs for 15 seconds here, let's go with Garuda", simple as it sounds.
RPR is sort of the same way because you can mold your rotation to the fight and initiate your positionals at different points by spending gauge...you can even shift your 1 minute enshroud around too
Other jobs force you to use your stuff on CD in a rigid way that adds the complexity of fitting it into a mechanic and whatnot

There was nothing difficult about the Bozja FATEs since it's 95% personal mechanics which will two shot without assistance. Only other thing I can think of is shit like people not hitting mines on the one FATE which can cause a wipe, or the one that absolutely needs a tank (or properly spec'd DPS) to handle a shitton of adds without dying. I don't mind team jump rope, but I absolutely abhor Trio mechanics where the boss fricks off for 30 seconds.
I can't say I'm a fan of mechanics where the boss jumps away for you to solve a puzzle either, it's lazy
I think if it's used in moderation and if it's used fittingly like in P8S with High Concept, it can be good

Jump rope mechanics need to leave from MMOs.
Bojza has some of the best fights in the game because they're fast, difficult and you immediately read the mechanics.
MMO development has the idea that they need to timegate 10 minutes of content to 2 hours by throwing out obtuse mechanics that can be solved by posting a macro and assigning a number and position in a chat box. That's dated design.
Instead they need to follow the bullet hell fomula for boss fights where the challenge is immediate and not gate kept by obtuse positional safezones and debuffs.
I mean, something like the Nier raids did this because Yoko Taro throws in random shit like running down a hall filled with bullets, suddenly entering a shoot-em-up minigame, and so forth. Hell, one can say the rest of the game follows the ruleset of immediately being introduced to attacks, and then the bosses keep mixing it up and amping the challenge on top until they die or enrage. It's just for some reason once you enter the hardcore content, the game takes on an entirely different design philosophy and now you might as well be playing someone else's game they laid out for you.
I don't care much for hardcore raids or anything but once they get "solved", I don't care for anyone else completing them. You didn't figure that garbage out, you just regurgitated what someone else did.

Every fight nowadays has the boss standing in the middle of the arena vomiting mechanics. I fricking hate it.
I’m 100% sure this is why hitboxes are so big and positionals are all but gone.
They don’t want players to complain about the boss being impossible to hit because its ass is glued to the center. So instead of making it so that tanks have to position the boss, they just nerf the gameplay.
I just completed Zeromus last night, normal version, and even there I realize nearly every single one of its mechanics is designed in a way that besides whoever is targeted by the moving gravity bomb, everything allows for people to stick in wall boss hitbox range so there's never any DPS downtime. Maybe the savage version changes this, but it's just kinda funny how despite this being the motherfricking final boss of an entire arc, the only surprising thing was the black hole+beam combo.
Because it's Normal, at least play Ex before giving an opinion.

They don't even do tank swaps anymore. The boss "mechanics" are a completely separate game from what we have been doing with our characters for 90% of playtime, so learning your job's abilities beyond your static, rigid rotation memorization is completely worthless.
They should give us tools and let us figure out how to use them, not a script to memorize.
tank swaps are a dumb way but borderline the only way to moment-to-moment justify there being two tanks, OT is purely there as insurance against MT death tbh

Intuitive would mean reactionary, which means making <cast bars> long enough to react to, which in turn means slower fights that feel more like a tutorial than anything.
I don't know how you can really get much slower than P9S. I actually fell asleep once during it because it takes so long for mechanics to happen.

Not really. I don't think I've been impressed with a dungeon boss since SB. The first boss of Qitana Ravel gave me some hope since it's just Kefka's F3 and F4 at a much slower pace, but they really stop trying with mechanics overall since 5.4.

Don't you know? Nothing is hard if you just do it right. Tanks never had to worry about aggro as long as they did everything right and the dps all did everything the right way and they all used all their abilities appropriately. Just like TOP isn't hard as long as you just do everything right.
Aggro isn't cool in XIV or MMOs in general.
Look at what it really means to lose aggro in XIV. It's literally watching a number change, then watching the boss awkwardly pace over to another target and punch it for 45,000 damage, watch that player die, then immediately get aggro back.
Instead, aggro should be a gauge or something. Something where it's not immediate, the tank always has control but the way the Tank and party are building it up and managing that gauge is more important.
So I would rather an Aggression Bar instead of traditional aggro.
I disagree, I think you're only looking at it in the form of high end, high penalty content. Yes, having a tank not keep aggro so the big boss just insta kills another player is shit, but in terms of other content or bosses with larger margin of error, aggro is a good mechanic. It gives the healer a better chance for a less routine experience.
The implementation of aggro isn't good. Basically you always want focus on the tank anyway so what's the difference?
Aggro should instead dictate things like how fast the boss is willing to chase the tank, how much it notices party members casting, how far it wants to move.
A simple mechanic is the boss usually staying still, but a filled main aggro gauge would provoke the boss the chase the tank down.
That's where a singular Aggro Gauge that all jobs can contribute to in different ways would benefit the combat.
I agree the implementation of aggro isn't good, but I don't think your suggestion would be a good fit as a broad implementation. It'd be neat for a boss gimick though.
Make aggro a more active aspect for everyone to manage and it'd be enjoyable.

