What does /vr/ think?
> no snatcher. again
but some decent stuff, but still wont get until snatcher + light gun support
Mega CD Snatcher was never released in Japan, I'm starting to think it's not going to be in the MD Mini 2, even though the japanese script already exists because of the other versions. It's easier to patch it than to finish those incomplete old ports like Fantasy Zone and Starmobile, but who knows? Sega isn't known for smart decisions.
It's on PC Engine mini already anyway (and even censored like the sega version)
>censored like the sega version
fricking CERO
I don't know why Konami even bothered getting a stand-alone, Amazon-exclusive device rated. It didn't need a CERO rating.
>even though the japanese script already exists because of the other versions
The Playstation 1 port is the closest version to the Sega CD Snatcher in terms of content.
This is for the Japanese release so I don't expect to see Snatcher announced. The western release of the first Genesis mini had a wildly different lineup, so Snatcher could show up on that one. There hasn't been a worldwide release of this system announced yet though
I remember reading that they wanted to focus on Japan because of chipset and pandemic but realize the international demand, so I really think they'll make one for worldwide release. Hopefully they do since I'd love to get one.
I hope so, especially since M2 is still on board. Its still fascinating though that they put this much effort into the Japanese market though, weren't they mostly indifferent to the Mega Drive at launch?
I'm not sure how it did there, but I do believe them when they say the pandemic and chipset make it hard for them to focus on anything else at the moment.
It's not going to have Snatcher. Snatcher is already in the PCE Mini.
Zuntata livestream tomorrow with Night Striker

Ninja Warriors' Zuntata OST is amazing.
Why can't we get the MEGA CD port of Shin Megami Tensei with an official translation
Not bad although I dont know why they went with Columns III for a slot
Columns III is great, sick soundtrack too.
I don't understand the point of including 3 puzzlers (Columns III, Megapanel, Ichidant-R) AND a port of another puzzler (Star Mobile) in a single stream.
Only thing appealing to me this time was Nadia
The fact they got an anime license makes me wonder if they were able to get the Urusei Yatsura game too. Would be nice timing since the new Urusei Yatsura anime starts the same month as the Mega Drive Mini 2 comes out.
Speaking of Nadia and timing, Grandis's voice actress died two weeks ago
>Bonanza Bros.
not bad, but meh
>Fantasy Zone [Port]
never played the original arcade, but super fantasy zone is decent
>Magical Taruruto-kun
okay-ish, Pulseman is the better Game Freak game
>Popful Mail [CD]
very good
>Shining Force CD [CD]
very good
>Shining and the Darkness
good, not my kind of game though
>Silpheed [CD]
good, but i'm terrible at it
>Sonic the Hedgehog CD [CD]
good
>Thunder Force IV
very good
>Virtua Racing
meh, technically impressive but that's it
>The Mansion of Hidden Souls [CD]
never really played it
>After Burner 2
meh, never liked this series
>Columns 3
>Megapanel
i don't care about puzzle games, but they can be fun if you're into that
>Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water
dunno, it's a text heavy japanese adventure
>Night Striker [CD]
mega cd port looks pixelated as frick, i have nothing else to say
>Ninja Warriors [CD]
decent port of a game that didn't age well, great arranged soundtrack tho
>Out Run
good, classic racing game
>Puzzle & Action Ichidant-R
never played it
>Splatterhouse 2
i don't care about it, but it's a solid choice
>Star Mobile [Port]
never even heard about it
>StarBlade [CD]
i don't remember playing it, but looks ok even with the visual downgrade compared to the arcade
where's Final Fight, Battle Mania 2, Lunar, Ex-Ranza, Snatcher, Mega Bomberman, Dark Wizard, RKA, etc?
but anon, we didn't get your hot take on Columns 3!
I completed night striker on the mega sd and some levels you notice the blockiness a lot more but I still liked it enough to run through it. I think it doubles up on the pixels so the resolution is like the atari 7800.
I just want the surprise announcement of the Chaotix of or belonging to Knuckles
Im getting solely because of Mansion of Hidden Souls.
That game fricked with me as a youth. It was pretty deep. Way better than Myst or D.
still no respect for Surging Aura
i'm surprised at the lack of jarpigs
>Phantasy Star I, II, III (IV was on the Mini 1)
>Surging Aura
>SMT
>Lunar I, II
Idk, I'm not too excited since we don't know if it'll get a us release and even if it does those damn scalpers will get it. Why won't companies change the scalpers only model?
