Endymion is one of scariest deck to face thanks to whole toolbox from mystical beasts and spellcaster. It also have excellent pend effects and unlike other decks that need summon a lot for anything, pend 5 is legit.
Bricky due needing ton of draw engine, but if left unchecked it can create a near complete lockdown on board like that pic.

Combo decks are BETTER in formats with the roach. If you go first, build your board, then drop Maxx C at the start of the opponents turn you literally cannot lose.
Against any deck. Very few decks don't need to special summon at all. Most need at the very least 3 to set up a board and by that point Maxx C has done it's job.
Everyone claiming that the bug is the bane of combo decks has never seen any tier list with it legal.

I like how that second half of the image is supposed to be or presented as a negative or something. I play lots of decks including some heavy combo decks and board breakers aside from Kaijus are so much more preferable to Maxx C. That stupid roach creates so many non-games, none of them are fricking fun. And everyone having to run Called for roach also creates so many non-games where you get to play for fricking free. You have like a 50% chance for any given game to just be one-sided. It's not just the coinflip, it's because of these 5 cards in every single format.

Maxx C is a shitty card that should 100% be banned but one of the best feelings in the game is letting your opponent resolve it and winning anyway. I was doing my dailies on Runick Fur Hire and a Lab player resolved Maxx C 3 times and I still won. This one game isn't worth all the times I've been BUGGED while the opponent had a Borreload Savage negate live but you know, it's something.

I have 3 cards, am under Maxx "C" and the opponent has 2 cards in hand. They will open their turn with 3 cards and a kaiju. Chances are I lose to a simple OTK with Bystials unless I have Bystials of my own. Maxx "C made the difference here because Dragon Link is nothing but gas, there are no bricks aside from Psy-Frame Driver, Imperm and anti-Maxx "C" spells.
That said, Dragon Link can dig for Maxx "C" courtesy of Chaos Space and Branded Regained, after they thin their deck their chances of drawing into it are very high
You are right anon, Maxx C, the most played card in the OCG and MD has completely killed the viability of combo decks. No combo deck has been meta or even good since the card released. The game is a slow affair between control decks, and normal summon decks and has been since it's release years ago.

In a perfect world maxx c would never resolve. It already almost never resolves in fact. It's true that the card is poorly designed and you should not be able to use it if you have cards on the field, but that's just collateral damage to let control decks have a chance against combo ones. Don't think about the few times that you got maxx c'ed and didn't have an answer , instead think about all the times a combo opponent bricked because instead of playing a bunch of extenders he drew a bunch of worthless maxx c counters.

Someone already did the math, if they're reprinting the entire archetypal lineup like they did for Infernoid and Ice Barrier the only possible archetypes left to fit the amounts are Genex and Zefra.

Kashtira pre-Theosis, Wraithsoth, and Ariseheart is unplayable on it's own unless you get some super high roll Diablosis setup where your opponent also bricks so you can mill them out. You'd think a win condition like that would play a Runick engine for filtering draws and additional mill power, but no they load up on dogshit like Ascended of Thunder and Psi-Beast and play Rank 7 turbo. Galaxy Tomahawk is alright but dies instantly to imperm, and Shangri+Diablosis does literally nothing unless you're a pendulum player and they lock a pend zone.
Shangri+diablosis uses preparations and the shangri ss for interaction. You can pretty easily get a full monster zone lock out with this set up. But yes it's high roll as frick and not good.
Any 3 card combination of Oohime, Hidden Armory, and another Mikanko/Mayowashidori. Oohime search ceremony (Discard Mayo if you have it), ceremony special Oohime, hidden armory search DES, ceremony grave effect send a Mikanko/Mayo, Mayo resummon a Mikanko in grave, equip Mikanko with DES. Attack with Mikanko, activate Mayo return Mikanko to hand, activate Oohime attaching DES to Oohime, attack with Oohime. Exactly 8000 points of damage on an open field.
Because Hidden Armory mills a card you can theoretically get lucky and mill a Mayo/Mikanko, but that's pretty unlikely.