They become static and borderline irrelevant after the beginning of ShB. Their treatment in EW was such an enormous disappointment for me (and no, I'm not a doomposter, I think EW still had a great MSQ).
Endwalker is what made me lose the ability to find this game's world or characters immersive.
So you're going to get to watch that in real time.
Ahh it's fine walking up the stairs with them at the end. Very emotional and all that.
I don't necessarily think you need to kill characters off constantly but I'm disappointed EW didn't really have any repercussions or require any real sacrifice. The rest of the world doesn't know it happened and every character is still happy and fine, it almost feels like nothing happened. If you're going to take the story to such ridiculous (classic final fantasy ending) places for it's finale I'd expect more long lasting effects to be present in the setting, I really thought they'd separate the 7.0 and beyond arc from the previous one but that didn't happen.

My complaint for EW is ultimately that it played it too safe. I don't need to see the scions die, but the writers aren't even confident enough to have them leave, not even for a patch cycle. If they're so hellbent of having them around, then they really need to give some of them something to do. The twins are the best example, with Alphinaud being the exact same character since the end of HW, even though he's clearly supposed to mirror his sister in terms of growth and development. Alisaie, while better simply due to actually having something to do during SB and ShB, desperately needs some kind of new stepping stone too. And before we forget, these problems are MUCH worse for the rest of the Scions, with the only notable exceptions being Urianger and Tataru, who fulfilled their respective roles in every single expansion so far without being sidelined as mere caricatures (like what happened to Estinien in EW).

healing in HW was literally perfect. You had cleric stance, THREE (3) dots, actually had to make decisions on whether to burn ogcds on damage or healing, time your hots/mitigation properly during tank pulls to not steal aggro, etc. Made everything so much more dynamic and engaging
cleric stance only makes sense to me for scholar since it's a rough approximation of light/dark arts imo, should've kept it for scholar and nixed it for every other healer
WHM is literally a cleric, so it worked fine with it too. Plus it synergized with Assize, so you had to decide whether to use it for heals or for damage
I've never liked or cared about cleric stance, T B H, sb generally was more enjoyable, but removed a lot of skills I liked, the dots and disable on ast mostly.

I've played XI for 20 years and still don't know Absolute Virtue's lore. But basically the zone he's in used to be the Zilart capital where they held the Fifth Mothercrystal. 10,000 years ago when they were preparing the rejoining, a hero and Bahamut attacked the capital to try and stop it and activated the city's defense mechanism, which was to teleport itself inside the Mothercrystal. However, the city teleporting inside the Mothercrystal included the Mothercrystal itself, causing a spacetime paradox as the Mothercrystal collapsed inward.
Trapped in a paradox space for 10,000 years, the Zilart began to worship Promathia and began filling the growing darkness in their souls into a giant vat kinda like Prince of Darkness if you've ever seen that. In the meanwhile, they also tried to make artificial bodies for themselves using bio-magitek which was also used to create Ultima and Omega. This bio-magitek resulted in all sorts of weird forms such as the Aern (what Absolute Virtue is). Eventually the Zilart were there so long they completely lost their minds and forgot who they were and what they were doing. The only remnants are pieces of their souls floating throughout the zone that will give you little pieces of the story.
What is Absolute Virtue and why was he locked away? I couldn't tell you. Maybe an anti-Promathia created from excess light left behind after they poured all their darkness away? That'd be my first guess.
I don't think AV is actually explained in XI beyond the obvious that he's one of the Aern. I went back to check the FF Fandom wiki which has AV's full battle-script documented but has absolutely nothing on who he was or what significance he has. It also has it pretty well documented on how buttfrick awful the developers were about AV being the devs' golden boy they wouldn't allow to be defeated, too, which is funny.

AVs use by itself is disappointing more so that it's an Aern and not necessarily carrying the name Absolute Virtue, them also using other models from Lumoria as basic sea creatures just because they look like squid is arguably far more egregious. They really don't seem to put any thought as to what they copy over beyond what it looks like on a surface level, even then they don't touch up or re-skin anything to help with the conversion.

private servers are free but emulate the old design of the game which is time and multiplayer intensive, retail costs money but the entire game has been hit with mega QoL and can be played solo from level 1 up through the first few tiers of endgame content.

If you want to experience the story then the best way is retail. It's not free but you get a free month with the game and then they do at least two free periods per year during which it's really easy to just do an expansion. Yoshida hinted at something XI related at PAX a few months ago, so stay tuned for maybe a combined subscription.

I've done all the stuff you can do besides the last master trial they just put out. You need windower4 for retail at a minimum. You will also want some plugins, namely Config to lock the game at 60fps and XIcamera to zoom out. After that you are free to use whatever you want.
The endgame is the most mind numblngly boring grind ever with master levels which will take you months if not a year before you have to worry about.

If you just want the story and NOTHING ELSE just retail or youtube. Dont go retail if you want to have fun

Green Mage exists in precisely one game and it's cobbled together out of buffs and debuffs that would normally be in other jobs' spell lists. It doesn't have a strong identity, a strong visual identity (white robes with red triangle trim, hat + blue coat or robe + shadow face), nor is it particularly strong in combat.
the only thing i look out the most from GRM is because they can use mace as their weapon in the FFTA2

Yeah, just make it the old SMN gameplay but expanded. Their Bane can be a combo of Oil + some fire spell that causes an explosion and spreads the other effects. Also give them Protect and Shell as party shields.

The old SMN's problem was that it was a DoT job wearing Summoner's skin. A new DoT job that is, up front, about DoTs and not wearing a legacy job's skin when that legacy job has such a defined and specific purpose and skill-set (it fricking summons big flashy spirit-monsters) will go over way better.
