Actually it's kind of weird to be reminded how few types there are I come from MTG which I believe had way more, also in MTG monsters could have 2 types usually a type for what sort of creature they are and a type for their "class" there's also a handful of cards with 3 types
Because they might make something like demonic flame which would be DARK/Pyro type.
The same deal like how pic-related exist that is belong to Aqua-type but with FIRE attribute. So it's fair to create Pyro-type as well.

Gren Maju was printed on a time when removing from play was very rare so of course nowadays you can just throw a 4k ATK monster on the field after using Desires once.

It usually has the most disappointing effects and monsters. You can even see this by the elemental charmers, you can pick water, wind and earth and be reasonable sure that you will get something worth.
Earth usually has better stats and usually some cool effects.

Fire? If you are lucky you get some destruction and burn damage.
It was FIRE before they finally noticed it and release shitton of good FIRE support. Currently it's WIND that lacks decent generic support.
No, good decks that just happen to lock you into WIND doesn't count. There's a lot of good WIND deck but they tend not to be generic support for WIND attribute.
Unfortunately, since we haven't got Eria Channeler yet WATER, and possible LIGHT and DARK will get more support before WIND does.
I wonder if they knew the game was gonna live so long if they would have had more different types of undead instead of just an undead type, support is starting to get a bit crazy
zombies don't really have that much variety to warrant a different type. At best you have ghosts and zombies as different takes on the same creature, and "undead" encompasses a bunch of the "dead rising" phenomena such as jiangshis, vampires, voodoo zombies, plague zombies, etc.
It isn't like illusionist which has actual foundation on the manga. In fact we have way too many types, shit like rock, pyro and sea serpent are too redundant. 90% of rocks are earth, 90% of pyros are fire, 90% of sea serpents are water. If they felt the need for an "elemental" kind of type for each attribute then "elemental" would have been a way better choice
Man an elemental type would have been cool, probably too late now, maybe you could do it for creatures that embodied all 4 elements but at this point it's probably better to do elemental as an archtype
I mean since type is a thing how do you suppose they categorize rock, aquatic and flame creatures? Generalizing them into elementals doesn't really explain them well. Animals like turtle, crabs, etc and then living statues or castle can't be described as elementals which is more akin to pure nature spirit/energy.

I don't get it. I guess your issue is the redundant support that would be better for FIRE instead of Pyro from aesthetic standpoint? Again my point is how else are you gonna categorize something like pic related into type?
Besides at this point the game does need more type variety like how Wyrm exist besides Dragon. In this case, when in the future FIRE support gets too good that'd limit new card design, they'd need to specify more for fire-related monsters/archtype, which is where Pyro support would come in.

I already explained my grievance, what's so hard to understand? Pyro has functionally no reason to exist, because it's an offshot of FIRE. Literally every monster that's a Pyro monster can become anything else and keep its FIRE designation. I already told you how you would group monsters like this, with an "Elemental" type, but you seem to have a very dumb argument against the existence of an "Elemental" type, as if types aren't supposed to only be a category of monsters, not an unifying factor.
What does make Jerry Beans Man a plant monster instead of a warrior, while Rose Paladin is a warrior? What makes Dark Rose Fairy a Fairy instead of a Plant? Type is not supposed to be an all-encompasing category, it's only supposed to reflect some qualities of the monster.

What's exactly wrong with limiting card design to a specific attribute and type combination? In this case, if you wanted to do so, you could limit the support to "FIRE/Elemental" monsters, which functionally achieves the same effect as limiting the support for Pyro monsters in the current game. I'm tired of everything being a fricking type soup and having archetypes that need to ride on the coattails of Tri-Brigrade/Uni-Zombie/Oviraptor because they refuse to actually give them good archetypical cards.

This has less anything to do with functionality and more about carrying old design where variety, support, tactic, etc wasn't really thought out back then. When Yugioh first started it was full of useless low-stat vanilla monsters meant to be played like RNGfest and they put whatever types and attributes on cards for the sake of it. Pyro already existed back then.
Maybe I'm stupid for thinking you only complained about aesthetic choice because duh, why would anyone complain gameplay-design error when they clearly never re-construct the game from how it started and instead they just add more and band-aid some mistakes? It'a like crying over spilt milk, unless you REALLY want them to reconstruct the game just to get rid of Pyro and gives a lot of monsters a type change or something. Why not do something with Dragon/Wyrm-type monsters and archtypes as well? Since they clearly drove themselves into the corner with tons of support due to lack of insight yet they can't stop making draconic monsters and refuse to categorize them into something else, not even Reptile.