Why won't they make a N64 Mini, or a Saturn Mini?
Hell, why isn't there a Jaguar Mini?
the hardware of Minis are too underpowered to fully emulate those systems
Seriously, even the Jaguar?
yes, it's not just a matter of sheer power, but the complexity of the architecture too
There's no lightweight, open source Jaguar emulator yet, and they're not going to put the time into doing it themselves.
These companies don't make their own emulators, they rely on stuff people have already made for free.
These boxes are just display cases for the emulators and roms you already have.
Is this releasing internationally?
>Sonic the Hedgehog CD [CD]
This better stay the JP version, or at least have a toggle.
Virtual Jaguar?
>Virtual Jaguar?
Hasn't been updated since 2017 and isn't nearly complete enough to justify selling.
The fact that nobody uses it when it's free should tell you everything.
>Is this releasing internationally?
That interview a few weeks back confirmed that it is, but it's an extremely limited run.
https://www.frontlinejp.net/2022/06/11/mega-drive-mini-2-producer-interview-why-not-saturn-or-dreamcast/
>Why won't they make a N64 Mini, or a Saturn Mini?
>Hell, why isn't there a Jaguar Mini?
because emulation of those consoles, even on the most powerful hardware, is nowhere near good enough.
And of course these greedy homosexuals don't make their own emulators, they use the hard work of incels who program it for free
Jaguar was garbage man why would you want that?
Reminder that OutRun will have the same trademark-related tailight/badge editing like in the M2/Arcade1up releases.
i hope we get a new sega cd game/port. i think the current 2 ports are megadrive
Ys IV would have been great
Starblade, Silpheed, Shining Force are based. Virtua Racing instead of Virtua Racing Deluxe (32X) is cringe
>Virtua Racing instead of Virtua Racing Deluxe (32X) is cringe
They are not doing 32x emulation for the Genesis Mini 2.
But y tho. There are plenty of Genesis emulators these days that do 32X
BUT LE ORIGINAL HARDWARE.
I can already download all of these.
How about Star Mobile MD, moron?
It'll be dumped day one. Maybe even sooner if someone gets a review unit.
Crusader of Centy / Ragnacenty
>it's just the same shit they put on genesis collections
>actually it's only a fraction
Why even bother
>Sonic the Hedgehog CD
This is the first time the original 1993 Mega-CD version is getting rereleased, isn't it?
Yes. The Gems Collection is based on the old PC version and the Taxman remaster is made from the ground up.
Any chance that if Sonic 3 somehow go on this, it would be the original Genesis version rather than the Origins version?
Considering these things are just emulator boxes, yeah it would be the Genesis version, but it's 100% not happening considering the shitty replacement music can't really be patched into the rom and they can't legally use the original music as far as I know
I remember reading in an Origins thread that if they ROM just dump Sonic 3 instead of what they did with Origins where you try to port and/or remake things, then the music can stay in. I don't know how believable that is though.
Theoretically, does that mean og music could've been saved if Sega commissioned and tweaked AIR?
>tweaked
Nope.
The point is they don't have to frick with anything as long as it's EXACTLY the same game. The second you change anything, the music has to go.
Would allowing the game to run via HDMI count as "tweaking"? Stupid question, but does that mean the game running in anything other than 240 resolution is prohibited?
The tricky thing is that, technically, it is. AIR is basically like an emulation layer for the original Sonic 3 & Knuckles ROM. By tweaking, I mean the AIR engine code so it's a custom build for Sega approval, not any tweaks to the core ROM itself. Legally (assuming it's true), could Sega have gotten away with that, or is does it apply to the presentation as well?
>replacement music can't be patched into the ROM
Anon, the music you know is already a replacement, the MJ tracks were not the first tracks composed for most of the levels they were used in.
Also, frick do you mean they couldn't really patch the ROM? It's their fricking rom, did they even lose the source code?
Depending on the terms of the agreement, the thought has some merit; one would assume that SEGA learned their lesson about obtaining music ownership rights for releases after Sonic 1's theme
>Anon, the music you know is already a replacement, the MJ tracks were not the first tracks composed for most of the levels they were used in.
Well aware of that fact
>Also, frick do you mean they couldn't really patch the ROM? It's their fricking rom, did they even lose the source code?
