No, whichever one had the battle cars was
3 was better
objective take
No
+ shittier boards
+ more minigames that are purely luck based
literally impossible
I too got stuck here on minigame coaster. I hate mashing. It took everything I had to beat penguin race and crane game
Easily the best minigame
Wow Luigi, way to frick up.
This and Storm Chasers (from Mario Party 3) are the minigames I have NEVER in my lifetime lost, be it against the computer or other people
that paper cartoon style is so incredibly soulless, it really holds back mario party 3
Man I love that paper cartoon style. What a great way to visually separate 3 from the other 2 on the N64, lots of soul
For me it's Face lift
I don’t care what the best is but this is super fun and my personal favorite
As much as I like waluigi, 3 is too bloated with gimmicks and is plagued by that shitty 2D paper aesthetic plus that nonsense with the evil moustache star and replacing toad with the dice homosexual. MP2 feels a lot more quintessential and straightforward
As it is with most series.
>1 is great and original bit unrefined
>2 perfects the basics
>3 is where bloat creeps in and things start feeling unfocused or chasing mass appeal
>4+ decline is inevitable
Is it really? I mean, I know it has a special place because of the costumes but there's other games with good boards and minigames. 3 and 6 are also really good.
Refer to
Deepest lore. Why is she frozen?
didn't they remove this in later versions? This is why I hate remakes
She was in cahoots with Marty the Thwomp.
It's like Streets of Rage, I grew up with the first one so that's the one I remember and enjoy the most. Mario Party 2 is alright but I barely remember anything from emulating it years ago
It's more or less 1, but better. There's a bunch of reskinned, bettered minigames that comes back too
Considering MP1 had N64DD support, MP2 probably started as an expansion, but then became a standalone release
If you can't rip your palm open, it's not even viable as the best one competitively. May as well play Monopoly at that point.
2 had the best minigames and boards.
The only thing I'd change is the ability to hold multiple items like you could in later entries in the series.
Also, I don't know if there's a consensus, but I'd say MP4 is better than MP1 simply because MP1 has terrible boards.
Is any Mario Party fun alone?
Also what's the best party game in general beyond Mario Party?
Mario Party is not fun at all. Solo or with friends. It's barely a game is only designed to make everyone bored and mad.
Yes.
I played mostly alone because we only got 4 people to the TV maybe twice per month.
I think that is an important aspect. Playing it alone because no friends has some depressing touch to it, but playing it alone because noone of your friends is there is something different.
It was fun, the computers are unpredictable. I've seen them use lamps when they don't have enough coins, call the shop with the cellular shopper and then not buy anything and many other weird things.
I remember the CPU in 1 being weird. I think one outright refused a star once. I haven't seen any of that in 2 however. They're brutal AF on the board in 2 even at Easy (I think it only affects minigames, and even there, there's a few games they'll beat you to anyways)
Then around the Gamecube where they introduced Very Easy, the CPU became braindead if you wanted them to
I found it more fun to play with people since i focused more on individual wins or just trolling them than winning at the end.
But i guess the most "singleplayer focused" Mario Party is the GBA one, or the DS but this one's too slow for me and most of the content is behind touch/mic system.
I wouldn't want to try. I'd put playing Mario Party solo up there with staring into your bathroom mirror at midnight or using a Ouja board.
I spent a fair amount of my childhood playing Mario Parties by myself. Maybe that explains a thing or two.
I mean they have unlockables that are fun to go for and the a.i. is odd and charming as has been mentioned.
I figured buying Bowser's Magma Mountain and beating it was the end of the single player content there, so Bowser robbing the star bank was a really nice surprise for me.
I always thought 6 was one of the best because of the orbs. They make every game feel dynamic since everyone's tossing them all over the place. That way the boards don't really get boring even if you play them a lot.
I still don't understand why they abandoned the costumes after one game. Braindead decision.
booba
>caring about Peach when she literally is human and has a butthole
How can you respect her as a person? She poops.
israeli meme.
And you’re mad why? Because she doesn’t poop on your mouth?
>not wanting to be pooped on by a hot blonde
Calm yourself, Moishe.
The different outfits per board really help the aesthetic. I wonder why they shifted away from that? Yoshi and DK as cowboys and astronauts is really charming!
Obviously too much work as the playable roster increased. It easy to give individual characters tailor-made content when there's so few of them
I tried playing Mario Party 2 for the first time last week, after ignoring the series my whole life.
It was painful, I had terrible luck and Yoshi kept fricking me over. And waiting for every single character to finish their turn and navigate the menus before I could play again was extremely boring.
