Fuse from deck is inherently dishonest, but Branded Fusion takes it to the next level by having no other requirements like your opponent controlling a monater, and also being used in an archetype where everything has GY advantage.

The answer has been proven time and time again to simply run more floodgate spells and traps to compensate. The hip new floodgate right now is Deck Lockdown. It's even seeing play in paper.
Verte has been a complete non-issue since celestial got banned. The problem has been poorly designed deck fusion spells like REF and Fusion Destiny, not Verte himself.

All of these are turn 1 FTK style decks, can't go second at all. They're basically extinct.
The two FTK decks we do have, SHS and Mannadium, are also gimmicky and easy to stop if you know the chokepoint

Because Evenly is bad against Snake-Eyes. Even if you resolve it and banish 1/3 of their engine cards, they still have the remaining 2/3 to OTK you and their handtraps ensure you can't combo off after resolving Evenly.
It's not like Tears, where banishing one of the big Tear fusions with Evenly actually hurt their recovery. Snake-Eyes vomits 15 cards from the main deck per turn and forms an infinite loop with Promethean and Flamberge.
Right below Snake-Eyes you have Rescue Ace, which is running Auroradon turbo alongside Turbulence set 4 pass. Auroradon loses to Nib while Turbulence loses to Evenly, but forcing Nib inactivates Evenly. So the entire Librarian-Savage-Colossus-DPE bullshit is just a huge psyop to bait Nib and resolve Turbulence, the actual wincon
Then, we'll have Fire Kings, which hate Eveny but can recover the entire board twice starting with Ponix.
So the top 3 decks re good against evenly, as are lower tier strategies like Unchained, Vanquish Soul, and Branded. Synchro slop SHS and Mannadium negate it.
What decks are losing to evenly right now? Exotrannies? Not even a rogue deck

Illusion was fricked from the start by Konami refusing to make it a subtype where "neither monster can be destroyed by battle, and neither player takes damage from that battle".
Of all the broken shit in this game, Konami's reluctance to errata older cards, fix typos and other translations is the worst. You can't hold Wizards against that.
I was fine with them never errataing cards, then they did it to shit all over the Goat format stapes.
Then, over the years, they randomly errata other cards like Necrovalley and the Mermail bosses.
Then we randomly got Summon Sorceress back with errata, but none of the other banned cards from MR4. Summon Sorceress is still strong in spite of all that (SP might be the reason why she's back).
If they're willing to do all that, they should be willing to clean up the game. But they're lazy, cheap fricks.

Well if you have room for upstart then running any good staple in its place is probably just better. Nobody plays Upstart anymore unless they have some specific synergy with it like Sky Strikers, Endimion, or Gold Pride.

Galaxy Eyes is light on URs for the event since you don't get to play Solflare anyway.
If you want you can even cheap out on Cipher/X from the structure deck AND Hope Harbinger/Photon Lord and just try to kill people going second with Neo Prime/Prime.
This is what I currently use and then what I would consider core. And here's how I aim to combo with it going first. >summon wally pass >wally summon puppy+catty >puppy summon kalantosa(pop 1), Catty search Pinny or hop Ear/Kerass if you have pinny >pinny synchros with hand to make Locust(optional step) >Locust hand rips 1 then synchros into Accel Synchro Stardust Dragon >ASS Dragon then resummons Pinny and makes a lvl 10 synchro(usually Satellite Warrior to pop 3)
If you start with Rescue Cat or Obedience Schooled you summon Kalantosa+Wally(+Kittytail if you Obedience schooled, but there's no actually good 3rd target that I know of), then you make Joyous Melffy. Joyous resummons them from the GY on the opponent's turn so you can do the above combo+use Kalantosa twice.
You can also use Melffy of the Forest to search Wally and do the above, but with Forest giving you an awkward negate. If a bounce is better than multiple pops then make Merry Melffy with Hop Ear+Kalantosa instead of searching Pinny Merry then summons Joyous who returns your 1 material Forest to summon Kalantosa from the GY to activate again. Or you can make Arc Light with Pinny/Hop Ear if the floodgate/omni shuts them down hard.
Turn 3 free style it usually with the link monsters+Ronin aiming to OTK.
At least stick one copy of Gamma Burst or Closed Forest. Melffy got problems ending games and Gamma Burst and Closed Forest is perfect to close the gap.
Also you're missing Mannequin Cat in your ED.

The deck in its current state in MD isn't good, the cards are. There just aren't enough of them. You have 1 Fenrir, 2 Unicorn, 1 field spell. So yeah, if the opponent goes first and draws one of those they're in a good spot. But otherwise lol.

Because Evenly is bad against Snake-Eyes. Even if you resolve it and banish 1/3 of their engine cards, they still have the remaining 2/3 to OTK you and their handtraps ensure you can't combo off after resolving Evenly.
It's not like Tears, where banishing one of the big Tear fusions with Evenly actually hurt their recovery. Snake-Eyes vomits 15 cards from the main deck per turn and forms an infinite loop with Promethean and Flamberge.
Right below Snake-Eyes you have Rescue Ace, which is running Auroradon turbo alongside Turbulence set 4 pass. Auroradon loses to Nib while Turbulence loses to Evenly, but forcing Nib inactivates Evenly. So the entire Librarian-Savage-Colossus-DPE bullshit is just a huge psyop to bait Nib and resolve Turbulence, the actual wincon
Then, we'll have Fire Kings, which hate Eveny but can recover the entire board twice starting with Ponix.
So the top 3 decks re good against evenly, as are lower tier strategies like Unchained, Vanquish Soul, and Branded. Synchro slop SHS and Mannadium negate it.
What decks are losing to evenly right now? Exotrannies? Not even a rogue deck

This is what I currently use and then what I would consider core. And here's how I aim to combo with it going first.

>puppy summon kalantosa(pop 1), Catty search Pinny or hop Ear/Kerass if you have pinny
>pinny synchros with hand to make Locust(optional step)
>Locust hand rips 1 then synchros into Accel Synchro Stardust Dragon
>ASS Dragon then resummons Pinny and makes a lvl 10 synchro(usually Satellite Warrior to pop 3)
If you start with Rescue Cat or Obedience Schooled you summon Kalantosa+Wally(+Kittytail if you Obedience schooled, but there's no actually good 3rd target that I know of), then you make Joyous Melffy. Joyous resummons them from the GY on the opponent's turn so you can do the above combo+use Kalantosa twice.
You can also use Melffy of the Forest to search Wally and do the above, but with Forest giving you an awkward negate. If a bounce is better than multiple pops then make Merry Melffy with Hop Ear+Kalantosa instead of searching Pinny Merry then summons Joyous who returns your 1 material Forest to summon Kalantosa from the GY to activate again. Or you can make Arc Light with Pinny/Hop Ear if the floodgate/omni shuts them down hard.
Turn 3 free style it usually with the link monsters+Ronin aiming to OTK.
Add one Spright Blue, one Jet, one starter and pic related. Gamma Burst is very fricking good in Melffy

Apollousa can't negate spells, you can just destroy her with raigeki or steal her with TTT or just summon a monster with 2500 attack and destroy her and then summon your effect monsters in main phase 2.