I'll miss Tri-Spright when Beaver gets hit later this month but Runick Fur Hire is still going strong so I'm good. I'm sure they'll ban elf eventually but until then it's turn 1 setup is great against this current meta. Kaijus don't really stop it because the board is too wide, and having negates, pops, and the Runick cards means you have a lot of flexibility with how you interact. Only issue is that the deck doesn't have a lot of room for non-engine or board breakers. I've considered going to 41 cards and shaving a Spright Smashers to run 2 TTT, but I dunno.
Too bad this deck dies to Ariseheart so I'll have to switch to something that can run droll, but until then I'm blazing through Platinum.

There's no Chaos Ruler, I see nothing wrong. There was a single Tearlaments deck that made top 8, there was more Floo in Top 8 than Tearlaments. People are going to realize even after Horus that Tearlament isn't that good, and that's fine because we have a lot of other options people would rather play willingly. And if we get the Ishizu cards banned finally which we probably will, Tear will be a tier 2 deck and again, that's also fine. TCG isn't addicted to Tear and gamblebrained shit like OCG is.

Not tier zero, but i remember schizos here were downplaying Swordsoul and Branded(2nd wave support) and legit think marincess were better
Problem is, people use road of the king as their insight to the OCG when they don't realize half the events on there are glorified locals. I can go down to my locals and get a high placing with some playable deck and even outright win the whole night, that doesn't make it a good deck, it means you beat everyone at your locals. And in OCG it's actually even more skewed because they get cards first and have untested environments. What you see with Unchained is a couple people did alright because other people didn't know the matchup and then it swiftly was deemed not good by the players. That's why people say it flopped. Contrast to the TCG where people playtest months before the cards even come out and MD where it's already a half-solved meta from OCG a year ago.
How early do we usually learn about the contents of selection packs before they release? If Unchained and Altergeist are in the same pack will I have time to build up a hoard of gemmies before it arrives?
Usually you get an idea of when a set is going to drop just because it's around 10-12 months after it originally released in the OCG/TCG. Closer to that deadline, we get about 1-4 weeks of advanced notice in the form of leaks dribbled out by the resident homosexual twitch streamer. Yeah he should just drop them all at once and realistically probably finds out after the previous pack releases and work on the next one starts, but he's going to get his money's worth goddammit, you WILL watch streams!
So about 10 months from now start hoarding and you should be able to stock up well over 10k, spending only what you have to not to let them expire. That should be plenty.
Eurogays literally don't know what any of the Rikka Sunavalon cards do for some reason. Rikka can't win shit in NA because even Latin America is capable of reading a Rikka card before just throwing cards on the table.
Dragonmaids is pretty simple, every level 4 or lower dragon has an effect on-summon, and can "swap forms" into a respective level 7 or 8 main deck dragon monster at the start of the battle phase. These higher level dragons each have an effect in hand that's activated by discarding them, and can resummon the lower level dragons at the end of the battle phase. The deck's boss monsters, House and Sheou, are unique in that they don't swap with main deck dragons but with each other. Sheou swaps into House for the negate, and House can swap back with Changeover, their archetypal fusion spell. You generally want to aim to get Changeover in hand and summon Sheou on turn 1. The deck gains additional recursive power because Sheou can also summon dragonmaid monsters during the standby phase of each turn, triggering on-summon effects.
For more general advice on learning decks, it's usually best to watch someone else play them for a while. With some experience you can start to identify strong effects and gameplans, but as a beginner there's no shame in just watching a youtube video guide.
Look up decklists, just make sure it's somewhat recent because meta changes can change the deck a lot. A deck from a year ago might be playing cards to counter whatever was meta back then but is non-existent right now.
Generally just looking at the top decklists on MasterDuelMeta for your archetype is a good start, but unfortunately for Dragonmaids the top level decks tend to mix them with a couple other much stronger but much more expensive archetypes (mainly branded and bystials). So youtube videos targeted at beginners (Dragonmaids are a common starter deck recommendation so I'm sure there's stuff out there) are probably you're best shot
As for learning to play a deck, you just need to know 1) what the win condition is and 2) how to get to it. Again guides and videos of people playing the deck are fine, just to see which cards they prioritize getting on the field/searching for/etc
The lack of a mana system is what makes Yugioh so much faster paced than other card games, and it means you can't really get by just playing random cards in your hand as you draw them. You need to know how your cards interact with each other since you're basically playing through your whole deck turn 1.
watch a guide and get a good grasp on fundamentals aka reading the cards and understanding what they do.
copy a decent list off a guide or youtube, and practice your combo in solo modes until you get comfortable, then hop on ranked and try it, you'll fail, alot, eventually you'll get it. don't get discouraged at first
People don't want to hear this but Endymion is legit the Dark Magician retrain. Endymion can even search a normal spell like Dark Sage, just on battle destruction. But it's the same general idea of using spell cards and magic abilities to run a spellcaster beatdown strategy. Keep away from the extra deck slot and it's also entirely a main deck strategy.