Same, a lot of them are light and dark and what isn't is a pretty even mix, my main single attribute decks are Shiranui, Harpies and Dark Magician and even those usually include at least a few cards outside the attribute
I don't play water exclusively but I like umi control mainly for that. I hope it gets more support so its not just normal summon kairyu-shin pass. Better support for legendary fisherman, phantasm spiral or another daedalus retrain would be cool.
I feel the same way, I really like when things all stick to their archetype and don't use tons of generic shit. Its probably why I'm looking forward to the new RDA stuff so much since the deck will basically be nothing but RDA cards besides like dis pater.
If you wanted to feel like a Gym Leader, you'd be playing a monotype deck, not a monoattribute one. In that regard, I still want to build a competent Spellcasters deck.
I deliberately do the opposite, I'm trying to make sure I have decks for all 6 attributes, along with decks for my favorite types.
My current problem is that Fire has basically just Salamangreats and I'm not interested in Links.
Play the Solo Mode to ease you into the new mechanics, they're also a good source of gems for beginners. I hadn't played since before Synchro was a thing and I learned pretty fast.

Link Evolution uses a previous master rule that restricted all extra deck monsters to the extra zones, but that's no longer the case
xyz monsters are summoned by using two or more monsters on the field with the same level. the monsters are layered under the xyz card as materials that can be detached for various effects
konami also introduced ways to cheat xyz monsters onto the field by allowing some of them to be layered on top of other xyz monsters
there're some generic ones that fit on many decks

Links are basically just Tribute summons but treated as Special Summons because the old Normal Summon tributes are way too slow. 2 Link monster needs two 'tributes', 3 Link needs 3, etc. Also you can use a Link 2 monster as 2 Link material (like imagine if Dark Magician was treated as 2 tributes because it required 2 tributes in the first place)
There are exceptions and some have their own specific requirements and interactions but for the most part that's all you need to consider.
Pendulums can be safely ignored until you're curious. Nobody plays them anyway
Beaters and gay attack point boosts are not better (objectively or by new player friendliness) than UNEFFECTED, high consistency, and banishing spot removal

you have an omninegate, and you can fall back on the existing dragon support which is superior to the existing spellcaster support

Are you gonna pretend that pend magicians aren't good? DM is infinitely more new player friendly, comes packed with value, and is playable in most events. You really haven't played against a proper maids deck. Even pure they have a lot of disruption tools; Spheres is a bounce and special summon from deck, Tyding and Downtime are bounces with extra utility, House is a pop that synergizes with their "return to hand" gamestyle and they have a 3500 ATK omninegate.
Most importantly, they don't have a card that kills their own entire board when popped.

Depends: Are you rolling on the next pack? If yes and you get lucky by rolling three Lady and Big Welcome, you can easily craft one Lovely and 2-3 Welcome and build yourself a pretty much fully online Labrynth deck, but you should eventually invest on 3 N'tss too.
Even my 60 card bystial blue eyes pile is more consistant than regular dragon link. You need to stuff the deck with discard outlets and foolish burials or else you'll brick.

Honestly, it's just as important to rank up. Infinite summons crazy combo decks are far more common at low ranks than high ranks, because at low ranks they feel far stronger. People let you go first, opponents have fewer hand traps+board breakers, and even if you bricked you can probably just try again next turn, so the endboard really does become almost the only thing that matters. Also some lower ranked players just shotgun all forms of interaction, so they easily get baited in a deck with 2-3 interrupts and then get wrecked, but if they have as many interrupts as the opponent has cards, then that doesn't matter.
Once people start ranking up then the crazy combo decks start to be a lot weaker, so they switch to other stuff.

This is true, because a floodgate is meant to stop water from flooding everywhere, and Ocean Dragon Lord - Kairyu-Shin fills the field with so much water that you don't have enough land to control more than 1 non-water. It's literally the opposite.

