Very good game, but I actually preferred 1 and CD on the 16bit era SF. SF3 trilogy is one of my so time favorites and I love it the most though.
Why do you like 2 in particular?
the music is a tiny bit more memorable and uses a different set of sounds that are amazing for genesis. i love the first one as well but the story i find more cliche light vs darkness and 2 is full of original things, it’s longer and has exciting things like Odd Eye and the Krakhen and the chess board battle that keep it changing throughout. I like the supportinh characters a bit more because they get more development. Brighter and better animations, plus unlike the first game every king in a new town has unique animation. I like the story more, I like the more expansive towns and secrets that allows you to use an item and promote a character for a new type, make Sarah a monk and she is the strongest character in the game because you can cast heal and level her up to 99 before the game is over easily. that would take such an absurd amount of grinding and autism. literally every other healer can outpace her experience rate, on top of providing more utility to the team. you have to deliberately feed her in the early game for her to keep up with regular fighters, and why are you bothering to take experience away from regular fighters? her stats dont even reach "strong" levels until late game anyway, which, as i said, every other healer in the game will have long since outpaced her anyway.

if you make her a monk she is the strongest. monks have high attack and are fighters with magic. and it’s easy to heal and let others gain exp from fighting. it’s not hard at all. her turn, heal. you kinda not hearin me, homie. i’mma tune you out, you kinda dumb
theres more to a good unit than high attack. she has shit for movement. shit for hp and defense, and shit for agi, and those dont catch up until a LOT of farming. again, if you are only using heal, she WILL fall behind. if you are feeding her kills, you are robbing your fighters for the terribly inefficient trade of "but its sarah!". she takes so much work to GET to that spot. i understand that you're an autist and have shit taste in waifus or whatever, but the FACTS are that she takes a lot of work, it doesnt even really pay out well, and that every single other healer in the game absolutely MOGS her in every regard.
when she is promoted to master monk, she is fast and powerful with higher defense and health. i’m thinking you never found the secret item to promote her and see for yourself. she can also wield the force sword. she had healing and attack magic. and it’s effortless to level her up.

which by the time you even learn heal 3, you'll be wanting aura anyway. and if you're boasting about attack, then healing isnt very relevant.

blast is pretty shitty and the numbers are pretty low. it can be a nice tool if you're trying to feed her kills, but again, taking from fighters who literally do the job better, and if you'r spending mana on that, you arent spending mana on healing.
there is no point to feed sarah, especially when you could feed any other healer to get better results faster.

no, when you promote to master monk you get completely new stats. it’s very obvious from reading this that you’ve never seen the master monk in the game and are getting your panties in a twist attacking every single positive aspect i’ve pointed out to the point where i don’t see how you can enjoy life, let alone this game. you never found the secret item to promote sarah to master monk, and for some reason you’re butthurt in an extreme way when someone points out you can effortlessly level her up to 99. so you keep distorting everything i say to take away that simple point: it’s easy. you’re all like why why why. because it’s a neat thing in the game that makes her the most powerful character. that’s it. you play however you want. chill
Nice stuff, and I agree that the story of SF1 is pretty cliched. I think you'd really like the story of CD and III though, they're more original and nuanced.
I really should play 2 again, it did have a lot of good points. I played it many years ago but never finished it. Did it have random battles? I think that really turned me off it.
it does not have random battles. there are a few map locations where a battle will trigger when you step on a specific few tiles, so it might "seem" like a random battle to the moronic. after you beat those battles the first time, you CAN trigger them again, sometimes on accident, but you can just egress and try not to step on the activation spot again.

Probably poor wording on my part. You're right, 'nuanced' isn't the right word, but I enjoyed the story with the two kingdoms and the two heroes playing out on opposite sides more.
And yeah, the exploration missing was shame, but I didn't miss it that much because I really enjoyed the battles and characters.
shining force ii, landstalker, crusader of centy, wonder boy in monster world, and phantasy star iv were my childhood. peak kino. the genesis really put out some bangers. i really need to replay shining force ii, now that i think about it. its been a while..
