you can play everything for free but youll be severely handicapped by things you can only with irl money. it's nothing that will prevent you from completing anything, but things that just make your time frustrating to play without, like inventory space

Very empty game, some old school design decisions that are huge wasted of time specifically with quest turn-ins. Fast travel isn't that fast. Voice acting surprisingly good in parts, Inquistor wasn't too badly written. The Sith at this point are bickering decadent morons. I don't care about Darth Donut Steel and his infinite resurrections.

I rejoin the game and played it a bit so I could finish most of the story quests. I did all of them but 2 of the light side ones.
Then I realized I couldnt even play anymore. Even though my character was in Nightmare Blackhole gear, I was now basically under leveled from even fresh white level gear.
If I wanted to even play and raids or normal dungeons, Id have to then rerun the entire game over again for another like 30 lvls and then regear up every single gear set again which is like 5 gear sets or some nonsense with tokens now.
So I uninstalled at that point.
It wouldnt be as bad for a new player since it was their first experience, but Im not looking into running the same 10 missions 75 times to just play a new dungeon.

Then you ahve to slot all your gear up too with the fricking +1 dicks and now its lvl 1-10 dicks.

Then you go to the Rodians called Hyde and Zeek and then they tell you to disintegrate that gear piece and after that they will sell you mods of the same level and you can put them in moddable gear and instantly have full gear in every slot

Game's actually dead and the story beyond the class stories is garbage and not what was originally intended (Class stories continuing apart from one another) and it all ends up as one illogical soup where all but 1 or 2 classes feel out of place and it only gets worse with each story update of which there are 2 (two) a year, if that. All you will get otherwise is season pass filler conversations without voice acting. I'm not aware of a singular person that cares about any of the new characters in the story or the story at this point at all anyway. Just let it rot. Hopefully class stories can be played through private servers one day

I disagree with you about the companions being annoying, Mako is the only annoying one if you let her romanticism of Bounty Hunting get to you early on. Gault is great, probably the best-written BH comp, Blizz is cute and Torian is your protoge bro. Skadge can frick right off though, he exists purely to remind you that Warriortards ruined compkilling for everyone.
The companion group for Hunter feels like they're all actually friends and like a tight-knit crew. A lot of the Republic ships feel pretty cold towards each other, which is funny.
Plus, it's satisfying to beat the shit out of Jedi and Sith with superior firepower and skill. Same feeling with Trooper.

story going to shit, next expac after RotHC is focusing on Revan getting turned into mentally unstable moron even more than he was in the OG game @ Foundry coz of sith emperor. It later turns out emperor had a spare body and he built super dooper secret empire at the far edge of the galaxy only to invade both Republic and the Empire (I still wonder why to this day). You kill the guy and take his throne (or not). It later goes on how you can ally with R/E depending where you started core game, also I think it is possible to switch sides (?)
Plus you can get companions that were previously locked for given class (so smuggler can get Vette for instance)
Later in the game after the old/new emperor shitshow Mandalorians appear.
They even brought back Malgus coz I think they legit ran out of ideas how to push story forward.
There is also a seasonal "battle pass" where you grind points for mostly cosmetic rewards, some of them are aight, at higher tier you get Cartel Coins & Packs too.
Gameplay wise? Not much has changed, but you can now go any class combo if they are within force/non force boundaries - so trooper can be a sniper or bounty hunter and knight can become inquisitor/assassin/juggernaut . It works both ways. iirc, to get force classes unlocked for other side you need both Light&Dark V achiev.
Oh and of course game had to incorporate some of the ~~*(modernity*~~) so get ready for """women""" with beards.

Trooper story is fricking based for essentially being a 2nd planetary quest chain. Doing side quest feels natural on Trooper and on Trooper only. Try to find an excuse to do them on other origins with their stories in mind and it turns to bullshit every time.

You can select one alternate spec, it's a mission you get when you have a new character. If you've already done that and chose something else, I don't think you can change it.
You have to be subbed.
Your class is smuggler, your spec is scoundrel. You can choose sniper as a second spec, or any of the other tech specs.
The MMO aspects are severely limited if you're just playing as a F2P (limited raids, pvp, no endgame PVP gear), the lack of referral benefits for F2Ps also fricked over a lot of people. Keep in mind you get the entire campaign of the original game and I also think you get some of the DLC as well now completely free...
My recommendation is to play premium at least once so you get preferred status permanently that restores a lot of the removed benefits of the subscription.
Now is the best time to come back. The game is fricking saved.

Use your sub coins to buy some basic unlocks, like hiding head slot and a few others. After that at preferred, you're not nearly as bad as f2p. The limited money to 1mil is gay as frick though.
You can probably add up all the basics to see how much they are, I can't remember. I've just gradually bought unlocks over the years.

Inquisitor doesn't really have a Vitiate connection, but her power is impressive enough that I think he even compares you to Darth Jadus.
The sage does have a small connection to Vitiate, but I won't spoil it for you. That connection is actually maybe going to become pretty important once the Nul storyline starts to pick up.

That's pretty funny. On a more serious note, I think Akaavi is the choice, especially if you're planning on playing the expansions. Risha suffers from the content void, while mandowank will ensure that Akaavi is somewhat relevant.
