synchro feels like the weakest this event since so many synchro decks rely on links for combos / extensions / recovery. xyz / fusion still have access to pmuch the entirety of their main pieces
they're the exception and not the rule: mannadium / shs (the best synchro decks in the format) both rely on links / fusions, the same goes for infernoble, swordsoul is fine but losing the tenyi links when fusions/xyz can do their thing unimpeded hurts, punk / gold pride have synchro endboards but rely on fusion / xyz to reach them, so on, so forth
Maybe if you're playing old slop but the new Synchro decks are more powerful but lock you into only Synchro. Shit like T.G. doesn't actually need Trident Launcher anymore. It has Over Dragonar now. Red Dragon's serachers lock you. Synchrons lock you. Really, they lost nothing but a few bits of Snake-Eye.
Give him back. Add a retrain of Toadally Awesome that explicitly only requires frogs and requires at least 10 frogs in your deck. Just give them back their boss monster.

Unless your deck can get to lethal through two handtraps, it's not a better hand. The problem is that snake eyes in particular can end up being unphazed by, or plus off of hand traps. The bigger issue that video doesn't address is that board breakers dont actually break boards any more due to new stuff with graveyard recursion, because the arms race hasn't needed to go that far until now. Congrats, you tried to play into a snake eyes board until you could drnm their flamberge. If you have any gas left enjoy dealing with their grind game, unless you have a called by or some other negate ready.

gazelle grabs any illusion when fused off and berf barfs out any illusion from graveyard, the fusions also can barf out any of the archetypes types as a banish effect as well but you usually use that for floodgates like end of anubis or barrier statue . anyway read homie read

Really gimmicky Primal Seed FTK loops that any sane opponent will scoop to long before you put this guy in your pend zone. Because you need search cards and do some workarounds, even if mean loop electrumite, searching dissolver and harmonizer is almost mandatory.
Darkwurm is goat discard fodder and magician can be searched by nearly everything on deck, which compress ton of slots.

Lab is the current set 5 pass archetype
the rest have wacky combo lines that end in the same 4 generic bosses or are albaz (every other card is UR, good luck poorgay)
if you want the best combo deck that ends in the same 4 generic bosses pick up snake-eyes and diabellestar
practice in solo until you can make a good endboard from most hands

Mikanko is a very good go second deck, in a BO1 format where nobody really prepares for it, its honestly one of the easiest decks to win with, also allows you to spectate and observe a wealth of enemy decks since you'll only play second.
Albaz piles (Branded despia, branded bystial or whatever you want to call it) is a deck with a ton of recursive effects, many plan Bs and a very bulky engine that can be used in other decks. It's mid-range as it doesn't have a lot of interuption per turn but is just very hard to put down.
Labrynth single handedly makes traps relevant, it's either played with a lot of furnitures, a lot of traps, and/or paired with other engines such as resonator, unchained or dogmatika. Extremely versatile deck.
Mathmech relies on the most busted effect monster in the game (Circular) to put up a decent amount of interactions and easily swing for game next turn.
Purrely makes you sit on a tower with a non-OPT bounce, it received new support recently.
Same for R-Ace, received support, relies on setting 4 powerful spell/traps from deck for a ton of interaction, and decent recursion. If you play it, be mindful you're gonna want the diabellstar engine which represents 6 to 11 Craft-only URS (+ promethean princess) depending on how big you want it to be, but it shouldnt be a problem with 10k gems, and makes you craft the most relevant engine in the game rn so...
Tearlaments is a graveyard based deck with access to many powerful fusion, synchro and xyz monsters that allow for a ton of flexibility on how you build it, itd ability to keep playing on both turns is extremely notable and disruptive. Post-nerfs it has become a deck with a moderate skill floor, with one of the highest skill ceilings.
If you're into combo decks, look at Mannadium, Superheavy Samurai, Infernoble and Rikka. A deck to look out for in the near future is Salamangreat (has both a structure and support coming)

The game was only "good" for about half a decade, starting around Edison and ending with DUEA, and ironically not because of Pendulum.

Atleast you can still have a ton of fun playing with friends by limiting decks and whatnot these days. Also I've been having fun in bronze-gold for a long time since people are mostly fricking around down there.

