I never look at positive reviews on steam anymore, they're NEVER useful. always some garbage that doesn't apply to the game, a review placed at literally 0.2 hours (playtime less than 15 minutes btw) or something moronic like . who the frick gives a shit about potential when the game sucks now?
negative reviews are the only ones worthwhile. they usually actually review the game and leave criticism/things to keep in mind/what could be better.

        Anonymous

Same here. It's especially bad with games that more recently got popular where half the positive reviews are genuine spam copypastas. It's to a point I'd rather just see checkbox garbage reviews over "lol sex" for the 900th time.
Negative reviews are usually at least somewhat insightful and when they aren't it's usually a moron who's never used a computer before and those are entertaining for a whole different reason.

It's exceptionally good advice. One that carries far more weight than someone who has little experience with the drug and just one of the many potential reasons why a high play time does not disqualify giving a "Not recommended" judgement.

Because that's what it is, not a review. A recommendation. It could be the best game for the past decade but it's shutting down in a day, I wouldn't recommend people purchase it at that point; for instance.

                Is that not good advice?

video games are basically just drugs where the objective is wasting time, if someone wasted thousands of hours on a game then that's proof that it fulfilled it's purpose as a game, even if you write a negative review you already lost, if someone wants to do drugs and sees people doing heroine then he'll think that heroine is a good choice, even if the addicts tell him that it sucks

Reviews are fine, you're just a fricking moron who doesn't understand what the rating Steam displays is. It's just an owner approval rating, which is entirely distinct and different from a review score. It just tells you if the owners are happy with the game they bought or not. You still need to use your brain to filter out games that don't suit your tastes. If I don't like sports games and I know I don't like sports games, I'm not going to buy the latest FIFA or whatever the frick just because 99% of FIFA owners rate it positively.

The worst part is Steam encourages it. Meme reviews were always a thing but not as common, but then they had to add the funny button as well as the shitty reddit award things. They could've nipped it in the bud years ago, now it's completely unavoidable. This is the future they willingly chose for some reason.

Lol, you're right, but in the case of Steam the reviews are often written by children and teenagers, which is why there's so much moronic and annoying stuff with no content. People who buy cars are adults.
In fact, a large part of the Internet's problem is children and teenagers writing their useless opinions (and people around the world whose IQ is too low for them to mature beyond the adolescent stage).

        >who the frick gives a shit about potential when the game sucks now?
That's a shit ton of people on steam. Steam reviews are fricking horrible. you can't leave a bad review for an early access game because "It might get fixed later" or "it has potential". Who the frick cares? IT bad now, the whole point of a review is to say what the current state of the product is, not how you want it to be a year or two from now.

that's always been the case, the winning formula:

        >if early access, skip
        >scroll past all marketing material to the reviews, set filter to negative
        >check a handful of reviews to see if any of the things the consensus are pissed off about even matter to you.

              >public opinions are too easy to sway with marketing or solicitation
true, or the devs removing bad reviews (happened recently with suicide squad I think), but that just introduces a nother skill floor to this b***h of a game trying to know if a game is worthwhile

reviews are almost always worthless. i dont actually even understand why people read reviews, a review has never influenced my purchase decision. all i do is google the game and look at some random gameplay. and steam btw is also very very fricking shit at even this, because every store page lists 3-5 pre rendered cutscenes and hides the actual gameplay. steam just has no worth in the whole process of buying games, they just offer the download button.

Those reviews still server their purpose, they are recommending the game. If you are the type of person who are interested in that type of game, and you see the game has 90% positive reviews even if 90% of the positive reviews have no substance, it's likely a very good game to purchase. Negative reviews are useful for identifying common issues and seeing if those bother you.

If you want an unclaimed teritory it costs 1k influence, teritory claimed by the AI costs 2k. It makes it very difficult if your started teritory doesn't have a good iron deposit or good farming ground.

Ultimately the AI will try to claim you and attack you with 100+ men and you lose the game. Its very, very aggressive (it can claim nearly all the map before you are close to start making claims).

Manor Lords, what a letdown! You'd think a game promising medieval grandeur would deliver, but nah, it's just a mess. First off, the graphics? More like graphics from the Dark Ages! Seriously, did they outsource the design to a bunch of blind monks? And don't even get me started on the gameplay. It's like watching peasants plod through mud - slow, tedious, and utterly soul-crushing. You'd have more fun herding sheep in a rainstorm.

And the controls? Ugh, it's like trying to navigate a labyrinth blindfolded. I spent more time wrestling with the interface than actually enjoying the game. Plus, the AI is about as sharp as a butter knife. I've seen more intelligent behavior from a sack of potatoes.