Am I doing something wrong or is this series just a complete chore if you play alone? I have no interest in playing fricking Mario party with anyone IRL, I just wanted to enjoy the charming characters and Daisy's old design. But all those goodies are stuck in a boring ass game that requires other people to be even remotely enjoyable.
Honest question how old are you? It's weird to me that someone cant understand what it was like to have friends to play this gen of games with. Its literally a board game for a reason.
The good thing about emulators is how you can speed shit up. I pretty much only do the minigames at normal speed everything else I speed up. Whatever bad luck you might get can usually be mitigated by getting the bonus minigame and coin stars awards at the end(which are for the most part skill based so if you don't get them you don't deserve to win) and if you're winning lots of minigames and getting lots of money anyway its often more advantageous to focus on getting to Boo to steal stars rather than Toad, there's a fair bit of strategy involved in the game people tend to overblow the RNG factor. Also Daisy isn't on Mario Party 2 so I don't know what you're on about there.
Mario Farty
Mario Party 3 in a nutshell:
>buy reverse mushroom
>get to boo to steal shit
>use reverse mushroom
>goes backwards so you pass boo again to steal more shit
>next turn you go forward so you pass boo again and steal even more shit. if you didn't have the money to steal stars at first you sure do now
Mario Party in a nutshell:
>spend hours playing minigames like "count the things"
>get stars that don't matter
>put in effort that won't matter
>game just randomly picks someone as the "winner"
>turn game off
MISS!
SO EIN MIST!
>SO EIN MIST!
Brother from another mother
You can turn off the bonus stars. In 1 you need an item to do it tho' I believe
HOLY SOVLERINO
It all looks so bad on a modern display I could cry, having played it on the NSO last night. I could just emulate it on PC with a proper CRT shader, but it takes many hours to get them looking their best on your individual display, sometimes more hours than you end up spending on playing the game, so it's not the best rabbit hole to fall down.
it's a FRICKING DISGRACE is what it is, not even basic b***h scanlines for this or for puzzle league, what the FRICK were they thinking? Do homies really play 64 games like this? I have my CRT right alongside it, it makes me so sad kids will experience it in the most fricked way imaginable. Then again maybe the vaporwave crowd gets a kick out of shitty stretched out jpgs and considers it even more retro or something, frick if i know. All I know is this does NOT appeal to the 64 kid in me
>oh no it looks bad on displays it was never designed to be seen in! 0/10 trash graphics
FRICK YOU >:(
>hey our game is 90% prerendered backgrounds
>durr just upscale it it'll be fine
that gag of the giant bloodstain that turns out to be ketchup is kino
Why is he so fricking gay? He might be the gayest character in the history of gayness and videogames
The toddler Yoshi design from Yoshi's Story supplanted his original, adult dino design because Mario Kart 64 needed him to have somewhat more anthropomorphic proportions in order to fit in a kart, and similar logic followed him into the other multiplayer spinoffs afterwards. He's so fricking gay because he's essentially an oversized baby made of a bunch of spheres stuck together. The last game he looked cool in was Melee.
Because he's always paired with Birdo who is a dude. Then again some people say it's not gay to like traps...
>Birdo who is a dude
That was retconned.
impressive that even with LOVE and BEAUTY on the table Yoshi still manages to represent a gayer category
I like how this implicitly confirms Luigi as the player character. Fits nicely with Waluigi as the end.
more like it confirms Luigi is a forgettable personality void that can be used as a throwaway replacement for anything else
That's Mario.
no
Luigi represents courage better than Mario. Courage is facing your fears. Luigi never backs down, even when he's terrified. Mario has never expressed fear at all.
If Luigi had its own stamp it would be bravery or valor. In other words, he's the robin to mario's batman
Well put.
As a Yoshi player(and yes I'm unironically gay) I always assumed Kindness really was Luigi's actual stamp (since his color is also green) and the game would just leave out whatever stamp belonged to the player character.
straighter than (you)
are you gonna tell me that going out of your way to save a baby when you can just eat the one you have and be done with it is not kind? pretty frickin judgemental ya know
5 > 2 > 1
4 things holding Mario Party 2 back from being absolute perfection
The race betting game was solved but it was complicated and I can't remember it. Frick the Fly Guy game, though. Didn't even read my inputs unless I mashed both buttons at the same time.
Day at the Races was not solved but tested thorough.
From that it in chances became apparent that Thwomp is a terrible choice and Boo the best. Also that their movement in the starting boxes indicate how "eager" they are, which is an indicator of who is better.
Still, all aside it's just about chances. You could still witness Whomp win, it will just be super rare.
