Warner Bros. execs must have seen one joke about superheroes twenty five years ago and assumed everyone would line up for a never-ending pipeline of self-apologetic, ironic slop. They genuinely think that people would never get tired of seeing their childhood heroes constantly mocked and portrayed as useless or graphically killed.
Especially funny since aquaman finally made dimes once they actually treated him half serious when he used to be the big joke hero

It's more like some random Warner executive got a big bonner for the Suicide Squad since 2010, and the box office success of the first movie, allowed him to push his crazy obsession for even longer (rather than, you know, assuming the success was because people thought it'd be relevant to an upcoming Batman movie).

The important thing to remember here in the few weeks before WB closes Rocksteady is that they did give us the Arkham trilogy, so there’s always that. Sad to see them go under, but that’s how it is these days
