For example the pistol slide doesn't even more when shooting, feels like using a LEGO gun.

The M4 makes more sense in-universe, the only justification for the MP5 was for it to share rounds with the pistol which wasn't really a necessary thing for gameplay. Of course just swapping the models doesn't make any sense logically.
Can't tell if this is bait or not but yes, people hate the HD models so much so that even Valve decided to make the OG models the default with the latest Half-Life update.
Blue Shift and Opposing Force still default to the HD models tho.
you can replace the HD models with anything you want, in this case the tweaked PS2 models and C.A.G.E.D. mod HD weapons, or have it all replaced by opening addon support
Mitten hands were still a norm down to mid-00s.
Only the PS2 port of HL1 added five-digit hands + animated 3D facial animations. But even HL2 has pseudo-mittens on secondary NPCs, and it was still being taught as an optimization trick way later.
