I just installed after not playing for over 10 years and I'm doing the solo stuff. Any cheap but fun deck suggestions? My favorite stuff from back then is pretty dead since a lot of the key cards are now banned thanks to link monsters (namely level eater and dandylion).
cheap is a sliding scale, depending on how much you already have, how much gems you have, what selection is available currently, and if you care about meta relevancy.
Assuming you are comfortable with synchro spam, from level eater shennanigans, id suggest blackwings structure since thats a pretty solid investment all around and has a pretty good upgrade path.
If you just want to dick around with 0 investment total, NR decks are available, and can be surprisingly strong, though temper your expectations for them. They are basically free after all.
I played plant synchro in 2013 when spellbooks and dragon rulers were everywhere so meta relevancy isn't too important unless I'm required to have a meta deck to earn gems

Staples are a great use of UR since you can fit them into a bunch of different decks. Make sure you buy the card bundles if you haven't also.

You are not required to have a meta deck to earn gems at all. Surprisingly this game is pretty lenient on the whole gem thing, so a lot of people (including me) just sandbag on lower ranks and just play whatever. We lose like a couple hundred gems for not going to legend, but honestly who cares, we get enough as is.
As for the UR cp, go for it. Staples are primarily what you will spend your cp on since you never get to pull staples.

You really just need Full Armor and Nothung to be playable. And if you want you can splash Full Armor+Sharnga into any deck with a lvl 8. Not usually the best idea to do, but pretty good for if you're lacking the better staples and extra deck options to round out a deck.

it really depends what you want to do with it. turboing 3 tax dragons doesn't need anything extra except nothung but if you want to set up disruptions the ED will get really expensive.

Lab is the reason I started playing master duel and yugioh in the first place so it was really nice to luck into my favorite girl when I first started playing. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to get lady royal too...
Super Polymerization hands down. Dark Magical Circle is a close second because its the only DM Royal I have not counting the Anniversary Dark Magician.
There's a leaked asset for a royal ticket, but I really doubt it'll just let you select any card. It'll probably just be a special royal pack that has 1 card in it and either has every UR in the master packs, or some pre-selected amount of possible URs it could be.

Why does my Branded deck keeps getting nerfed while Tears and Sprights and Exo Sisters get no hits at all? Every patch they hit Branded even though you literally just need an Ash Blossom to stop the entire deck.

The Magnifica combo is exactly 5 summons, and a Nibiru on your field (or a Lava Golem or a kaiju) present additional problems because several Exosister cards require you to have only Exosisters or xyz monsters on field.

Grass is NEVER the entire gameplan, it's just a card that hyperconsistent graveyard focused decks can run without many issues. And most of the time it's not even worth it, now that Ishizu Millers and easy access to Chaos Ruler are a thing. Unironically? Grass has been powercrept. Grass was literally meta when it first came out, MDbabby. As a matter of fact the opposite happens of what you're saying, Grass becomes good, more people play Grass decks, THEN a deck emerges that is not only good against other decks, but also good against other Grass decks regardless of it they can actually resolve Grass in a meaningful way. This is exactly what happened with 60 card Paleo Frogs, and it won a YCS when Zoo was still legal. Grass is bullshit.
That shit is really true. Normally the honeymoon period for fotm decks lasts way longer in MD, this time Branded usage declined pretty fast. It was one thing previously where it was above and beyond the best deck but right now I don't even think it is top 3. Obviously very strong still but I honestly thought this was the best deck of the format at the start, now I know it's definitely Spright. Branded doesn't deserve any hits right now, it should be getting back more cards. I'd take Branded Fusion at 1 if we could have Opening and Aluber back at 3, but MD is just blind copying OCG hits when they're not relevant to this format.
Branded fusion to 2 is such a shit hit barely a hit to branded despia bystial the deck being spammed but really annoying for rouge decks that use the engine

I never had a problem with decks splashing Branded Fusion as an engine because almost every deck that did so was worse than just playing Branded as the primary engine. There's no justification for banning Branded Fusion, it's an actual shitter cope. You could bring back Aluber and Opening to 3, and keep Branded Fusion at 3, and absolutely nothing would change in terms of the standings of the top decks.

