He's not even capable of having thoughts since he didn't read the article. And he is not interested in anyone else's thoughts since he didn't post it. Everyone is just supposed to take guesses at what is written and than argue with each other over their head canon.

This. It's marketing for people who consider themselves too savvy to be influenced by marketing.

around in arnor [sic, like you're hatred for armor] to every award show
If you had a suit of armor, you would also wear it to events

success is getting to their heads

BG4 will be an over indulgent mess

I would hypothetically agree, if it would be a thing.

What about OS1, which is also a big success? Or OS2 afterwards?

BG3 was solely carried by chuddies that wouldn't shut up about the bearsex scene and keeping it in the public eye all the way up to release

I played Baldur's Gate 3 and felt like I was bamboozled. Everything from the end of Act 2 and on is fricking crap.

    he's right
that's why smart companies like larian switched to bots and shill farms to promote their product on social media

Larian ran the most transparently obvious paid shill marketing campaign for fricking weeks before B3 launched.

You could easily see the effect of them scrambling to change their release date, because they didn't even have time to pretend the posts that were being pushed to the front page of Reddit, Ganker and everywhere else were legitimate, it was all the most obvious paid engagement, and it absolutely drowned out discussion to the point it was utterly ridiculous and a huge turn off from the game.

So for them to sit here now and take this line just fricking reeks of hypocrisy. It's just them trying to re-write history and paint themselves as better than the other guys yet again.

Fricking choke on it Larian. If your next game doesn't have such an obnoxious shill campaign behind it, then maybe I'll consider your words.

Traditional marketing was easier whenever info was limited about a game but with the internet it's easy to catch marketers or devs in a lie immediately. The dude is right, the best way to market to people these days is just to be real.

Making your game DRM free is the biggest marketing trick ever. It's not new. Cdprojekt has been doing this for many years. Cyberpunk had no DRM since day one yet it still sold 25 million.

If he's talking about marketing in the past 10 years, oh frick yeah it's gone to shit. Companies just straight up talk shit now, you don't like their product? You're a terrible person and you'll face dire social affects for not liking it and it's your fault if it doesn't work out .

They literally had shills posting here round the clock to try and convince people that this furgay game was some anti woke masterpiece and bury that article they made where they seethed about people playing as white guys.

    He's right
think about all the times we are skeptical of trailers or bullshots or "pre-alpha footage", the billboards don't work, the millions of dollars they are spending for tie-ins don't work

for a long time we have joked about marketing budgets being as high or higher than the game budget, and this is exactly what they are talking about, it's unsustainable; they just need to scale down all the advertising bullshit and just honestly present the game