Not really. This deck in particular seems like it's a few ritual engines held together with Herald, so at that point just replace Eldlich, Nexus, and Ashyan with 3x Diviner. Oohime is also excellent as an engine so finding the space for 3x by removing Cartesia seems obvious since Granguignol doesn't do much without a larger branded package. Yeah you can summon Ecclesia add Fleur on your opponent's turn but Diviner can start your entire play and round out whatever half of this deck you don't have, and Oohime is a quick effect snatch steal with Reflection Rondo.

Historic formats would be nice in MD, the issue is that would functionally end up with players having to start rationing out their gems/dust between the formats they wanna play.

If I had to pitch a pipe dream scenario it would be a rotating historic format that serves as a secondary ladder to regular ranked. It would change monthly from era to era.
In order to get around the unwillingness to spend resources on temporary formats, Konami would have to provide actually GOOD loaners that aren't just random piles of cards put together by the infant son of an intern. Like several loaners copied from real tournament winning decklists from that era would be solid.
That way anyone who wants to play some janky old shit will be able to play it if they want at their own expense, but everyone has access to good loaner decks if they just want to experience what the old formats were like.

DL is notorious for being one of the greediest p2w games around. You could grind 24/7 nonstop each month and still not have enough currency to get everything you need from the newest box. Certain cards are hard locked behind a paywall and you have no option to get them with normal gems. Want a playset of a structure deck? need to spend money. Want a playset of Ice Dragons Prison the best trap in the game? You will need to spend 300$

I don't know what Plat you're talking about. I got bumped down to Plat after failing to give a shit about MD for basically the entire month last month and it's all shitdecks or actual shit tier players.
I still haven't figured out what I'm supposed to play in le kaiju/golem format. Anything that relies on a small number of boss monsters instantly loses if they topdeck one of these moronic cards, and even le 5 omninegate boards are basically gutted if they can out 2 of your interruptions with one golem (which I learned the hard way can be used multiple times to go 2 for 4 on you which is GG)

Endymion is one of scariest deck to face thanks to whole toolbox from mystical beasts and spellcaster. It also have excellent pend effects and unlike other decks that need summon a lot for anything, pend 5 is legit.

I play lots of decks including some heavy combo decks and board breakers aside from Kaijus are so much more preferable to Maxx C. That stupid roach creates so many non-games, none of them are fricking fun. And everyone having to run Called for roach also creates so many non-games where you get to play for fricking free. You have like a 50% chance for any given game to just be one-sided. It's not just the coinflip, it's because of these 5 cards in every single format.

Maxx C is a shitty card that should 100% be banned but one of the best feelings in the game is letting your opponent resolve it and winning anyway. I was doing my dailies on Runick Fur Hire and a Lab player resolved Maxx C 3 times and I still won. This one game isn't worth all the times I've been BUGGED while the opponent had a Borreload Savage negate live but you know, it's something.

I have 3 cards, am under Maxx "C" and the opponent has 2 cards in hand. They will open their turn with 3 cards and a kaiju. Chances are I lose to a simple OTK with Bystials unless I have Bystials of my own. Maxx "C made the difference here because Dragon Link is nothing but gas, there are no bricks aside from Psy-Frame Driver, Imperm and anti-Maxx "C" spells.
That said, Dragon Link can dig for Maxx "C" courtesy of Chaos Space and Branded Regained, after they thin their deck their chances of drawing into it are very high

As far as I can tell every toon that appeared on the show is already a real card. Just give more classic monsters toon variants. Actually scratch that I said this in a previous thread but what they need to make is a new Toon World but make it busted. Make Shine Palace a real Toon card but have “its name is always treated as Toon World” on it and make it busted.

