on PC you can also get online up and running with a bit of work but there's only like 30 people online at a time during peak hours

IIRC you need a key to play through GWFL, alternatively you could just use the GTA connected client but that's kind of ass from what I've heard. Consoles are still your best bet, series x runs at 60fps but I'm not sure about xbone or playstation.

I still prefer playing this game on PS3 and 360 over PC. Even with all the performance issues and the bad quality (not for me because i have a small TV but it's definitely noticeable on current TVs), it has a charm to it that I can't really appreciate with the PC version.

Like what exactly? I know the soundtrack is intact in the PS3 version and various visual effects were preserved but is there anything else?

        Anonymous

Not much at all really, it's just my personal experience with it. I got a good PC and did play the entire game on there, but I just wasn't feeling the same way. The best option isn't necessarily gonna be everyone's favorite, and I guess this is mine.

The PS3 controller was not great, and is complete trash compared to a 360 controller, but there's something incredibly cozy about GTA's targeting on it.

      Shooting is better with kb/m

Driving and everything else is better with controller

the shooting is lock on based? so what's the problem?

          Anonymous

any shooter is better with kbm, in the case of gta 4 you don't have to use the gears of war cover system at all and just use placement to take cover, makes it much better to play

replayed on PC recently. tried using controller to drive, it sucks. keyboard is perfectly fine for both shooting and driving. did all the content 100% completion no issue, exact same as i've done with all GTA games. only console babbies gimp themselves with a controller on PC.

          Anonymous

having replayed all the 3d gta about a year ago I think you can absolutely use keyboard for driving, especially older ones, but from IV and on controller is best
you just have to get used to the "tank controls", but once you get the hang of it (and a decent car) it's an absolute joy to drive, just switch between controller and kbm

      PC gaming is soulless

      Anonymous

PC as a whole feels lonely compared to console. The PC populous is spread out between so many different games that most games I enjoyed are completely dead now compared to console. Steam profiles are all hidden by default now so even if you go to add someone you meet you don't know what kind of fricking weirdo they are until you add them and their 20sec scroll furry profile shows itself. Back in the day on PSN you only seen an avatar, their achievements, and a short comment. You really didn't get to dox yourself for free on your profile like it's facebook. It was all game related.

I don't want to know what your fetishes are, I want to know what games you play and thats it.

Just lock the framerate to a cinematic 24 fps for the true console experience

      Anonymous

the game on ps3/360 has a completely different aesthetic to PC, same as SA does.
R* tend to go heavy on post processing on consoles and dial it down for PC. the colour filters, timecyc, depth of field, motion blur etc are different on PC. PC has better textures, higher framerate and further draw distance, sharper shadows and traffic density, and these things are what tank the performance because the game isn't multithreaded to cope with that.

you can turn the settings down to console equivalent and get high framerates easily but PC gamers insist on setting the draw distance to 100 (which is roughly 15/100 on console) and then wondering why the single threaded engine cant cope with it

        Anonymous

playing single threaded is like insisting on redlining in 1st gear in your car, so even if you have a shitbox or a testarossa you are gonna have shit performance compared to what you'd normally have?

          yeah exactly

            Anonymous

How much work would it be to convert it to a multithreaded game engine, just curious? would it be literally remaking the game from the ground up or is there any way to convert it?

              Anonymous

it would take a lot of work is all i can say, there hasn't really been any case of a game as recent as GTA4 being rewritten from the ground up or heavily modified like that

                Anonymous

rockstar will probably do it themselves, i really hope once GTA6 comes out they can do their remake projects instead of shitting them out to no name devs.

On PC you can set the option "Defintion" to Off and it will give you the same smeary blur look as well as motion blur when you drive fast.

          >it will give you the same smeary blur look as well as motion blur when you drive fast.
          No, it won't.
It gives you motion blur and depth of field and a vaseline filter, but they are not the same as what is present on console.

        Anonymous

It sucks but its true. GTA IV looks very different on PC and while certain things are definitely improved, other things frick with the aesthetic of the game which makes it feel different.

Isn't on ps3 like 640p with no AA?. homie play it on PC at 4K 60FPS, it's essentially a new game.

ps3 was 720p. they kept that resolution no matter what at the cost of frame rate.

        Anonymous

It was 720p on Xbox 360. For PS3, they had to reduce it to 640p, add in a custom smear to cover the aliasing, and it still didn't perform well. Take off the nostalgia goggles.