And let's talk about the bugs. I've encountered more glitches than there are stars in the sky. It's like the developers threw in the towel halfway through and said, "Eh, good enough." Well, newsflash, it's not!

Save your coins, folks. Manor Lords is a medieval mess that's better off gathering dust in the bargain bin.

You can literally watch them do it though. Even regular farming only needs like 2-3 months of work a year. They spend most of their time plowing, then they sow for a bit and then they frick off to do other things while it grows for 9 months.

Steam Reviewers are just as dumb and bad as professional reviewers are except they don't get paid shillbux by publishers like Doritos Pope & his Game Awards show does.
The reality is the best "review" is make a fukken demo and let people play it their own damn self--a practice that fell out when publishers realized if the game was a FAT TURD a demo would reduce sales.

Is crop harvesting bugged? I have 4 roughly .5 morgen sized fields and I walk away with 6 whole fricking wheat. How is that possible? Fertility is just under 30% which isn't good obviously but 6?

      Anonymous

That sounds about right. 30% is very low

      Anonymous

Idk wtf is happening. I guess I was one of the lucky ones which had 50% fertility for basically everything. My first farm was like 1.5 morgen but they only plow 1.0 for some reason. They literally leave the rest untouched. When they harvested the wheat to 55% fertility I only got 16. I did rye earlier and I remember getting like 40 so it might be a wheat thing. I'm still getting the bakery set up but I think bread lasts longer than other food. The initial 10 bread you get lasting for quite a while if those fricking bandits don't steal it.

Plow upgrade is useful because 1 farmer with 1 ox is far more efficient than 1 farmer with 0 ox.
If you have multiple fields, you'll have a horde of farmers go do 3 fields or whatever while 1 guy takes the ox and does the fourth singlehandedly.

It's also pretty dumb to make minimum sizes carrot patches because the yield depends on surface, so he's wasting a ton of labor on multiple families when he could make 1 big carrot patch and have just 1 family take care of it instead.

Peoject zomboid build 41. Rimworld build 18. PUBG was only good in early access and went to shit immediately after full release.

finished gameplay loop, and probably $1/hour content ratio.
you can raise the price as you add more stuff to your game, as long as that ratio (or better) continues to hold true.

at the moment I paid $40AUD and after 5 hours I feel like I've seen the whole game.

Somewhere a lot further along than this. I've got about 7 hours played and there's nothing else to see or do. For $30 ($40 without launch discount), that's not reasonable. A city builder with the longevity of a COD campaign is just inexcusable.

What the hell are you people talking about? There's no way you're reaching anywhere near done with a game at 5-7 hours.
Unless you literally just mean "oh welp I built one of most of the buildings, I'm out of CONTENT". That's just begging for arbitrary locks to draw out playtime rather than wanting a game with proper systems in place to build organically.

          Anonymous

No, I mean I built everything and solved all the problems so now all that is left is capturing more plots and literally doing it over again whilst having to wrangle an absurd self-trade system where it costs the same for a piece of bread as it does for plate armor.
all this while the AI can just capture all the other plots because it has infinite resources/influence.

I can play much simpler games for much longer because they have DEPTH, you don't need "content" if you have depth, which this game does not have (yet, hopefully)

if Im wrong, please tell me how someone can play this game for 5+ hours and still have new experiences?

            Anonymous

Explain right now how you would stretch the abysmally low amount of content and depth in the game right now beyond that amount of play time. Because there's nothing to do and most mechanics and systems are not even available in the game at the moment. There's no build variety, no cosmetic elements, at least half the tech tree is locked, no political systems yet, the AI cheats so it always steamrolls the map with infinite money and troops. All there is to do is build the same mud huts over and over and wrangle with the clumsy economy and trading systems.

The same way every that scale inherently changes every other city builder ever made.
I mean for fricks sake you get people saying this is worse than banished here, a game with almost the exact same combat and even less systems in place than this.

              Anonymous

This is objectively worse than Banished. It's a deeply unfinished clone of it. To claim otherwise is just shilling.

              Anonymous

it doesn't really change that meaningfully with scale though, in city builders you have "is this local area covered by all services" and "can people get/leave here" both of which should scale with population so you have to find new and interesting ways to manage them, especially transport as that actually requires thought rather than just building more service buildings, good city builders will also have higher tier service buildings which might have requirements that make using them more interesting too.

this game doesn't do that, you just go "do they have enough food/firewood" and then you sprinkle on some other services for higher tier houses (only 2 tiers btw) and that's it, you don't have to worry about the streets piling up with un-transported bread, there's nothing to solve outside of basically the two problems and then it's just building more wheat farms or more woodcutters or more charcoal burners.

and like, every starts the same, hunting and berries which can support X population, it's basically a solved game in that you could play it by reading from a list of instructions.

there's the bones of a good game here but in it's current state there's not much to it.