I've said this countless times already but Toons need consistency and a real gameplan. Searchers aren't enough, they need a real engine that can get a desirable game state set up with multiple hands, and the engine needs to work without Toon World being up to begin with.

In a perfect world maxx c would never resolve. It already almost never resolves in fact. It's true that the card is poorly designed and you should not be able to use it if you have cards on the field, but that's just collateral damage to let control decks have a chance against combo ones. Don't think about the few times that you got maxx c'ed and didn't have an answer , instead think about all the times a combo opponent bricked because instead of playing a bunch of extenders he drew a bunch of worthless maxx c counters.
This is why maxx C is important.

Kashtira pre-Theosis, Wraithsoth, and Ariseheart is unplayable on it's own unless you get some super high roll Diablosis setup where your opponent also bricks so you can mill them out. You'd think a win condition like that would play a Runick engine for filtering draws and additional mill power, but no they load up on dogshit like Ascended of Thunder and Psi-Beast and play Rank 7 turbo. Galaxy Tomahawk is alright but dies instantly to imperm, and Shangri+Diablosis does literally nothing unless you're a pendulum player and they lock a pend zone.
Shangri+diablosis uses preparations and the shangri ss for interaction. You can pretty easily get a full monster zone lock out with this set up. But yes it's high roll as frick and not good.

Oohime search ceremony (Discard Mayo if you have it), ceremony special Oohime, hidden armory search DES, ceremony grave effect send a Mikanko/Mayo, Mayo resummon a Mikanko in grave, equip Mikanko with DES. Attack with Mikanko, activate Mayo return Mikanko to hand, activate Oohime attaching DES to Oohime, attack with Oohime. Exactly 8000 points of damage on an open field.
Because Hidden Armory mills a card you can theoretically get lucky and mill a Mayo/Mikanko, but that's pretty unlikely.

Fenrir is a hard counter to any continuous spell/trap deck since there's absolutely no targeting protection for backrow, my boss monster is literally just kaiju food and the entire deck is about to become completely unplayable thanks to arise
I'll miss Tri-Spright when Beaver gets hit later this month but Runick Fur Hire is still going strong so I'm good. I'm sure they'll ban elf eventually but until then it's turn 1 setup is great against this current meta. Kaijus don't really stop it because the board is too wide, and having negates, pops, and the Runick cards means you have a lot of flexibility with how you interact. Only issue is that the deck doesn't have a lot of room for non-engine or board breakers. I've considered going to 41 cards and shaving a Spright Smashers to run 2 TTT, but I dunno.
Too bad this deck dies to Ariseheart so I'll have to switch to something that can run droll, but until then I'm blazing through Platinum.

Problem is, people use road of the king as their insight to the OCG when they don't realize half the events on there are glorified locals. I can go down to my locals and get a high placing with some playable deck and even outright win the whole night, that doesn't make it a good deck, it means you beat everyone at your locals. And in OCG it's actually even more skewed because they get cards first and have untested environments. What you see with Unchained is a couple people did alright because other people didn't know the matchup and then it swiftly was deemed not good by the players. That's why people say it flopped. Contrast to the TCG where people playtest months before the cards even come out and MD where it's already a half-solved meta from OCG a year ago.

How early do we usually learn about the contents of selection packs before they release? If Unchained and Altergeist are in the same pack will I have time to build up a hoard of gemmies before it arrives?
Usually you get an idea of when a set is going to drop just because it's around 10-12 months after it originally released in the OCG/TCG. Closer to that deadline, we get about 1-4 weeks of advanced notice in the form of leaks dribbled out by the resident homosexual twitch streamer. Yeah he should just drop them all at once and realistically probably finds out after the previous pack releases and work on the next one starts, but he's going to get his money's worth goddammit, you WILL watch streams!
So about 10 months from now start hoarding and you should be able to stock up well over 10k, spending only what you have to not to let them expire. That should be plenty.

