Yeah he sounds like a Norfolk farmer in MediEvil 2. I grew up there so I'd know, and it's also only about 45 minutes from where MediEvil 1 and 2 were developed so that makes sense.
I mean, there were at least two ideas for third game and they were so-so >first pitch was turning Dan's waifu into a villain and making the entire plot going around Egyptian stuff (eventually this pitch was used for PSP remake of MediEvil 1 by adding Egyptian stuff) >second pitch was Dan vs Jack Frost in snow Gallowmere (I think it was supposed to take place between 1 and 2)
Now this anon speaks the truth >make life fountains finite, so eventually you can't even replay the levels because the only way to replenish health is to find health vials >way too many gimmick / puzzle levels that have nothing to do with MediEvil's combat >way too many levels are being reused (you visit Museum THREE times) >annoying ghost sidekick that can't shut up >a bunch of levels have no chalice so you might as well just rush through them asap while ignoring enemies >weapons powercreep each other way too fast and become obsolete in just 1-2 levels after getting them
Honestly, MediEvil 2 remake should've changed a lot of stuff to end up being good because the original version wasn't that great in the first place.
Fight masses of French Peasants controlled by Robespierre.
Game ends with a boss fight where you have to activate a series of switches to trigger a guillotine to take his head off.
Pumpkin Jack (pretty good for a game made by a few people, but the gameplay feels very rough compared to MediEvil, and the time gap between those two games is 20+ years)
Maximo series (a decent alternative to MediEvil)
I kinda want to mention Legacy of Kain and Darksiders series, but those two are not really cartoon-ish like MediEvil and Pumpkin Jack / Maximo
Takes place in modern England
Zarok's spellbook is unearthed by some kid who doesn't know what he's doing (kinda like Jumanji) and accidentally casts the undead spell, sending England into chaos. It also raises a new antagonist from the dead who steals the spellbook so the spell can't be undone because they want to live.
Dan is woken up as usual and must get the spellbook back, with the help of the kid. Dan has to go through modern England to get the spellbook back. Levels could consist of a modern rural english town/graveyard, maybe a renaissance fair level for the jokez, maybe a big shopping mall level etc, all taken over by the undead.
Maybe have Zarok come back but only as a head stuck on-top of one of those little hands that run around as a comedy relief character.
I dunno, just keep things basic, no need to go crazy with the lore and shit, or overexplain modern guns and shit or whatever. Just have fun with it.
Don't have an idea for a plot I just want to see it set in the Americas during the witch trials time period. Dan exploring that setting and seeing the lore of that time in Medievil dark comedic setting would be great especially since that is also a not often seen era of history. Have him explore around early Canada and America and meet thing like bigfoot, french fur trappers, puritans, etc.
Played 1 as a kid and I wasn't able to finish it, thought the game was enormous back then.
Replayed it this summer and it wasn't that big, it's funny how my perspective has changed. Really fun game.
while the control tweaks and other qol things are nice, the graphics look like "hire this man" unreal engine slop and that just kills it
the cinematics are even worse
>MediEvil 1
A great game. Amazing Tim Burton-esque style, charming music, wonky but still enjoyable combat and platforming, 11/10 voice acting, a striking protagonist. One of the very best European PS1 games and I still find myself playing it every few years. >MediEvil II
Shit >MediEvil Resurrection
Shit >MediEvil remake
Great new orchestral soundtrack, a couple of visually pleasing spots. But the graphics and pre-rendered cutscenes have overwhelmingly been sucked dry of life and style, contrast is so dull and grey that its often used in the "anti soul gas" memes and the gameplay is fricked because Dan no longer hitstuns enemies and they just charge through your weapons. A classic case where the remake actually is harder than the original but only for purely bullshit reasons.
MediEvil 1 was lightning in a bottle. Just let Dan rest, he earned it.
What made Medievil one good was literally just the runes. It let large levels have small locked sections that felt like it was a larger level than you expected
One thing that annoyed me about 2 was that it felt like 99% of shit ould just be walked around/jump over a small area to bypass but it was like 'nope gotta figure out the puzzle' 1 got away with it due to the runes unlocking literal gates that Zarok made to keep people from catching up to him
It also didn't help a lot of the bosses in 2 were either 'puzzles' like the count or else just repated dumb shit like Dogman and Mander
O just started playing the second game
Wtf did they do to Dan's voice?
Yeah he sounds like a Norfolk farmer in MediEvil 2. I grew up there so I'd know, and it's also only about 45 minutes from where MediEvil 1 and 2 were developed so that makes sense.
I actually really enjoyed M1 remake
Me too, it was fun. I got the platinum trophy too. Shame MediEvil 2 probably won't get the same treatment...
Ape Escape 4 starring Cai never
>makes an ape escape post in a medievil thread
Medievil 2 was already a downgrade

The fundemental flaw was Medievil 2 tried to focus purely on replacing the rune mechanic from Medievil 1
So it seems just more of a slog.
Even with the limited health, the repeated levels, etc, none of it compares to that most of it is just one giant fetch quest.
What could you realistically do in a medievil 3?
2 was already a downgrade setting wise.
Fighting off the French.
>french revolution
>dan has to fight aristocrats that are actually monsters
>boss fight against the scarlet pimpernel
Fight masses of French Peasants controlled by Robespierre.
Game ends with a boss fight where you have to activate a series of switches to trigger a guillotine to take his head off.
Wish they made Gex 4..

>Remake Medievil 1 AGAIN for PS4
>Re-release the PSP remake on PS4/ps5
Meanwhile 2 is still stuck on PS1 discs.
works on duckstation
it is weird how they just keep ignoring 2
What a badass setting and premise for a game. Damn shame,
Anyone have any other rec's for spooky/gothic style games like MediEvil?
Castlevania scratches that exact itch.
Pumpkin Jack (pretty good for a game made by a few people, but the gameplay feels very rough compared to MediEvil, and the time gap between those two games is 20+ years)
Maximo series (a decent alternative to MediEvil)

Make up a plot for a new Medievil.

Wonder how he'll react to all the Pakis

Use to think the same about so many games. Growing up and realizing that games have their limits sucks
Okay but what about a spooky/Halloweeny adventure/platformer game in general? It's a niche that needs filling
I should buy MediEvil some day now
It's pretty cheap, and a good time even for its age.
For me, it's Dan's brown Egyptian waifu
she's blue though
Good. Medievil happened, then there was a sequel that had an ending, and that's it. That's quite alright with me.
I did not care for Medievil 2.
Good
Medievil PSP edition, Medievil 2 and Medievil 'le cartoon' remake on the fricking PS4 was completely shit
The remake was good though.
It was utter shit
It was a fine 'for zoom-zoom' like most of the remakes are done now but it it's shitting all over the fun that made Medievil 1 good
The remake was perfect, what are you talking about?
while the control tweaks and other qol things are nice, the graphics look like "hire this man" unreal engine slop and that just kills it
the cinematics are even worse
Please understand. David Cage needs money