Dramaturge (unfortunately) has made its way out of Branded decks. There's no space and the negate is only good against ignition effects and some triggers. I also don't accept that Opening is so good and shouldn't go back to unlimited just because Tears benefit, when Tears should just be getting hit more. You can make the same argument for Branded Fusion because they dump Tears not named Reinoheart.

You still use Despia even in Bystial builds, it's just cut down. You still play 1 to 2 Tragedy and Ad Lib. I wouldn't even call Branded Bystial bricky, it's more like you just don't have the insane consistency that the Frightfur package gave you.

Ad Lib is still played, just not the focus anymore. You could cut it if you really needed the space. Tragedy, I see a lot of people want to play 1 of, I disagree and stay at 2. Not just in a deck build sense of you always want 1 in deck and are scared of drawing the one of, but playing 2 Tragedy and 2 Merc let's you snowball in draw power with Allure. It's still really powerful and lets you dig for Called By and Crossout. Just my opinion though.

I'm aware of that play, the "Branded player performs alchemy to add Branded Fusion to their hand" combo. I'm just against making a deck feel shit to play, sometimes, just because some frickass thinks semi limiting is a good way to nerf decks. I want my starters at 3. But as much as I like how nonsensical the Granguignol combo is, it's a two card combo for a card you want as one other part of a two card combo and you sacrifice future follow up from Retribution or adding another Branded Spell/Trap to your endboard. Almost all of my decks have been hit one way or another during the past months, it's hilarious the amount of damage Ishizu Tears did to the entire game.
To be honest OCG Konami is mega based for not folding to bunch of trashcan complainers and keeping maxxx C legal. So many people in charge of managing games just fall to bunch of reddit tier crybabies... but Konami refuses to kneel, and instead they let people enjoy experiencing their vision of the game. The entire wind-up strategy centers around the fact that they can loop non-OPT effects to generate basically infinite material. They used to do this to loop hunter and delete their opponent's entire hand, but without that they can make whatever links they want, including a number of generic synchros/XYZs depending on the build. They remind me of those gimmicky youtube combo decks where, if uninterrupted, they can make some absurd endboard.
It's about as complicated as any other TCG. Be warned, there's a lot of reading on modern cards, but eventually you recognize patterns in archetypes and can shortcut 90% of the text. Real yugioh is a lot faster and more complex than the show. Especially if you were watching GX, most of the duelists in that show were using legitimately unplayable decks.
The current tier 1 decks Tearlaments and Sprights have left rotation so the only other good deck right now is Branded but that’s a super expensive deck
If you’re just want to nerd out about old cards, You can buy 3x dark magician structure deck for cheap and wreck bronze players with it

NTA, but about a week ago some Herogay had a meltdown about how his Plasma got outed by someone normal summoning Mercourier, punching it into Plasma, did a long combo to grab Branded Fusion and then he used Despian Comedy to dodge Plasma's Skill Drain for the final time. He went full combo completely in the GY and the Herogay went full schizo in one of these threads.

Unsure. For the time being its still very good, and will continue to get better with new support. The new dark world fusion for instance gives tears another way to negate evenly which isnt named exterio.

Most people know how to counter Quaeritis. Just ram it with lv8+ fusion or spin it back to the ED to stop its effect. Luluwalillith is a better target for Granguignol tbhdesu

Lol, the current Branded builds are probably the second most complicated of the top decks right now to play. Tear is now gambleslop, Spright is easy to pilot but has deck expression, but also one build is far above the others, Floo is braindead, PUNK variants are mostly linear, and Dragon Link is probably the only deck that's harder to actually play well and has more lines.
Alba Lenatus and Titaniklad are both memes that really don't fit into an ED as tight as that of a Branded deck.
Titaniklad is useful in other decks, but kind of outdated. It used to be good in the mirror but you don't really win the mirror that way any more. Alba Lenatus isn't required but it comes up sometimes. If you pulled 3 Albion, maybe you don't really need it, but if you have 2 Albion and 1 Alba Lenatus already, no need to roll for more. Sometimes you'll be in a grind game where you already sent Brigrand and Albion last turn, and you can send another two from ED and you will want the Spell/Trap search of Albion AND Branded Fusion for more followup. It's rare but it does happen. I have gotten by without 3 Albion just fine but the Alba Lenatus is nice to have. Also there's the whole contact Fusion with your opponent's shit thing that also comes up sometimes. Nice little bonus.
swordsoul is alot of fun how can a deck be so versatile, admittedly not the best but it's always there, relevant and topping tourneys.

