Pure Runick and Runick Stun have incredible grind by virtue of being able to use their ED to draw crards and protect backrow.
Runick Combo has surprisingly little grind and is relying on resolving Fountain turn 1 for the +3 draws. It is essentially a Pot of Desires or Nadir Servant turn 1, which is shit that other decks like Lab and Kashtira can do without the drawbacks of devoting 20% of your main deck and 30% of your Extra Deck to the Runick cards.

Schmidt is good at the game but he's also bad at being objective. He was smart enough to recognize how broken Runick was right from the start and realize that Spright was better at ranking than Tears, but he equates these meta calls with them being healthy for the game. I don't think that's really what they need. The probably with toon in the modern game is that they have basically no interaction aside from briefcase and terror, and those are 1 shot interuptions that the theme doesn't have a way to recycle. Also searching trap cards like that takes away most of their effectiveness as surprises.
A boss monster with a more proactive effect would be good. hopefully not an omni negate or pop, but something that can screw up a turn and be thematic.
Alternatively a way to recycle their spell and traps and not lose a more drawn out resource game might be good.
On the other hand the deck has lots of sacky otk tools and since every toon is a direct attacker, the line between 'quirky pet deck' and 'annoying otk deck' is a bit thin.

It's annoying because Endy would be much cheaper if it didn't have a 180 UR dust wall of chicken game and upstart goblin, both of which should honestly be SRs because no other deck outside of stun plays them.

If you're familiar with fighting games, it's the same appeal Marvel vs Capcom had years ago before people realized how cancer Zero May Cry was. Compared to every other card game YGO is extremely fast paced and exciting.
For me personally, looking at other card games the lack of a mana system is definitely a plus. That paradigm has plagued CCGs for years and YGO is the only game that has really been successful without one. Also no set rotation, holy frick I love no set rotation. Old cards that used to be good or never were can just magically become the silver bullet in the meta out of the blue and it's so cool.

Black person it happens like every other format. Just recently in TCG and OCG Soul Release became a viable tech card. That shit is from 2004 and has barely seen any competitive play. Marionette Mite also came out of nowhere when Unchained became good, a 2007 card that I think saw play back in the day but not at all in the modern game. And people playing with the Hex Sealed shit for Dragoon in Branded. Even not so old cards that were shit all of a sudden are examples like Amblowhale which is 2019 because it works with Promethian Princess. I could keep going with this shit too if I wanted. You're not paying attention to the game if you think it is rare.
Soul Release is an exception because it could potentially become a staple as GY effects become more plentiful going forward,it's the closest card in the game to "Graveyard Breaker", although banishing face up is not ideal in the current age anyway.

Modern Yu-Gi-Oh games at times feel like real-life shounen battle manga. The feints, recovery, OTKs and bosses are Pokemon/Jojo battles without protagonist plot armor.
Whereas in the older game it felt more like trying to recreate scenes or combos from the DM anime.
It's basically extreme two player solitaire with giant robots and dragons and shit. Unfortunately most games are decided as soon as they begin with one player never having a chance to win in the first place.

Pretty much. People feel compelled to defend called because it's another Maxx C out in your deck, but the card is inherently way too powerful. Not only does it shut down a card for two turns, it's just insanely flexible in general.
I hate to defend Maxx C in any way shape or form but I've had more games turned into non-games by Called By. Things would be so much better if they were just both fricking gone and Crossout was at 3 or maybe even that being gone would be fine too.

Most meta decks interct with the GY so called is both an anti-hantrap and anti-GY card, while crossout is specifically anti handtrap or in rare cases anti board breaker.
I use it to unbrick myself in Thunder Dragons, but that is still a cope use for it and it happens like once every 50 games

Something I actually like about Crossout is you can get creative if your matchup is really bad and side in an opponent's engine piece if you're really assmad at that deck and can afford to run what is essentially a hard brick. Much less viable in MD than TCG where that's actually worth doing where it is at 3, and the whole Crossout for Crossout situation just doesn't happen in an environment where Maxx wiener doesn't exist because Crossout (and even Called By) is less effective than just running cards that actually plus you if the opponent doesn't have the handtrap for it that you can use ahead of your main engine. Crossout without Maxx C is really such a niche scalpel kind of card.
D Shifter isn't even that good. Its dead vs VS and Kash, Branded and D Link can still put out a decent board through it. It really only kills pet decks.

