Gravity Axe Grarl counters flip monsters, and Stumbling+Gravity Axe means all their summons go to defense and they can't put them in attack.

Run backrow removal or some low levels dummy. This isn't modern Yugioh where building your deck like that would lose you games vs 75% of decks and you have one turn to draw the out.
This is typically much easier when you have a sidedeck to slot in enough outs to draw them consistently. Floodgates in bo1 are no less of a pain in the ass in the old format.

in modern ygo the "out" is you looking at your hands and seeing the lines. Your ability to win comes off of having enough IQ to bait negates then go for an actual game winning play usually using extradeck options. in 2004 ygo the "out" is Field Wipe or Heavy Storm exactly or lose. all the "skill" is in the luck of the draw because the card designs are so binary.

This is stupid but also fun.
Stupid but fun is pretty evocative of this format as a whole outside of the more meta advantage engines. Like I can't believe this janky, chaos/warrior good stuff pile carried me for 3 straight wins. BLS even got to make an appearance once. Felt like picking up a bundle of cards I had back when I was younger and building a deck out of them, especially since I didn't want to craft any SR/URs. It was also pretty fun to actually get to bluff people out and focus on advantage over a longer game. I distinctly remember one guy using metamorphosis->Thousand Eyes to out my Dark Blade all the while I had Hammer Shot in hand. He also blew a Call of the Haunted to revive a 1600 beater (His only backrow) so I made a push with Marauding Captain. Even had another game that went to 20 turns, but it didn't really feel like a slog.
I don't think I'd play much of this format if it got a dedicated mode (It's largely solved, and OCG GOAT format kinda sucks overall, especially with the modern erratas) but it was fun playing with a bunch of randoms who weren't crazy good at the format.

So I've been playing a bit of the Dragonball Fusion World card game that came out yesterday in digital form and wanted to share some infos here for people who might be thinking of giving this a go:

I did like 20 matches, won very few of them cause everyone is playing that fricking Gohan SSJ2 green deck even in Bronze 5 and right now I'm sitting on a grand total of 1300 gems (exhausting all the daily from yesterday and today, some weeklies and random beginner gifts)
All in all the game is not F2P at all, you have to buy the IRL products / paypig to get value from this otherwise you're in for a bad time. A shame really since I find the game very fun to play. Did you already tried it?

Archetype-based modern nugioh is a brain virus, of this I'm certain. Archetype game design means the average player barely needs to deckbuild at all, and when they lose it's always because their archetype was just too weak and needs buffs or their opponent's archetype was too strong. Handtraps like Ash need other Handtraps to compliment them to be actually impactful. Called by his maxx C in the draw phase, used chicken game, drew into TTT, forced IP with dracoback bounce, he made underworld goddess probably thinking any extension I'd do would be off of the grave being I'm playing PK, I stole flamberge with TTT and tried to put his goddess in the back forcing the veiler, then I made cherubini into unicorn and tried to spin back goddess which he responded with droplet, then I made accesschud, tried to use a PK in grave to get extension but he used ash (last interaction) then I was forced to make DPE but thankfully it was enough to attack for game from his chicken game and heatsoul self-damage

You don't. If they draw a good hand you're shit out of luck, and pot is legal. The loaner would have a hard time doing it turn 1 but a properly constructed deck can pull it off pretty often.
To get to Horus turn 1 you'd need to draw the level 4 Horus and 2 Level Ups. And if you want to be trap immune you need Royal Decree too. 4 cards, all for a board that dies to normal summon Exiled Force or Tribe and gets walled by Marshmallon.

They're desperate to get a lot of players onboarded since the launch didn't go as expected. It's really astounding how many duels and screentime Jaden got over everyone else.
You don't hear about most of yugioh's history, only nostalgiaboomer formats that people still play, and formats that were divisive where a deck was overwhelming
GX is where konami did what most players want to and didn't shake up the meta in any way. Every set is as mid as the next one. Cyber Dragon killed goat, and that's it.
Konami was trying to not power creep too Much during that time believe it or not and would even nerf cards from the anime to ensure it (anime Bubbleman for example was broken). Cyber Dragon was the first real game changer GX had and eventually they decided power creep was the way to go with Phantom Darkness
This format is atrocious. Just play removal, normal summon, attack directly, pass, opponent plays removal, normal summons, attacks directly, passes, repeat ad infinitum. The only times when it doesn't play out like this is when one player is with some sort of cancer stun stall deck. I want to strangle every single yugiboomer. No wonder they enjoy this braindead shit with their senile brains. I'd rather go second against Adventure Halq all day than play a single more game of this awful format.

The people who stuck with it liked it, but Zexal did not have a good reception on release since it takes half of the show to get to "the good part". Before then you have to deal with some seriously unappealing kiddy bullshit. Double worse after coming off the heels of the much more serious 5Ds.

5Ds is almost good for the first 10ish episodes and then it gets caught up in a tournament arc done too early and then it can't decide what it wants the Earthbound Immortal arc to be and then it just keeps fumbling and trying different things that don't mesh or flow particularly well. And then it ends.

