If you want a more historical, in-depth experience, try the Stainless Steel Historical Improvement Project submod, makes the game a lot more complex and historical
Just coming back to Med2 Is Stainless Steel still the go to mod?
>make a mod as "historically accurate" possilbe. >it feels dogshit because its not THAT historically accurate and is constrained by the outdated but hardcoded game mechanics, AI, and engine. >not to mention the bloated scripts that railroad and slow down the gameplay experience
I mean, cosidering all the effort that went into Divide et Impera or Stainless Steel or Europa Barbarorum or whatever total conversion mods, why don't they just make a new game for themselves?
The Total War engine was designed specifically for those large scale battles, CA would never just give out the source code for their engine, and making a new game engine from scratch is a lot more work than you would think. It's still less effort to just mod the hell out of the game rather than make a completely new one from the ground up. And much of the development of these mods is cumulative: it usually starts off with some minor map changes, then some minor UI changes, and so on until it evolves into what it is now. No one wakes up some day and decides to make a total overhaul mod or modpack, it just kind of happens slowly making changes over time.
>Total War engine was designed specifically for those large scale battles, CA would never just give out the source code for their engine, and making a new game engine from scratch is a lot more work than you would think.
If a indie meme shit game like UEBS can battles 100x bigger than any TW battle, a few dedicated dudes can do a TW clone. This is a shit excuse, the real problem is talent is dead despite more people than ever having access to game development. CA, too, was at one time a nobody studio whose claim to fame were console sports games.
How do you feel about maps (including the vanilla) where Persia is cut-off? It feels wrong not having such a historically important place, but the geography of it is kind of shitty to play.
Depends on the type of game you want. 1448 throws you later game stuff fast and has a good deal of activity with the Ottomans being the primary antagonistic force. But some factions feel neglected or unfinished as well as a number of other issues that probably apply to base Tsardoms as well. Choose based on the time period and type of campaign you'd like more
i believe you mean imperator of the roman empire sir. the pope had the documents to prove he could give the roman empire to anyone. also a vegana was ruling the greek empire so its justified really.
I want to increase the campign agression of factions (against eachother too, not just me) and also the spawn rate of rebels and witches/heretics on VH/VH. How do I go about this? In Vanilla? In mods?
First impressions on tsardoms, basic 1350 start: >odd distribution of rebel settlements: lots in northern italy and anatolia, very few elsewhere >player has the choice to enable a few different scripts, the first two being the garrison script and the "hardcore" script which imposes extra costs on units in enemy territory >many factions are poor, so together these two are a considerable difficulty bump >cavalry tend to have high charge bonus but very low melee attack, so cycle charging is a necessity for all but the most elite >there are a lot of units that are only differentiated by tiny differences in stats and price, a very typical outcome of historical autism meeting multiple very similar factions >good variety of units available from day 1. no need for endless hordes of spearmanii. the italians even have gunpowder artillery available >replenishment rates are decent and there are many troops available to recruit at each settlement, so your only constraint on armies is going to be gold.
Not yet convinced tsardoms is particularly good or bad, but i will keep playing for a bit. i expect stack spam is going to turn everything into a slog by turn 50
yeah, all the factions slots are probably used up in the balkans. That is why i didnt advice on playing any Italian faction other than Venice, who is going to be playing in the balkans anyway.
Artillery in Tsardoms is godlike just due to you being able to besiege a settlement immediately and not risk incurring the added costs. Cannon foundries are practically a must if you want to see serious gains
Just reinstalled M2 after a long time and downloaded this mod.
I have no idea if it's just M2 being outdated as frick, but the battle of Catalaunian Fields is pure pain.
Allied armies take time to arrive while the Huns have their stacks present from the start. They rush me within seconds and I have no idea what to do because the area goes from evening to night, the minimap is dogshit, my units are extremely unresponsive, and there's no way to tell my troops apart from the allies and enemies because it's all just dark blobs smashing into each other.
Also what's up with the arrow key controls, I'm pretty sure M2 modders dropped this shit a decade ago.
I tried a Tsardoms install on my laptop, but the window remains stuck when I try to start a campaign
It's fine loading battles, but it visually stays at the loading screen while making the sounds and hud elements of the campaign when I move my house around. I can press the hotkeys to open up items, but they're all hidden by the loading screen
>SSHIP >get choose heir event >choose my rulers only biological son >adopted son becomes heir anyway >50 turn later >ruier dies, adopted son becomes king >10 turn later get civil war script kicks in >loose half my kingdom to rebellions >couldn't do anything to stop it
why do so many mods start adding useless shitty script that do nothing but disturb the player for no reason
the crown system is also broken garbage
is there a way to turn off shits like your ruler stayed a turn in a town with a tavern, so hes le drunkard now?
Why, those quirks are amusing. It's a after all
no
it is there to remind you SS is a dogshit mod and that those who praise it are shit eaters
The tilde key will allow you to access a panel where you can alter his traits.

