>Max level fighters should be Heracles
>Max level wizards should be warping reality
>Max level rogues should be stealing concepts
Soooo... what should a max level ranger be capable of?
>Max level fighters should be Heracles
>Max level wizards should be warping reality
>Max level rogues should be stealing concepts
Soooo... what should a max level ranger be capable of?
Those are all just warping reality in different ways. Same for a ranger, who is uncovering new and unknown planes of existence to chart and adapt to
Removing all goblinoids from all forest at once.
Be Aragorn II Elessar
>Max level fighters should be Heracles
>Max level wizards should be warping reality
Yes.
>Max level rogues should be stealing concepts
No.
>No
This. Best I can do is literally stealing a lady's heart and leaving her an emotionless automaton.
Yes.
Carmen Sandiego is a very high level rogue. She once stole, among a great many other things, the language of Portuguese.
Max level rogues should be stealing fire from the gods.
>Max level rogues should be stealing fire from the gods.
>Implying this is harder than stealing Portuguese
She stole Waldo's heart.
God fricking hell I love Carmem Sandiego.
Follow the tracks in between the folds of reality and find an impossible way to reach a god?
Nice.
Also, supernatural ability to deal with fauna and flora, no matter where, not quite the same way a Druid would.
>Follow the tracks in between the folds of reality and find an impossible way to reach a god?
Like this?
That's badass.
Is that 4e DnD?
>Long Walk Back
God damn, that's cool.
Yes, 4Epic Destiny.
Stealing fire from the gods makes sense for a skilled theif, stealing the concept of the Portuguese language doesn’t.
A high level rogue should be able to sneak past gods and hide from mortals in plain sight. A level 20 rogue walks up to the Pope stabs him 60 times and walks away with nobody realizing what happened.
It actually implies a level of intelligence/connections with the divine/guile far above the pale to be able to convince the powers that be to even allow it for the rogue to be possible for such a thing
Besides, thieves otherwise get nothing, so to be able to steal the concept of magic itself is the ultimate chad move
>Shoot an arrow into the slit of a helmet with a basic bow
>Navigating the outer planes and portals
>Making goblins extinct
How are they supposed to do that when they can't fly, teleport, or protect themselves from extraplanar envirorments?
They just keep walking through the wilds, man
>Max level rogues should be stealing concepts
Okay, how do you gamify that? What, in terms of dice, distances, damage, or some other game system metric, what does that actually mean?
Casually performing impossible feats of archery.
- Flawless tracking.
- Flawless finding food and water in natural environment.
- Heightened senses in natural environment.
- Possibly massive benefits to archery, animal care, herbalism, manufacturing bows and fletching.
- High ability to predict all animal and some monster behaviour in natural environment.
- The ability to communicate with natural animals.
- When inside always finding the shortest route to the outside.
>- When inside always finding the shortest route to the outside
Thanks, this is a great idea
>Soooo... what should a max level ranger be capable of?
Track down The Hidden God?
teleporting between planes at will because that's the ultimate exploration
Sniping heads from halfway across the world.
Enkidu
>what should a max level ranger be capable of?
Ideally having a unique class identity
Hunting Gods
Tracking a soul into hell.
>>Max level fighters should be Heracles
>>Max level wizards should be warping reality
>>Max level rogues should be stealing concepts
>what should a max level ranger be capable of?
all of the above
Read Mahābhārata and you will know
>Max level fighters should be Heracles
Max level ranger should be Artemis/Diana then
Orion then
>what should a max level ranger be capable of?
total global conspiracy, controlling everything secretly behind the scenes, living embodiment of bilderberg
If rogues are that powerful your archer would be Hou Yi.
Another aspect you should underline is the tracking and survival aspect. He can live of anything, he can find a certain person in a city in no time just by following tracks
Kill a dragon with a single arrow.
>Max level fighters should be Heracles
>Max level wizards should be warping reality
>Max level rogues should be stealing concepts
No
Taking knot like an absolute champion.
>Max level fighters should be Heracles
Hercules was the son of a god. He's a bit of an exceptional case. You are not.
>Max level wizards should be warping reality
What does this even mean? How is working nature and petitioning outside forces warping reality?
>Max level rogues should be stealing concepts
That sounds extremely dumb.
>Hercules was the son of a god. He's a bit of an exceptional case. You are not.
Also an OG inspiration for the Fighting Man.
>What does this even mean? How is working nature and petitioning outside forces warping reality?
You are playing what game?
>That sounds extremely dumb.
You have no imagination.
>20th level fighters, characters that fight fight entire armies single handedly and who can slay giants and dragons in a single round of combat
>not exceptional beings
If anything it's more impressive since an average player character /isn't/ the son of a god
shooting very far away very accurately. setting up a shot like a navy seal sniper, unpacking all the shit they gonna use, then shooting the commander of an army sitting in his tent 3 miles away.
Team Fortress 2 Sniper Bots
So constantly spinning?
>Soooo... what should a max level ranger be capable of?
Genocide of favored enemies
I've always figured a mixture of Planeswalkers and Roland from the Dark Tower series would be a good approximation of epic level Rangers
Max level rangers should be able to tame and lead armies of animals.
Living happily ever after.
God damn it baldurs gate.
Very nice.
I need to play SoD one day. Despite all the howling I've heard about it it seems good.
Max level rangers would find themselves able to survive and thrive in places that most creatures would die after a day. You become an apex predator of your environment. More or less.
High level rangers should be traveling where angels fear to tread. Make them Ging from HxH
Remember that scene in Princess Pride where the prince reads the footprints and recreates the duel between Wesley and Inigo, blow for blow, able to evaluate everything they did just from footwork? Rangers should be able to do that. Plus Legolas/Wanted-level ranged combat, middling nature magic, training and commanding a pack of predatory animals to abuse action economy, able to find and exploit the weaknesses of anything they fight and/or learn about, you get the idea.
A ranger should ideally just be a fighter subclass so you have answered your own question. Substitute Odysseus for Heracles.
Tracking and slaying the people you mentioned
A high level ranger is batman. They know everyone and everything's weakness, and if they don't, they will quickly find out.
I was going to say this. I've always thought of Geralt as the stereotypical high level ranger, someone with immaculate encyclopedic knowledge of how to track and kill literally every monster in the realm.
