Masterpiece or dogshit?

Masterpiece or dogshit? One of the most divisive games ever created, people either think it's a terrible game flawed in every way propped up by hipsters or a subversive classic that defines Star Wars mythology.

Masterpiece with dogshit parts wouldn't be too inaccurate? And with parts here I mean everything related to gameplay, story, visuals, audio, etc where Obsidian clearly ran out of money/time/interest.

It's a terrible flawed subversive classic. Hearing someones opinion on the game tells you more about them than it does about the game.

would be a masterpiece if it wasn't for it getting obsidian'd and released with most of it cut

The story and idea are great except for the fact nihilus doesnt do shit in the game and you randomly kill it in one mission. Aside from that the game itself is bad the best part are the tutorial and the beginning everything else is super incomplete like main quests in each planet except the one where kreia says apathy is death (theres no quests there) are 3 quests long and most of it is go to x talk/kill y theres no further developments so it sucks. Since the game is super incomplete it suffers from the same problem vampire the masquerade where most of the mid end to end of the game is combat like jedi temple has 1 gazilllion enemies on the way

dog shit. i really tried to like it but i always get to the part where you get the ebon hawk back and quit because i cant take anymore shitty writing by that point. and its also one of the old games that fall into the trope of "oh you want to be a magic only character? well get fricked youre out of mana after 3 spells".

Sounds like a major case of not getting gud, homosexual.

        no

        >He didn't invest in Force Drain

weird how no other games have force drain both in and out of the star wars franchise. and kotor 1 has the same issue. force combat just blows in those games.

I've played through the game many times as a force only character. It's not hard

isnt there a force regen ability at like level 2 or 4?
and did you spend your points properly?

        Anonymous

Early game is pretty bad for a mage, even with the spell that makes spells cost health you just don't have enough points and there's so many targets. Pretty sure you don't get the quicker force regen feat until level 4 which is usually when you get on the Harbinger and it's still pretty slow but I think it should be this way, mages weak early but demolish everything later on

        Anonymous

you get a saber form (forece channel) that like quadruples regen at level 12 and a feat that increases regen as well. for a deep force pool you just roll a consular. that guy is a moron.

I legitimately hated every section of this game where you do not play as the exile. Why does the game insist on splitting the party so much? I especially hate the end of Nar Shaddaa, from when octopus face calls you for a meeting onward.

It's too empty to be actually enjoyable, even with the restored content mod.

The game is OK, but the morality and philosophy it tries to hamfist down your throat fails to be anywhere near as deep as it tries to be, and in gameplay it boils down to moronicly childish goody two shoes or cartoon villain choices that actively punish you for trying to be pragmatic or just not take one side to the absurd extreme.

Worse than the first in basically every way possible. Decent 6 out of 10 though. Frick literally every character in the game though seriously. Especially dumb old you are wrong no matter what c**t.

I played with the RSM a few years ago, but I think it glitched because it locked me into the endgame sequence after Korriban, and I don't remember that being the way it's supposed to happen. I didn't get to train any of my companions to be Jedi either, that just got skipped and the conversation options never came up.
It was fun though, I tried out a Blaster Jedi playthrough and it's legitimately fricking broken how fast you can just melt people

Its approach to the Sith/Jedi dynamic is far more interesting than the "jedi good, sith bad" you get from KotOR1, not to mention the first game tries to strongarm you into going Light Side by giving you a Jedi companion right off the bat.
That said, KotOR2's pretension to nuanced moral choices falls pretty flat outside of the hamfisted "giving this refugee a handout was actually bad because you made him a target," because none of the choices you make actually forces you to think about consequences aside from that one contrived instance.

      >guy with the beard is like "we shouldn't have cast you out when you returned, we should have learnt from you" when you meet him on nar shaada
      >doesn't even try to convince the others not to shut you off from the force
I wonder how differently the conversation goes depending on how many are still alive, I always save them all

        Anonymous

If you leave some alive, they default to assuming your bad because you killed one.

Which is bullshit, cause I think there's one outcome where Vrook just fricking attacks you.

