When did the trend to portray all male elves as homosexual start? Were it the Jackson movies where they were all androgynous prancing gays? Or maybe D&D with their stat penalties for the elves that make them into girly wimps?

1. Don't care
2. Didn't Ask
3. Twink thighs save lives.
That's just your opinion, man. Think of all the straight people who could've liked male elves, but are forever tarnished with the homosexual stereotype now.
Of course this thread starts with some garbage anime breasts instead of an actual homosexual elf.
I can't even count that many confirmed homosexual male elves that aren't from some shitty bioware game. You may point at Forgotten Realms or some other sexually deviant setting that has even worse stuff for other races as well.
Jackson movies certainly didn't help, but they were even less prancing than in the books. More stoic and cold whereas in the LotR books they are shown to be more cheerful. It's Tolkiens own fault, even Legolas own description suffers for it, although he might seem to have regretted it with that letter describing what a hardened muscly guy he was.
D&D stat penalties are just a lack of constitution, you can still push their strength to the maximum without problem.
The homosexual thing is caring what anyone thinks instead of playing what you like. It's their own fault. If you want to fix this perception, then play hetero elves, write hetero elves, create hetero elves.
It can't be fixed now. Homosexuality is now as central to the male elf identity as elf ears. It's more fruitful to seek ways to incorporate it into your worldbuilding.
Post examples.
You're the biggest example.
I'm neither a game nor a setting.
Boy, this will be a great thread.
You're the gayest man who ever lived and you're obsessed with male elves.
So it's not even a thing.
Cool.
Every elf is this movie. Not iconic but worth watching just for the glue huffing insanity of it all.
It's actually a great movie. I loved it.
I recommend this movie with the question “do you like dick jokes and Conan?” It’s actually good in a turn your brain off sort of way. I go back and watch it every so often if I want a laugh.
>and Conan
Okay, so it's no wonder people don't like it after you introduce it like that, it's got nothing of Conan in it. It's a parody of power metal and D&D.
That’s fair. I mostly just say Conan because barbarians but yeah it’s really just power metal album covers in fantasy format.
Yeah, but calling something a 'power metal album cover' outs you as being 40 years old.
What the frick is an album cover, lol.
Don't try to pretend to be an annoying zoomer, grandpa, I'm 25 and I can't imagine anyone who doesn't know what an album cover is.
The things people see every day when they go on Spotify, you stupid frick.
Oh you mean the thumbnail
It's so bizarre how this funny little movie is almost completely unknown, yet I see cinema's hottest garbage (You Highness) mentioned here every now and then. I guess it's true about Ganker being the cesspit of the Internet.
>It can't be fixed now. Homosexuality is now as central to the male elf identity as elf ears. It's more fruitful to seek ways to incorporate it into your worldbuilding.
>fruitful
lmaoooo
Because morons think "pretty guy = gay and effeminate", along with "not wearing all black/dark brown = homosexual"
If you think the Landsknechts didn't bang each other in the ass on their campaigns, you're ridiculous.
What do you think Trosses are for?
And here, Exhibit A
acts of sodomy = being a gay
where generally punished by death in landknecht companies
there where also a very very large amount of prostitutes and assorted female hangers-on
you are just projecting your own modern homosexualry on the past
>acts of sodomy = being a gay
Cope of the day
>responds with Soi Wars homosexualry
Thanks for making his point for him, Mousecuck.
I have many more variants of this template. There are so many idiots on Ganker that you need three to four variants of this picture for every thread.
>I post response image so I win
You seem to be under the mistaken assumption that I was competing with you, not making fun of your stupidity.
Gib me dark eldar
404 not found
You don't need to find 404 of them anon, just one will work.
>proves his point with a cope post
well sodomy was the common term for being a gay until somewhere in the second half of the 20th century
you position in society is not normal but a historical anomaly
>until somewhere in the second half of the 20th century
So until gays began to dictate to us how we're allowed to call them?
Getting a bj from a woman is sodomy. Masturbation is sodomy. Sodomy has nothing to do with being a gay. Sure all gays are sodomites but not all sodomites are gays.
>where generally punished by death in landknecht companies
[citation needed]
they literally brought a bunch of prostitutes and their gfs/wives/children with them on campaigns
homosexuals projecting their homosexualry, like clockwork.
How about you try being normal?
So it's from Reddit?
Assuming this isn't just a shitpost, your problem is that you are responding to a phantom culture.
A phantom culture is is when a community of people acts like something is commonplace and bases all of their reactions and assumptions and plans on the fact that this thing is actually very common, when in fact it basically never happens at all.
If you based what you know of TTRPGS *entirely* on what /tg/ says on this board, you'd think that all males elves are gay, all dwarves as elf-hating macho men, no one in the history of the world has ever run a campaign where the big villain WASN'T a lich, wizards start at level 20 and every table runs ERP rules so the human fighter can just dick everything they see into submission.
Absolutely none of this is true. Its just whatever people on /tg/ find appealing to talk about, despite being niche cases, and it creating a self-feeding loop of other people assuming everyone else is doing it and joining in despite it never fricking happening in any real games.