Oh, ok. Well the obvious first thing to do(other than remove all the SOULful cards that I'm sure he wants to keep like Magic Cyllinder/All the Fruit Magician Girls) would be to increase all the cards you want to see in your opening hand to 3, and the ones you don't want to draw(like Dark Magician himself) to as few as you can reasonably run. So like Dark Magician to 2, Thousand Knives to 1(should really be at 0, but it's SOVL), and cards like Magician's Rod, and Soul Servant which get you to the cards you need to 3.
Also I see one of his Dark Magicians is foil which means he pulled from their pack. They have a structure deck now which would be a cheaper way of getting the missing cards, and he can dismantle his current copies to get more UR points by replacing them with the ones from the structure deck. Also it has some new good cards like Timaeus the United Dragon.
As someone who has tried to run magician girls in paper, I feel for the guy. I really do, everything about them is based except for actually playing them.

You're probably not going to stop them from searching, so you have to disrupt their combo rather than try to just Ash them to keep them away from a starter. Either you keep all Blackwings off the field so they can't summon the ones that special from hand if a BW is on the field, or you stop Vata(UR bird dude with a white banchou coat) and hope they can't find another line.
This is why stun decks are important for the meta. Too many decks are allowed to run decks of pure gas and then people wonder why their single Ash doesn't stop them.

It's decent but it gives up the highroll of tears to add more playability.
Branded dies to Ash and Tears are super bricky now if they miss mills or get BYSTIALLED. So the idea is you always at least have a plan B going on. I still think both are better separate than combined but I also get how some teargays might get mind broken given some of the bricks i've seen recently.

I think I:P would've been better since you can still use double cross to attach to a rank 2 you control, but this could be a paper player not knowing the elf lines anymore.

zombies don't really have that much variety to warrant a different type. At best you have ghosts and zombies as different takes on the same creature, and "undead" encompasses a bunch of the "dead rising" phenomena such as jiangshis, vampires, voodoo zombies, plague zombies, etc.

In fact we have way too many types, shit like rock, pyro and sea serpent are too redundant. 90% of rocks are earth, 90% of pyros are fire, 90% of sea serpents are water. Besides at this point the game does need more type variety like how Wyrm exist besides Dragon. In this case, when in the future FIRE support gets too good that'd limit new card design, they'd need to specify more for fire-related monsters/archtype, which is where Pyro support would come in.

What's exactly wrong with limiting card design to a specific attribute and type combination? In this case, if you wanted to do so, you could limit the support to "FIRE/Elemental" monsters, which functionally achieves the same effect as limiting the support for Pyro monsters in the current game. I'm tired of everything being a fricking type soup and having archetypes that need to ride on the coattails of Tri-Brigrade/Uni-Zombie/Oviraptor because they refuse to actually give them good archetypical cards.
This has less anything to do with functionality and more about carrying old design where variety, support, tactic, etc wasn't really thought out back then. When Yugioh first started it was full of useless low-stat vanilla monsters meant to be played like RNGfest and they put whatever types and attributes on cards for the sake of it. Pyro already existed back then.
Maybe I'm stupid for thinking you only complained about aesthetic choice because duh, why would anyone complain gameplay-design error when they clearly never re-construct the game from how it started and instead they just add more and band-aid some mistakes? Does anyone else exclusively play decks of their favourite attribute? I only play EARTH decks and it makes me feel like a Pokemon Gym Leader.

I tried the same with WIND but I struggled for the longest time because Gusto sucks. Now the best I can play is pure Speedroid and Lyrilusc.
Yeah I only play Dark decks, probably because I'm mysterious, brooding and a little bit chaotic.
I don't play water exclusively but I like umi control mainly for that. I hope it gets more support so its not just normal summon kairyu-shin pass. Better support for legendary fisherman, phantasm spiral or another daedalus retrain would be cool.

You really haven't played against a proper maids deck. Even pure they have a lot of disruption tools; Spheres is a bounce and special summon from deck, Tyding and Downtime are bounces with extra utility, House is a pop that synergizes with their "return to hand" gamestyle and they have a 3500 ATK omninegate.
Most importantly, they don't have a card that kills their own entire board when popped.