>why don't they just make a new game for themselves?
like darthmod did with the Ultimate General and Ultimate Admiral series.
They are doing it now in unreal ungin, its called project Renaissance
I’ve been playing this for over a decade lol one of the best game experiences ever. Dont have to play newgame troonyslops.
Has it become easier to rip CA sourcecode? Or reverse engineer it? I want to frick woth Empire TW’s map already
The go to mod is Planet War
For me, it's Retrofit mod. Surviving the Mongols in vanilla as Russia was such an intense challenge that I hadn't had in a while.
Yes, go for it.
Any factions you'd recommend?
I've heard good things about the Balkans mod. Haven't played it though.
Khwazamerian Empire if you want a challenge. Byzantines if you want to larp as Justinian and conquer the world.
I just played Lithuania way back when.
Try Fall of Costantinople.
All this time and they still use the same ugly faction symbols since 2008
And the borders still look like absolute shite
At least in SSHIP made them somewhat better. But the campaign is a slogfest
What am I in for and what are good factions to learn the mod?
Crusader states are very fun
I like the Kingdoms Grand Campaign Mod and you should download Delphor patch (in same link below) since it fixes problems and restores missing units.
I like this one.
https://www.moddb.com/mods/jlmps-vanilla-kingdoms-2022
Is this based on full SSHIP or just use parts of it?
Whoops I'm a moron. Disregard the question; I read the mod description again.
It's like Vanilla+ with tweaks and bugfixed.
It's very basic but after playing so many "historical accurate" mods, I find it the most fun.
Does it fix two handed weapons and improve the ai somewhat? ?
Sorry if I sound moronic, but what exactly is the difference between these two?
Is the 2023 version better?
Yes.
>Better AI (BAI & CAI)
>rebalanced units, 2h bug, pikes etc. fixed
Trying this mod for the first time, any recommended factions for a beginner?
Never played it to answer your question, but I wish there were more mods as well polished as that one for the whole European-Middle East map
Any Italian one or Austria.
As a beginner probably Venice or something easy like that.
Milan is fun and pretty straightforward
Italian city states aren't bad if you want an easier time + good late game
Play a better mod than slavic junk
Such as?
Milan looks solid, I think I'll go with that. Thanks.

Hate it. Main reason I'm not that fond of the Rome 1 and Medieval 2 map.
Is there any Medieval 2 mod that focus on Italian Peninsula?
The Italian Wars is the most direct
https://www.moddb.com/mods/the-italian-wars
While Tzardoms
also has a pretty detailed Italy
I heard italian wars keeps crashing frequently. any1 played the mod recently?
God, I love general speeches in Med2
>racist accent and racist remarks based on socio-economic differences
That's literally fascism. I'm glad based devs stopped doing it.
Is there a page that lists all the traits for the expansions?
How do I play Late Era campaign in SSHIP?
You don't. Also enjoy your buildings that take 50+ turns to construct.
Basic or 1448?
Depends on the type of game you want. 1448 throws you later game stuff fast and has a good deal of activity with the Ottomans being the primary antagonistic force. But some factions feel neglected or unfinished as well as a number of other issues that probably apply to base Tsardoms as well. Choose based on the time period and type of campaign you'd like more
I hate the HRE so much
Death to the Kaiser and all who follows in his cursed footsteps
i believe you mean imperator of the roman empire sir. the pope had the documents to prove he could give the roman empire to anyone. also a vegana was ruling the greek empire so its justified really.

I got Last Kingdom last night. What would be a good starting faction? I just want a Viking Invasion 2.0.
shit mod, pick the one that sounds latin. insularis draco

>Also what's up with the arrow key controls, I'm pretty sure M2 modders dropped this shit a decade ago.
I think this was the default back then, but if you go into options you can easily swap it to WASD.
How does autoresolve really works?
I tried a Tsardoms install on my laptop, but the window remains stuck when I try to start a campaign
It's fine loading battles, but it visually stays at the loading screen while making the sounds and hud elements of the campaign when I move my house around. I can press the hotkeys to open up items, but they're all hidden by the loading screen
What is the difference between stainless steel and SSHIP?
SSHIP is prettier and has more scripts and some different factions.

We need a M2TW remaster to fix those mods. Modders usually cramp the old ass engine with lots of scripts that usually fail to work properly.
