some might say they were barren or nothing to do in them. well dude not every planet in space will be filled with cities or civilizations. they're called uncharted for a reason
sometimes you'd find an outpost or mystery. but the most I remeber are the amazing vistas.

Some of them were particularly ridiculous, like the three or so needle planets.
holy frick the planets that were nothing but 90 degree slopes you had to drive the mako up, Jesus Christ
one thing I did greatly enjoy about ME was the flavor text and the worldbuilding they did with it
shame they never really did anything with it
I do have to say Bring Down the Sky gave me one of my favorite views in the series
One of my favourite views is bizarrely an ME2 DLC.
Loved staring at this
that's the view from the villa in the Kasumi mission, right?
just finished it
I can tell you, as I just finished ME1 the other day, that it gets very repetitive after awhile and it doesn't help that every planet is the same exact format with 1 anomaly, 1 debris, 2 mineral deposits, and possibly a mission structure
occasionally they'd toss in something cool like a Prothean ruin that you can use the trinket Shaira gave you to get some lore like the Protheans were studying humanity from the beginning but more often then not it was just repetition
every now and then it will gove you at least something nice to look at like Solcrum
either way it is infinitely better than the fricking planet scanning in 2
Yeah, Bekenstien or something
Whenever I play 2 now I just turn on one probe scanning. I've done so many replays and dozens of hours of scanning and honestly even doing one probe still takes ages to 100% the map
yeah why the frick would you sit through that shit over and over again. Once I did my first playthrough I put that mod on that auto-completes scanning without having to look for it but its just time wasting bullshit.
I remember going to these planets and pretending like I was on earth billions of years into the future where the sun burned out or something.
Holy frick yes.
I agree, the universe felt bug and more real in ME2, then comes ME2 and its linear corridors filled with chest high walls and gears of war gameplay.
The empty world with the great synth music and cool vistas like your pic where a nice change of pace from the more story based missions and made the game feel more like a real universe and not a theme park ride.
I hope Starfield gives me that feeling back in 2 months.
I swear I could have made this thread and said exactly the same things. Absolutely adore exploring those planets.
And this as well. Shows what incredible atmosphere can be created with relatively simple techniques.
>never played ME
>starfield's about to release
>suddenly a wild enjoyment in sci-fi space shit appears
>have these two games to enjoy

Have a great summer playing the Legendary Edition.
I always wanted a game focused on that ME1 side content. NMS was so-so. i think starfield would be better and closer to ME1 unexplored planets.
I’m unironically finding some uncharted planet in Starfield that has constant blizzards, and then building an outpost on it and naming it Noveria.
Noveria and feros were my favorite worlds
I might be autistic but i loved exploring the planets in ME1.
It didn't age so well. Andromeda did it better.
I always explore each planet because frankly you can do a 100% ME1 playthrough in under 12 hours before Ilos endgame, but I understand they're not very well crafted outside of a few of them. I still enjoy them.
I spend like 30 hours every playthrough of ME1
How?
my favorite planet was the earch like one with the MASSIVE pollen. beautiful planet.
the fact that they don't feel like "video game levels" sells them imo, also makes the rare discoveries like skeleton structures much more intriguing
helps that they often look beautiful too
I wish they didn't reuse sky boxes with different presets.
>this ambience begins playing
Time for a replay
Reminder they took this away from us and gave us shitty "epic" music with less synth as the series went on.
>No more creepy sidequests about cults, marines with PTSD, etc.
>Origin story gives exclusive missions in ME1 and wasn't mentioned later on.
>Atmosphere lost as game goes full Gears of War
>Nothing recaptured the fun of entering a base and throwing everyone around with biotic powers.
Honestly even the loading screens were better in ME1 since it was atmospheric as frick to have the Normandy decontamination.
>Origin story gives exclusive missions in ME1 and wasn't mentioned later on.
The only thing that gets actual content is Spacer conversations with your mom.
>Equalizing interior pressure with exterior atmosphere
>Logged. The commanding officer is ashore. XO Pressly has the deck.
Spacer gives you some dialogue with Sheoards mother in 3 and the DLC
Not sure about 2. Probably an email
>Atmosphere lost as game goes full Gears of War
The series gained more atmosphere as it went on
>The series gained more atmosphere as it went on
>ME1 everyone running around in campy sci-fi plastic space suits
>ME2 you recruit a mentally unstable bald girl, covered in tattoos
>ME1 Cerberus is small splinter group of human military
>ME2 Cerberus now fricking huge with ability to revive the dead
>ME3 Cerberus is fricking everywhere and now has cringe space ninjas
>ME1 paragon/renegade has viable pros and cons
>ME2/3 Renegade chocies are all bad, everyone is indoctrinated, etc
You also get a more reactive world from Alpha Protocol, my chocies meant fricking nothing.
>wiping out the g*th
>getting Illusive Man's last words
>telling Liara to stfu
>killing Balak
>bad
>killing Balak
what do you mean?
he died in me1
You're arguing different things. None of the arguments you made are tied to atmosphere
>ME2 Cerberus now fricking huge with ability to revive the dead
And in ME1 they are implied to be "fricking huge" as well. Furthermore a small splinter group in a intergalactic empire is going to be huge
>intergalactic
Don't use words you don't understand
>ME1 paragon/renegade has viable pros and cons
Like what, the only paragon renegade with pros and cons I can remember is Garrus sidequest
empty space is really important, at least for exploration games.
goddammit OP now I want to play ME1 again
agreed I enjoyed it as well, felt like an organic place you discovered but they could have mixed up the facilities a bit but that could've been engine or a time constraint issue
didn't like the side stuff in 2 cause it just felt like they put you into an unreal engine asset drop zone and lead you from point A to B to C
one of my favorite missions is the asteroid mission in 1
And then Andromeda came along and made it better
I don't take anyone seriously if they think the Mako was bad or hard to drive.
can you still get the original mass effect 1 or have they wiped it off the face of the earth and replaced it with the hd remaster?
Yes you can get the original but there isn't much point getting it.
what makes you say that?
Mod support has parity with the legendary edition or whatever its called.
The Legendary Edition is a great bundle and the mod support plus some of the newer mods for LE were not possible on the OG games (MELE1 Diversification Mod, MELE 3 Diversification mod, etc)
ah gotcha, thats a good reason then. I just remember the atmosphere being fricked with in the remasters and I hate that type of shit. I'll give it a shot though, I'm sure I can find it on 1337x or something.
I've not looked for a while but I'm sure there is a reshade that returns it to type. Seems the most obvious base mod to have made.
Just remember, any texture mods come last to install. Read a guide to be aware.
There are some mods that help with that, MELLO is a great one. Fixes the lightning atmosphere of the first game so it is closer or at what it was originally.
hey thanks, you guys have been great. I appreciate the mod recommendations also. If you have anymore I'd love to hear em.
For mass effect 3, EGM and Spectre add on are almost essential for me. 1 get the uncharted world maps (just saves time) and for 2 the one probe per planet mod.
Personally, I suggest you just filter nexus by most downloaded and see what takes your fancy. There is a mod manager too.
You'll probably find you modding is more minimal for 1 and 2
No you can still get it
But there is no reason to
Couldn't agree more. Driving the tank and hovercraft was more fun than all of the cover shooting combined.

would be even better if you replaced the narrator's voice with EDI
I will take the empty planets over the hours of filler planet scanning in 2 any day. They could have improved it so much in 2 but instead they just fricking scrapped the exploration elements entirely.
it felt like real space exploration kino