To put it another way: everyone agrees that saving the princess is cliched bullshit, right? Its so overdone. Except, have you *ever actually saved the princess*, anon? Has it ever even come up? The answer is no, it basically never happens. Maybe 5 people on this board have actually had a save the princess quest in any of their campaigns, because everyone else is reacting to the fact that is 'overdone' and thus never doing it themselves.
There's no phantom culture - all culture is phantom. All culture is made up and only exists in people's heads. Something that's written down in a book that nobody has read is far less valid than something that exists in everybody's head, but doesn't come from any book. We can't see the world objectively and it's no use pretending that we can.
Hard disagree, if the culture becomes completely detached from any sense of reality then all of its choices will be made on false pretenses, and only harm can result.
If you are not concerned with what is really happening, only with the comforting story, you are at the mercy of those who DO know the truth and are the ones telling you the story.
That has never stopped human culture from being completely detached from reality. Only the degree of detachment matters. Frankly, the modern culture is no less detached from reality than the climate of mass psychopathy before WWII.
His point is that the culture you attack simply doesn’t exist. You’re attacking a large, cohesive group where there is none. It’s like condemning the waffle pissing culture and wondering when pissing on waffles started. You’re attacking nobody and nothing and insinuating that ideas are widespread when they really aren’t.
Well then, in this case his point is bullshit and I shouldn't have replied at all.
>phantom culture
Good descriptor, I like it.
this is not widespread outside of this board
this guy gets it
please check things exist before you get mad at them
"Elfin" means "dainty". Elves being effeminate has been built into the English language since well before Tolkien was around to write about them.
The more I read about Tolkien, the more I'm convinced that he was in private exactly the kind of buffoon who would shitpost on /tg/ in 2022.
Tolkien: "I loathe Shakespearean Elves with some intensity"
Shakespeare: make elves tall, beautiful and majestic, just like in Tolkien's own books.
That descriptor comes from elves that are not effeminate, but rather elves that are childlike. Eternal Youth used to mean just that, YOUTH. They stayed YOUNG forever, and young didn't mean 'early 20s' because thats a grown ass man.
I'm nor sure about that one, chielf. homosexual elves sound much more respectable than elves with arrested development. Seems that you just wrecked your case even more.
What case, anon? I'm not putting forward a theory or crafting a new setting I would like to be true, This is fricking history context.
You go back to the old faerie stories and things like A Midsummer Night's Dream, and what you find is that elves and faeries were dangerously childlike. They are driven by extremes of emotion, fricking with the lives of mortals based on nothing more than whimsical amusement or equally whimsical anger. No one was interested in appealing to your 21st century notions of stoic elvish badasses, your opinion didn't (and still doesn't) matter to them.
There's nothing folkloric about A Midsummer Night's Dream, a play written by a Renaissance poet who knew Greek folklore better than that of his own. Go back to the original legends, and elves are just semi-wild spirits with no semblance of society.
Sure, but that's not the point. The traditional associations of the word lend themselves to interpretation as feminine, and no amount of Tolkien whining about, "No but my elves are big and manly"was ever going to change that.
Tolkien
>No but my elves are big and manly
Also Tolkien
>Creates Legolas the prancing bowtwink
Try the wiener, Albert. It's a delicacy, and you know where it's been.
People who like male elves are all gay, so the association stuck.
like all Ganker memes it started as a joke then people actually took it seriously when normalgays found out
It was very much a thing in the 90's when not even Ganker, the internet didn't exist. It must've been a thing even earlier, I don't remember. Stop thinking that the universe revolves around Ganker.
No, it was a *joke* in the 90s. It wasn't until later that people started acting like this was somehow the default.
A joke isn't funny when it doesn't poke fun at the reality.
I never said it was a funny joke.
It still is. But okay, let me correct myself: a joke isn't created in the first place when it's completely detached from the reality.
Still waiting for someone to namedrop all these supposed gay elves.
Ever hear of 'surreal humour'?
Well, how, /tg/?
Muh hooman dike homosexuals have been an absolute blight on elf threads.
Aww how cute, noldortard went into a full hysteria mode. Try not to electrocute yourself when you're drooling on the keyboard.
Take your meds noldorgay-gay
You sit in your cave and wait for naked human paladins to start coming to you. It doesn't take long.
Shill your garbage somewhere else.
Seethe.
>When did the trend to portray all male elves as homosexual start?
Nowhere. This isn't a trend that exists anywhere.
They don't anon, you're thinking of shitty anime because you don't play.
Here comes the schizo-posting.
Here comes the MSPaint
Weak
Pathetic
Dying out (a metaphor of HIV)
Arrogant
Ugly
Noisy
Male elves are the perfect mirror of gays.
Do Elves really?
>not like any elves... lived underground
Do shitposters really?
This is the least elven cave imaginable. Where are the palaces shaped like the statues of naked women?
Huh, reminds me of HoMM5
severe autism
That's literally Suramar.
Why isn't this on Ganker?
This has nothing to do with games.
I wager it would start at around the beginning of the femboy trend.
