Yeah it's definitely an unfinished alpha, but behind the demo files there's an as-of-May 2002 prototype build of the regular game.

It's still being mined. There's a separate rom in the archive link that patches the File 1 save slot to actually let you play the base game though. I'm still on the Koopa Cruiser, if anyone is fast enough they might be able to find out. Fricking placeholder song the entire time though.
The mysterious hooded Beanish guy is in place and functional in this version (he's just unused leftover graphics in the final)

We know for a fact HAL still has at least one ISO of that game in their headquarters, as that's what Star Allies' director studied to make that game.

This. I know it eventually became RTDL but it still intrigues me
yeah, stuff from that got and is still getting use in games today (RTDL deluxe had even more GCN stuff in the files than the original apparently) but i want to know what the frick was going on in this original version.

worst part is is that it seemed to be very nearly complete from the footage that has been seen.
The game would have run on the same engine as Super Smash Bros. Melee and Kirby Air Ride. If this game were to leak (preferably with its source code as well) it would prove invaluable for hacking/modding those two games.
So its just a demo with 2 areas? Would've been cool if it was a near full prototype like the Pokemon ones.
It's just like the Pokémon G/S build in that regard. It has 3 pre-made demo files, but there is a proper prototype build hidden behind them in the data, meaning that Alpha Dream just tacked the demo maps and missions on top of their current WIP build at the time.
There's a hacked rom in the link that lets you play the near-full base game in File 1.
Interestingly this build was apparently the very thing used to introduce the game to the public. I don't think there was any public knowledge of its existence until it was announced at E3 2002

It's a shame the hacker was severely autistic and mostly only grabbed stuff related to Pokemon and the iQue Player. He had complete access to NCL's internal servers for two whole months FFS.