The gadget loaner was surprisingly strong. Got my wins with it, but honestly going first is still stupid strong due to backrow. At the same time, it really felt like it was one for one trading, so eventually gadgets plus overalls the opponents. Games were pretty much just hoping to find the out to opponent backrow though.

Grarl. It's basically a more aggressive version of Clown Control that also uses the special summoning capabilities of earth monsters like Giant Rat, The Rock Spirit, and Guardian of Grarl to push for game.

This is stupid but also fun.
Stupid but fun is pretty evocative of this format as a whole outside of the more meta advantage engines. Like I can't believe this janky, chaos/warrior good stuff pile carried me for 3 straight wins. BLS even got to make an appearance once. Felt like picking up a bundle of cards I had back when I was younger and building a deck out of them, especially since I didn't want to craft any SR/URs. It was also pretty fun to actually get to bluff people out and focus on advantage over a longer game. I distinctly remember one guy using metamorphosis->Thousand Eyes to out my Dark Blade all the while I had Hammer Shot in hand. He also blew a Call of the Haunted to revive a 1600 beater (His only backrow) so I made a push with Marauding Captain. Even had another game that went to 20 turns, but it didn't really feel like a slog.
I don't think I'd play much of this format if it got a dedicated mode (It's largely solved, and OCG GOAT format kinda sucks overall, especially with the modern erratas) but it was fun playing with a bunch of randoms who weren't crazy good at the format.

So I've been playing a bit of the Dragonball Fusion World card game that came out yesterday in digital form and wanted to share some infos here for people who might be thinking of giving this a go:

>You get a grand total of 200ish gems a week by doing Dailies and Weeklies
>A pack costs 100 gems (only one expansion out right now), rarities are SCRs (3 or 4 versions for card, only 2 for this set), SRs (4 versions for card), Rares, Uncommons, Commons and Leaders (2 versions for card)
>You are guaranteed 1 SR for a multi summon of 1000 gems, every pack has 8 cards in it.
>To get wildcards (similar to MTG Arena) you have to get more than the playable amount of copies (1 for Leaders, 4 for the other rarities) of the same card in that specific rarity and every extra copy gets you 1/5 of a wildcard
>You can't disenchant
>A starter deck costs 400 gems (you need 2 of those to have a full playset of the exclusive SR cards from the structure deck)
I did like 20 matches, won very few of them cause everyone is playing that fricking Gohan SSJ2 green deck even in Bronze 5 and right now I'm sitting on a grand total of 1300 gems (exhausting all the daily from yesterday and today, some weeklies and random beginner gifts)
All in all the game is not F2P at all, you have to buy the IRL products / paypig to get value from this otherwise you're in for a bad time. A shame really since I find the game very fun to play. Did you already tried it?

You don't. If they draw a good hand you're shit out of luck, and pot is legal. The loaner would have a hard time doing it turn 1 but a properly constructed deck can pull it off pretty often.
To get to Horus turn 1 you'd need to draw the level 4 Horus and 2 Level Ups. And if you want to be trap immune you need Royal Decree too. 4 cards, all for a board that dies to normal summon Exiled Force or Tribe and gets walled by Marshmallon.

Konami was trying to not power creep too Much during that time believe it or not and would even nerf cards from the anime to ensure it (anime Bubbleman for example was broken). Cyber Dragon was the first real game changer GX had and eventually they decided power creep was the way to go with Phantom Darkness

This format is atrocious. Just play removal, normal summon, attack directly, pass, opponent plays removal, normal summons, attacks directly, passes, repeat ad infinitum. That being said packs are only like $1 per pack and I opened 130 packs with the codes I got from buying physical cards and I got a playset of almost everything except the secret rares.

From my research literally yesterday people really like 5ds and zexal, with arc5 being somewhat divisive but kinda middling overall and with vrains being somewhat universally disliked because of the ending I think?

The people who stuck with it liked it, but Zexal did not have a good reception on release since it takes half of the show to get to "the good part". Before then you have to deal with some seriously unappealing kiddy bullshit. Double worse after coming off the heels of the much more serious 5Ds.
On the flipside while I was reading I've seen many a people say they didn't like how serious and actually depressing 5Ds was at times

Zexal has genuine good character development early on even when it's delivered through filler arcs about sentient robot trash cans
5Ds is almost good for the first 10ish episodes and then it gets caught up in a tournament arc done too early and then it can't decide what it wants the Earthbound Immortal arc to be and then it just keeps fumbling and trying different things that don't mesh or flow particularly well. And then it ends.
Crash Town was cool though
Yusei on the run from the police, making underworld connections, ordering some milk, adopting a pair of random twins all with some absolutely god-tier OST behind it is just peak comfy honestly

The gadget loaner was surprisingly strong. Got my wins with it, but honestly going first is still stupid strong due to backrow. At the same time, it really felt like it was one for one trading, so eventually gadgets plus overalls the opponents. Games were pretty much just hoping to find the out to opponent backrow though.
The horus deck i found pretty good in fact all these loners are good for a change.
The loaners are usually good lately. It's just that it's harder to pick up a relatively modern deck than it is to play with old deck.