I see a lot of lists running Cactus Bouncer nowadays but seems kind of bad since it's usually dead unless you open Dai, I know it's pretty strong when you do get to summon it but it just doesn't seem worth the deck space for me.
Also I don't see why so many lists dont run the 3 cards Therions package, yeah Regulus in hand sucks but even when locked into plants Lily works as a free extender body unless you really bricked.
Run in 53% of Rikka Sunavalon lists apparently, you can search it and just NS it assuming you can combo without using up your NS by starting with something like Unexpected Dai.
Oops you opened Discolosseum, Snowdrop, and Regulus again
I know that feel but any plant NS to link off into Disc search Lily and that's at least 2 plants for a copium Dancepione or just Lily send herself to summon the Regulus, Disc/Lily aren't even real bricks whereas Cactus Bouncer is 100% a brick if you need to Normal Summon.
Losing Chaos Ruler sucks, but in reality Bystial Synchro doesn't actually die because Assault Synchron was meant to combo with other Blackwing cards like Darkrage

I have an unnatural amount of bad luck in this game. Like, 2 days ago I was playing spright bystial, Maxx C'd my opp on t3, he went for the kill as mathmech.
I needed exactly 1 bystial, of which I run 8 in my deck, to survive the swing. Drew like 9 cards but not a single bystial. This is one of a mountain of misfortune overdose examples I have.
That's how unlucky I am.
I have bad luck streaks but in all my time playing MD (doing either the Gold>Plat or Plat>Diamond grind depending on the current meta) I've never experienced this omni-present stun shit that some people talk about

I made it to M1 with it last season so I would say it's still fairly decent, another consistency hit sucks but it's not like having 1 less pot changes your gameplan or anything.
Here's the list I've been running although you can definitely cut down on the number of tribute summon birds since most people don't play this many, Unexplored winds is also commonly played at 1 and you can include some extra consistency cards like Gold sarc if you want to.

Borger is the problem, tags out to dodge shit. Draws every turn or burns you for 1500 every turn. Drawing every turn when the deck runs the non engine shit it does and just needs different attributes in hand is fricked. Snow devil is very good too though
VS can't play if they don't have names on the field and Snow Devil is what keeps names on the field after an evenly. There are also no hand traps that stop special summoning from the hand or banish (like Tri Brigade Revolt) which makes it hard to stop unlike say kaijus or droplet on Rock
Add that to Snow Devil's burn and VS just becomes another trickstar deck with borger which is degnerate as frick

Pure Runick and Runick Stun have incredible grind by virtue of being able to use their ED to draw crards and protect backrow.
Runick Combo has surprisingly little grind and is relying on resolving Fountain turn 1 for the +3 draws. It is essentially a Pot of Desires or Nadir Servant turn 1, which is shit that other decks like Lab and Kashtira can do without the drawbacks of devoting 20% of your main deck and 30% of your Extra Deck to the Runick cards.

I don't think that's really what they need. The probably with toon in the modern game is that they have basically no interaction aside from briefcase and terror, and those are 1 shot interuptions that the theme doesn't have a way to recycle. Also searching trap cards like that takes away most of their effectiveness as surprises.
A boss monster with a more proactive effect would be good. hopefully not an omni negate or pop, but something that can screw up a turn and be thematic.
Alternatively a way to recycle their spell and traps and not lose a more drawn out resource game might be good.
On the other hand the deck has lots of sacky otk tools and since every toon is a direct attacker, the line between 'quirky pet deck' and 'annoying otk deck' is a bit thin.

One thing they could do? Toon Egyptian Gods. Maybe make them easier to summon if Toon World is on the field (return to the hand during each EP if Toon World isn't on the field?) but otherwise just make them searchable versions of the Egyptian Gods. No gay summoning sickness restrictions, no moronic "nuke me if toon world is destroyed" bullshit, just searchable Egyptian Gods. You'd be shocked as to how quickly they start running token generators.

If you're familiar with fighting games, it's the same appeal Marvel vs Capcom had years ago before people realized how cancer Zero May Cry was. Compared to every other card game YGO is extremely fast paced and exciting.
For me personally, looking at other card games the lack of a mana system is definitely a plus. That paradigm has plagued CCGs for years and YGO is the only game that has really been successful without one. Also no set rotation, holy frick I love no set rotation. Old cards that used to be good or never were can just magically become the silver bullet in the meta out of the blue and it's so cool.

Marionette Mite also came out of nowhere when Unchained became good, a 2007 card that I think saw play back in the day but not at all in the modern game. And people playing with the Hex Sealed shit for Dragoon in Branded. Even not so old cards that were shit all of a sudden are examples like Amblowhale which is 2019 because it works with Promethian Princess. I could keep going with this shit too if I wanted. You're not paying attention to the game if you think it is rare.
Soul Release is an exception because it could potentially become a staple as GY effects become more plentiful going forward,it's the closest card in the game to "Graveyard Breaker", although banishing face up is not ideal in the current age anyway.