I've never had an issue with it because I always did pick Boo.
>Frick the Fly Guy game, though. Didn't even read my inputs unless I mashed both buttons at the same time.
It's not supposed to, that's how it works.
The instructions tell you to alternate the button presses, not mash them simultaneously, don't they?
>Game Rules – "See how far your Mecha Fly Guy will fly! Whoever flies farthest, wins!"
>Game Rules (Mini-Game Coaster) – "Wind up your Mecha Fly Guy and let him fly! Take first place to clear this Mini-Game."
>Advice – "Press the A and B Buttons simultaneously to wind your Mecha Fly Guy."
I wonder if the shy guy game was originally planned to be an analog stick rotating game but got changed to button mashing after the issues with MP1
It 100% has to have been. It's the only game with different buttons you mash and in the first game you windup a fly guy that flies around by rotating the stick.
That Bowser minigame is the best one though. It perfectly exemplifies how much Bowser is fricking with everyone playing. I love it.
>That one game where you do nothing and the result is completely random is the best game
Do you not play this shit with friends? Egging them on and joking about which one to push is a ton of fun. It's all RNG but it's set up in a way that's perfect for minigame banter and everyone can go nuts about it. Bowser being a dick and rigging it all is just plain funny too, as I noted.
Bowser's Big Blast is a thriller when I play it with friends. We know it's RNG but that doesn't stop us from shittalking whoever gets blown up first
you forgot Move to the Music
literally impossible for the 1 player to win
What's your problem with the Bowser bomb game and the race betting game? Having a couple of games literally just come down to pure luck is fun.
nta but that's the opposite of fun
>"CHANCE TIME!"
>minigame is unwinnable
Believe it or not I won it less than an hour ago, this thread made me want to replay the OG mario party. It does take a little too long my finger was getting tired 5 more seconds and I wouldnt have made it
I prefer 3
no
The fatal flaw of Mario Party 2 is that the Spaceland OST is such a banger that it is borderline criminal to play any other stage.
Western Land music is maximum comfy, haven't played MP2 in twenty years and I can still hear it
cancer
I never bothered trying to figure the strategy for this
Just count from the two last fruits before the comb and always assume CPU is going to choose two, this and avoiding the coins since they're bait always worked for me.
?t=3567
never tried this strategy myself so dunno if it works
Mario Sharty Poo
So I've replayed the original Mario Party and yes it's simplistic and rough around the hedges but one thing that stood out was Peach's cake board. If you don't remember basically the star is always on the same spot at the top and you always loop around it but players can purchase piranha plants on the many [ ? ] spaces in the board so that if someone lands on it it takes their star and gives it to whoever bought the spot. I wish a more refined version of this concept had been reused in some capacity in the other games, it was fun
Peach's cake is the best board in the game if you have a full 50 round game going. It turns into a monopoly minefield after a while.
You might like the reimagining of this board they did in Mario Party Superstars.
Seems like they were basing it on monopoly
Look Away but it's their dicks instead of their faces
The graphics are literally downgraded from 2 to 3, I really don't understand why.
Replayed Mario Party. If not for the minigames where you have to rotate the direction pad it would be kino, DK Jungle leaves a really bad impression but the other boards are great.
Is it normal for the magnet carta minigame go become crazy slow on an emulator?
>Mario Party's title screen changes based on who won the last game
Holy based
This combined with that utterly triumphant Yoko Shimomura win track made victory so sweet.
And the 4th place character being brutally executed onscreen while everyone else celebrates
Wha…what?
The character who comes in last always got shot out of a cannon or had to lick Bowser's cloaca clean or something like that
Oh that’s right. Yea same in MK64 if you place 4th it shows you instead of the final 3, driving off and a bobomb comes and blows you the frick up. Me and a buddy saw half of it fricking around during GP one time and it took us all night to get 4th place again to see the whole thing. We had been playing the game for over a year off and on and that was actually the hardest challenge outside of time trials lol!
kek, this man won games after school.
Someone was banned from the house for a while because of a tantrum he flew into after a Boo star stealing incident.
I literally got banned from someone's house because I could make Chance Time work out in my favor 90% of the time.
I liked the duel mode in MP3 the mode. Having the partners and strategy getting around the board was tons of fun. I still fire up the N64 to watch CPUs face off in it from time to time.
huh? I've played Mario Party 3 a bunch and didn't even know this was a thing
Correct
Have some Mitsuda music, the reason I play these games still.
>Mitsuda music
I definitely came from the universe where Yoko Shimomura worked on Mario Party. This is fricked.