Hard to pin it down. Old Yugioh spans a long time period at this point. And the old metas were not as figured out as they are now. Also the average middle school kid did not have a meta deck. Also it depends on if you mean OCG vs TCG because OCG had a far different start with the TCG starting a few years later meaning they skipped how the game was at the earliest.
Even before archetypes released there were still unique decks built around different synergies. Whether it be a deck that abuses cards like Blade Rabbit and Dream Clown or a deck that uses Giant Rats and Pyramid Turtles to cheat out big zombie monsters, or a deck that spams floodgates. Not to say these were all meta decks(they weren't) but there was still room for doing cool things.

Fellas help me out, I wanna get into yugioh but I have only played several (single player) yugioh games when I was a kid. I know monsters and special summons and trap and spell cards, but shit like Xyz and synchros and whatever else the fricks is all new to me.
Is there an easy basic cheap deck that I can make for me to learn the game and battle other weird decks that I have no idea what they are doing?

Solo Mode has lots of loaner decks you can try out, as does the current event. The Ninja structure deck is pretty good to start off with if you want something you can take into ranked.
What's the point of making literal handtraps with NO INCENTIVE to set them?
Imperm is good because it has a slightly better effect if you set it. Evenly is outright worse, and this card is completely useless set on the field.
Tell me anon, what staples are you going to negate with this card? It doesn't stop a resolved Maxx "C" and just locks you out of Maxx "C" for the duel.

You know the typical Branded line dumps Bystial Lubellion (level 8 light dragon) and Albion the Branded Dragon (level 8 dark dragon). Albion then sets Branded Banishment which can revive the Albion and fuse those two together to make a triple Omni negate.

synchro feels like the weakest this event since so many synchro decks rely on links for combos / extensions / recovery. xyz / fusion still have access to pmuch the entirety of their main pieces
Synchrons are at full power though
they're the exception and not the rule: mannadium / shs (the best synchro decks in the format) both rely on links / fusions, the same goes for infernoble, swordsoul is fine but losing the tenyi links when fusions/xyz can do their thing unimpeded hurts, punk / gold pride have synchro endboards but rely on fusion / xyz to reach them, so on, so forth
Maybe if you're playing old slop but the new Synchro decks are more powerful but lock you into only Synchro. Shit like T.G. doesn't actually need Trident Launcher anymore. It has Over Dragonar now. Red Dragon's serachers lock you. Synchrons lock you. Really, they lost nothing but a few bits of Snake-Eye.

Unless your deck can get to lethal through two handtraps, it's not a better hand. The problem is that snake eyes in particular can end up being unphazed by, or plus off of hand traps. The bigger issue that video doesn't address is that board breakers dont actually break boards any more due to new stuff with graveyard recursion, because the arms race hasn't needed to go that far until now. Congrats, you tried to play into a snake eyes board until you could drnm their flamberge. If you have any gas left enjoy dealing with their grind game, unless you have a called by or some other negate ready.

Mirror swordknight in the grave to negate a monster effect. And either of the chimera fusions can bring it back from the grave/banishment, in case baronne does get to pop, or that other level 10 banishes it.
I send it with chimera the illusion beast, then revive it on my opponent's turn with chimera the king of phantom beasts. You could also bring it back with berfomet if you happen to have it hand, fusing it and berfomet.
How do you even summon this thing, I realized too late in the Chimera deck this is the actual boss, but I can't figure out how to get it on the field outside of Tribute Summon
gazelle grabs any illusion when fused off and berf barfs out any illusion from graveyard, the fusions also can barf out any of the archetypes types as a banish effect as well but you usually use that for floodgates like end of anubis or barrier statue . anyway read homie read

Really gimmicky Primal Seed FTK loops that any sane opponent will scoop to long before you put this guy in your pend zone. I guess you could run it in a deck where you just want a free level 8 guy, since I wanna say the pendulum effect doesn't require you to add a differently named monster to your face up ED. Honestly though some royals are just kinda shitty, like I have a royal Cyberse Quantum Dragon that I'm pretty sure is always a worse synchro 7 than Wind Pegasus even in cyberse piles that want to synchro summon.
Pendulum Evolution will be able to search him out when that comes out, most likely in next months pack.

