Max Payne 3 is fricking awesome and I will die on the hill defending that. The unskippable cutscenes are very annoying but everything else is pure kino and it has the most fun third person shooting action in history. And the setting of Sao Paolo is really cool, unique and fun. Also has the greatest video game soundtrack of all time.
I still don't remember what the plot was about, not to mention how little Max Payne there is in MP3. Some higher up at Rockstar watched Man on Fire, realized they have the rights to the IP and voila.

I never played the games and decided to marathon them. Max Payne 3 I had to stop from the fricking editing and crazy lights and shit. It's so removed in tone from the first games. I tried a mod to remove all the Kane & Lynch bullshit and the game becomes flat and soulless instead.
I can see why the fans are upset. I'm sure it's still a fine TPS but man, what a downgrade in style.

I know but I don't think that's a bad thing. MP2 already did the exact same thing as MP1, so if you just want more of hte same but slightly newer, just play MP2. MP3 wanted to do something new and unexpected and they pulled it off. It kept the same character but put him in strange and new scenarios which I like. I've never been the type of person to enjoy seeing the exact same situation over and over again, like a fighting game or some shit.
Basically it's about a rich corrupt Brazilian family getting involved with organised crime to further their business and political ambitions, and it involves selling people to organ harvesters, and they bring in Max to frame him for it or some shit. The macro story is kinda weird but the scene-to-scene writing is really good. It captures the vibe of big Brazilian cities really well.
The tone sucked though and I dunno if you're forgetting all the post-processing and shit that makes the game nearly unplayable.

Eh not really, aside from a few comments here and there of "these people are just dumb kids joining gangs because they think they have to", but it still portrays Max as being the good guy the whole time.

The NPC variation especially for the favela inhabitants was fricking insane. The ragdoll physics were pretty cool. That's about all I can say in praise
weakest entry in the franchise, created by rockstar to make easy money without any risks because it was already a established IP.
at least they nailed the gameplay but it´s nothing new, nothing memorable, just a mediocre shooter for the brainrotten.

It is great but the hot brazil atmosphere doesnt feel very max payney.

But what else could they have done in New York? They had a few levels set there to wrap up that storyline but they pretty much did everything they could in that setting with the first two games. A third game in the same setting would be boring and predictable.