how do i figure out what cards a deck needs/how to play a specific deck
i'm new and just got Dragonmaids, and i have no idea what i'm doing
Watch someone else play it. Or read a deck piloting guide.
Dragonmaids is pretty simple, every level 4 or lower dragon has an effect on-summon, and can "swap forms" into a respective level 7 or 8 main deck dragon monster at the start of the battle phase. These higher level dragons each have an effect in hand that's activated by discarding them, and can resummon the lower level dragons at the end of the battle phase. The deck's boss monsters, House and Sheou, are unique in that they don't swap with main deck dragons but with each other. Sheou swaps into House for the negate, and House can swap back with Changeover, their archetypal fusion spell. You generally want to aim to get Changeover in hand and summon Sheou on turn 1. The deck gains additional recursive power because Sheou can also summon dragonmaid monsters during the standby phase of each turn, triggering on-summon effects.
For more general advice on learning decks, it's usually best to watch someone else play them for a while. With some experience you can start to identify strong effects and gameplans, but as a beginner there's no shame in just watching a youtube video guide.
Look up decklists, just make sure it's somewhat recent because meta changes can change the deck a lot. A deck from a year ago might be playing cards to counter whatever was meta back then but is non-existent right now.
Generally just looking at the top decklists on MasterDuelMeta for your archetype is a good start, but unfortunately for Dragonmaids the top level decks tend to mix them with a couple other much stronger but much more expensive archetypes (mainly branded and bystials). So youtube videos targeted at beginners (Dragonmaids are a common starter deck recommendation so I'm sure there's stuff out there) are probably you're best shot
As for learning to play a deck, you just need to know 1) what the win condition is and 2) how to get to it. Again guides and videos of people playing the deck are fine, just to see which cards they prioritize getting on the field/searching for/etc
The lack of a mana system is what makes Yugioh so much faster paced than other card games, and it means you can't really get by just playing random cards in your hand as you draw them. You need to know how your cards interact with each other since you're basically playing through your whole deck turn 1.
watch a guide and get a good grasp on fundamentals aka reading the cards and understanding what they do.
copy a decent list off a guide or youtube, and practice your combo in solo modes until you get comfortable, then hop on ranked and try it, you'll fail, alot, eventually you'll get it. don't get discouraged at first

People don't want to hear this but Endymion is legit the Dark Magician retrain. Endymion can even search a normal spell like Dark Sage, just on battle destruction. But it's the same general idea of using spell cards and magic abilities to run a spellcaster beatdown strategy. Keep away from the extra deck slot and it's also entirely a main deck strategy.

Not really. This deck in particular seems like it's a few ritual engines held together with Herald, so at that point just replace Eldlich, Nexus, and Ashyan with 3x Diviner. Oohime is also excellent as an engine so finding the space for 3x by removing Cartesia seems obvious since Granguignol doesn't do much without a larger branded package. Yeah you can summon Ecclesia add Fleur on your opponent's turn but Diviner can start your entire play and round out whatever half of this deck you don't have, and Oohime is a quick effect snatch steal with Reflection Rondo.

In order to get around the unwillingness to spend resources on temporary formats, Konami would have to provide actually GOOD loaners that aren't just random piles of cards put together by the infant son of an intern. Like several loaners copied from real tournament winning decklists from that era would be solid.
That way anyone who wants to play some janky old shit will be able to play it if they want at their own expense, but everyone has access to good loaner decks if they just want to experience what the old formats were like.

I still haven't figured out what I'm supposed to play in le kaiju/golem format. Anything that relies on a small number of boss monsters instantly loses if they topdeck one of these moronic cards, and even le 5 omninegate boards are basically gutted if they can out 2 of your interruptions with one golem (which I learned the hard way can be used multiple times to go 2 for 4 on you which is GG)
It's like Konami is fricking begging me to play Lab or Mikanko, but I find them both incredibly dull and their cards are the blandest waifu trash imaginable
Kaiju format just encourages Draw Phase Maxx "C" even more, which you should already be doing anyway.

i've been playing blind going second since tear came out and have been happy. i think it really showed during the last tryout duel with everyone building insane going second decks
I've converted my Endy deck to pure going second and having reasonable success. Book of Eclipse is a little bricky though, even with all the draw power.