Pend magician spiked massively in power thanks to have easy access to 2 bodies and more searchers. Generic support really do jackshit.
I always see people doing well with Pend Magicians, yet whenever I try em I usually struggle to get going through disruption, even simple handtraps. Even worse if I just brick outright which seems to happen more than it used to though that's just bad luck.
Because you need search cards and do some workarounds, even if mean loop electrumite, searching dissolver and harmonizer is almost mandatory.
Darkwurm is goat discard fodder and magician can be searched by nearly everything on deck, which compress ton of slots.
I guess I'll try again, for a while I was using those curtain raisers and Odd-Eyes Butler to get off the ground easier, but consistency was still pretty off. I'll have to research the deck more.
Don't use raiser, shit can be bricky as frick, pend off from links is excellent but lot of times you need pend from hand.
Smaller boards can be okay long as you get decent amount of disruption, never doubt some pendulumgraph PPM going off.
Shid I actually forgot about pendulum call, I used to use it when I started playing MD (Pend Magicians is literally my first deck ever). But then I started netdecking like a tool cause I wanted to get stronger and none of them used it.
Dracoslayer is currently better than magician, help that deck is tad more... sloppy due ton of monsters to drop on field.

the rest have wacky combo lines that end in the same 4 generic bosses or are albaz (every other card is UR, good luck poorgay)
if you want the best combo deck that ends in the same 4 generic bosses pick up snake-eyes and diabellestar
practice in solo until you can make a good endboard from most hands

Mikanko is a very good go second deck, in a BO1 format where nobody really prepares for it, its honestly one of the easiest decks to win with, also allows you to spectate and observe a wealth of enemy decks since you'll only play second.
Albaz piles (Branded despia, branded bystial or whatever you want to call it) is a deck with a ton of recursive effects, many plan Bs and a very bulky engine that can be used in other decks. It's mid-range as it doesn't have a lot of interuption per turn but is just very hard to put down.
Labrynth single handedly makes traps relevant, it's either played with a lot of furnitures, a lot of traps, and/or paired with other engines such as resonator, unchained or dogmatika. Extremely versatile deck.
Mathmech relies on the most busted effect monster in the game (Circular) to put up a decent amount of interactions and easily swing for game next turn.
Purrely makes you sit on a tower with a non-OPT bounce, it received new support recently.
Same for R-Ace, received support, relies on setting 4 powerful spell/traps from deck for a ton of interaction, and decent recursion. If you play it, be mindful you're gonna want the diabellstar engine which represents 6 to 11 Craft-only URS (+ promethean princess) depending on how big you want it to be, but it shouldnt be a problem with 10k gems, and makes you craft the most relevant engine in the game rn so...
Tearlaments is a graveyard based deck with access to many powerful fusion, synchro and xyz monsters that allow for a ton of flexibility on how you build it, itd ability to keep playing on both turns is extremely notable and disruptive. Post-nerfs it has become a deck with a moderate skill floor, with one of the highest skill ceilings.
If you're into combo decks, look at Mannadium, Superheavy Samurai, Infernoble and Rikka. A deck to look out for in the near future is Salamangreat (has both a structure and support coming)

The people who complain about infinite negates in modern don't understand that it's fundamentally the same as Day 1 Yugioh.
The game was only "good" for about half a decade, starting around Edison and ending with DUEA, and ironically not because of Pendulum.

Hard to pin it down. Old Yugioh spans a long time period at this point. And the old metas were not as figured out as they are now. Also the average middle school kid did not have a meta deck. Also it depends on if you mean OCG vs TCG because OCG had a far different start with the TCG starting a few years later meaning they skipped how the game was at the earliest.
Even before archetypes released there were still unique decks built around different synergies. Whether it be a deck that abuses cards like Blade Rabbit and Dream Clown or a deck that uses Giant Rats and Pyramid Turtles to cheat out big zombie monsters, or a deck that spams floodgates. Not to say these were all meta decks(they weren't) but there was still room for doing cool things.
At the end of the day most boomers remember yugioh as it is because they played low powered decks with their friends or one of the handheld games where you could win with weaker decks against the computer.
I remember as a kid me and a friend of mine went to a local tournament at a comic book store and we had a miserable time since the older folks there where playing to win and all we had was a starter deck with most random cards thrown in

Fellas help me out, I wanna get into yugioh but I have only played several (single player) yugioh games when I was a kid. I know monsters and special summons and trap and spell cards, but shit like Xyz and synchros and whatever else the fricks is all new to me.
Is there an easy basic cheap deck that I can make for me to learn the game and battle other weird decks that I have no idea what they are doing?

Solo Mode has lots of loaner decks you can try out, as does the current event. The Ninja structure deck is pretty good to start off with if you want something you can take into ranked.
