Take picrel game. Great atmosphere, ok gameplay, music. Degeneracy is already a part of the setting, but characters' sexual deviations (the motive of the story btw) aren't attributed to that. Though, it is implied that Elizabeth Sobek was a lesbian and Aloy shares her genetic code for about 98% percent, which means she is also gay. But doesn't care for romantic relationships in the main plot.
The real problem comes from either pandering, where you can tell a character just has all these check marks to do before they become the true embodiment of 'le woke'.
But I think the worse problem is people fetishizing relationships with ships as well as writers not writing romances or relationships anymore. Sure you can go to any random on the street in real life and they could be straight or gay, but the difference is that's some random who you'll never meet again vs a character they want you to grow attached to.