I just installed after not playing for over 10 years and I'm doing the solo stuff. Any cheap but fun deck suggestions? My favorite stuff from back then is pretty dead since a lot of the key cards are now banned thanks to link monsters (namely level eater and dandylion).

I played plant synchro in 2013 when spellbooks and dragon rulers were everywhere so meta relevancy isn't too important unless I'm required to have a meta deck to earn gems

Staples are a great use of UR since you can fit them into a bunch of different decks. Make sure you buy the card bundles if you haven't also.
By the way, if you feel like playing Plants again, Rikka Sunavalon is basically 'Plant Link' the deck and is very strong right now
You are not required to have a meta deck to earn gems at all. Surprisingly this game is pretty lenient on the whole gem thing, so a lot of people (including me) just sandbag on lower ranks and just play whatever. We lose like a couple hundred gems for not going to legend, but honestly who cares, we get enough as is.
As for the UR cp, go for it. Staples are primarily what you will spend your cp on since you never get to pull staples.
the blackwing SD needs several ED cards like nothung, full armor, hot red and others so there's a fairly sizeable UR tax to make the deck more than just "playable" for a bunch of cards you won't likely be using in many other decks
You really just need Full Armor and Nothung to be playable. And if you want you can splash Full Armor+Sharnga into any deck with a lvl 8. Not usually the best idea to do, but pretty good for if you're lacking the better staples and extra deck options to round out a deck.

it really depends what you want to do with it. turboing 3 tax dragons doesn't need anything extra except nothung but if you want to set up disruptions the ED will get really expensive.
At least red hot and borrel savage are splashable in synchro decks.

cheap is a sliding scale, depending on how much you already have, how much gems you have, what selection is available currently, and if you care about meta relevancy.
Assuming you are comfortable with synchro spam, from level eater shennanigans, id suggest blackwings structure since thats a pretty solid investment all around and has a pretty good upgrade path.
If you just want to dick around with 0 investment total, NR decks are available, and can be surprisingly strong, though temper your expectations for them. They are basically free after all.

There's a leaked asset for a royal ticket, but I really doubt it'll just let you select any card. It'll probably just be a special royal pack that has 1 card in it and either has every UR in the master packs, or some pre-selected amount of possible URs it could be.

Grass can never be meta, by design. The moment a grass deck becomes meta and everyone starts playing it. Grass becomes a brick because everyone is on 60 cards.
Additionally, Grass decks are NEVER broken because of Grass. Grass is a crazy card that can potentially win you the game if you resolve it, but due to the nature of Grass decks actually being able to draw and resolve it in incredibly inconsistent. Not to mention your deck being 60 cards is a big telegraph for your opponent in and of itself. Grass is NEVER the entire gameplan, it's just a card that hyperconsistent graveyard focused decks can run without many issues. And most of the time it's not even worth it, now that Ishizu Millers and easy access to Chaos Ruler are a thing. Unironically? Grass has been powercrept. Sure it feels bad to get sacked by, but if you've ever actually played a Grass deck you'd know just how much of a gimmick it really is.

As a matter of fact the opposite happens of what you're saying, Grass becomes good, more people play Grass decks, THEN a deck emerges that is not only good against other decks, but also good against other Grass decks regardless of it they can actually resolve Grass in a meaningful way. This is exactly what happened with 60 card Paleo Frogs, and it won a YCS when Zoo was still legal. Grass is bullshit.

That shit is really true. Normally the honeymoon period for fotm decks lasts way longer in MD, this time Branded usage declined pretty fast. It was one thing previously where it was above and beyond the best deck but right now I don't even think it is top 3. Obviously very strong still but I honestly thought this was the best deck of the format at the start, now I know it's definitely Spright. Branded doesn't deserve any hits right now, it should be getting back more cards. I'd take Branded Fusion at 1 if we could have Opening and Aluber back at 3, but MD is just blind copying OCG hits when they're not relevant to this format.