Bannerlord's modding scene is just not as good yet. As a standalone game it is infinitely better than Warband.

the disconnect between available content + quality of available content, and the outpouring of 'hype' for this game, which is objectively bad and almost unplayable

I refuse to believe people can play what is available and still be excited for it, because it's not good

the only conclusion I can draw, logically, is that the hype is manufactured and the pre-release wishlish figures are botted, which is something eastern european slavic scumbag homosexuals would have no moral issues with doing

i'm pretty sure you can select all and rally. also not sure how so many are having issues with food. you just need berries, hunting, and wheat. you can use multiple ox to plow if you have multiple farm houses, but only one ox is necessary. just manage your pop to assign them to farming whenever march rolls around. the bigger issue is harvesting since it only gives you a single month to do it, but even then you still harvest enough to feed ~50 families for a year.

This is honestly dissapointing, when i first played Mount&Blade, it early access blew my mind becuase it was first time you could engage in battles like this, but now Manor Lords is as hyped while adding NOTHING new to the genre and doing WORSE than their older "clones"

This is the most boring map i ever seen in city builders

I noticed that as well, normally in these games the selling price of goods rises the more steps of processing the goods have gone through plus limited resources give more than unlimited ones
In Manor Lords selling processed goods ends with you making a big loss. From what I've tried so far the best export is livestock
A sheep farm and livestock trading post makes more money than clay pit + woodcutter + clay furnace > to sell roof tiles

Whenever a new game, indie/made by a small business game comes out you see that kind of thread with hundred of anons calling it the worst game ever made. Then when the thread dies it's back to the current AAA slop spam from poojets like currently with the fallout stuff/frogBlack person threads.
      Very organic.
Big corporations became so SHIT at making games that now instead of just shilling their own trash they also pay thirdies to shit on anything that might create a competition, and indies must be snuffed as fast as possible before they become a threat because unlike them they know how to make good games.

One dollar spent on an indie game is a dollar that EA/Activision/Bethesda etc won't see.

that's what westoids think, which is why they suck, they're obsessed with being "genuine" and "true to themselves" so they're always very on the nose about the fact that they're just ugly old women using an avatar, just being themselves all the time talking about their worthless prostitute lives, japanese vtubers understand that the real point is putting on a performance where they act as an idealised anime character, not just generic western prostitute but with a mask on

              Anonymous

western vtubers adopted the western streamer persona, which doesnt really exist in japan. instead a lot of the biggest japanese vtubers are ex and current egirls who know they are there to provide gfe. though a certain number of western vtubers, as well as streamers also fall into this category. its just that the "brah im so wacky but im also a carefully constructed brand that has to act as a voice of authority to my fans so it looks like i'm doing anything but shilling" doesnt really exist in japan. japanese have absolutely zero regard for dignity or integrity and 90% of their interaction with their fan boils down to "look at this product and go buy it"

                Anonymous

there's been streamers in japan too, that are not too different from western ones, but it's all been males with a facecam who were usually ex pro players at an e-sports team who retired into being streamers, female streamers in japan have been pretty uncommon, for one thing there aren't female pro players who could retire into streaming and secondly japanese value privacy very highly, they don't like showing their faces, names, or any personal info about themselves online at all, probably the fact that most japanese live in a small area in or near tokyo contributes to the fact, if you have beef with someone you can just find them and stab them irl, in the west people are a lot more spread out, even if an italian guy has online beef with a guy from arkansas it's very unlikely that they'd ever get near each other, so japanese especially women are a lot more careful about being known online, to which vtubing offered a good way of being online without sharing any of their personal information, and they understand that they're competing for the attention of guys who have all the movies and tv shows at their fingertip, so they have to put something on the table that will entertain them, for westoids the privacy thing is just largely moot, they're very straight up about "hey it's me stacy cuckson, and this is vtuber avatar lol", there's also a level of cultural difference, westoids always care about being genuine and honest, and that absolving you of bad things for some reason, like if you're being upfront and honest about being a prostitute who just has an avatar to bait simps then that somehow makes it better because you're just telling it like it is, and hate people being "fake", while japanese have no qualms about being fake, honne and tatemae and all that, and the point of being a vtuber is being fake, be fake, creative and intersting, I don't care about the stupid, boring prostitute life of someone even if they put on an anime mask