Play the Solo Mode to ease you into the new mechanics, they're also a good source of gems for beginners. I hadn't played since before Synchro was a thing and I learned pretty fast.
other extra deck types (fusion, synchor, xyz) are no longer restricted to being summoned into link monster zones and can be summoned to any zone freely. pendulums got nerfed and can no longer summon their whole extra deck each turn and need link arrows to summon into. also pendulums use the spell/trap zone to set scales instea of their own zone.
Link Evolution uses a previous master rule that restricted all extra deck monsters to the extra zones, but that's no longer the case
xyz monsters are summoned by using two or more monsters on the field with the same level. the monsters are layered under the xyz card as materials that can be detached for various effects
konami also introduced ways to cheat xyz monsters onto the field by allowing some of them to be layered on top of other xyz monsters
there're some generic ones that fit on many decks
pendulums don't matter
links use any monster on the field as material (bar specific restrictions) and can only be summoned to the extra monster zone, or to a zone another link monster points to. their link rating indicates how many monsters you need to use to summon them (link-2 needs 2 monsters, for example)
you can use a single link monster as multiple materials for another link summon (for example, you can summon a link-4 using a link-3 and one more monster)
the majority of decks these days use them, either in-archetype or generic. they're largely responsible for how crazy combos are these days
every summon mechanic has strong decks that represent it, so if you just wanna play synchros you'll be fine (although you'll likely need to splash some links into it)
XYZ is just a new fusion variant that uses two monsters of the same level. The 'overlay' cards thing is just keeping track of how many times they can use their effects. They almost always require you to detach a material so they usually can only use their effect twice before they run out for example.
Links are basically just Tribute summons but treated as Special Summons because the old Normal Summon tributes are way too slow. 2 Link monster needs two 'tributes', 3 Link needs 3, etc. Also you can use a Link 2 monster as 2 Link material (like imagine if Dark Magician was treated as 2 tributes because it required 2 tributes in the first place)
There are exceptions and some have their own specific requirements and interactions but for the most part that's all you need to consider.
Pendulums can be safely ignored until you're curious. Nobody plays them anyway

I'm having a great time.
This game filtered me with the 10 minute turns of watching your opponent set up a board. I kneel.
Run handtraps so you can frick their plays up and force them to pass turn.
Honestly, it's just as important to rank up. Infinite summons crazy combo decks are far more common at low ranks than high ranks, because at low ranks they feel far stronger. People let you go first, opponents have fewer hand traps+board breakers, and even if you bricked you can probably just try again next turn, so the endboard really does become almost the only thing that matters. Also some lower ranked players just shotgun all forms of interaction, so they easily get baited in a deck with 2-3 interrupts and then get wrecked, but if they have as many interrupts as the opponent has cards, then that doesn't matter.
Once people start ranking up then the crazy combo decks start to be a lot weaker, so they switch to other stuff.
FlooCHADS are so fricking based, bros... maybe I should join em

This is true, because a floodgate is meant to stop water from flooding everywhere, and Ocean Dragon Lord - Kairyu-Shin fills the field with so much water that you don't have enough land to control more than 1 non-water. It's literally the opposite.

I'd wait for a few more minutes to see if the opponent is really just slowplaying, and if nothing happens it might've just been a frickup on your game client

Oh, ok. Well the obvious first thing to do(other than remove all the SOULful cards that I'm sure he wants to keep like Magic Cyllinder/All the Fruit Magician Girls) would be to increase all the cards you want to see in your opening hand to 3, and the ones you don't want to draw(like Dark Magician himself) to as few as you can reasonably run. So like Dark Magician to 2, Thousand Knives to 1(should really be at 0, but it's SOVL), and cards like Magician's Rod, and Soul Servant which get you to the cards you need to 3.
Also I see one of his Dark Magicians is foil which means he pulled from their pack. They have a structure deck now which would be a cheaper way of getting the missing cards, and he can dismantle his current copies to get more UR points by replacing them with the ones from the structure deck. Also it has some new good cards like Timaeus the United Dragon.

You're probably not going to stop them from searching, so you have to disrupt their combo rather than try to just Ash them to keep them away from a starter. Either you keep all Blackwings off the field so they can't summon the ones that special from hand if a BW is on the field, or you stop Vata(UR bird dude with a white banchou coat) and hope they can't find another line.
This is why stun decks are important for the meta. Too many decks are allowed to run decks of pure gas and then people wonder why their single Ash doesn't stop them.
My single Ash usually stops them.

It's decent but it gives up the highroll of tears to add more playability.
They have more tools to play solitaire.
Branded dies to Ash and Tears are super bricky now if they miss mills or get BYSTIALLED. So the idea is you always at least have a plan B going on. I still think both are better separate than combined but I also get how some teargays might get mind broken given some of the bricks i've seen recently.

Might've gone for a Sprind/Double cross line. In that case you leave the link point open for Double Cross, and Sprind allows you to get an interruption with Gigantic still on field. I think I:P would've been better since you can still use double cross to attach to a rank 2 you control, but this could be a paper player not knowing the elf lines anymore.
