me in the early 2000s about to enjoy my $180 dual-system MAS arcade stick that was strictly worse than the official Dreamcast arcade stick I could have bought for half the price wal-mart or the basic PS1 controller I already owned.

I loved the green goblin stick, the stick and the buttons were crap tho.

It was kind of loose but it wasn't crap. It was kind of ironically like a broken-in joystick you'd find on a real arcade machine. Or maybe that was what Agetec was going for.

The stick wasn't the best either. Also vmu slot spaced the buttons too far away from the buttons. I bought 2 sticks because I didn't know about buying replacement buttons back then.

before we knew about superior sanwa controls

I had an inkling in the early 2000s. There were players who talked sometimes about "gum ball" Japanese style joysticks and square gates. There was the knowledge that most console joysticks were based on Japanese arcade parts.
I actually owned a few Japanese style joysticks with real microswitch levers and buttons before I had a MAS stick.
What was different was the attitude surrounding Japanese controls. They were not considered superior yet by most players, or if they were it didn't matter because you wanted the same thing used in western tournaments on arcade machines.

I prefer the Namco PS1 stick over both the Dreamcast stick and the Neo Geo AES stick

Yes, it's a very good stick. I cringe when I see someone mod one with "superior" Sanwa controls. The stock buttons and joystick are great. It uses something like looks like a white HORI hayabusa, but feels much tighter.

It's too short to mod, you can do it but it's an hack job and really tricky. It's the best color combo imo.

          Would an LS-33 fit?

Seen people using that one, you'll need to do some grinding. I was thinking of getting the F300 and do a Namco yellow color, sort of like this but the last buttons would be black.
What I don't like about these is that the R1 and R2 are in the same button array, should be R1 and L1.

Get an F500 instead of an F300.
F500 is a huge upgrade and has a proper universal mounting plate built in.

Nice, didn't know they made a V2, it's black too and has an acrylic panel, in theory you could even print your own art at home with a basic inkjet printer.

Focus attack will print it out for you with the holes already cut out. I think it's about $18 shipped.

              >R1 and R2 are in the same button array, should be R1 and L1.
Also this is trivial to change by just switching the wires around. No soldering necessary.

    >horrid convex buttons
they probably designed this so people wouldn't push them so much

Those are concave buttons on the MAS.
Concave buttons aren't bad and I eventually swapped them into my MAS after initially ordering it with convex buttons.
There are different kinds of concave buttons. You may have used the "ultimate push button" series which are worse than standard push buttons.

Just measured the joystick shaft on my fight stick and realized my LS-32 is mounted 2mm too short. Now I'll never be able to get those 1cc's.

shame the mas creators died in a fire like three years ago
various old evo attendees talked about how brackets could pretty much only progress by borrowing someone's mas stick
or waiting for their stick to be freed from being borrowed

    Cool.

I just got myself a Mayflash F500 Elite + a DYI kit (actuators, springs, gates) for the Sanwa lever inside. I'm more interested in playing shmups etc. with it and this seems like a more versatile solution than getting a Seimitsu lever.