The Origins music isn't the prototype music, it's redone music based on the prototype music that I'm 90% sure wouldn't be compatible with a Genesis game
It's times like these were I wish I actually knew Japanese. I know that there's one event in July and two in August (just like anyone else can probably decipher) but that's about it.
They're subtitles from Yakuza/Ryu-ga-Gotoku games, but what they represent in the context of the Mini 2 is anybody's guess until the actual stream airs. Like this time's was "Fulfiller of Dreams" which was about that x68k Cyber Stick being re-made for USB.
Next time is "Song(s) of Life" which has people speculating Lunar games.
I won't be getting it because I already have a Mega Drive and a Mega Ever Drive Pro but I'm happy for anyone who gets to experience great games through this collection. Enjoy your cute emulator box, you deserve it.
I'm actually amazed they're putting Sonic CD on here after taking down all the previous ways to by the games included in Sonic Origins
this is the reason for choices like After Burner 2, Night Striker and Star Blade
Zuntata's MD2 Mini and Night Striker CD livestream
You can buy most of these games for less than the price of this cheap ass romset. Nothing on there is particularly rare or expensive. I just don't get who buys this stuff.
>I just don't get who buys this stuff.
Normalgays who do not know any better.
How many normalgays in Japan give a single shit about the Mega Drive? Even 30 years ago it was a niche console for hardcore gamers.
>What does /vr/ think?
I hope the controller is good and it comes with two of them so I can use it on other devices
say no more.
Sega mini is the best of the minis by far.
Why?
>readily available - not scalped
>most games
>looks cool
>good controllers work on pc
>great range of controllers available
good for now
what are the odds?
Decent chance in Japan but an English release is complicated.
Is it for JP or US relase?
JP release. I'm expecting some games like Nadia, ichidant-R and Magical Taruruto-kun will be changed for US release.
Also this second batch of games seems a little disappointing on the whole.
>second batch of games seems a little disappointing on the whole.
agree
can't wait to see Galaxy Force II getting included just because it should be compatible with the flight stick
I am still surprised they are doing this. I also like the look of the design better for the model 2 vs 1 although model 1 will always win out for having the better soundchip. Not that it matters for this mini but yeah. As for these games, at least Thunder Force IV is on there so all is good.
>Columns 3
the best columns. hope the guy is still on the cover in the us version.
I played through Shining Force CD recently. Gaiden 1 starts strong before falling off a cliff and never recovering. Gaiden 2 starts as a very slight remix of Gaiden 1, tries to be Fire Emblem Gaiden for 6 fights, then goes back to being a Gaiden 1 rehash with fewer unit options.
Book 3 is good but short, and Book 4 is cool in theory but annoying to actually play.
It's really disappointing.
>OMG MINI'S HECKING YEEEEAHHHHH
Kys
>le edgelord
Cringe.
>Popful Mail [CD]
Neat!
thankfully the idea of Sister Sonic got scrapped
frick off until they confirm lunar 2
Those 3 CD ports (Ninja Warriors, Soul Blade and Night Striker) are just historical curiosities, Night Striker is so pixelated you can barely tell what is going on.
Ninja Warriors is a good game.
Ninja Warriors Again is just a better game, and Ninja Warriors Once Again is fantastic.
>Ninja Warriors is a good game.
in the 80s
You can't really win, the japanese release is flooded with puzzle games and mediocre ports like After Burner and Night Striker because of the flight stick, and the hypothetical western realize will certainly include a couple of western FMV shit. Only a single FMV is needed: Road Avenger.
Road Blaster/Avenger could use a modern port using the original laserdisc assets.
>Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water
That this and Magical Tararuto were secured bodes well for other anime-based games, but the choice to go with Nadia in the first place is trash.
At the time Nadia had three games, and only the PC-98/FM-Towns version is decent (it's kino and could have been its own episode, and it's voice acted); as for the Megadrive and PC Engine versions (different stories for a total of 3 variants overall) they're radioactive waste.
Megadrive Nadia is basically Nadia and Jean going through Paris, an island, a treasure cave and the masked guy's underwater base, and whenever they go, every named character in the cast they meet dies horribly and the location they visit destroyed on their way out (even the island), until they're left alone with a world tree to chill under. It's one of the worst visual novels I have ever played.