some people used to do that, but nobody likes being a faceless voice or listening to a faceless voice, both for the streamer and the viewer having an identity with a face to match feels a lot better, even if it's a drawing, like in japan just writing the script for a video and having a tts read it out loud is pretty common too, for people who don't even want to show their voice, that's how much the japs care about not sharing personal info, vtubers are a good halfway point for a lot of people, especially women who feel especially vulnerable if people found them irl, they can have an identity without showing their real face, and they can hide their voice to a degree too by changing the tone and pitch that they talk in, making the whole thing naturally lean into ad lib acting more than just being a western style streamer with a mask on, since westoids have no real concerns about privacy and safety, as well as a cultural basis of being honest and genuine, even if you do bad things, because being honest absolves you of the sin of doing a bad thing, they end up completely missing the point and reasons of being a vtuber, it's no real mystery that vtubing is drying up in the west, it has no real basis for existing in that culture and they only very superficially imitated what the japanese do while betraying the core tenets of it

      Anonymous

fact of the matter is that nobody cares about being helpful or logic or whatever, at the end of the day long essays are just convoluted, full of subjective things and of course different people have different priorities, the only thing that people really care about is a consensus, how many people like the game, and how many people don't like the game, and how many of those people are from tribes that I identify with and how many are from tribes that I consider my enemy, this is why reviews like op's and the "x thousand hour played negative reviews" baffle most people, you might think that they're just being logical and objectively evaluating the game, but realistically, nobody cares, if you played the game for a long time, or if you think the game is decent then you should be on the side of people who like the game, not the opposite, long story short, people care about tribalism and picking sides over efforts at being logical and objective

        Anonymous

Which sucks because I take time to read non-memeish reviews and mark them as helpful if they really are. I combine that and watching the first 10-15 minutes of gameplay before committing myself to playing a game. But I keep finding myself having to scroll longer and longer to find such reviews as opposed to meme-ish ones.

          Anonymous

the "meme-ish" reviews are what people care about, or more accurately they care about reviews that raise the flag of a tribe and then declare their stance, long helpful essays about evaluating the game are irrelevant for most people, they want to see "I'm from northland tribe and I support this game" or "I'm from the gray sea tribe and I oppose this game" of course fill the tribe names with whatever conemporary group you can think of, this is what matters to people and what they really care about, granted people are more likely to use codewords specific to a tribe to show their support or opposition of a game, which you probably consider "meme reviews"

Now when you say you enabled rotate crops, are you doing 2 years of the same crop? Because that's not even rotating crops.
The entire idea behind it is different crops leave different chemicals behind in the parts that aren't harvested, which get churned into the soil in the plow phase.
Notice that it's better to simply manually deal with farms. Fricking morons planting in October, the abominatio left in spring still ate half the fertility and I onky get 10% of the yield.
Is there an option I missed somewhere to specify planting/sowing cutoffs. If I had to fight a war that started in Feb and the womenfolk were only able to ploy half the fields by July they should stop planting because it's just going to eat fertility for minimal yield. The wheat we get is the worst winter wheat I have ever heard of.

whats logic in robing an individual in percentages. The government will never provide him an equal amount of services for his money. I guess its fair for those who are broke but not for successful ones.

The farm doesnt need to have any workers when the crop is growing, right? More hands wont make it grow any faster, that is.

manor lords looks alright but it legit has some of the weirdest most rabid fanbases, what the frick? it's just a chill village builder with some simple gameplay mechanics, somewhat worrisome that its all you get after 8 years of dev since that means the finished game will come out in like 30 lifetimes, but it is what it is
were ppl really this mindbroken thinking that it was, out of all the fricking things, a total war competitor? are they having 30$ sunken cost phallusy or whatever the hell? get a life

You will never be German. You will never be autistic. You will never make comfy autistic games. You are a slavic man twisted by occupation and colonization into a crude mockery of nature's perfection.
Your slavic language and poor work ethic betray you for what you really are, a developer of janky unfinished trash.

Even the achievements are bugged. I started the game, restarted after 5 months and I got the "start the game" achievement twice.

this game is kinda boring. it doesn't feel challenging like banished, any difficulty comes from moronic events

Extreme early access, the kingdom mechanic not being fleshed out enough lends itself to that though.

Agreed. It's like 20% of a game, and the AI is just extremely broken with unlimited resources so there's nothing you can really do against it. 99% of the time, it's just super slow with nothing going on. Things take forever to build. It takes forever for new people to join your town. It's got about 6 hours of fun in it currently and nothing beyond that.