The restored content mod is shit, everything that go cut got cut for a reason. The HK factory is a fricking slog that halts the game entirely, and the only quest I even remember being put back is the one about the padawan hiding in the ruins of the temple, a storyline that goes absolutely nowhere.

It's a pitfall that I'm surprised has lasted this long. Don't know why that kind of thinking is so prevalent.

I bought it last year to see what the fuss was and here are my thoughts: I immediately wanted to murder Atton Rand and eject him from my party and the game prevented me, I saw Kreia's heel turn coming from the second she wakes up in the med bay. I fricking hated all the wrought overwritten dialogue with clunky space references WE'LL BE DEADER THAN A WOMP RAT AT JABBA THE HUTT'S BUFFET! etc. I loved Nar Shadda, thought it was the best part of the game, actually just wanted the entire game to be set on Nar Shadda. It was the only part that gave you some real independence and was kinda disconnected to the main story. I disliked how the rest of the game puts you on rails and limits your choices to two glaringly obvious and stupid binary opposites, you either roleplay as a total cuck who pays off everyone's debts and gets walked all over, or an utterly dysfunctional psycho. I tried a second play through as a Sith woman, and dropped it when I couldn't get past the bald guy Jedi fight on Dantooine who kicked my ass even when I tried to cheese him.

For all of Chris Avellone's sucking himself off over "muh shades of gray," the game has the same problem every single other game with a moral choice system has in that there's no reason to choose the "evil" options aside from edginess. There's no reason to side against the queen on Onderon, no real reason to kill the Jedi Council, and literally no reason to side against the settlers on Dantooine.

        Anonymous

Revenge on the jedi masters who cast you from the order and refused to help you in the war? You even get some dialogue with Kreia and Force Points (not like they matter) after each one even when she doesn't want them killed. There are edgy evil choices but I'd say they generally give you more nuanced options than the first one where it was almost always being dark side for the sake of it

          Anonymous

Kreia is a b***h and even ends up disliking you if you choose a lot of the dark side insult dialogue options

            Anonymous

Well that's kind of the point, she doesn't like you being a dick for no reason, better to put it towards a purpose

            Anonymous

Kreia is just a contrarian homosexual. Which probably explains why KOTOR2 is the preferred game of contrarian homosexuals.

Except you willingly returned to the Jedi Council after the war to face punishment. And they weren't the ones who severed you from the Force the first time, you did that yourself. So you'd be getting "revenge" on them for shit that you did to yourself.

            Anonymous

You came back to face their judgement not necessarily get thrown out, I mean yeah they probably weren't going to be happy but you'd stopped the mandalorians at that point so maybe you could show them it was necessary but they don't want to hear it, you could still be pissed about it and pretty sure there's dialogue options that say as such. Also I'm pretty sure you don't find out they didn't sever you until the last cutscene with them and everyone implies that it could only have been them? Been awhile so I can't remember exactly

              Anonymous

All jedi have fairly similar dialog, given that you could do the planets in any order, and before you either kill or let them go, you can question them, and every one of them tells you that they weren't the ones who cut you off. That "something must have happened" that caused you to sever yourself.

They're shifty enough that you could get away with not believing them, I mean they do think you're a big enough threat that they try to actually do it later

masterpiece because its short sweet and has replayability.
replayability is huge for any game to last the test of time
    >all blasters jedi
from taking my 16 int sentinel/watchman to new heights by crafting my own shit and turning mira and atton into jedi
    >force speed
    >flurry
    >two pistols augmented to high frick
    >CC abilities shut off defenses but against high DEX no ones ganna give a frick
    also
    >fists only
    >re-living out my SWG teras kasi days
and all the other shit like spamming lightning storm all the fricking time endlessly
    and so on

My absolute favorite part is opening up one of the cannisters in Nar Shadda docks and finding some conspiracist alien guy there who thinks he's got a radio signal to some fricked up droid shit and asks you to do a quest and then when you go back he's dead and his electrical terminal is sparking out, it's like you stumbled across something you shouldn't have

Yes but I played it as a kid so that probably factors into it, thankfully it's not clunky or too difficult for a playthrough but the gameplay and story aren't anything impressive at this point and chances are you've already been spoiled