I never had a problem with decks splashing Branded Fusion as an engine because almost every deck that did so was worse than just playing Branded as the primary engine. There's no justification for banning Branded Fusion, it's an actual shitter cope. You could bring back Aluber and Opening to 3, and keep Branded Fusion at 3, and absolutely nothing would change in terms of the standings of the top decks.

Dramaturge (unfortunately) has made its way out of Branded decks. There's no space and the negate is only good against ignition effects and some triggers. I also don't accept that Opening is so good and shouldn't go back to unlimited just because Tears benefit, when Tears should just be getting hit more. You can make the same argument for Branded Fusion because they dump Tears not named Reinoheart.

You still use Despia even in Bystial builds, it's just cut down. You still play 1 to 2 Tragedy and Ad Lib. I wouldn't even call Branded Bystial bricky, it's more like you just don't have the insane consistency that the Frightfur package gave you.
Ad Lib is still played, just not the focus anymore. You could cut it if you really needed the space. Tragedy, I see a lot of people want to play 1 of, I disagree and stay at 2. Not just in a deck build sense of you always want 1 in deck and are scared of drawing the one of, but playing 2 Tragedy and 2 Merc let's you snowball in draw power with Allure. It's still really powerful and lets you dig for Called By and Crossout. Just my opinion though.

I'm aware of that play, the "Branded player performs alchemy to add Branded Fusion to their hand" combo. I'm just against making a deck feel shit to play, sometimes, just because some frickass thinks semi limiting is a good way to nerf decks. I want my starters at 3. But as much as I like how nonsensical the Granguignol combo is, it's a two card combo for a card you want as one other part of a two card combo and you sacrifice future follow up from Retribution or adding another Branded Spell/Trap to your endboard. It's a backup play, not really "full combo". Also

Almost all of my decks have been hit one way or another during the past months, it's hilarious the amount of damage Ishizu Tears did to the entire game.
To be honest OCG Konami is mega based for not folding to bunch of trashcan complainers and keeping maxxx C legal. So many people in charge of managing games just fall to bunch of reddit tier crybabies... but Konami refuses to kneel, and instead they let people enjoy experiencing their vision of the game. That makes me hopeful about future of the game

The entire wind-up strategy centers around the fact that they can loop non-OPT effects to generate basically infinite material. They used to do this to loop hunter and delete their opponent's entire hand, but without that they can make whatever links they want, including a number of generic synchros/XYZs depending on the build. They remind me of those gimmicky youtube combo decks where, if uninterrupted, they can make some absurd endboard.

It's about as complicated as any other TCG. Be warned, there's a lot of reading on modern cards, but eventually you recognize patterns in archetypes and can shortcut 90% of the text. Real yugioh is a lot faster and more complex than the show. Especially if you were watching GX, most of the duelists in that show were using legitimately unplayable decks.
The meta is complete cancer at the moment, but you should be fine in the lower ranks.
The current tier 1 decks Tearlaments and Sprights have left rotation so the only other good deck right now is Branded but that’s a super expensive deck

Lol, the current Branded builds are probably the second most complicated of the top decks right now to play. Tear is now gambleslop, Spright is easy to pilot but has deck expression, but also one build is far above the others, Floo is braindead, PUNK variants are mostly linear, and Dragon Link is probably the only deck that's harder to actually play well and has more lines.
Titaniklad is useful in other decks, but kind of outdated. It used to be good in the mirror but you don't really win the mirror that way any more. Alba Lenatus isn't required but it comes up sometimes. If you pulled 3 Albion, maybe you don't really need it, but if you have 2 Albion and 1 Alba Lenatus already, no need to roll for more. Sometimes you'll be in a grind game where you already sent Brigrand and Albion last turn, and you can send another two from ED and you will want the Spell/Trap search of Albion AND Branded Fusion for more followup. It's rare but it does happen. I have gotten by without 3 Albion just fine but the Alba Lenatus is nice to have. Also there's the whole contact Fusion with your opponent's shit thing that also comes up sometimes. Nice little bonus.

swordsoul is alot of fun how can a deck be so versatile, admittedly not the best but it's always there, relevant and topping tourneys.
Invest in the chinksoul.