Modern Yu-Gi-Oh games at times feel like real-life shounen battle manga. The feints, recovery, OTKs and bosses are Pokemon/Jojo battles without protagonist plot armor.
Whereas in the older game it felt more like trying to recreate scenes or combos from the DM anime.
It's basically extreme two player solitaire with giant robots and dragons and shit. Unfortunately most games are decided as soon as they begin with one player never having a chance to win in the first place.

It's always been a cancerous hyper going first card and is also way too flexible AND it fricking lingers as well. At least Crossout you have to make the conscious effort to build your deck with it in mind beyond the fricking roach. Called By is just play the turn for fricking free, the card.
Pretty much. People feel compelled to defend called because it's another Maxx C out in your deck, but the card is inherently way too powerful. Not only does it shut down a card for two turns, it's just insanely flexible in general.
I hate to defend Maxx C in any way shape or form but I've had more games turned into non-games by Called By. Things would be so much better if they were just both fricking gone and Crossout was at 3 or maybe even that being gone would be fine too.
In general, there's a lot that needs to be culled. Problem is we'd need to ban other cards to compensate, and that's too much work for a humble pachinko company like konami.
Crossout should stay at 1 forever, having your opponent be able to crossout your crossout or vice versa is pure cancer.

Something I actually like about Crossout is you can get creative if your matchup is really bad and side in an opponent's engine piece if you're really assmad at that deck and can afford to run what is essentially a hard brick. Much less viable in MD than TCG where that's actually worth doing where it is at 3, and the whole Crossout for Crossout situation just doesn't happen in an environment where Maxx wiener doesn't exist because Crossout (and even Called By) is less effective than just running cards that actually plus you if the opponent doesn't have the handtrap for it that you can use ahead of your main engine. Crossout without Maxx C is really such a niche scalpel kind of card.

I see a lot of lists running Cactus Bouncer nowadays but seems kind of bad since it's usually dead unless you open Dai, I know it's pretty strong when you do get to summon it but it just doesn't seem worth the deck space for me.
Also I don't see why so many lists dont run the 3 cards Therions package, yeah Regulus in hand sucks but even when locked into plants Lily works as a free extender body unless you really bricked.

Run in 53% of Rikka Sunavalon lists apparently, you can search it and just NS it assuming you can combo without using up your NS by starting with something like Unexpected Dai.

I needed exactly 1 bystial, of which I run 8 in my deck, to survive the swing. Drew like 9 cards but not a single bystial. This is one of a mountain of misfortune overdose examples I have.

I don't know how the frick they think that shit is anything but one of the best decks in the game its so fricking hard to interact with, then they start playing into your board and guess what I'm going to draw into kurikara so don't use any effects if you don't want to get FTK'd this turn and if you don't I'll just burn you for the rest anyway

It's ok because VS also runs Desires and Extravagance. They can beat 99% of decks just with their normal deck monsters lel.

More like till end phase, by next turn it got most of resources back.
the only problem cards in VS is snow devil, because for similar resons to Branded it requires you to run HFD alongside evenly (which otherwise kills VS)
Borger is the problem, tags out to dodge shit. Draws every turn or burns you for 1500 every turn. Drawing every turn when the deck runs the non engine shit it does and just needs different attributes in hand is fricked. Snow devil is very good too though
VS can't play if they don't have names on the field and Snow Devil is what keeps names on the field after an evenly. There are also no hand traps that stop special summoning from the hand or banish (like Tri Brigade Revolt) which makes it hard to stop unlike say kaijus or droplet on Rock
Add that to Snow Devil's burn and VS just becomes another trickstar deck with borger which is degnerate as frick

rod can only search for one thing and usually gets negated
soul servant requires dm on the field or gy
so you have two searches which for either dark magical circle or magicians salvation to get eternal soul
then you need a fusion on top of that
so either you got have some of those things in your hand which doesnt happen all the time or you have to just settle for only part of the setup.
even more so when you run bystials and hand traps
but without bystials dm is even weaker it feels

Why konami hate main deck boss pends?
They are either fricking awful or simply non usable because generic ED tend be far better and easier to summon.
Endy is the only one that actually keep pends around.

Vaylantz does have their own boss monster that works as an actual interruption but every time I see the deck it's just being used to combo into a degenerate lockdown with Pachy or something.
Because deck don't have any sort of plays besides that or go second otk. It lack of monsters and is limited on tools due lock.
Also blame konami for making that shit searchable or being able to SS.
